[SOLVED] Pacman issue after -Syu

Hello guys,
This morning I did a full update with "pacman -Syu", before that, I also did an installation for gnome and gnome-extra as well as openoffice. There were some connection loss during the update and perhaps some packages failed to be retrieved, however, I repeated "pacman -Syu" and install the packages again and again until it  showed that everything was installed.
But after that, every time I execute the pacman command, I always get the message "error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/community/chrootuid-1.3-3/desc: No such file or directory", it still shows that "local db is up to date" though, however, it seems like virtualbox isn't installable as "pacman -S virtualbox-ose" returns a "not found" error.
Please give me your solution about this
Thank you

Pacman -Syy did the trick, but I also need to change to another mirror as well, I suppose there was something wrong with the previous mirror.
Thank you all for your help

  • Does anyone solved wifi issue after ios 6 or 6.1.2 or 6.1.3?

My wifi works intermitently. sometimes it is grayed out, sometimes it is just searching network. I dont know how this issue has come? This all started after ios 6.1.2. and ios 6.1.3 didnt fix it for me. Have done all reset or restoration as a new device but with no success. I think apple is going to bite the dust very soon if this continues. Please note the router is woking fine coz i m running new ipad on ios 6.1.2 and there is no issue with wifi. Should i wait for ios next update or get the wifi module fix.? this is what i was told by one person who does all phone repair work.
Suggest something concrete. i am without wifi since last 1.5 months now. Apple is just ignoring the problem. does anybody solved this issue after multiple software updates ? The problem is my warranty is gone in January itself. and i have purchased this phone from USA and i live in india.

    See if this helps
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
if not, it is hardware failure. Apple provides warrantee support for iPhones only in the country of sale.

so I read in another post that all I hafta  do is manually install xz-utils...so I got to AUR and try to makepkg -s after i tar -zxvf the .tar.gz file they provide
I might be missing something or may have not downloaded some extra file I need....anyways it said there was no target specified and no make file found....I'm sure it's fairly obvious that I'm new to linux so any help would be appreciated
i put the .tar.gz into a folder I named xz-util then i cd there and i utarred it with tar -zxvf then i cd into the now utarred file and I type makepkg -s

Profjim gave you the link above.  It is a plain tarball that contains all the necessary files and symlinks.
dangsos wrote:after I updated it then it didn't work....not sure what the deal is, but it sounds the same as the other guys problem that you linked too
oskarn did -Syu (and most likely -Syud as Allan said), which is not -Sy.  Since you aren't familiar with the basics of arch/pacman, it's hard to guess what you really did exactly.  If you're able to get this all fixed, you'll need to read through some wiki articles to get a basic grasp of things.

  • [Solved] Pacman message after interrupted installation... persists

As you can see I'm still a bit of a newbie. Yesterday I was installing TeX live, but while installing someone unplugged a USB stick and all went stuck... it all just freeze the system, I guess it was a hardware problem. Anyway, I restarted and when I came back to resume the installation (downloading of packages was already finished), pacman sent me a lot of error messages, but apparently TeX live installed fine. Well, I checked my TeX system and works fine. The problem is every time I try to install something, I always get this error message:
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/local/texlive-bin-2010.1-4/depends: No such file or directory
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/local/texlive-bin-2010.1-4/depends: No such file or directory
How do I repair this? I didn't want to clean the cache, but... would this do fine? what else do I have to do?
    Thanx in advance.

    Well, solved by myself.
What I had to do after a lot of mess was
    1. uninstall everything that was causing errors
    sudo pacman -Rs texmaker texlive-most texlive-core texlive-bin
    2. and clear the cache of files not installed
    sudo pacman -Sc texmaker texlive-most texlive-core texlive-bin
This solved the entire problem. Dialectical theory still functioning in my brains

  • [solved] pacman -Syy and -Syu work, but packages won't install

Hello, everyone. I'm really new to Arch, but I did search all over Google and the forums and couldn't find an answer to this, so I thought I'd ask the forums.
I just installed Arch, and I'm trying to install sudo.
When I run pacman -S sudo, I get:
sudo package not found, searching for group...
error: 'sudo': not found in syncdb
However, when I run pacman -Syy, I get:
    ::Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.kernel.org: File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
...(other similar errors from other mirrors)
    core     4.1K     43.7K/s     00:00:00 [##########] 100%
    ...(same for extra and community)
(Sorry I didn't copy the entire output out, I'm not connected to the internet on the Arch computer, so I'm typing this by hand on another one. I tried a bunch of mirrors earlier, and only one mirror actually works: the Arch one, which as a download cap.)
So my package databases are getting updated, but somehow pacman isn't recognizing them or something.
I updated pacman to see if that would work.
    pacman -V
    Pacman v3.3.3 - libalpm v4.0.3
    It didn't.
    I'm running 2.6.33-ARCH according to lib/modules.
I haven't changed my etc/pacman.conf. [core] and its Include, [extra] and its Include, and [community] and its Include are all uncommented. No packages are ignored.
My etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist was updated from the Arch Mirror Generator. I uncommented everything in United States.
I have internet set up, and I've tried taking down wlan0 and putting it back up. iwconfig shows that wlan0 works and is connected, and I'm pinging google.com successfully, so I know internet works.
Thanks in advance for any help, and please let me know if I'm missing any information. I tried to be thorough.

  • [SOLVED] multiple issues after ram upgrade

    hi everyone!
2 new ram modules arrived this morning, which i hastily installed in my machine. this is where the fun starts...
    issue 1: no initramfs
so the boot process starts normally it seems. i get past grub and the initramfs starts to load. thats also where it stops dead.
a little google-fu reveals that i should try and chroot from a live iso and recreate mkinitcpio. seems easy enough... but:
issue 2: cannot boot live iso
multiple tries fail, when i finally stumble upon a post mentioning that the live iso cant handle large amounts of ram that well. adding
    ram=2048M
gets me one step further. but still no dice. this time she just reboots after systemd does its thing.
what seems like hours later, i manage to get to the root prompt by also adding
    nomodeset acpi=off
to the kernel line. so far so good. seems my nvidia gtx 970 and nouveau dont play nice, but that seemed to solve that.
next up: chrooting and rebuilding the initramfs. following the instructions in the beginners guide, i try and mount my root partition, which leads to...
issue 3: cannot mount btrfs root partition
mkdir works fine for the mount point. no problems there. the mount command itself seems to work somewhat too, telling me that sda1 is a btrfs filesystem on an ssd (which it is). then, however, a mysterious series of lines pop up telling me that it is "calling CRDA to update world regulatory domain"...
about a dozen lines of information appear and stop dead yet again.
utterly defeated, i decide its time to do some old fashioned hardware debugging. so i swap out the ram modules (2 sets of 2), popping them in multiple configs in the appropriate slots. memtest64 runs through fine in all configurations. nothing special to be found in the bios either. the 2 sets are from different manufacturers (a-data doesnt make the original set anymore - and havent produced a new set with the same specs), though i did pay attention to the timings, clockspeed and size (everything matches on paper). ending up at the last resort: putting everything back together again as it was originally, i reboot, praying for a familiar boot sequence and maybe even a gdm login prompt. but no such luck today. i am now stuck at
issue 4: putting humpty dumpty back together again
grub loads up normally. systemd fires up and im now faced with this:
INFO task mount:172 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
    Not tainted 3.19.2-1-ARCH #1
    "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.
INFO task btrfs-transacti:194 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
...repeats last INFO a few times...
so that brings us up to speed i guess. im out of ideas and the interwebs dont seem to have anything more to offer with my somewhat intricate set of problems. i know most of you are tinkerers like myself, and i hope theres someone out there that can help me out. to help you help me, here are a few specs and bits of info that might be of interest:
    mobo: gigabyte 990fxa-ud5
    cpu: amd fx 8350
    ram (old): 2x4GB a-data ddr3 2000Mhz C9
    ram (new): 2x4GB avexir ddr3 2000Mhz C9
bios settings: defaults all around, except iommu is activated (iommu=pt added to kernel line to let bios handle iommu)
    gpu: nvidia gtx 970
partitioning (from what i can remember - i can post exact info, if its needed):
    root: 60GB SSD (btrfs)
    home: 200GB SSD (btrfs)
var: 20 GB on 1TB HDD (btrfs)
storage: rest of the 1TB HDD (btrfs - i think. this may be an ext4 partition, im not 100% certain)
any help or hints are greatly appreciated!
    thanks a lot in advance!
    regards,
    m.

thanks ewaller, but i had tried that before...
turns out the arch iso was the culprit. i found an ubuntu-gnome live usb and popped it in. surprisingly, chrooting worked fine with that iso and i managed to boot successfully after running
    /usr/bin/mkinitcpio -p linux
a few minor fixes (network device names had changed) and im up and running again... with all the ram, no less!
    thanks a lot again!
    regards,
    m.

  • [solved] pacman broken after "pacman -Syyu" excluding pacman

    Hi forums,
I use arch x86_64, yaourt and the testing and multilib repositories.
A full system upgrade doing "yaourt -Syyu" didn't work, because pacman had an unfulfilled dependancy which I don't recall, but it was about a normal and a multilib version: I probably have the multilib version of a library installed, which has not been updated to the version required by pacman yet.
So I thought it would be perfectly fine to exclude pacman from this system upgrade by choosing "manually" from the options given by "yaourt -Syyu" and commented pacman.
The upgrade then went fine except for the two final lines:
package-query: error while loading shared libraries: libarchive.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
testdb: error while loading shared libraries: libarchive.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Now everytime I try to use pacman, I get this error:
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libarchive.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Do you know how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance

ngoonee wrote:Actually (even without cower), makepkg will tell you what dependencies are missing when you try and compile an AUR package. In fact, -s will install them for you (unless they're from the AUR, in which case you have to download/makepkg that package first).
Actually, I was more concerned about updates for packages from AUR. yaourt would handle AUR packages as if they were in a repository, and update them, solving dependency problems.
Now what I fear is, that if some regular library gets an update, it may not updated on my system in the first place, because pacman only sees that the older version is needed for the AUR software, but is not capable of updating the AUR package (which works with the new library version) automatically. So updates will break some software unless I remove it first and install the latest version manually.

  • [Solved] Pacman error after incomplete upgrade

    Hi
I was updating my archlinux when my X11 crashed (I was restarting it after tweaking my gnome 3) .
Trying to update after that indicated that my system was already uptodate. Installing anything indicated that pacman was running else to delete a file /var/lib/pacman/db.lck , which I did.
Now I can install but get these errors (for an example of re-installing pacman):
    pacman -S pacman

I ran pacman -Syy and pacman -Syu and it updated my one system to the Sept 9 kernel etc.
I ran the same on my other system, and it reports all is up to date (local database up to date) but it is stil on the Aug 17 kernel etc.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Willem

Thanks, that was it, used the mirrorlist from the other box.
Thanks again, didn't think the mirrors would be that unsynced.

  • [solved] Boot issues after update caused by LVM

    Hi,
I know that there are some threads regarding boot issues but I haven't been able to find a solution for my problem.
    I have the following partitions:
    $ lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
    sda 8:0 0 74.5G 0 disk
    ├─sda1 8:1 0 128M 0 part /boot
    ├─sda2 8:2 0 2G 0 part [SWAP]
    └─sda3 8:3 0 72.4G 0 part
    ├─vg_trinity-root (dm-0) 254:0 0 10G 0 lvm /
    └─vg_trinity-home (dm-1) 254:1 0 25G 0 lvm /home
    I have
    USELVM="yes"
in my rc.conf and the following im mkinitcpio.conf:
HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata lvm2 filesystems"
Still, when booting the volume group does not get activated. The following message appears:
    :: running hook [lvm2]
    Activating logical volumes...
    No volume groups found
    Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/mapper/vg_trinity-root ...
ERROR: Unable to find root device '/dev/mapper/vg_trinity-root'.
You are being dropped to a recovery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
    [rootfs /]#
At that point I just run
    lvm vgchange -ay
exit the shell and booting continues. So somehow activation of the volume group does not occur early enough. I reinstalled udev, mkinitcpio, linux and generated a new boot image as proposed in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1059124 but to no avail. Is there anything else that might be wrong with my configuration?
    Thanks for any help.

My apologies. Usually I'm quite good at searching but this one slipped right past me. Marking as solved (even though the root cause is still WIP).

As always, I tried to do -Sf eclipse jre jdk to see, if it's not just a corrupt package installation, but it didn't help. Package versions are eclipse 3.4.2-1, jre 6u13-1, jdk 6u13-1. Maybe someone encontered this problem too? Just to check meanwhile I google for the solution...

However when I do this as root I don't get the error, is this common, a google search didn't achieve anything that I could make sense of.
I had a go at reinstalling pacman but it's still there.
    Thanks,
    Ben.

  • How can I solve several issues after an automatic Windows update ?

    Hi,
Would be great if you could help.
I use Windows 7. Some major Windows update must have been applied that really messed up a few things, including my Firefox browser.
Issue 1: All my bookmarks are gone.
Issue 2: When I try to locate the Profile Folder (to try and get my old bookmarks, permitted sites etc.) I get an error message instead. It reads "[path] refers to a location that is unavailable."
Issue 3: When I set Firefox as my default browser, the next day I have to repeat this step, and both icons in the start menu and on the taskbar are not there anymore.
Is there any way of fixing these issues?

    Where was it stored?
If you've been using your phone as designed, you've been synching your contacts with a contact manager app on your phone or with a cloud service.
    Just synch your contacts back.
If you've not been using your phone as recommended then you've lost your data.
