[SOLVED] Pcmanfm doesn't start

After upgrading pcmanfm to the latest version, I am no longer able to start it. Launching it from command line doesn't give out errors, warning messages or anything suspicious. My WM is openbox.

Same here.
Although I do get some errors:
(pcmanfm:4054): Gtk-WARNING **: Ni mogoče najti pogona tem v poti module_path: "clearlooks",
(pcmanfm:4054): Gtk-WARNING **: Ni mogoče najti pogona tem v poti module_path: "murrine",

(pcmanfm:4054): Gtk-WARNING **: Ni mogoče najti pogona tem v poti module_path: "murrine",
pcmanfm: symbol lookup error: pcmanfm: undefined symbol: fm_path_new_for_str
But i think they were here before the update and pcmanfm worked fine

    Any help?
I tried to reinstall dependencies of xorg-server and mesa. And then I even went through with the whole system update which I postponed for a few weeks because of the KDE changes. Sadly even the whole system update didn't help.
Is it possible that any old config files can cause this?
    EDIT:
I tried kernel parameter "nouveau.modeset=0" but it didn't help.

Ok, I guess I solved it by reinstalling xf86-video-nouveau.
Funny business! Why did the upgrade to xorg-server 1.17.1 force me to remove it when it is still needed??
And why does that lead to mysterious error messages and segfault??
I discovered it accidentally when I stumbled upon the fact that the package was still installed on my newer x86-64 Arch installation despite being on xorg-server 1.17.1.

  • [SOLVED] projectM doesn't start

    Hello,
today I realized that "projectM-pulseaudio" doesn't start anymore, I get the following error:
projectM-pulseaudio: error while loading shared libraries: libGLEW.so.1.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Can anybody confirm this or give me a hint how to solve it?
    Thanks,

Problem solved, obviously my fault, projectm-pulseaudio is a package that I installed from AUR (I thought it is part of projectm from community), so recompiling solved the problem.

  • [SOLVED] GVim doesn't start

    Hello there,
I'm on a brand new arch installation on my laptop and can't seem to start gvim.
Issuing `vim` works just fine, but gvim sits there, doing nothing for a long time, 'till I decide to ^C it, which gives:
ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = <PID-OF-GVIM>, errno = 4
    Any tips on solving this?
    A couple of notes:
    * The same package version works just fine
    * Calling 'gvim' with '--noplugin' doesn't help either
    packages:
    gvim 7.2.266-2
    vim 7.2.266-1

Okay, a quick feedback about what's going on:
The culprit is actually WICD (yeah, WTF!). I've been talking to a friend and he's told me he had the same issue, but with EMACS instead of VIM.
I've re-re-instaled Arch on my notebook and gvim was working alright until I installed WICD.
    The problem:
    * Uninstalling wicd and everything that got pulled in together does NOT solve it
    Some workarounds:
    * Starting GVIM with '-X' works
    * For emacs, adding 'YOUR-GIVEN-IP HOSTNAME.LOCALHOST HOSTNAME' to /etc/hosts makes it work again, according to my friend. This didn't help me with vi. (EDIT: Reference: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216311#c6 )
I'm trying to find a fix for it right now.
    Any clues?
    EDIT: Problem solved!
It was actually a bug with gtk-qt-engine and kde4. I was led to believe it was WICD due to my friends prior issues and the fact that gtk-qt-engine was not misbehaving before installing wicd (probably because I hadn't rebooted). Reference: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/270972

i want tranmission auto start when i boot into arch so i add 'tranmission-gtk --minimized' into autostart file but when i restart my machine transmission doesn't start to tray
is this bug? or i do something wrong? how can i solve this problem:(

if i use transmission-cli.will it continue download my file from tranmission-gtk?
If you start tranmission-daemon like this:
    transmission-daemon -g /home/<your_username>/.config/transmission
it will inherit your current settings, including any current downloads.
EDIT: It seems the bug you're encountering has been fixed for version 2.5 ([extra] version is 2.42).

  • [solved] GDM doesn't start gnome- Thinkpad A31

I've has Arch on this old beast for about a month now, without a problem. Now when I fire it up, gnome doesn't start, and I get a message saying: GdmDisplay lasted 1.7 seconds. Does it on reboot, does it in fallback mode.
What's the fix for gdm and gnome?
I reinstalled gdm and startx worked, unlike when this problem occurred. Reinstalled gnome as a "just-in-case," insurance move. After rebooting, gnome works again.

so anyone tell me what permissions I have gotten wrong & how can I get mysql to work again?
Last edited by cool (2012-12-02 18:26:18)

    1. You have to start mysqld as root using either sudo or from your root account
    2. The safest way to start mysql is using the unit file (systemd) or service file (rc.d) -- e.g. 'sudo systemctl mysqld start'
    3. My /var/lib/mysql directory has the following permissions 700 and owner/group is mysql/mysql. With those permissions, you're not going to be able to view the contents of the directory unless you are root or that user.

  • [SOLVED] firefox3 doesn't start

Firefox3 doesn't start and does not produce any console output and doesn't use cpu either. I tried both a self-compiled version using spookyet's package as well as the binaries from mozilla using the firefox3-bin pkgbuild in the AUR.
To make sure there are no extensions interfering I deleted the ~/.mozilla/firefox directory, although there's still a swiftweasel folder in ~/.mozilla, but this shouldn't matter right?
I'm using xulrunner version 1.8.1.14 if that's important. I also theorized that it has something to do with compiz, but disabling it doesn't change anything though.
So, did anybody else have this problem and/or knows how to fix it?
Edit: Oh, I just noticed, that I posted that in the wrong forum, could a moderator please move this to "Workstation User", I apologize for the inconvenience.

See this forum thread about Firefox hanging during startup; the bug in Firefox Bugzilla is marked fixed, but maybe the discussion will give you any interesting idea.
When I had found, that my apparently broken FF3 works when run as root, and there is no permission related errors in strace output, I started with comparison of environment variables, and this eventually led me to the workaround, maybe try it.

I use alsa, but it isn't working, I don't know why. When I exec alsamixer as root it says cannot connect. When I use as my user open but, instead of my card (intel), it's PulseAudio.
I use the volume control widget from vicious, then, it wasn't loading.

Only switching to the preferences and to the calendar or something else is causing a new bug buddy and evolution is dumping away
On a third machine I'm running evolution some time and had no problems of this kind so far.

Okay, so it's a missing dependency. I'll fix the package.

  • [SOLVED]TeamViewer doesn't start with Wine

Hello, I installed TeamViewer, the remote control program. I downloaded it here : http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx
On Wine appdb page, TeamViewer seems to be supported : http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p … n&iId=5956
I used default options for the installation, at end in the terminal wine seems to be frozen, so I ctrl-c.
I tried to launch TeamViewer in terminal with :
    wine "C:\Program Files\TeamViewer\Version4\TeamViewer.exe"
But I got this message :
    $ wine "C:\Program Files\TeamViewer\Version4\TeamViewer.exe"

I tried the installation twice and it is the same problem.
EDIT: After discussion #winehq, it seems to be a heap corruption, I found a workaround : WINEDEBUG=+seh,+tid,+heap wine TeamViewer.exe &>/tmp/relay.txt
It will launch TeamViewer. Bugzilla page at : http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18569

I faced this problem while I was running Ultrasurf  on Wine, the problems seems to be with the DLL files. I installed them using winetricks as instructed here http://www.bytechip.com/2011/06/how-to- … s-in-wine/ and solved the issue.
