[Solved] Nexus 5 connectivity

Right, I'm trying to connect my Nexus 5 to my laptop for USB tethering and media transfer. Now the procedure is not hard, I used to connect my xperia x10 and and my s3 just fine. I have searched and found many threads on here, on Ubuntu's forum, and xda but my problem seems to be at a lower level. The suggestions is always to install a bunch of packages (which I've done).
Here is what I've installed :qtadb, libmtp, gmtp, android-sdk-platform-tools, android-udev. I'm running Arch 64 bit (KDE) and the problem is on both my T410 and PC.
What is really worrying me is that it seems the phone is not detected in any form or shape. It just draws power from USB. Here is lsusb with the phone connected. (lsusb with the phone not connected is the same)

Nexus is running 4.4.2 stock firmware. The USB computer connection setting has been tried with PTP and MTP. I'm going nuts here and starting to think it is from my phone somehow (it connects just fine on Windows though). Different usb cables and ports have been tried. Help

Well, that output has nothing to do with connecting the phone. Each time you connect, I would expect to see data such as this output caused when I connect my HTC:

Yours does not even try to connect. There is no negotiation, no errors, nothing.
Either you have a bad cable, or the phone is not in a mode where it behaves like a USB client. Does that phone work with other computers?

[SOLVED] Wireless internet connection problem during installation

Hi to everyone!
I ask you a help in activating my wireless connection.
I tried to install from the recent ISO (201208 - via CD)
but I found some problems in activating a wireless connection in the first steps
of the installation guide.
My laptop is a Hp pavilion dv5 1020-el, with an Intel wireless 5100AGN internal interface.
So I did:
1) iwconfig to see my devices and the system detects my wlan0.
2) followed the Wireless_Setup page from wiki to set it
3) used wpa_supplicant and passphrase to set my ESSID name and wpa key.
4) iwconfig then showed wlan0 associated with my ESSID, with Power ON and Encryption OFF.
I could not try a connection via ping command.
Even wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf did not work.
Maybe the problem is with Encryption OFF.

EDIT:
I solved this way,connecting to an open wireless open network:
1.(from boot) I created a profile in /etc/network.d/ from /etc/network.d/examples
2. started a # netcfg 'my_ESSID'
3. # ping -c 3 www.google.com
All is ok! I can install Arch Linux from my smartphone as a router.
But I couldn't connect to a WPA protected wireless network yet.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. The company who provides the wireless internet service to my apartment complex moved the antenna next to my unit and claims he boosted the power. As the saying goes, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease". I complained almost daily to the apartment manager and she, in turn, griped to the provider which eventually led to the "solution" above. Using Skype is still shaky as the person I'm calling isn't always able to make out what I am saying. So, I use Skype only when I REALLY need to make a phone call. Even though none of your suggestions solved my problem, I am still very, very grateful to all of you who tried. Thank you very, very much! -- Matt

[SOLVED] Remmina not connecting

Hello all,
I installed Remmina and freerdp following the wiki, and I have two Windows Server 2008 R2 installs with the remote desktop option "Only allow with Network Authentication" selected in Windows. When connecting the first time I could connect to both servers, but that only lasted one time. Now I can only connect to one of the servers, and the only thing that changed was I went home for the night, and came in the next morning.
When trying to connect to the one of the servers I get an error message "Unable to connect to RDP server <server name>".
I verified all the settings with the server that worked, and they are configured the same way. I also verified the settings on the server, no go.
I'm not sure what to look at to see what could be wrong.
any ideas?

Thank you alot I must have read the wiki wrong or somthing cause I thought I need to but those ! in from of all network operations. Well I removed them and places wicd in the deamon and reboot and everything is up and running....:D

Did 7.4.2 solve windows losing connection to TC share

I was hoping this new firmware would solve the my issue but at least for me it still persists.
After restarting my TC I can connect my XP box to my TC share.
Though after a few minutes - approx 10 or so - I receive a message that the drive is no longer available, and I can no longer connect unless I restart the TC. My Mac work fine.
This a the newer dual band TC from early 2009 so I can't roll back to anything before 7.4.1.

this is the file from the network diagnostic I did while still running 7.4.2.4 - I also sent it with an email to the tech support for itunes store; so far all I've heard back is that they are working on it and will send me an email when it's fixed. (by the way, I deleted the ip addresses etc. but everything else is the same as it was then.)
Running itunes 7.3.2.6 is working fine, by the way, I was immediately able to connect to the store and download. If anyone else is thinking about downgrading, try saving your playlists first (search for 'saving playlists' in itunes help) because you won't be able to use your old itunes library file. I don't know if saving the playlists separately will help, since I didn't know that would happen when I started. meeshala

There may be a way to start in single-user mode, enter the correct command
and then restart from there into the normal GUI. However the info in your post
suggests two different products, as PowerBookG4 cannot run Mt Lion 10.8.5...
If your computer is a MacBook, running a more recent OS X than a PPC G4
can, then your topic could be moved by a Host into the correct ASC area.

[Solved] bitlbee/skype connection trouble

Hi all, been trying to solve this problem for a while now but to no avail, there doesn't appear to be much out there that offers any hints for where to look. I'm trying to get bitlbee, irssi and Skype working together, but every time I try to connect my Skype account, I just get connection time-outs or messages telling me it's unable to connect:

Now, I have skyped set up and running on the machine, skype4py is authorised in the Public API tab of Skype, using the default port etc. but whether I connect from a remote machine or the same one, it just times out. Strangely, when I try to run skyped -l for logging, it just shows me the help message. As far as I can tell, it has executed just fine as it gives no errors. The username is correct, as is the password I'm using. I've generated the necessary certificates, as per this guide.

skyped is started on port 2727, pid: 635
I can't find any log files to check for this so I'm a little bit lost as to what to do next. I can use bitlbee to connect to MSN no problem, so I don't think that's the issue. I imagine it's to do with skyped, but I don't really know how to check, so if anyone could provide any advice on the matter I would appreciate it. Even just a pointer in the right direction would help immensely. Hopefully one of my fellow Archers has this working.

Hi pshevtsov, thank you for the reply. I checked and although skyped was starting Skype, it was not continuing to run so I tried it with --nofork as you said and I got this error message (this also appears to be the error shown in the latest comment on the AUR page for skype4py).

Galaxy Nexus Not connecting to network

Good Evening,
I just received a replacement phone for Galaxy Nexus. The phone is not connecting to network. I am able to connect to wifi but unable to make calls or send texts since having the phone activated last night. When I was in the store last night I was able to receive and send a few text messages but since then haven't been able to communicate using my phone. I don't know if this an issue with the service in the area North Attleboro, MA or with my phone. Been on hold for 20 minutes with customer service.

No issues noted for North Attleboro. Please reprogram and test. To reprogram please pull the SIM card for one minute, then reinsert and power off/on. I see that you are using the same SIM from previous phone and this should not be a problem; however, if you accidentally touched the golden portion of the SIM card that could cause some issues. Nexus 5596T connecting to 3comm 5500

Good Day all,
I have a query. Our customer will be changing out their 3comm core switch and placing in a nexus 5596 switch instead. There access switches will now be connecting to the 2 5596T switches that will be clustered.
Can a single 3comm switch be configured to connect two ports, one to each 5k? And will aggregating the two ports on the 3comm end allow an active, active link to both 5ks?
Virtual port channels are supported on nexus 2ks and this can be used to connect to both nexus 5ks however will a 3comm allow this? I think it should be therethorically the 2 5ks are clustered and will be seen as one towards the 3comm.
What are your thoughts?

the port channel is not coming up on the nexus and on the 3com side when a "display stp brief" is done i am seeing one of the links as blocking and one as forwarding. this configuration didnt include port channeling on the 3com.
Depends upon how the port-channel on the Nexus is configured, but I would say that's expected behaviour. If the 3COM isn't configured for link aggregation the Nexus port-channel is not receiving LACPDU so the ports would go into an Individual state. I expect if you ran the show port-channel summary command on the Nexus you would have seen the Individual (I) flag set for the two interfaces.
When port channeling is performed on the 3com end one of the links goes down. The same steps were performed on a cisco 3560 and it worked perfectly so i am not certain whats different with the 3com.
So how is the port-channel on the Nexus configured? On the physical interfaces are you using the command channel-group 12 mode active(dynamic LAG with LACP) or simply channel-group 12 (static LAG)?
Can you paste the output of a show port-channel summary, show lacp counters and show lacp neighbor? Also any log messages that are displayed on the Nexus when the link goes down would be useful.

[SOLVED]Establishing internet connection (using Virtual Box)

Hi there,
Recently I tried to install Arch, but I got a problem with the internet connection. During the installing process there were no problems - I had internet right away without any configuration (so I skipped that part in the "Establish internet connection"-part on the Beginners' Guide.)
After the first reboot however I had no internet connection and
ping -c 1 google.com
gave me
ping: unknown host google.com
, so I went back to the Beginners' Guide and then tried out
ip link
which gave me two entrys, the second beeing:
2: eth0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000

Because this connection was down I tried
ip link set eth0 up
, but it didn't change anything at the output of

(still DOWN).
Can someone see from this information where the problem is?

Yup, that's the command I was looking for
If that didn't do it, then it is definitely something that you can/should seek help for here on the forum. If you simply don't have the time/energy right now to learn a bit more, then you can certainly come back to arch another time. But if you have just a little bit of time and a little bit of energy, this seems like a *great* learning opportunity.
The forums are here to help - don't take the abrupt points to the wiki as a sign we wouldn't help, we just want to make sure you read up on the basics first, then if that fails (which it now has with the dhcpcd command) then we can dig deeper. But in the end it's up to you if you want to push forward now or not. I'm confident we could solve this issue relatively quickly, as long as your on board with pushing forward.

How to solve unable to connect ipad issue

Has anyone been able to solve the unable to connect to network issue?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

**Solved** "Can't connect to server" problem

If you connect to your wireless network and cannot use safari or youtube, i know how to solve your problem.
-Open settings, select "wi-fi"
- Select "DNS", then scroll over all the way to the left and delete the first set of numbers
- Try safari again, and see if it works
- If not, delete the next set of "dns" numbers
- Continue until it works, (it did for me!)

Hi eveyone again.
Iv'e hopefully found all the data I need for someone to help me. When I go to the Wi-Fi settings on the touch only IP and Subnet Mask details come up (which come up as 169.254.211.37 and 255.255.0.0 respectfully. All the rest are blank.
After looking on my computer through the ipconfig/all data on my computer I got the following:

I have a Siemens SpeedStream 6520 Wireless ADSL Gateway Router and have found the Wi-Fi WEP key Code, Wi-Fi SID (which is SpeedStream8993 although this comes up on the ipod as well as the internet sign on the ipod), Wi-Fi pin and our usename and password which I presume is for the internet (even though we never use it. i think its more our email internet account for bigpond - our server)
I hope this is all the information needed in order for someone to help. As you can tell I'm not very tech savy. Also if smeone is kind enough to reply and help could you tell me whether to have the settings on DHCP (which I've been doing), BootP or Static as well as whether the HTTP Proxy needs to be on 'Off', "Manual' or 'Auto' (all of which I have tried, entering the required data).

Nexus 5596 connection to Brocade 5100

Hi All
I would like to connect the Nexus 5500 to a Brocade 5100 FC switch. I was hoping is somebody has done this before and can provide sample configuration. The Brocade connects to the SAN. The Nexus 5500 will connect to a server with a CNA.
Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

[SOLVED] Finding out connected users in shell

Hi there!
This may be a simple question at first glance: who is connected and how many sessions per user are opened? I thought a 'who' or 'w' would do it.
Sadly, it will only work with TTY sessions. Any session started from a login manager for X will not be taken into account by any of the aforementioned commands.
'loginctl list-... ' does the trick for systemd-based systems. But I'm looking for a more portable solution (BSD, other GNU, etc.).
Any thoughts?

I've been playing with 'ps' a little to see what I could get. First I think the following command is equivalent and more portable:
$ ps -ax -o user='' -o tty='' | sort -u
'-e' is GNU-specific, and --no-header can be avoided by setting all header entries to the null string.
This will display all 'users', even 'root', 'polkitd', 'dbus', etc. Every X terminal will add another superfluous entry, but we can get rid of it easily:
$ ps -ax -o user='' -o tty='' | grep -v ' pts/' | sort -u
To display a list of all users with the number of started sessions:
$ ps -ax -o user='' -o tty=''| sort -u | awk '$0 !~ / pts\// {x[$1]++} END{for(i in x) print i, x[i]}'
doe 2
polkitd 1
dbus 1
root 3
To display the number of started session for the specified user:
$ ps -o user='' -o tty='' -u $USER | sort -u | grep -cv ' pts/'
Do not use '-U $USER', since it will display one root entry per X session (X euid is $USER but X ruid is root).
I've not tested the above commands on BSD systems, but according to the 'ps' man page from FreeBSD, this should work well. But it may fail if the TTY are not reported the same way. It also relies on the pts names.
Don't know if anyone can come up with a better suggestion, but for now I'm quite satisfied with the result, so I'll mark it as a 'solved'. Thanks again!

Cisco Nexus 5548UP connect to dual NetApp controllers using FCOE

Here is my setup, I have two 5548UP's connected via VPC peer link. I am tring to use VPC to connect to a NetApp with dual 10gb ports using FCOE, with each 5548 getting one of the connections.
I then want to use VPC to connect to a dell server that has dual 10gb ports using FCOE as well with each 5548 getting a connection. I am new to FCOE, any help would be appreciated. I am getting confused in the configuration for both. Thanks

Head to the Nexus 5k section and check how FCoE is configured, how vPC is configured..
Once you tackle 5k, depending on your Environment (from Netapp perspective), check how to create Interface groups.
