[solved] qt apps look ugly in gnome 3

Hi, All my qt apps (vlc clementine) look really ugly. They are not following the system theme. How can I fix it ?
Last edited by eklavya (2011-05-09 19:46:42)

If by system theme you are referring to the gtk theme, then yes, of course qt won't be using the same theme because, well, it's qt. Try googling for a qt version of your gnome 3 theme. It won't look exactly the same, but that's an age old problem arising from a long long time ago.
However, if you have already set an equivalent theme for qt and it's not showing up then yes, it's a bug.

  • [SOLVED] GTK3 Apps Look Crappy in XFCE4

    Hello,
I've been running XFCE4 for a while, and I have several GTK3 applications that don't look very good, such as Glade (extra/glade 3.10.0-2), or even things as simple as my ScreenShot scripts, that I have bound to <Print> and <Alt>Print.
Here is a screenshot of my ScreenShot script.
and a screenshot of Glade 3.10.0.
MOD EDIT : follow image posting rules -- Inxsible

Now, I did think it was part of my script using Zenity for my screenshot, until it did it in Glade too.
I tried using these fixes I found in the forums.
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 88#p935988
    and
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 73#p914873
Neither of which actually worked. Maybe it was just my computer, but neither seemed to have worked. Are there any fixes for this issue?

  • [Solved] System fully up-to-date, apps look for old libs

Even though the system is fully updated from a fresh mirror, apps look for older libs: e.g. irssi and wget look for libssl.so.0.9.8, building wget with makepkg wants libgmp.so.3 (the latest is 10). ldd run on said apps returns the newer lib versions, e.g. "libssl.so.1.0.0 => /usr/lib/libssl.so.1.0.0".  The newer libs are present in /usr/lib/. I've reinstalled the whole toolchain, problematic libs and apps. I've removed ld.so.cache and run ldconfig - it shows libssl.so.1.0.0, not libssl.0.9.8 too.
I have no idea why apps still want older libs. Any ideas will be appreciated.
    -edit-
    Fixed the typo.

Another possibility is that you have the correct theme but don't have the associated theme engine installed.  Poke around the themes a bit:
For a GTK2 theme: in the "theme/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" file look for the line that says "engine" and a name.  Make sure you have that name installed.
For a GTK3 theme: in the "theme/gtk-3.0/gtk.css" file also look for "engine" and the name.  Also make sure that engine is installed.
Themes are almost always in "/usr/share/themes/theme_name"
The files you look for to see which engine a theme uses may be in different files than the ones specified above, poke around in the files.  The file that specifies the engine will be a text file so you can look at them using "less" or an alternative.

  • When using unaliased fonts GTK2 apps look messy

I use antialiasing with exclude range of 8-13px, the small fonts are readable this way. But the same error occurs when using no antialiased fonts. (i use verdana or arial, but the result is the same)
the GTK2 apps look like on the picture below:

  • To make KDE apps look like KDE apps

    Hi everybody!
I am very new to Arch so please don't be hard on me. :-)
I have some problem with looks of apps. I use Gnome but I also have Xfce and KDE installed. My KDE apps look like this:
As you can see - buttons of Gnome on KDE app. I want to make all apps look like the DE they belong. How do I do that?

I think that that it would be very hard to use Oxygen effects outside KDE (not kwin: oxygen style has it's own effects).
When you turn off those effects in KDE apps lok exactlly the same as on your image.
With effects they look like this:
Maybe someone has managed to „tweak" something.... hope so.

    Hello Archers
I'm still trying Openbox, and I've met a problem with VLC media player
It really looks UGLY under Openbox, I've searched a little bid, and found that VLC use Qt
I thing that it's THE problem I must have an ugly qt thême set by default...
I googled that, I found something called "Qgtkstyle" and "Qtconfig" but any of them are in the repo
I would like to be able to set a cute qt theme, but I do not want to install too many apps from KDE (I'm very limited by my HDD (2GB))
    Thank you

Qtconfig is in the package qt. The style of qt apps is in /usr/lib/qt/plugins/styles. Look this http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=90720. I think that  you can copy the style from some installation with kde.

  • Native Mac Apps looking strange

I'm having issues with the pre-installed OSX apps.
As you can see in the picture, the OSX apps look very strange with weird/incorrect buttons and backgrounds. This is happening on all the native OSX apps, not just Mail. This problem isnt effecting the performance at all, and all the buttons still work as they are supposed to, but it just isnt what it is supposed to be.
PS Dont mind the big white boxes, that isnt part of the problem, I just cut out my personal info. Issues are what is in Red Circles.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue of the rainbow circle buttons/media icon looking background? Other buttons are incorrect as well
I haven't had this issue up until the past week or so, but seeing as I'm in the middle of finals I dont really have the time to try to restore my computer, but I have tried:
    Restart
    Reset PRAM and SMC
Used OnyX... reset permissions, did whole cleaning

Actually it worked only with one theme: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&secti … 3#/d34mspx

No I'm not using cairo. I rebuilded the unico engine and followed your tip but it didn't work. I had this problem with fedora16 too. Anyway I think it's too much of a hussle just for a couple of themes since there are a lot of themes to choose from.

I tried recalibrating my battery, signing out of iCloud, shutting off all locations, turning off background app refresh, restoring network settings, restoring all, and finally restoring from iTunes with no luck. This is frustrating and needs to be fixed ASAP and addressed by Apple.
By the way, Apple told me to bring my device to the Apple Store because it's still under warranty. That's great and all, but I'm going to waste my time if there is no fix for this issue.
Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.
