The dependencies meet at mariadb, which I can not remove because of akonadi.
Is it possible to enforce removal and the akonadi package detects aur/mysql as alternative?
The connector and workbench might just need recompilation

  • [SOLVED]Script to replace compiz with metacity and the other way round

Hi. I would like You guys to help me. I don't want to use fusion-icon (many complex reasons I wouldn't like to state here, just please take it for granted) and I'd like to bind a key combination for a command which would let me replace compiz with metacity and the other way round. So I think I need a script.
    What I'd need:
    detect if compiz is running
    yes -> metacity --replace
    no -> compiz --loose-binding --replace
    Can You help?
Last edited by warnec (2010-06-23 19:38:46)

The scripts by mojlac024 replaces compiz by metacity when compiz is running, but when metacity is running it doesn't bring compiz back.
    How to incorporate that test:
    dbus-send --print-reply --type=method_call --dest=org.freedesktop.compiz /org/freedesktop/compiz/dbus/screen0 org.freedesktop.compiz.list | wc -l
    into the script?
    PS.:
When compiz is running, it prints 1. But when compiz is not running, it prints:
Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.compiz was not provided by any .service files
    0
So a simple logical test of "is this 0 or not?" won't work, I'm afraid.

  • Satellite C850 - boot from DVD issue - want to replace Win8 with Win7U

Got a new C850-1JZ yesterday and am trying to replace pre-installed Win 8 with Windows 7. I did create the recovery media (3 DVDs).
The laptop is driving me "insane" as it seems to block any attempt to boot anything else other than Win8 on the preinstalled hdd.
1.) Inserted Win 7 Ultimate DVD and tried to boot, would not boot from disk.
2.) Loaded advanced boot menu and tried to boot from ODD, would not boot from disk it. (Options are LAN, USB, HDD, and ODD (assuming this is optical disk drive)
3.) Changed regular bios settings boot priority to boot from ODD first, then HDD, would not boot from disk.
4.) Learned there is a "security boot protection" mechanism enabled by default in the bios. Turned it off. Machine starts loading from ODD and says "Windows is loading files" then hangs. This is a MS original Win7 Ultimate disk from the Microsoft store, no scratches. Makes no sense. We actually have 2 of them, so I tried the other, same result.
5.) Thought screw that, let's just put the hard drive from the other computer (T61) in here then and do clean new setup another time. Replaced hdd with other sata hdd that has Win 7 ultimate installed and system configured. When booting from hdd, it says "No OS" found and reboots. When booting from ODD, it starts with windows is loading files again and then freezes.
What kind of other extra protection/virus blocker/stupid setting am I missing here? This is puzzling me. Thanks.

*Thanks as***, that solves the problem.*
After 10 days Toshiba Support in Germany came back with the same answer.
Basically it seems the UEFI Firmware has some reference to Win 8 or the original OS and key and boat loader that is checks, and you cannot load anything else until you disable it by:
    1) In the BIOS, disable "secure boot" mode
    2) In the BIOS advanced settings, switch from UEFI to CMS mode.
Then you should be able to install anything as the new OS.
Also, if you want to write down your product key / serial number , since it is not printed anywhere (e.g. no sticker on the bottom of the laptop) [Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit|http://belarc.com/free_download.html] is a good tool to retrieve this from the registry and write it down.
As far as I know it's "glued" to this particular hardware, so not portable, but it might be a good idea to write it down in case you lose the system recovery disk but would want to re-install it with the original serial number.

  • Solved flicker problem with newer fglrx drivers

This has been annoying me since the move from 8.29 to 8.30: I have an integrated Xpress 200 on my laptop, and newer proprietary drivers caused the screen to flicker. This has caused me to stick with the older drivers, which restricted upgrades to X.org and the kernel. I was misled by some posts on the Internet to believe that this was the result of using custom modelines.
I have finally solved the problem yesterday. I am posting my findings in case anyone else has been suffering from the same behaviour.
The newer drivers come with an ACPI script, installed under /etc/acpi. The script is invoked every minute and inspects the current power status (i.e., A/C or battery). It then invokes
    aticonfig --set-powermode=[MODE]
to adjust the driver to the new settings. Each time this command is executed, it causes the screen to flicker.
Obviously, there is no need to run the script if the power mode has not changed since the last call. I have therefore modified the script to first check the current driver power mode, and execute the mode command only if a new setting is required.
    I hope this helps someone.

I need my hand held a bit here...
this seems to be the problem I'm having, ie the ac/battery event being called too frequently, but have no idea how to edit the script. I'm on an asus w3n, will it help to replace apci with asus-laptop and apcid daemon...or just add those and leave acpi daemon?
    apologies for my numbnut newbie-ness.

  • Replace "+%5Cn" with "%0D%0A"

Hi, i need to replace "+%5Cn" with "%0D%0A" in a encoded message. I used replaceAll() function but it return me this runtine exception "java.util.regex.PatternSyntaxException: Dangling meta character '+' near index 0+%5Cn". The same thing happen when i try to replace "\" with "\\" in a message. Can anyone advice me how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify a bit, the first replacement would be done like this:  message = message.replaceAll("\\+%5Cn", "%0D%0A");and the second like this:  message = message.replaceAll("\\\\", "\\\\");I know that one looks bizarre, but it's because both the Java compiler and the Pattern class will process the first argument, and both use the backslash as an escape character.

  • Replace WRT54 with WRT600N, xp-vista problem

In the wired network are: XP (host) 1Vista 32 and 1 Vista 64.
With WRT54GS everything worked fine. I replaced WRT54GS with WRT600N. The VISTA32 and XP are working finne. The VISTA 64 does not see the router as computer anymore and also does not see the XP computer. The XP can not access the VISTA64.
    Any ideas?

Problem solved, The security settings in Norton detected that the router did change and prohibited the see and access.
BTW, if you have similar problems you can call up the drive attached to the router by entering \\WRT600N and see it, than map it. You mostlikely will have to enter the access user and password (default admin and  admin if not changed)
    Everything works fine now.

  • Why Arch Linux official repository provide MariaDB instead of MySQL?

First, I want to say I'm not an expert in MySQL or any other RDBMS. I just started to learn mysql a month ago. So didn't know exactly what is the practical difference between MariaDB and MySQL. Both are looks the same (except for the prompt as far as I know). But oracle MySQL is still the majority RDBMS that is being used in comparision with MariaDB. Since I just started to learn, I wanna use the most used. So I choose MySQL.
My curiosity is why Arch choose MariaDB? Is MySQL going against "The Arch Way" or something like that? I read somewhere when googling that one of the reason why MariaDB is created is because Oracle purchased Sun Microsystems. Or maybe there're some bug issues or something if using MySQL on Arch Linux?

Search back through the arch news items.  We switched over a fews ago I think.

  • Replace comma with dot

    Dear all,
I'm getteing mad with the following issue and need your help.
I'm working at a PDF-Form including a table. The Values in this table create a datamatrix. This works fine for now.
Here is my issue: The values in the table are numbers like 12.2 but also 12 or 9 but maximum two digits in front of the "."(dot). Seperation character should be a "." In Germany there is the ","(comma) instead of the "." at the number block.
For better usability it would be nice having a java script that replaces onBlur all "," with a ".". So I don't have to change the keyboard language to English.
Is this possible and if yes, how?
I am an absolutely noob on javascript, so please be patient and do not expect any specific knowledge.
What I tried (menue is translatet from the German version, I don't know if it is correct:
    onBlur.replace(",", ".");
I put this in (right click on form) -> properties ->action ->
    add action: on mouse exit
    choose action: run JavaScript
    click on "add"
Then I copied the terminus from the top in the opening window. Ready (at least this was my thought...)
It dit not work, now I nedd your help.
Thank you for your hints, your help and your time.
Adobe Acrobat XI (German) on Windows 7 64bit (also german).

    ***************SOLVED**********************
The solution was much easier than expected:
when you open "properties" by right clicking on the form, go to "validation" NOT "action" (make sure you are in the form editing mode: "tools" -> "forms" -> "edit")
then chose "run user defined script" and click on "edit"
    type in the following line:
    event.value = event.value.replace(/\,/g, ".");
    click "OK" and then "Close"
Then you are done. Now, when you leave the form field Acrobat checks if there is a comma and replaces it with a dot.
For me this was the easiest way to make it work.
    ***************SOLVED**********************
    Im Editorfenster folgende Zeile eingeben:
    event.value = event.value.replace(/\,/g, ".");
Über "OK" und "Schließen" zurück zu den Eigenschaften
Das war's. Nun ersetzt Acrobat im Formularfeld jedes Komma durch einen Punkt.

I've checked the PKGBUILD in /var/cache/aura/pkgbuilds and everything looks fine....
why is the input/output getting redirected and how do I solve this issue??
It seems to me that there are some new options which aren't in the previously configured pkgconfig, if this is the case how do I select the new options?
Of course I can build linux-lqx manually as I have done initially however, I would like to use Aura as it makes life much easier :-)
    Thanks.

Using "makepkg" works no problem like I explained previously.... but that means manual download of the tar.gz file then compile and install.
I was really hoping for Aura to automate things to make life "sightly easier".
Aura is pretty good with everything else, including install/upgrade but just getting this to work.... if not then fine no worries but would be nice if it did work :-)

  • [SOLVED] openbox margins with dual monitors

    Hi community,
I have stumbled to a nasty problem on my first incursion to dual monitors in openbox.
I'm using xrandr with this command (which works just fine BTW):
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --primary --output VGA-0 --mode 1280x1024_60.00 --gamma 1.0:1.4:0.85 --right-of LVDS
and have set a Virtual screen in xorg.conf of 2560 x 1024 pixels.
But, my laptop monitor only handles 1280x800, while my external LCD monitor has 1280x1024, so there is a virtual area under my laptop screen which i'm not using, but i dont really care about that.
The problem is that when I'm setting screen margins, so that maximized windows will respect the panels in the bottom (tint2), in rc.xml (or by obconf) the margins are applied to the virtual screen and only are practical on the external monitor wich has more pixel height.
I'm really missing some kind of per monitor margin settings in openbox, maybe there is and i haven't found it? It makes me wonder because openbox can maximize windows to a single monitor, even if the whole layout it's treated like a virtual screen, so it has some way of distinguishing between them.
I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

TL;DR - I'm not aware of any acceptable solution at the moment.
Basically, what you're having problems with, is the "dead area." It can really be quite a pain in the butt if window managers or other screen aware applications don't anticipate it properly. To my knowledge, Openbox doesn't support margins on a monitor-by-monitor basis. In reality, you shouldn't need to be setting margins anyway. Tint2 should be reporting itself as a taskbar, and Openbox should be respecting that.
I have dead area too, with multiple monitors, and Openbox respects both of the KDE taskbars I have running (one on each monitor). (I use KDE and simply replaced Kwin with Openbox.) This tells me that tint2 should be able to cooperate with Openbox. I remember trying tint2 a while ago, and didn't fine it adequate in a dual monitor environment (it was probably a year ago or so). tint2 would need to be setting the _NET_WM_STRUT_PARTIAL hint, and I'm not sure if it is (or if it's doing it properly). See http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spe … #id2507618
Also, I do know that the developer for Openbox recently got a dual monitor setup, and she's been adding additional support for dual monitors a little at a time. Hopefully with 3.5, there will be a lot more support. (Margin support for multiple monitors would be great, because it could be a good utility knife for applications that don't care about multi-monitors setups and don't set the proper hints.)
If you're capable of modifying tint2, my course of action would be to try something that works (like the KDE taskbars) and record the hints being set there. Then compare them with tint2 and try to mirror KDE's setup. (If you're a programming lacking experience with X and related nonsense, I'd be more than willing to offer what guidance I have.)
Also, I developed a panel myself (and got pretty far along) using the PyGTK toolkit... But I can't remember if I solved this problem or not. I'll try to check it out and get back to you. (I got as far as implementing a widget system that includes a task list, system tray, clock, menus... It just isn't polished very well. My original intention was for it to be a more robust PyPanel with dual monitor support.)

  • [unoconv] Help needed with AUR pkg

    Hi all,
i'm the current maintainer of AUR package unoconv.
After a proper request to make openoffice dependency optional and let users choose between (libre/open)office, i'm posting here looking for help debugging a strange behavior.
Berserker (the user who make the request) heve already tried libreoffice in place of openoffice and have reported a success.
In my box instead (and perhaps not only) unoconv with openoffice is working as usual. Replacing it with libreoffice not. unoconv listener always fail.
    But let me explain:
basically I think the problem is here (unoconv main script, line ~695, listener class):
    class Listener:
    def __init__(self):
    info(1, "Start listener on %s:%s" % (op.server, op.port))
    try:
subprocess.call([oobin, "-headless", "-invisible", "-nocrashreport", "-nodefault", "-nologo", "-nofirststartwizard", "-norestore", "-accept=%s" % op.connection])
    except Exception, e:
    error("Launch of %s failed.\n%s" % (oobin, e))
    else:
    die(253, "Existing listener found, aborting.")
    executing a classic
    unoconv -vvvl
the script ALWAYS die with a WRONGLY asserting of an existing listener found.
executing same code lines in a python2 console everything works!!
executing in a terminal what the subprocess.call execute:
soffice -headless -invisible -nocrashreport -nodefault -nologo -nofirststartwizard -norestore -accept="socket,host=localhost,port=2002;urp;StarOffice.ComponentContext"
    again libreoffice behaves normally
I would to repeat and emphasize three things:
Berserker have reported as fully working (with ooo-thumbnailer-unofficial 0.4.1-2 chain) package with LibreOffice.
With OpenOffice, in my box, unoconv is working. It fails ONLY with LibreOffice.
Only unoconv fails. Libreoffice seems to be fully working. Unoconv code to, executed outside its scripts, seems to be working.
Any python guru in the house?
    Last edited by max.bra (2011-03-16 07:45:26)

Try echoing the command line and comparing:
args = [oobin, "-headless", "-invisible", "-nocrashreport", "-nodefault", "-nologo", "-nofirststartwizard", "-norestore", "-accept=%s" % op.connection]
    print ' '.join(args)
    subprocess.call(args)
I personally couldn't get unoconv to work with libreoffice or openoffice.  Maybe I'm just doing something wrong though.
