[Solved] Pacman no longer works at all!!

Ok, did some searches and found a few hits, but not really sure how to fix this one. Here are 2 links I found.
links:
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … -libraries
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1232052
In my case, I dont think any pacman option/command works. Cant run 'pacman' with ANY options or with no options??
error:
$ pacman
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I guess I was updating something using curl libraries, but not sure whats the best way to fix this.
ldconfig -p | grep curl
Returns nothing.
Not sure if this was the right thing to do but I also tried this from the first link.
echo /usr/local/lib | sudo tee -a /etc/ld.so.conf.d/local.conf
Here is another one:
$ sudo ldd $(which pacman)
linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007fff4a3ff000)
libalpm.so.7 => /usr/lib/libalpm.so.7 (0x00007f16be091000)

libpthread.so.0 => /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007f16bbf5e000)
So looks like thats the issue .. libcurl.so.4 => not found ...
I dont have strace installed and not sure if I need it to continue....I did a quick search and dont see a libcurl installed, so either i need to install it or remove that reference too it? LOL
Any suggestions?

Never use testing repos.
I dont see anything for libcurl in that log, but I did see this recently for curl. Perhaps this is the culprit. Pacman -Sc ??

You could try Paragon HFS+ for Windows. That would allow you to read and write files from a Mac-formatted drive.

  • [SOLVED] Postgis no longer working after upgrade of postgresql

    Dear all,
after yesterdays upgrade of postgresql-server and libs to 9.0.1 the postgis package does no longer work. When trying to import postgis.sql (version 1.5) it always complains about wrong libraries version:
psql:/usr/share/postgresql/contrib/postgis-1.5/postgis.sql:59: FEHLER: inkompatible Bibliothek »/usr/lib/postgresql/postgis-1.5.so«: Version stimmt nicht überein
I have double checked on postgresql and postgis documents that the versions should be compatible:
    postgresql 9.0.1-2
    postgresql-libs 9.0.1-2
    postgis 1.5.1-1
For all databases dump and restore was fine, except for my gis databases. So upgrade from 8.4.4 to 9.0.1 worked in general.
    Any ideas?

"Unfortunately" I did not have enough time to give it a try and rebuild the package.
So today I found that there is already a new version of postgis available which works perfectly fine!

I've a HTC M8 and have been using Skype on it fine for months. Then my Windows laptop did an update from Skype. Since then my phone no longer works using Skype. It just crashes when a call connects. No one can hear me and no video is sent. Has someone messed up over at Skype??

    System Requirements
MobileMe has slightly different system requirements than .Mac. Please review the requirements below and upgrade as needed.
Compatible device: Mac, PC, iPhone, or iPod touch.
For Mac: Mac OS X v10.4.11 or latest version of Mac OS X Leopard; Firefox 2 or 3 or Safari 3.
For PC: Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (SP2) or later; Firefox 2 or 3, Safari 3, or Internet Explorer 7*; Microsoft Outlook 2003 or later recommended.
For iPhone and iPod touch: 2.0 software.
iPhone requires Wi-Fi or cellular network data connection for over the air updates; iPod touch requires Wi-Fi connection.
iTunes 7.7 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download).
Internet access with compatible ISP (broadband required for web applications); fees may apply.
Some features require Mac OS X v10.5 and iLife ’08.
    * Internet Explorer 7 is not fully supported. Internet Explorer 7 has known compatibility issues with modern web standards that affect Web 2.0 applications such as MobileMe. You can use Internet Explorer 7, but you will not have access to all MobileMe features and will experience slower performance.

System Preferences pane has several tabs where there there is a security option, i.e.: a padlock icon with 'click lock to prevent further changes".
the icon is not working on all the tabs - it works on some tabs, but on others it just flashes and stays unlocked.

Find my friends no longer works.

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
You can try if it works if you disable OOPP (Out-Of-Process-Plugins).
You can set the prefs dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.* to false on the about:config page to disable the plugin-container process.
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled (currently false by default)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll (Flash)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll (Silverlight)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll (QuickTime)
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • [SOLVED]EasyStroke no longer works after upgrading Xorg....

    Hi,
First i would just like to take the time to say, that ArchLinux kicks butt!  I just joined the forum, but have been using Arch for about a month. Thus far, i have had very few problems....until tonight
I keep my system really up-to-date (almost everyday i update).  Tonight, there was an update for Xorg (1.10? i think).
Anyway,  One of the applications that i use is Easystroke - which after the upgrade has stopped working, i even recompiled it (which went fine) but still it doesnt work.
    a more detailed explanation;
    1. the app starts up fine, and appears to be working.
    2.  i draw a gesture on the screen, and i can see easystroke drawing them.
    3. at this point the usually, i would stop drawing and easystroke would execute my gesture. but now instead, it doesn't properly release the gesture key (second button on my Wacom Bamboo stylus).
    4. Easystroke has a "history page" that allows you to see how accurate your gestures are, now it shows absolutely nothing.
I have searched around with google, and no luck.  I tried to get a more verbose output from easystroke, but it doesn't tell me anything.  So, now i am kind of stuck
After the upgrade (and a reboot), i tested the system to see if there were other problems.  So far, i have found zero.
I've tested my tablet, all of my main applications; Maya2011, Mypaint, gimp, Compiz++, Jackd, wine, etc.  Everything is fine. I have also went through the log viewer, and nothing caught my eye that would hint to what has gone wrong....
if anyone else is having the same problem, or has a possible solution, please let me know.
I can deal with not using it for now, but not having Easystroke running, seriously hinders my workflow and navigation
on my Arch Desktop.... and now i am wondering whether or not easystroke even runs with the latest X???

    Hello,
Welcome to the forums.  Your post is fine in every way.  Introduction, problem description, what you have done -- perfect.  The package you reference is from the AUR which, as you know, is not in the main stream Arch distribution.  These community contributions are essential Arch, but have their own area in the forum to differentiate them.
Moving this thread to AUR issues...
As it turns out. This isn't a bug in AUR/easystroke. It is a bug in the latest xserver 1.10.902 (found in the "extra" repo)  Many applications are affected. Opera, chrome (if you are using the mouse gestures features for navigation) and it turns out that while i thought Maya wasn't affected, in reality, it is totally affected. most applications that use a mouse with right-clicks, middle clicks do not work properly.
it's an upstream bug, that affects all distributions using the latest Xorg. I am not filing a bug report, because as i understand it, this bug has already been reported upstream by Ubuntu-devs (on launchpad).
that latest update for Xserver, should have been tested better, before being an update available through pacman.
On my system, i do not use any testing repos, only core, extra, and community. I do this to avoid situations, just like this. lol.
I have work i need to get done today, but unfortunately, the only way that could happen is if i downgrade xserver (which i don't think is a smart idea). So, i guess i must wait for the next xserver update for arch. hopefully this happens in the next 24hours.
I suppose i will have to use OSX for now, until this is properly addressed and fixed.
anyway, i just wanted to point out that this bug has nothing to do (specifically) with Easystroke or AUR, that is just how i first noticed the bug. ( i just wanted to point that out, as you are a moderator ). This bug is in the main repos for Arch, and anyone updating today (or yesterday) will be affected, if they use applications where it's noticable.

  • [Solved]Synaptics Touchpad not working at all on Fujitsu Siemens UH552

    Hi,
I have just installed Arch on my Fujitsu Siemens UH552 laptop. Everything works except for the touchpad which seems to get loaded by Xorg, but when in X it doesn't work. I have tried both using /dev/input/event* and /dev/input/mouse0 as device paths, neither works.
    xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-synaptics are installed.
I have tried running both with the default 10-evdev.conf, with 10-synaptics.conf, with both, and without both.
    TLDR SOLUTION: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1189603

    Driver "synaptics"

psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout
Last edited by flako (2012-11-08 09:44:59)

I have tried doing that with both linux mint, and now fedora live usb. Neither one loads the touchpad correctly.  So yeah, our problems weren't really related
Anyway, I tried looking into the
psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout
messages, and tried running psmouse proto (defined in /etc/modprobe.conf/psmouse.conf) as both raw and imps as per https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s … ion/206950 Unfortunately, that didn't solve anything. Using the raw setting meant that the touchpad wasn't loaded at all (as in not appearing in the Xorg.log at all).
The laptop is quite new, but at the same time what i figured from the touchpad vendor & product ID, the touchpad itself isn't. So it should technically work. Before installing arch i booted into windows to see if everything worked, and found no issues with the touchpad. So I have ruled out any hardware errors. Maybe its just the Fn-key that doesn't work yet in Linux? But that doesn't explain the "psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout" Any pointers to where I should look/ what commands I should run to delve deeper into this issue?

  • Many videos from iPhone that were in iPhoto no longer work and all have lost their thumbnails. It won't let me import videos at all now.

After installing Yosemite many of the videos I had in iPhoto won't play at all. All the videos (including missing ones) now have dashes around a thumbnail shape instead of the thumbnails that were there. When I click on the thumbnail shape of any of the ones it won't play it says "The operation couldn't be completed (OSStatus error -54.)"  These are videos that were there in Mavericks before I installed Yosemite and worked fine then.  Also now I am unable to import any videos from my iPhone or my desktop, even ones that it took before. It says the file is an unrecognized format.
What I want to know is - is this on purpose?  Did Apple suddenly withdraw all support for videos in iPhoto and in the process destroy the ones that were there or is something wrong with my system? Do other people see thumbnails and are able to play videos and import new ones in iPhoto in Yosemite? I wouldn't be surprised if something is wrong with my system since after upgrading to Yosemite ALL the thousands of carefully organized songs in my iTunes playlists were missing and I don't think that was on purpose but the fact that I can't import new videos makes me think this is on purpose.
If this is on purpose, if iPhoto on Yosemite is really no longer able to take videos what can I use instead?   In iPhoto my many videos were organized into folders and subfolders and sub-sub folders.  I can't do that in iTunes and also can't adjust thumbnail size in iTunes so videos take up way too much space there. Any suggestions on third party programs that will let me organize videos into folders and subfolders, etc and see thumbnails at small sizes?  I just need to be able to organize the videos and click them to play.

    THANK YOU!
I noticed this morning a lot of the thumbnails were back that weren't there last night.  It must have very slowly been bringing them back, but the videos that would not play at all were still not working and there were still quite a few without thumbnails.  I followed your suggestion and I'm amazed! That actually fixed everything!  Now all the thumbnails are back, the videos that wouldn't play at all now work fine, and iPhoto let me import the videos that it wouldn't last night .  I hope it stays like that but at least I know what to do if this happens again, if I dare to install any updates.
What does holding down the option key with launching the program do?  I might need to use this again or with other programs.
    Liz

  • My Adobe CC apps no longer work at all (Windows 8) - they just crash

I successfully used Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro on my laptop (which uses Windows 8) for a full year. Creative Cloud version. While it wasn't ideal, and some day I will switch to a Mac, I was able to get the job done. Two months ago, Premiere Pro stopped working. It crashed every time I opened it. I removed it from my computer and re-downloaded it - no improvement. Photoshop then started to get REALLY slow, I did the same process (removed and redownloaded), and no improvement. Last week, it started crashing every time. So now, I'm paying $50/mo for software I cannot use. At all. I can't even crop a photo. Can someone please help me figure out why this is happening and what I can do to fix it - or even to figure out how to go about diagnosing the problem? Everything else on my laptop is working just fine as far as I can tell. No crashes unless I try to open my Adobe programs.

Photoshop and Premiere Pro have STRONG ties to the graphics adapter and driver, and Windows Updates have a LONG history of breaking drivers
What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
    ATI Driver Autodetect http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
    nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
    Dual video problems
Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed
    IF YES, read below

  • Phone no longer working on all wifi networks

I can't say this is a ios4 issue, but in the last few days my phone has stopped working with my home wireless network, but works over the office network. My wireless router is a Netgear Rangemaster. Other devices like ipads and macbook are working fine on the home network and the iphone used to be perfect as well, before and after upgrading to ios4.
I have tried re-booting the phone and sometimes when it powers up it displays the wifi signal strength icon, but as soon as I actually go to the network for something (like using the Stocks app for example) the wifi icon disappears and it's replaced by the little circle.
I have tried re-entering the WEP code etc and deleting and reinstating the network on the phone, but none of that solves this problem. I updated to 4.0.1 yesterday hoping it would be the answer, but it isn't.
    Any ideas?

Make sure your phone is actually picking up your wifi signal at work and not using the 3G internet.
Try these Apple trouble shooting guides:
    Trouble shooting wifi netwroks http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
    Unable to use wifi http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
And if those lead you to an Apple repair tech, you have a hardware problem. If you have the cojones, you can try to repair the hardware yourself like I did http://www.iphonetiquicia.com/repair-iphone-3g-wifi-oven/
I had the cojones to give it a shot and it saved my iPhone. WiFi is now perfectly stable and it no longer runs hot. By the way, that's another indicator, if your iPhone is running hot it could be due to higher resistance in the PCB due to micro-fissures in the solder joints. Once I reflowed my phone it fixed the solder cracks (micro-fissures) and it ran cool like a brand new phone.

  • HT1420 My laptop crashed and I have authorized another laptop. I want to deauthorize the "crashed" computer but it is no longer working. All I can find is how to deauthorize "this" computer. Any way I can do that?

I need to deauthorize a crashed laptop that is no longer usable. I can only find how to deauthorize "this" computer. Can anyone help?

You need to use the Deauthorize All function. Remote individual deauthorization of a crashed computer isn't possible, and remote deauthorization of a working computer requires VNC access to it.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman -Syu not working from chroot

Hey all, after an update today I accidentally broke something - I googled the error message on my Ubuntu install and it sent me to the pacman Arch Wiki page, at the very bottom -
pacman wrote:Q: After updating my system, I get a "unable to find root device" error after rebooting and my system will no longer boot.
A: Most likely your initramfs got broken during a kernel update (inproper use of pacman's --force option can be a cause). Use the below procedure in order to restore it.
Boot from a Arch live-cd. Once booted, run:
    # mkdir /mnt/arch
    # mount /dev/sdx /mnt/arch (your root partition)
    # cd /mnt/arch
    # mount -t proc proc proc/
    # mount -t sysfs sys sys/
    # mount -o bind /dev dev/
    # mount /dev/sdx boot/ (your /boot partition)
    # chroot . /bin/bash
    # pacman -Syu
    # pacman -S udev
    # pacman -S mkinitcpio
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
    Afterwards, unmount and reboot.
OK, so i followed those instructions, however when I got to doing pacman -Syu I get a string of errors:

The second thread said his rc.conf file was on static not dhcp - Mine doesn't have any mention of those two terms in it.
    EDIT:
Well I can't boot into my Arch install so I've not really got a choice other than chroot And I've tried it a few times with no result.
