[SOLVED] pacman upgrade won't work because of unresolved dependency

Hey all,
I tried a pacman -Syyu today and it found some things and said:
:: The following packages should be upgraded first :
    pacman
:: Do you want to cancel the current operation
:: and upgrade these packages now? [Y/n] y
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: gcc: requires gcc-libs=4.6.2-6
I have gcc-libs=4.6.2-7 and I apparently need 4.6.2-6 but I can't change anything without pacman, and pacman won't change anything without updating itself first, and it can't because of this unmet dependency, so there's a stalemate.
Any ideas what to do?

    Programs that require a network connection won't work because there is no virtual IP address available for this session.  Per application IP virtualization is enabled.
    There are in fact available IP address's within the dhcp scope.  Before I dig to deep into root cause.. Could the problem be RDS CAL licensing running out, or isn't that not a symptom of my error message?

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    As per my research, there is no any issue related to RDS CAL licensing. Prior to the issue which you are facing, there are some basic setting which need to configure.
    Application Compatibility – Turn on Remote Desktop IP virtualization
    Some applications require a unique IP address, which is by default logically not the case if the application is running on RD Session Host. To solve this issue, Remote Desktop IP Virtualization is introduced. With this setting you enable the IP virtualization
    feature. When enabling this setting you need to specify if the virtual IP is provided per session or per program. When using per program you need to define the executable to which an IP address should be configured. Desktop IP virtualization also needs the
    configuration of the next setting.
    Application Compatibility – Select the network adapter to be used for Remote Desktop IP Virtualization
    When you need to use Remote Desktop IP virtualization configuring this setting is mandatory. You need to specify the IP address of the Network Interface Card which should be used for this feature. Besides the IP address you need also to specify the network
    mask using the slash notation, for example 192.168.77.201/24.
    Application Compatibility – Do not use Remote Desktop Session Host server IP address when virtual IP address is not available

    Hi,
    You actually tried to install photoshop 5.5 and got the message about it being 16 bit?
    (usually it's only the installer that is 16 bit and the actual program is 32 bit)
    Photoshop 5.5 should work on windows 7 x64 if you don't have more than 1 TB of free space on your hard drive.
    Your sure it's photoshop 5.5 and not an earlier photoshop version.
    You might try copying the folder that says photoshop off the cd onto your hard drive and then running the Setup.exe
    Anyway, check how much free space your hard drive has and if it's more than 1 TB, then no use trying to use photoshop 5.5 because it won't work.
    (photoshop versions before photoshop cs can't see free space on hard drives if it's more than 1 TB and would give a scratch disk full message if you try to run them)

  • How can I copy my music files to my iPAD. The CDs are currently stored in folders on my PC. Note: Synching via iCLOUD won't work because I have VISTA OS and I need at least Windows 7 or 8.

    How can I copy my music files to my iPAD. The CDs are currently stored in folders on my PC. Note: Synching via iCLOUD won't work because I have VISTA OS and I need at least Windows 7 or 8.

    Hi ladextr,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  To sync your music to your iPad, first put your music in iTunes as described here:
    Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
    Adding content on your computer to iTunes
    iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
    From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
    Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
    If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
    Once that's done, you can sync the music to your iPad by following this article:
    iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph12313
    Cheers,

    Hi everyone,
    I bought indesign on february 2nd, and now my old photoshop won't work. I had photoshop CS6. They will not help me in chat and I cannot figure it out. I know there is a way to go into my desktop applications and change some code thing because this has happened before, but clearly I am totally clueless. Any assistance helps. Thanks.

    Check your CS6 version. Creative cloud may have updated your CS6 to subscription version CS6 version 13.1.2.  Where the Perpetual versions of CS6 are Mac version 13.0./6 Windows version 13.0.1.3 there are some differences between these versions.

  • [SOLVED] UEFI shell won't work on Thinkpad Edge E520

    Hi there,
    I have installed the x86_64 UEFI Shell 2.0 on my Thinkpad Edge E520 which is already booting in UEFI mode using refind-efi for some time now. The same shell is running just fine on my desktop system.
    But - on the Thinkpad it doesn't run. The shell is installed as /boot/efi/shellx64.efi and when I start the laptop, refind appears and shows me the shell icon (amoung others). But when I choose the shell from refind I get a black screen with this writing:
    Starting shellx64.efi
    Using load options ' '
    ASSERT_EFI_ERROR (Status = Device Error)
    ASSERT c:\dev\edk2tip\Build\Shell\RELEASE_VS2005\X64\ShellPkg\Application\Shell\Shell\DEBUG\AutoGen.c (431): !EFI_ERROR (Status)_
    I don't know if the text is going on after the last underline. If yes I cannot see it because the text is running out of the screen.
    The funny thing is - exactly the same setup is working pretty nice on my Asrock ITX board but not on the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E520.
    Any ideas? Just say, if you need further information.

    Okay, found the - somewhat obvious - solution myself. The UEFI Bios on my Thinkpad is an "old" UEFI 2.0. So, Shell 2.0 won't work on this system (as I could have read in the wiki ).
    Now, I have installed Shell 1.0 and I can enter the shell from refind .

    The command will not work from a terminal emulator.  You still have bash running when you close the terminal emulator.  All you are clearing is that terminal instance's history.  To completely clear the history file with the command 'history -c', you need to run it from the login shell.
    You could use this to clear the history file:

  • When I download iTunes on my PC, it says it won't work because I am missing the apple support aplication. How do I download that?

    Anyone know why iTunes (64 bit) won't work on my PC? It says I need an apple support application? Thanks for your help!

    With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
    Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
    Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
    Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
    Does it install properly for you?
    If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • [solved] pacman -Syy and -Syu work, but packages won't install

    Hello, everyone. I'm really new to Arch, but I did search all over Google and the forums and couldn't find an answer to this, so I thought I'd ask the forums.
    I just installed Arch, and I'm trying to install sudo.
    When I run pacman -S sudo, I get:
    sudo package not found, searching for group...
    error: 'sudo': not found in syncdb
    However, when I run pacman -Syy, I get:
    ::Synchronizing package databases...
    error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.kernel.org: File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
    ...(other similar errors from other mirrors)
    core     4.1K     43.7K/s     00:00:00 [##########] 100%
    ...(same for extra and community)
    (Sorry I didn't copy the entire output out, I'm not connected to the internet on the Arch computer, so I'm typing this by hand on another one. I tried a bunch of mirrors earlier, and only one mirror actually works: the Arch one, which as a download cap.)
    So my package databases are getting updated, but somehow pacman isn't recognizing them or something.
    I updated pacman to see if that would work.
    pacman -V
    Pacman v3.3.3 - libalpm v4.0.3
    It didn't.
    I'm running 2.6.33-ARCH according to lib/modules.
    I haven't changed my etc/pacman.conf. [core] and its Include, [extra] and its Include, and [community] and its Include are all uncommented. No packages are ignored.
    My etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist was updated from the Arch Mirror Generator. I uncommented everything in United States.
    I have internet set up, and I've tried taking down wlan0 and putting it back up. iwconfig shows that wlan0 works and is connected, and I'm pinging google.com successfully, so I know internet works.
    Thanks in advance for any help, and please let me know if I'm missing any information. I tried to be thorough.

  • [SOLVED] lxdm autologin won't work since last upgrade

    Hi,
    Since last upgrade, lxdm won't autologin anymore.
    I had a lxdm.conf.pacnew file wich added only a commented line that I added into the conf file, wich does look like this :
    [base]
    ## uncomment and set autologin username to enable autologin
    #autologin=dgod
    autologin=Olaff
    ## uncomment and set timeout to enable timeout autologin,
    ## the value should >=5
    # timeout=10
    ## default session or desktop used when no systemwide config
    session=/usr/bin/startlxde
    #session=/usr/bin/openbox-session
    ## uncomment and set to set numlock on your keyboard
    # numlock=0
    ## set this if you don't want to put xauth file at ~/.Xauthority
    # xauth_path=/tmp
    # not ask password for users who have empty password
    # skip_password=1
    ## greeter used to welcome the user
    greeter=/usr/lib/lxdm/lxdm-greeter-gtk
    [server]
    ## arg used to start xserver, not fully function
    arg=/usr/bin/X -background vt1
    # uncomment this if you really want xserver listen to tcp
    # tcp_listen=1
    # uncoment this if you want reset the xserver after logou
    # reset=1
    [display]
    ## gtk theme used by greeter
    gtk_theme=Clearlooks
    ## background of the greeter
    # bg=/usr/share/backgrounds/default.png
    ## if show bottom pane
    bottom_pane=1
    ## if show language select control
    lang=1
    ## if show keyboard layout select control
    keyboard=0
    ## the theme of greeter
    theme=Industrial
    [input]
    [userlist]
    ## if disable the user list control at greeter
    disable=0
    ## whitelist user
    white=
    ## blacklist user
    black=
    Since there were no uncommented lines added, I assumed it would make no difference.
    Edit :
    Now, the system goes to the login screen instead of autologin.
    lxdm brings me to my session if I log in however.

    Not sure why OlaffTheGreat uses LXDM, but I use it because you get it for free as part of the LXDE group, and I'm too lazy to change it.  My security is the 30 to 40 character passphrase I need to unlock my encrypted drives.  Then having to type in an 8 character easily guessed user password is beyond annoying.
    I just checked my pacman cache files and it looks like the upgrade to 0.4-1-25 is when I first got the error (currently listed as 9 days ago which would be about right).  I upgraded, booted and got the login screen that I was not supposed to.  I had just merged the pacnew file so it was fresh in my head and made the changes I described.  Booted again and got the autologin and I didn't think another thing about it until I saw this post earlier today.  Upgraded again this weekend to 0.4-1-27 with no problems.
