[Solved] Referencing another View Objects Bind Variables

Hello,
I have a Master view object and a detail object.
The Master object, vProjects, has a bind variable :pProjectId that the user selects by using a selectOneChoice component. The View object vSections then shows only those Sections that have the selected ProjectId.
I have a view link to get to the lower level which connects vSections to vRequirements.
This works well except that the vRequirements lists all requirements that match the SecID I pass through the link. I need it to list only the ones that match the SecID AND the ProjectId chosen earlier.
Is there a way to reference the bind variable that I used in vProjects inside of vRequirements?

I have two pages in ADF BC application. In the first page ,i will give a drop down menu to user which displays all the table names in my databse.
when the user selects a table and goes to the second page..he should be given a menu or a check list of all the columns in the user selected table....
to display the columns i have used the query
Select COLUMN_NAME from user_tab_columns where table_name = : table_name in the view object.
now how to bind the user selected table value in the first page to the table_name bind variable in view object ?

Hi,
depends on how the select box is implemented. With ADF and ADF Faces, the default value selection is the list index. In a value change listener you could look up the selected value from the underlying iterator. Store this value e.g. in a session attribute and point the NDValue of the ExecuteWithParams operation to #{sessionScope.your_attribute}

Detail view with bind variable. TreeTable not showing all detail result.

I’m having trouble with treeTable using detail view with bind variables and where clause defined in VO definition.
Both, master and detail view objects, base on the same entity and have the same condition in where clause. The view objects also have bind variables, which are set in prepareRowSetForQuery() method.
Again, these are two different views, that get different result, based on value of one of the bind variable.
When I show results in two different tables on jsf page, where master table has "RowSelection" set on "single", all results are displayed in detail table.
But when I use treeTable, only the first result of the detail is shown.

I tested it in applicationModule and it works, but i think that's the same as two tables on a jsf page.
This is the order in which overridden methods are called in ADF BC or two tables on jsf page
when clicking on row in master table.

Varray of Objects "Bind variable not declared" error.. I don't want a bind variable.

This program is supposed to pull values from a table using a loop, and in the loop, put the values in objects in a varray. I'm new to objects and am stumped trying to get this program to run. When I attempt to run it in SQL*Plus I get the following feedback:

View with Bind Variable and ADF table

Hi all,
Please note what i have noticed. I created a view with a bind parameter, overriden the prepareSession of my Application Module to set the bind parameter and execute the query. I then created a simple jsf page and included the view as an adf read-only table. When i run the page, the prepareSession is called, sets the bind parameter, however the selected record of the table is always the second record (Not the first record).
This behaviour can be reproduced with the HR schema. Please follow the below instructions for reproducing the problem.
1. Create a Fusion Web Application (ADF).
2. Create business components from tables.
3. Create a new connection with the HR schema.
4. Import the Departments table as an entity and then click finish.
5. Create a view based on the Departments entity.
6. Modify the Query to include a where clause (where DDepartmentsEO.DEPARTMENT_NAME LIKE :BindParam)
7. Provide an order by clause (DepartmentsEO.DEPARTMENT_ID DESC)
8. Creata a bind variable named "BindParam" of type string.
9. Create an Application Module and include the view object.
10. Open the Application Module Class and override the prepareSession method
11. include the following code after super.prepareSession(session):

myView.setNamedWhereClauseParam("BindParam", "%");
myView.executeQuery();
12. Create a jsf page
13. Drag the view object on the page as an adf read-only table, selecting the Row Selection, Sorting and Filtering

First of all i would like to thank you for replying to my thread.
Secondly, i would like to inform you that the example that i have provided is just for REPRODUCTION purposes.
The real scenario has to do with setting the where clause with the authenticated user so that the view will query for data only associated with the authenticated user.
The only way to overcome this behaviour is to include a view action (namedWhereClause in the page definition)
However, this is not how i want to implement this. This was working properly in 10g

View Link Bind variable issue

I have a view link defined which and both the VO are part of my AM.
At run time i am supposed to get the list of notes for a particular line. (the view link establishes this connection). However when i run my application i am not getting any records. Below SQL is getting fired for each request

[SOLVED] ADF BC : View Object "second level" Entity reference issue

If I insert a row in a View Object that uses "two levels" of Entity references, the attributes of the Entity on the "second level" don't get a value.
Consider these tables:
MY_ROW (MY_ROW_ID, MY_ROW_STUFF, MY_ROW_LU1_ID)
MY_ROW_LU1 (MY_ROW_LU1_ID, MY_ROW_LU1_STUFF, MY_ROW_LU1_LU1_ID)
MY_ROW_LU1_LU1 (MY_ROW_LU1_LU1_ID, MY_ROW_LU1_LU1_STUFF)
Where MY_ROW.MY_ROW_LU1_ID is a "look-up" in MY_ROW_LU1 and MY_ROW_LU1.MY_ROW_LU1_LU1_ID is a "second level look-up" in MY_ROW_LU1_LU1.
I created default Entities and Associations on these tables and a View Object that uses all 3 Entities (MyRow as Updatable, MyRowLu1 and MyRowLu1Lu1 as Reference).

problem scenario:
If run the MyRowService Application Module in the Oracle Business Component Browser and "open" the MyRowViewAll View Object instance, I get the rows and their related "look-up values".
If I click the "Insert a new record" button and fill out values for MyRowId, MyRowStuf and MyRowLu1IdEntity, I only get "look-up" values for the "first level". While the "second level" stays empty.
For example, a MyRowLu1IdEntity of "2003" gives a MyRowLu1Stuff value of "2003 stuff", but no value in MyRowLu1Lu1Stuff.
What am I doing wrong? What should I change to also get a value in the "second level" MyRowLu1Lu1Stuff attribute?

Jan,
If you create a view object on Emp and Dept, with Dept as a reference entity, you might choose to build the view object to only include the:
Emp.Empno (required, since it's the PK of Emp entity usage)
Emp.Ename (included since you want to show the ename)
Dept.Deptno (required, since it's the PK of the Dept entity usage)
Dept.Dname (included since you want to show the dname)
The wizard enforces the inclusion of the required attributes above.
When you run this view object, a join is performed and you see the reference data.
Now, if you want to allow the user to UPDATE the reference data, you need to add one more attribute to the list of attributes:
Emp.Empno
Emp.Ename
Emp.Deptno (To allow user to change Deptno employee belongs to)Dept.Deptno
Dept.Dname
At this point, not only is the join performed for you, but the ADF BC reference mechanism reacts to any modification of the Emp.Deptno attribute, correctly showing the reference information for that new foreign-key-referenced department (even before commiting and requerying, at which time the SQL join would pickup that correct, related information).
The "second level" problem you describe in this thread is simply the same issue described here as a master/first-level-detail situation, taken to its logical next step. If you want the end-user to be able to change the second-level detail to which the first-level-detail is associated, you need to include the first-level-detail's foreign key attributes in the view object's select list. Otherwise, there is no foreign key attribute whose value-change event the framework can react to in order to coordinate the related reference data in the row.

View Accessor Bind Variables not implemented yet

When i try to use a view aceesor that has bind variables, and try to configure the value of the bind variable the message is that it is not implemented yet...
Will this be in the next release?
Is there a workaround?
I am trying to use this for list of values fields, can i pass the variable in any other way?

Well, probably this is one more issue fixed after TP2 release...
I just have an entity based view and a query bessed view with a bind variable.
I add the query based view in the accessors of Entity Based view in order to create a LOV item.
I select edit to edit the accessor.
I see my bind variable in the bind parameter values region.
i click on the value field to set the value.
A button (edit) apears to the left ot the field.
I click that button and a popup message a message apears: Business Components E_NOTIMP Not Implemented, yet.
Does that work for you?
I just want to set the value equal to an Attribute of my entity based view, should i just type the attribute name?

How do I query changed view object attribute in another view object

My requirement is that I want to be able to query a view object (based on entity) on a non-key attribute where the value I am searching on may either be in the database on an existing record or, have just been recorded by updating a different view object based on the same entity (and yet to be committed).
When querying the second view object for a value just updated via a different view object, the second view object always returns no rows. I had expected the process to be :

ViewObjectA - query row with key = 123. update attribute Y with value 456 (attribute Y in database null). Entity cache for EntityA, key 123, atttribute Y updated with value 456

[SOLVED] Row level view object validation (cross-field/multi-field)

Hi,
I'm trying to implement a validation rule across multiple view object fields in ADF 11g (11.1.1.2.0). I have 4 fields that the user needs to either leave all blank or there are some pretty complicated rules around which fields should be specified in combination. I'm having trouble using standard expression type validation rules because:
- The validation rule is always attached to a particular field
- The validation rule is not executed if the field is left blank. I need it to.
- I can't control which field the validation message shows in (it always shows in the field on which the rule is attached).

It's fairly long and complex solution though, which quite a lot of code to be written. This example is from 10g (in 2007). Does anyone know of a more elegant way to achieve this in 11g (in 2010 :) )?

Thanks John! I didn't realise you could define entity-level rules - now found it in the Business Rules section of the entity properties.
One more question: is there any way that I can specify which field is in error when an entity-level validation fails? It would be nice if my error message was attached to the field that is in error.

Bad query plan for self-referencing CTE view query and variable in WHERE clause. Is there way out or this is SQL Server defect?

Prerequisites: sql query needs to be a view. Real view is more than recursion. It computes location path, is used in JOINs and returns this path.
Problem: no matter what I tried, sql server does not produce 'index seek' when using variable but does with literal.

I expect that query SELECT lcCode FROM dbo.vwLocationCodes l WHERE l.lcID = @lcID will seek UNIQUE index but it does not.
I tried these:
1. Changing UX and/or PK to be CLUSTERED.
2. query OPTION(RECOMPILE)
3. FORCESEEK on view
4. SQL Server 2012/2014
5. Wrap it into function and CROSS APPLY. On large outer number of rows this just dies, no solution
but to no avail. This smells like a bug in SQL Server. I am seeking your confirmation.
I am thinking it is a bug as variable value is high-cardinality, 1, and query is against unique key. This must produce single seek, depending if clustered or nonclustred index is unique

I am trying LEFT JOIN and OUTER APLLY to 'bend' query into NESTED LOOP and SEEK. There has to be nested loop, 2 rows against 4. But SQL Server fails to generate optimal plan with SEEK. Even RECOMPILE does not help

How to get user browser locale from view object

Hello,
Currently, I have a view object that's used to retrieve localized messages from data base. The resource table looks like the following:
MSG_ID VARCHAR2, --> specify the L10N resource reference
LOCALE VARCHAR2, --> used to specify the user locale (browser locale)
MESSAGE VARCHAR2 --> real message
I'm creating a bind variable (let's say it 'RequestLocale') in this view object to specify the locale and to get the expected L10N message. Currently, the value for this bind is set as an Expression with value of 'viewObject.DBTransaction.session.locale.toString()'.
After defining the view object (and the bind variable like above), I created a table by dragging the view object to a jsf page, and run and open the page in a web browser. It seems that the messages (specified by the locale) could be retrieved correctly. But once I change the web browser language settings to another preferred language, and refresh the page, I found that the message is still for the previous locale, and not refreshed to the locale (language/country) that's newly set in web browser.
Am I supposed to do more thing to get the 'locale' work by using the adf view object bind variable?

Hi,
after changing the locale, can you try a re-direct of the page to see if this changes the locale. In ADF, the locale is set by the HTTP request handler in the ADF lifecycle ensuring that the locale is passed to the middle tier. So the expected change is to come from the view layer (which is why I think you need a redirect). Another option to check is to access the HttpRequestObject from the FacesContext --> External Application to check the request locale

Got an error while creating bind variables using sql database.

iam going to use sql database for ADF-BC .
i created the bind variable and apply the bind position for the corresponding variable in the view object editor.when i click test it shows me "query is valid". when i tried to run that it gives me two errors.
1) sql error during statement preparation.(ie) select empid ,empname......from the emptable where empid like :'emp' and
2) [Microsoft][SQl server 2000 driver for jDBC] invalid parameter bindings
i need help to know the solution for this...(or) is there any other way to create bind variable ......

The 3 binding styles supported by JDev:
Oracle Named - ie. SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = :vEmp (note colon and variable name)
Oracle Positional - ie SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = :1 (note colon)
JDBC Positional - ie SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = ?
Literally this query is sent to the database to execute, then the bind variables values are applied as a separate database operation. If SQL Server doesn't suport any of these binding styles, it's not going to work. As Chris Noonan suggests, try the JDBC Positional style though as you're using a JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server and it should support that style (the others are Oracle styles), and make sure you've switched the binding style on the VO query page to "JDBC Positional" too.
You must also on the VO bind variable page define your bind variables.

Warning: No indices selected for this bind variable ??

I have a view object that is read-only and performs a JDBC connection to SQL 2000 server to get the contents of a view in the database. I need to add a couple of bind variables that I can use for searching 'ExecuteWithParams' in my JSF.
When I click 'Add' to add a bind variable, I get the subject warning. My query has the selected attributes with 'AS Emp_No' for instance. If I want to add to the where clause 'AND EMP_NO = :EmpIdVar' as I would do in the Oracle way, how can I do it in the JDBC Positional way and avoid the warning above?

Bug 6041448 details a problem with setting the index positions of a named bind variable when the View Object's binding style is "Oracle Positional" or "JDBC Positional".
The workaround involves not using named bind variables, and just using the ? bind variable indicators in the query without formally defining the named bind variables.
You could adopt a technique like the one described in section "10.5.2 How to Work with Named View Object Bind Variables" of the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers on the ADF Learning Center (at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html) as an alternative to using ExecuteWithParams [whose use required named bind parameters]. Instead, you would write a custom method on your view object that accepts your two parameters, then inside this method it would set the correct posititional parameters using setWhereClauseParam().
Once you've added the custom method to the view object's client interface, then you can drop the custom method from the data control palette just like the ExecuteWithParams and use it in basically the same ways.
