[SOLVED] ownCloud on a Raspberry Pi with nginx & uWSGI - nowriteaccess

I have installed ownCloud via pacman and followed the instructions on the wiki. But when I try to access ownCloud, I get an error:
Can't write into config directory 'config'
This can usually be fixed by giving the webserver write access to the config directory.
ownCloud – web services under your control
Giving the webserver write access does not help: I have changed the owner both to the suggested http and to username and even changed the mode of the whole owncloud directory to 777 without any effect on the error.
I cannot find any logs to post under /var/log/
I am running the latest versions available in pacman: owncloud-5.0.13-1 | uwsgi-1.9.20-1 | PHP 5.5.6 | nginx/1.4.4
Any ideas what else I could try?

I assume you also changed the ownership / permissions of any subdirectories?

  • SSL Passphrases with Nginx and Systemd

I'm currently looking to migrate one of my systems to Arch Linux with Nginx powering my web stack. For my site I use a wildcard SSL certificate for communication, and of course my SSL key is passphrased.
While finishing up the last things on the system last night, I came around to actually putting the real cert on the system and starting Nginx. To my surprise Nginx failed. Using `journal -xn` I found that it was requesting the SSL key's passphrase via stdin which wasn't being sent to me, and thus would just fail.
How are people using SSL passphrases with systemd? I saw some work-around suggestions for Apache in relation to the PasswordAgent, are there any for Nginx? I'm starting to think that I'm just going to need to disable the systemd service for nginx and write my own init script.
I've taken a look at the systemd documentation, and there seemed to be plenty of theoretical / philosophical information about the PasswordAgent but nothing specific about how you add support to a service that needs it. It's possible I just missed the relevant article.
Any information will be greatly helpful.
    Cheers!
    -Tim

Thank you for the suggestion, I'm not sure how I missed this patch.
I'd like to avoid having to compile nginx from source. I suppose I should probably open a bug report on the project to allow this to be a core feature.
    Cheers!

  • MDM Server Enrollment Fails with Nginx Proxy

Hello everyone, I'm at my wits end trying to configure nginx as a transparent proxy to my OS X Server (in virtualbox) running our mdm service. Without nginx in the mix the mdm server works properly, and I can performce remote device enrollment and management, but I host multiple servers on the same network, and need to be able to proxy to multiple ips and ports using nginx.
    The setup without nginx:
I'm using external DNS for my fqdn, mdm.servername.com, which is correctly resolving to my public ip address. I have my firewall successfully forwarding ports 443, and 1640 to my mdm server at private ip, 10.0.1.60. I have the OS X server DNS disabled, and I'm also using mdm.servername.com as my OS Server's hostname. I set mdm.servername.com to resolve to 127.0.0.1 in /etc/hosts in order to build the open directory, and then I removed this entry from /etc/hosts. Don't know if this is one of the issues. I can access http://mdm.servername.com/mydevices from outside of the network, and enroll my ipad without problems. Everything is working properly until I introduce nginx.
    The setup with nginx:
Again using external DNS for my fqdn, mdm.servername.com. I have nginx running on private ip 10.0.1.50, and I'm forwarding ports 443 and 1640 to 10.0.1.50. I have the OS X mdm server running on ip 10.0.1.50. The mdm server has DNS disabled, and the mdm server is also using mdm.servername.com as the OS hostname. I can still access the website portion of mdm (https://mdm.servername.com/mydevices), I can install the Trust Profile without any issues, but when I try to enroll my iPad from outside the network, it successfully "enrolls the certificate", but when it's "Installing Profile" it evenutally times out. I see the progression of api calls in the nginx access logs:

The 504 error on the PUT happens about 30 seconds after the iPad already reports the profile installation failed.

    Additional info:
I have a wildcard ssl cert from go daddy that nginx is using for ssl, and I'm also using this for the websites server on OS X Server. I'm using the intermediate cert that Server generates for signing the configuration profile.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Thanks for the input Stephen! I am having trouble recieving application pushes on my guest network, I'm going to try and open the ports like you suggested.
Opening ports 443, and 1640 are definitely a must on the MDM server, or enrollment from the guest network will not succeed.
I noticed a lot of action in the /Library/Logs/ProfileManager/php.log on my MDM server, whenever I bypass nginx, and successfully enroll, so I'm guessing there needs to by some fastcgi proxying in the nginx config block:

    Hello, give this a try...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

    OK, solved.
    What I made wrong:
https://localhost leads to the apache page
https://localhost/owncloud leads to the owncloud page.
(Just as an information if there are other apache noobs like me...)

  • [Solved] Owncloud can't access remotely if not on root of server

I installed Owncloud on a new archlinux server I have. It will be used as a firewall and router (it has 2 nics)
The default owncloud package from AUR makes a config file for apache that creates a virtual host on port 80 of the server pointing to owncloud.
So when I browse the servers IP from the lan, I get owncloud's web interface.
But I want to access that interface from a /owncloud address so I can use the root of the web server to host a page with links to different services and some info that will be useful for the people on that lan. So I removed the virtual host from the conf file.
Now i can only access the web interface if i browse on the server it self. But when I try from a computer on the lan I get the "https" on the url bar and a "can't connect" error.
the modified owncloud.conf for the apache server is this: http://pastebin.com/nJrYWh3r
How can I "move" the owncloud to use 192.168.0.1/owncloud on the lan for the web interface?

    teekay wrote:
It should work already as the default config also sets an /owncloud alias. If it doesn't work, try
    ln -s /usr/share/webapps/owncloud /srv/http/owncloud
It worked before when I first tested owncloud (6 months ago)
the symlink works if I remove apaches owncloud conf file.
I'll mark this as solved, but it should work with the conf file in place, not the symlink on the filesystem.
Thanks, I don't know why i did not try that before

Also don't use the uwsgi from this distribution, get it from pip, the distros are broken.

  • Owncloud - "The connection was interrupted" with https

    Hello all,
I've been trying to set up owncloud over https for way over a day and a half. I kept changing configs (and changing them back again if there was no change) and still i can't manage to set it up. I had Fedora 21 on this pc and it worked but i wanted to change to arch because i know the overall system better and also, because after using Arch Fedora feels too bloated. And i can see that with the boot/poweroff time.
Anyway,  I very humbly ask the Arch community if someone can help me. I don't always have on site reach of this pc but I can always reach it over ssh.
Anyway, owncloud and the server itself seems to be working over http, as I can do what I would do normally, but as soon as I use https i get "The connection was interrupted". Apparently, what i found out online searching is that this message should appear when a firewall is online, but i have disabled ufw and flushed iptables rules and still i get this message.
What configs should i show for anyone to help me?
    Thanks you

    Hi, cris9288
First of all, thank you for taking time to answer me.
            Its apache,
You got me there, but I believe its VirtualHost because this is the owncloud.conf(please correct me if I'm wrong for I haven't really used Apache for real for some years now and i might have forgot some knowledge) :
    <IfModule mod_alias.c>
    Alias /owncloud /usr/share/webapps/owncloud/
    </IfModule>
    <Directory /usr/share/webapps/owncloud/>
    Options FollowSymlinks
    AllowOverride all
    #Require all granted
    php_admin_value open_basedir "/srv/http/:/home/:/tmp/:/usr/share/pear/:/usr/share/webapps/owncloud/:/etc/webapps/owncloud"
    </Directory>
    <VirtualHost /owncloud:443>
    ServerAdmin [email protected]
    DocumentRoot /usr/share/webapps/owncloud
    ServerName 192.168.1.27
    ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/owncloud.info-error_log
    CustomLog /var/log/httpd/owncloud.info-access_log common
    </VirtualHost>
Should I post access_log as well? I don't see anything strange there...
I deleter my http error log, so I would get clean results of the actual problem at hand and not of something else.
            So /var/log/httpd/error_log is this:
    [Tue Feb 17 20:59:26.212938 2015] [lbmethod_heartbeat:notice] [pid 3219] AH02282: No slotmem from mod_heartmonitor

The last 4 lines only appear after I try to access owncloud with http. So http works fine, but I would like to use it with https.
It is  only after I make sure owncloud works with http that I try to access it over https and I get those error messages on the log and the message "The connection was interrupted" on the browser.
            Should I post the actual /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf ?
         Again thank you.
P.S.: I have tried to write this post with my best English but it isn't my mother tongue so if there is any part unclear please tell me and i will correct it and learn as well
Hm, I'm trying to understand how everything is configured. Could you post the output of
    # apachectl -S
That will list out all of your hosts that apache is running. Also it looks like the https host has an error/access log, I would take a look at that to see if it says anything useful.
    Hello again,
Thank you for helping me. If i run #apachectl -S I get:
    VirtualHost configuration:
    *:443 192.168.1.27 (/etc/httpd/conf/extra/owncloud.conf:12)
    ServerRoot: "/etc/httpd"
    Main DocumentRoot: "/srv/http"
    Main ErrorLog: "/var/log/httpd/error_log"
    Mutex proxy-balancer-shm: using_defaults
    Mutex proxy: using_defaults
    Mutex default: dir="/run/httpd/" mechanism=default
    Mutex mpm-accept: using_defaults
    PidFile: "/run/httpd/httpd.pid"
    Define: DUMP_VHOSTS
    Define: DUMP_RUN_CFG
    User: name="http" id=33
    Group: name="http" id=33
By "the https host has an error/access log", do you mean the actual folder? Because on the acces logs it just says it got asked for some GET and POST actions but doesn't show me any errors.
    What should I do more?

  • [SOLVED]Mounting usb drives "not authorized" with thunar-volman (XFCE)

    Hi,
I'm new to Arch (even though I must be approximately at my 15th try at installing it properly) and I have a problem with thunar-volman.
Whenever I log in as user, and try to mount a usb drive with thunar, let's say I want to plug a drive labeled Ext3_8Go, I get the same message in a pop-up window : "Failed to mount Ext3_8Go (or anything close, not in English in the text), not authorized (that part is in English)"
    My install is :
    - net install
    - partitions : 9Go for /, no swap, no separate /home
    - packages : base and base-devel. The only modifications in the package list is that I remove ppp, pcmciautils, and xfsprogs.
    - config : at the install stage I only modify rc.conf to change LOCALE and HOSTNAME, and pacman's mirrorlist to allow all French mirrors in addition to the one at the top.
When the usb installation is over, I run this script :
"installation_xfce.sh"  (there may be some errors left, I modify this script as I learn) :
    #!/bin/bash
    # expected environment : freshly installed archlinux, login : root.
echo "Are you connected to internet ? If not, please Ctrl+C and reload this script when connected"
echo "Otherwise, press ENTER to continue installation"

    Thanks a lot !

The first code block contains my Xorg.0.log however I just tryed modprove nvidia and recieved FATAL: Module nvidia not found. which I discovered was solved by someone here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=961852 however when I tryed to do a pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils I get a unresolved confilict with nvidia-304xx-utils which after trying to remove with pacman -Rs shows dependencies with cario, Im not sure how far back I should start removing things to solve this conflict or how to go abouts solving it

I did some more looking and found I could force the uninstall of nvidia-304xx-lts with pacman -Rdds nvidia-304xx-lts and after revisiting the Nvidia page on the wiki for the dozenth time I started thinking maybe I needed nvidia-304xx oposed to the lts release as google as kindly pointed out lts is long term support and maybe my kernel was not lts and thus conflicting.  This turned out to be the case, after removing the ofending lts version of the driver, replacing with the correct nvidia-304xx , another nvidia-xconfig and reboot followed by modprobe nvida and startxfce4 my wounderfull xfce is now running as I type this messsage in firefox.  Thank you for you help, as you asking about the modprobe output caused the chain of events leading to the success.

  • [SOLVED] Xmonad: trasparency doesn't work with compton intel

    Dear All,
I am having a strange issue with Xmonad and I am not sure whether it is a problem of my Arch or Xmonad configuration. I decided to ask on Arch forum first, as my other computer running Arch has exactly the same Xmonad setup and it works fine. I would appreciate assistance from some Xmonad or Arch proficient users on this.
Basically, I have this piece of code in my xmonad.hs:
    myLogHook :: Handle -> X ()
    , logHook = myLogHook dzenLeftBar >> fadeInactiveLogHook 0.8
On the other computer this makes all the unfocused windowses slightly transparent. I find this feature very useful as it helps me focus on the window I am working with.
For some reason this doesn't work on my laptop. My laptop is using xf86-video-intel since the lspci gave me
    %lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 03)
Also I am invoking compton-git from AUR but I have also tried with xcompmgr in my xinitrc and it gave exactly the same result - no transparency whatsoever.
I looked through my log file, but couldn't find anything relevant (please let me know if you can think of anything). How do I proceed with this issue? Do I try different composite managers? Do I try different drivers? Is there anyhting in X setup that I should include? Please let me know if you have any ideas.

I am very sorry. I've just discovered that neither compton nor xcompmgr were installed. It's not only solved, it should be marked as [NOT RAISED]. I was migrating my configuration and overlooked some erm... details.

  • [SOLVED] Google Earth doesn't work with xf86-video-ati

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with the open-source ATI drivers.  I haven't had much luck finding out anything from anywhere else, so I'm hoping someone here can help.
Whenever I start Google Earth, the graphics run EXTREMELY slowly, almost as if it's running on a system with low memory.  I'm running an Acer Extensa 4420 with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 64-bit processor with 2GB of RAM.  As mentioned before, I'm running on the open-source xf86-video-ati drivers, but this is the only app that gives me problems.  GL screensavers run fine, and glxgears runs without any significant input.  Running Google Earth in terminal also gives no output.
And I'm not sure if this is related, but closing Google Earth also crashes X.
    Here's xorg.conf:

I had the same problem (slow googleearth) with ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility U1 (IGP 320m).
This .drirc solves it. I don't have an xorg.conf.

  • [SOLVED] DPMS screen off not working with xorg 1.16.0, gnome 3

After the update of xorg into 1.16.0-2, screen is not turned off by DPMS in GNOME.
I also tried an manual command:
    $ xset dpms force off
    but it's not working.
In other WM, this command is working.
With xorg 1.15.2 and gnome 3, there is not this problem.
When I entered the command, the screen turned off for a couple of seconds and turned back on.

  • [SOLVED] Lid doesn't suspend anymore with xfce power manager

The options "When laptop lid is closed" are set to suspend (and used to work), but still, when I close my lid, nothing happens. Using the logout dialog or the suspend button my keyboard works. Is it a problem with xfce-power-manager, or ACPI not registering the lid event anymore? Any idea how to fix that?
    [edit]
I solved that problem by removing ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml, killing the power manager and reloging in my session to flush the settings. Then I reconfigured the lid closed action to suspend (and everything else to my liking).

Sorry to bother you again, but for some reason it doesn't work anymore...
Somehow it can't lock the GNOME session, because when I enter the above line from /etc/acpi/handler.sh manually as root in TTY1, I get this error:
** Message: Failed to get session bus: Befehlszeile »dbus-launch --autolaunch=c9375f4ea0008d92177b28db000009ae --binary-syntax --close-stderr« brach mit von Null verschiedenem Beenden-Status 1 ab: No protocol specified\nAutolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.\n
If I enter this command inside GNOME, everything works just fine, it locks the screen and suspends.
    EDIT:
Setting the XAUTHORITY environment variable properly did the trick. Therefore, I borrowed some lines from here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Su … losing_lid
    Thread marked as SOLVED again.
