[SOLVED] pacman: grep database for specific packages?

$ pacman -Ss zsh

grml's zsh setup

community/zshdb 0.08-2

$ pacman -Ss zsh | cut -s -d/ -f2 | grep '^zsh ' | cut -d' ' -f1
zsh
I'm trying to grep pacman output for a specific packages (not just zsh) and receive only the package name as it was passed to pacman as a output (if it exists in the repos that is, otherwise blank / exit 1). The above command works fine in the terminal but when I'm trying to use it from a bash script it only returns blanks. How come?
Simplified version of the script:
tank (zsh ksh)
for x in ${tank[*]}; do
echo $x
present=$(pacman -Qs ${x} | cut -s -d/ -f2 | grep '^${x} ' | cut -d' ' -f1)
echo $present
done
I expect it to return output of a pacman command in the second echo (or blank if there's no packgae like that).
edit: change of title.
2nd edit: added simplified script.

And consider using
$ pacman -Ssq '^zsh$'
instead of that pipeline.
Brilliant! Much leaner. However it still doesn't work from a script:
tank=(zsh)
for x in ${tank[*]}; do
echo $x
present=$(pacman -Ssq '^${x}$')
echo $present
done
Second echo returns blank... Am I quoting something wrong?

  • [SOLVED] Query dependencies on a specific package

    Hi,
    I want to query a list of things that (implicitly or explicitly) depend on a specific package. For example, I want a list of all other packages that require the libx11 package. How can I do this?

    Thanks! Perhaps if there was a query command to do the same thing it would be a little more intuitive After all, it *is* a query. I didn't actually want to remove it, so i never thought to look into -R.
    Sorry for the misinformation. You actually need to do "pacman -Rc libx11" to see all the parents.
    pacman -R libx11 just tells you the first-level parents (package which depend directly on libx11), but for seeing these packages you can just do pacman -Qi libx11 and look at "required by".

  • [SOLVED] Pacman: cant install, remove, update packages

    I'm new to Arch, and yes I've read the Wiki and the sticky post "pacman error: FILENAME exists in filesystem".
    I can't install or update packages. Just synced the local database. I want to install the package "mc", so I ran:
    pacman -S mc
    All required packages were downloaded but then I got lots of:
    [package-name]: /path/to/file exists in file system
    I tried to remove that package but it says:
    loading package data...
    error: '[package-name]': could not find or read package
    I'm totally confused!

  • [Solved] Installed as dependency for what package?

    I was wondering, how can I find out what package has required the installation of another package? For example:
    [~ ]$ pacman -Qi gegl
    Install Reason : Installed as a dependency for another package
    I couldn't find any option that would show me more info on this.

    [~ }$ pacman -Qi gegl
    Required By : gimp
    Do you have gimp installed?

  • Grep expression for specific search within Brackets

    Hello,
    I did a search and found many topics for searching within brackets, but wasn't able to find anything to search for specific characters/quotation within brackets.
    Note: The forum image uploader wasn't working for me so I embedded it to the topic. Hopefully it shows up for you. (http://cl.ly/1H42302P2x3c1Q3P2a42)
    For the Brackets and words within, i use:     (\[).+?(\])
    and have it them to a different font.
    For my project i need the quotations to be a different color and nothing else.
    These are the ones i'm trying to add to an expression:      '|"|;|,
    Any help is very much appreciated. I've been trying many arrangements with no luck. Thanks!

    It's not possible to search for your punctuation inside parentheses only. (FYI, that needs a positive lookbehind of variable length, and that's not possible.)
    But the hint to get it done is right there:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    For the Brackets and words within, i use:     (\[).+?(\])
    and have it them to a different font.
    Simply search for your set
    only in that particular font.

    I had an issue like this during an update several months ago.  Reflector was the problem package and the existing files were owned by reflector.  I think it's worth mentioning since reflector is also a python package.  Anyway, iirc I simply removed and reinstalled reflector.
    Unfortunately, it won't be so easy for you since pyastpi is part of a dep-chain leading to gnome-shell... looks like you're going to have to figure out how to do it the right way

    hi kamala
    I check cas.log and datatransferservices.log and execmgr.log........as the package is sucessfully downloaded to DPs, which i matched with source folder and DP smspkgZ$ package size is same but , i am having doubt that
    package is downloading in client which you can check in cas.log with package ID C000121C entry
    but when im checking execmgr.log it show it is waiting for this particular package content
    but i hecked the dataTransferservices.log it shows every folder of package is downloaded.
    now is it possible that client computer is not abale to download complete package from dp to client computer
    will program run from DP work in this scenario ,because in our environment we are only downloading from DP then running the program setting is used.
    thanks in advance.

  • Stack XML creation for specific package

    Hello
    I want to upgrade my ERP 6.0 EHP4 system's LSOFE 603 to 604 but I received I need a stack.xml for upgrade. Our Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 system is recognising ERP system's SP levels but it is not giving me an upgrade option for LSOFE. I only saw latest SP which was 7 and all other SP's latest levels but not upgrade packages.
    How can I create a stack.xml for LSOFE 604?

    hi,
    If you operate a Netweaver system that contains at least one ERP software component (ERECRUIT, SEM-BW, FINBASIS or LSOFE), you must not use a stack XML file created for an SAP ERP system. Instead, you have to use a stack XML file for SAP NetWeaver systems. The EHP4 packages for the ERP software components have to be added manually in phase IS_SELECT.
    Generating the Stack XML File
    First of all, create a stack XML file for NetWeaver systems. This can be done either via the SAP Service Marketplace or in the Maintenance Optimizer of your SAP Solution Manager.
    check and update.

  • I can insert data into an access database, but I need to querry the database for specific information. How do I do it?

    I can insert data into an access database, now I need to do some simple querries such as selecting all records that are greater than a certain value or = a certain value. How can I return only the selected records?

    If you don't want to spend any money, then instead of ActiveX, I would recomend LabSQL from Jeffrey Travis. I use it instead of the Connectivity toolkit and have had no problems. Besides being free, you have the advantage of being able to use it with any database. ActiveX ties you to Access and you upgrade your version of Access and find the properties and methods are different, you've got a lot of reprogramming to do.

  • [yaourt] Keep sources/build files only for specific AUR packages

    Hi,
    By default, packages are build in BUILDDIR=/tmp/makepkg, which itself usually is a virtual dir in RAM. I generally like this behaviour, so I don't wanna change the BUILDDIR variable to point to a dir on the harddisk, but for a few packages I'd welcome the sources/build dir to be kept, e.g. for *-git packages to reduce build time on consecutive updates. Is there a neat Arch-way to tell the makepkg system to use a different dir (i.e., one on the harddisk) for specific packages? It'd be even greater to be able to use wildcards as well, so I could just enable this option for all *-git packages.
    And as I said, I generally like the idea of building in RAM so the trick to just let BUILDDIR point to a dir on my hdd and put a command in some shutdown-script to delete all but the directories ending in -git wouldn't be perfect
    Cheers

    Oh you're right in that BUILDDIR isn't set by default. I use yaourt for building AUR packages, so this is a yaourt related question, oops. I'll ask in the appropriate forum...
    Some packages are only available as git packages, and that for a good reason. Some git repository maintainers follow the good working principle to always have their master branch stable and deployable and do development and testing in respective branches to keep master clean. E.g. I maintain 2 git packages on the AUR, and there are no other "stable" options, also as git makes sense for these packages.
    And sometimes you just need a more up2date version

  • Delete distribution point in specific package

    I need to delete already assign distribution points for specific package. Basically need to remove distribution point and add different distribution point to selected package . since sms_distributionPoint status property read only I cant change it to 3 (delete)
    . How can I do using C#.

    I already tried this. But it want allow me to delete. that explain under  (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc144580.aspx) "When your application deletes an instance of
    SMS_DistributionPoint, the instance is not totally deleted until its related components are deleted. Instead, Configuration Manager sets the
    Status property to 3 (delete) to inform the application that the distribution point is marked for deletion". I cant update it to status 3 since status property is read only.
    I tried to do this several ways but didn't get true it. If you have any experience with this please send me the sample code.

  • "pacman" check for new packages, but without updating database.(SOLVED

    Is there a way for pacman to tell you what packages could be updated but without changing your database? The reason I ask is that doing pacman -Sy is unsupported, as it could lead to old versions of a package being incompatible with news one of another. Basically, I am wondering if pacman has a way to tell you "what would happen" if I did pacman -Sy.

    I don't understand why do you want to keep your pacman database out of date. It's not possible to install outdated packages, they are dropped from the repository when an updated version is uploaded.

    Pacman tells me there are updates to do, but:

    Using the mirror "http://mirror.bytemark.co.uk/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch" I get a 403 error

    Hi flangemonkey,
    that mirror was not synced yet when you did the upgrade (the last sync ended today at 10:54 UTC, about 17 mitues after you posted on this borad). It should be ok now, just try to redo the update. Next time, you may want to check first the status of the mirrors https://www.archlinux.org/mirrors/status
