[SOLVED]Recreating packages from installed files?

Just a simple question. Suppose I do this:
pacman -U pkg-foo.tar.xz
# it installs successfully
rm pkg-foo.tar.xz
Is there a way to recreate the package file from the installed files and metadata on the system?
Sorry if this is obvious, but I can't find anything on it.

  • Compiling a package from source files

I am trying to install a package from source files. The installation instructions for this package say that I should just download the scripts to one directory, enter the correct paths in the Makefile (which comes with the package) and run "make".
The problem is that while the g++ compiler is there on my computer
(there is a binary called g++ located at
    /Developer/usr/bin/g++
I am not sure if that is the real compiler. Or where the c header files are, for instance, I can't find math.h, or stdio.h or any of the other standard files.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am very new to command lines, so please explain as you would to a five year old.
To help with specifics, I edited the Makefile so that the first part looks like:
    #MATLABDIR ?= /usr/local/matlab
    # for Mac
    MATLABDIR ?= /Applications/MATLAB_R2008b.app
    CXX ?= g++
    #CXX = g++-4.1
    CFLAGS = -Wall -Wconversion -O3 -fPIC -I$(MATLABDIR)/extern/include
Thanks a ton for the help

Your compiler program is gcc. (/usr/bin/gcc).
    http://gcc.gnu.org/
in terminal type (at the prompt):
    gcc --version
    (press return)
    should output the following:
    i686-apple-darwin10-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5646) (dot 1)
Copyright (C) 2007 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO
warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
If it does, your compiler is alive and kicking and ready for action, if not, reinstall developer tools
package from your SL install DVD.
The usual ritual for compiling is to drag the directory containing the source code to your desktop,
then, in terminal, change terminal path to the source directory using the change directory command
    "cd".
example; say I have a program called cdrtools 2.0.1 and the source is in a folder I dragged to my
    desktop called cdrtools_2.0.1:
    In terminal i would type:
    cd /Users/kj/Desktop/cdrtools_2.0.1
Follow the instructions that come with the package. Typically they will tell you to:
    ./configure
( Many packages have a configure script which will query your system and configure themselves
appropriately. Not supported by all software).
    make
( Compile the software. Some require a file name to build such as make foo. make reads a file
normally called Makefile for what commands to run).
    make install
( Install the software. Typically packages will put themselves in /usr/local. Run as root).
That is the usual ritual, but you must follow the instructions that come with the software, as they
    may vary.
    Read documentation!
Look for files called: INSTALL, README, SETUP, or similar.
For more information see the following:
    http://luv.asn.au/overheads/compile.html
Now beware that some source code written before Snow Leopard was released may not compile
properly on SL, because of SL's 64Bit gcc extensions. If the source has not been updated to run
under the Snow Leopard compiler, then the compilation may fail.
IF the program fails to compile, or fails to run after compiling, then most likely, then the source
    may need updating.
good luck, and don't pull all your hair out at once. Save some for later.

  • Antivirus software is blocking Bonjour install - can I remove Bonjour from install file?

My work laptop has some restrictions that prevent me from installing Itunes 10.7 with Bounjour. Earlier it could be done by unzipping the instal file and delete the Bonjour install file, then install Itunes. I have some problems doing it with the new Itunes installer, anf would very much like some suggestions to how it can be done.

I would think first about removing your anti-virus software. If you cannot do that, then you should disable it before doing any system software updates.

  • [SOLVED] Copy packages from current Arch install to new Arch install

    Hello!
I'm new to Arch, so that's why I'm posting in the newbie corner. I've been looking everywhere for an answer to this: I want to do a fresh install of my system, but my internet connection is sort of messed up right now (unusually slow). I noticed that every package I have installed on my current Arch are saved in /var/cache/pacman/pkg. Could I make a backup of that directory onto another partition on my hard drive, reinstall Arch, and restore the backup to that same directory in the new install? Would pacman "think" it's already downloaded and skip the download step alltogether?
    Thanks.

Honestly, *I* think, that the manpage is enough and you don't need the wiki (in this case at least).
You know what, do a test, pick a couple packages, copy them somewhere and create a tiny local repo.
Awesome! I managed to make pacman read the package db I created using add-repo.
I added the repo to the pacman.conf. Had to do a little trial & error to figure out I had to put it like this:
    [name of db file]
    Server = file:///path/to/folder_of_db partition
I was trying to put the file.db.tar.gz complete rute. Of course, pacman let me know with an error that wasn't right.
I tried installing something simple, like wine. First, I did a sudo pacman -Scc to clear the cache. Then I did sudo pacman -S wine. It installed successfully! I'm gonna try with a fresh install this afternoon. I'll let you know of the result.
    Thanks everyone!

  • HELP! Make batch PDF's or Batch package from multiple files.

Hi, as the title suggests, I need to find a way of automating the creation of either PDF's from a bunch of Indesign CS6 files. Based on a Macintosh and CS6.
    History
We make a magazine every month and its files are exported to a certain standard PDF's 1.3 for the printer. This way the transparencies are unflattened. I need the PDF's again for a digital application. it can't handle 1.3. If I could make these as 1.4 my problems would be solved. Alas I need to find a way of batch processing these.
    Scenario:
50 folders each containing 1 x indesign file.
Need to open, ignore dialgoue warnings, export pdf to folder, close the file, move onto the next folder and then do the same.
    A bit like Apple's Automator.
    Or the other idea...
Open up the folder, package the folder, close the file and move onto the next folder.
I know this is a big ask, but wondered if this was possible?
    My only other option is...
I have 180 PDF's in 1.3 format, can I change the file format to 1.4 and then save? I thought Apples Automator would do this but it doesn't.
    All help is massively appricated.

  • Editing and Compling a Database Package from a file

    Hi,
I'd like to know if there is a way to open and edit a database specification and body source code file from the filesystem, and also be able to compile this is SQL Developer.
Currently I am able to open the .pks and .pkb files and I get 'Compile' and 'Compile for Debug' icons. However, when I hit these buttons they appear to do nothing. No messages are displayed to say if the package is compiled successfully or unsuccessfully. What I have noticed though is that the code is executed and the package is created on the database but there is no feedback. If I 'complile' a package that I know is invalid, the package becomes invalid in the database and vice versa. But I have no way of knowing this until I check the package on the database.
If I am doing something wrong or there is another way to do this, then please let me know. I really want to be able to work on these files from the filesystem rather than the database.
SQL Developer 1.5.1 on Windows 2000.
    Cheers,
    Jon.

    Jon,
The current SQL Dev support for file based development in this area isn't wonderful. However, the output of "compiling" a PL/SQL file with the compile button (ie running as script) is shown in the Script Output tab of the Log dockable window. If you have the window docked and the Script Output tab selected, then it will normally display the following where the package body is invalid:
    Warning: execution completed with warning
    PACKAGE BODY MY_PACKAGE_PKG Compiled.
To show the errors there, you will need to use something like after the CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY statement:
    SHOW ERRORS PACKAGE BODY MY_PACKAGE_PKG
The output doesn't always appear and the treatment of compilation errors is nowhere near as good as when compiling directly in the database where you can jump to the error location with a double click.

  • How to build a package from local files?

I have a couple of git projects cloned on my hd which I'd like to package. Now, it seems unneccessary to make a tarball of the files and move it to the build directory.... I've also tried to add the path to the source dir as the source line -- source=("/path/to/repo/*"), but that doesn't work either.
what's the correct way to do this?

Not quite, but close enough, I suppose. I have a ~/src tree and a ~/pkg tree, and my original question was -- to be more precise -- if I can tell makepkg, directly or in the PKGBUILD, to look in a certain folder in the src tree for the files to use for the pkg. I guess I can symlink to the ~/src directory. Thanks for the pointer.

  • [solved]variable using ~ from a file

To put the things in short, I am trying to share some files/directory using quickserve and want to pass the file list thro' another file. before actual sharing I am trying to  test the actual file's existence but it fails with ~ / $HOME options.
    File : ToExport.txt
    contents:
    ~/Documents/File1.dot
    ~/Documents/File2.ods
    /mnt/backup
the said file is passed as an argument to the bash script
    Test function ...
    for isvalid in $(cat "$1")
    do
    if [ -e "$isvalid" ]
    then
    echo "$isvalid passed for sharing"
    else
    echo "$isvalid does not exisits"
    exit 4
    fi
    done
This fails. If I replace ~ with actual path it works.
(It may be easy to replace the entire list with the actual path by the simple search & replace funtion but the indention is to use the short form  ~ or $HOME instead of typing full path.
    your inputs/correction are welcome

    This should work:
    #!/bin/bash
#: Description : Checks file list to see files contained exist/are empty
    fileList=/home/tom/fileList
    ## Go through each file in the fileList
    while read aFile
    do
    ## expand tildes (~)
    eval aFile=$aFile
    ## check file exists
    if [ -e $aFile ]
    then
    ## check file is non-empty
    if [ -s $aFile ]
    then
    printf "%s is a file.\n" $aFile
    else
    printf "%s is an empty file.\n" $aFile
    fi
else ## file does not exist
    printf "%s does not exist.\n" $aFile
    fi
    done < <( cat $fileList )
That code is a little more readable too. You where using the variable "isValid" for a file name.

Sometime you installed a package, but you don't know the name of the command to run and you don't know the name and location of the configuration files. There are conventions but is there a way to show those information explicitly?

That's a partial solution. Suppose I installed a package called gtk-vim, but the binary is gvim and I didn't know that. If I use
    locate gtk-vim
    it will not find "gvim".
Besides, different packages may install files with names identical or partially identical. What I want to find out is what files a specific package installed or removed, or changed, just like the deb package manager in ubuntu.
