[SOLVED] rxvt-unicode font color too dark

URxvt*foreground: rgba:aaaa/aaaa/aaaa/7777
I think this is your font color. Have you tried changing it?
XTerm*foreground: White
This one is for xterm so no wonder it doesn't do anything in urxvt.
Edit: Setting
urxvt.foreground: #aaaaaa
does produce dark font, '#ffffff' gets me bright white, as expected.

  • [SOLVED] Certain emacs colors too dark

    For example, the blue gdb prompt in the gud buffer is too dark against a black background. Is there any way to change this? I believe this is an emacs issue and not a terminal issue, since changing terminal colors color0-color15 doesn't affect that particular text.

    I figured this out: Just run
    M-x describe-face
    with the cursor over the font in question. Then one can select to customize the face in the help buffer that appears. Awesome!

  • [SOLVED] rxvt-unicode 9.17 + tmux = visual artifacts on resize

    Getting visual artifacts with the latest urxvt update.
    Thinking possibly an upstream issue, but would like confirmation first.
    Using dwm 6.0 with resizehints = False, if that matters.
    Can anyone reproduce and/or recommend a fix?
    Reproduce:
    - Run tmux in rxvt-unicode 9.17-1
    - Fill terminal with text, e.g. `ls -la`
    - Resize window
    Expected:
    Actual:
    Observation:
    If affected window is placed behind another window (e.g. by changing tags in dwm, or by dragging another window over it), the artifacts disappear.
    Edit: Solved
    Temp fix:
    Downgrading to rxvt-unicode 9.16.

    I'm also encountering this issue after upgrading rxvt-unicode to 9.17. I'm using xmonad w/ an accordion layout so the instance of urxvt in which tmux is running is resized on focus resulting in the tmux status line not being removed from the position it was at prior to the resize. I can reproduce the problem while enlarging a floating urxvt+tmux window as well.
    The problem doesn't exist after downgrading to rxvt-unicode 9.16.

  • Portege R500-10J: Not possible to watch movies - display colors too dark

    Hi!
    I've recently bought a Portege R500-10J and have a pretty bad problem - I can't watch any movies here (DVD, or *.avi, or any others). Any media can't be seen on the display. Its too dark and some colors are reflected.
    I have no problems with any office applications, or internet browsing, colors are great for 12.1 inch display, but using any media applications is nearly impossible.
    Changing any settings doesn't help. Colors are extremely poor. I didn't install anything but that came with the notebook first.
    Anyone knows - is this a hardware problem (videocard), or software (codecs, drivers, smth else), or it is a normal condition?
    Hope it can be fixed. This notebook supposed to be used for watching films while travelling...

    To be honest it is not easy to understand your problem. I presume you will use battery power supply while traveling. In this case power saver tool will probably switch to power saver mode. In this case the display brightness will be set to lower level.
    You can set it to highest level using FN+F7 key combination. Be also sure the display is in the right direction (90 degrees to your eyes).

  • Font color against dark font backgrounds changing to white in Word 2010

    Hello.  I am a long-time Word and VBA user and have been experiencing a problem with Word 2010 wherein font colors against a dark font background color always appear, and print, as if they had been set to white.  By contrast, Word 2007 would retain
    whatever font color was set for each character (whether through the standard user interface or VBA).  Has anyone else run into this problem?  Is there a fix for it?  Thanks.

    Thanks for your response, Eugene.
    It's x86.
    I actually had set up an image of a comparison of Word 2007 vs. Word 2010, but when I've tried to include it here, a message comes up that says "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account."
    I had previously been warned that I needed to provide a phone message to "verify" my account.  I don't like giving out my phone number when it's not relevant to what I'm doing.  I'll explore to see if there are other options where I don't have
    to provide private information in order to be able to post images in my messages in this forum.  (I'm not up to any harm here!)  I do think the image that I set up would be very helpful to share; it shows clearly the difference in how Word 2007 vs.
    Word 2010 treat font/text color against dark font/text backgrounds.

  • [SOLVED] rxvt-unicode: disable iso 14755

    Hi,
    I want to disable all the urxvt functionalities associated with the ctrl+shift keys. Is there a way to do this at runtime ?
    The PKGBUILD seems to have the "disable-frills" flag. Then the only thing related to ctrl+shift should be iso 14755.
    I was using rxvt-unicode-256color from AUR before and this was not happening.
    Last edited by X-dark (2011-01-03 16:15:19)

    either compile with --disable-iso14755 or try URxvt* iso14755: False  and URxvt* iso14755_52: False

  • [SOLVED] rxvt-unicode not switching to fullscreen

    Hi there.
    I just installed rxvt-unicode and wanted to activate the fullscreen toggle.
    I read on the ArchWiki that I needed the urxvt-fullscreen package from the AUR:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Rx … Fullscreen

    but all other sources said .Xdefaults so I don't think I'm doing anything wrong here),

  • [SOLVED] My firefox fonts are too blurry / smooth

    Hello, Im a mint user so far but I really want to move to Arch but my fight versus Fonts are not good:
    Fonts 3 - Me 1
    No luck
    I readed the wiki enough times but I'm not a font expert, but I tried a lot of stuff.
    So far:
    I installed win7 fonts from AUR, ttf-mac (for lucida grande), and obviously dejavu and liberation.
    The fonts are good, but I can't render them properly.
    This is my .fonts.conf:
    <?xml version='1.0'?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
    <fontconfig>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="rgba">
    <const>none</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="hinting">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle">
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="antialias">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    </fontconfig>
    I have dualhead (24"+24" (but 16:10 / 16:9), 3840+1200) with twinview.
    I dont know what dpi I have ("xdpyinfo | grep dot" says 93x94 but.. I have two monitors and xorg treats it like a big one).
    About my fonts.conf, I tried the lcddefault (no changes), I can't use any rgba option (I got a weird double color / shadow behaviour).
    In short, that is the conf that have the best results.
    Problems: I saw that the fonts color are always slightly light and blurry.
    Example:
    Arch blurry (the color problem is not noticed with blue)
    http://i.imgur.com/XSNT4.png
    Ubuntu crisp:
    http://i.imgur.com/pnhWE.png
    I admit that are not that bad, but is there
    With bigger fonts, the problem is more noticiable but I have not found a clear example.
    I looked all mint configurations, tried to imitate it, but the fonts still renders different. (same .ttf)
    Ideas? Thanks.
    Last edited by Foxandxss (2012-03-19 22:10:48)

    I changed the images for links
    And yes, near identical.
    I digged deeper. Without ".fonts.conf" and using gnome 3 with slight hint and antialiasing to "rgba", the result is good enough (I don't know where gnome-tweak-tool saves the config).
    Seems like gnome activates subpixel (rgb) and uses a lcddefault. I tried subpixel in the past but was kinda "missplaced" so the effect was really bad.
    So, activating rgb subpixel and using lcddefault, solves the problem, well, at least same result as ubuntu / mint
    So, I will mark this as solved, and I hope it helps who comes after

  • [SOLVED] Rxvt-unicode fails to paste PRIMARY selection owned by Vim

    Urxvt almost always work with the X PRIMARY selection. i.e., if I select some
    text in Firefox or other applications, I will be able to paste it in urxvt.
    But Vim seems to be an exception. Steps to reproduce:
      1. Select some text ("foo") in Vim, either using the mouse or in visual mode.
         Leave the Vim window open.
      2. In another urxvt window, press Shift-Insert, _nothing_ is pasted.
         Middle mouse click has the same effect as Shift-Insert in urxvt.
      3. Issue the command `xsel -po`, and the text "foo" is printed. This means
         the text is indeed what the X PRIMARY selection holds (or points to).
      4. The text "foo" is also pasted in Firefox by middle mouse click.
         The text "foo" is also pasted in xterm by either middle mouse click or
         Shift-Insert.
      5.1. If you do `xsel -po | xsel -pi`, urxvt will behave like everyone else.
      5.2. Without doing 5.1, quit Vim (:q). After that, "foo" will be pasted in
           urxvt by Shift-Insert.
           What Vim does on quit is documented in its help (:h x11-cut-buffer):
    Vim wrote:
    There are, by default, 8 cut-buffers: CUT_BUFFER0 to CUT_BUFFER7.  Vim only
    uses CUT_BUFFER0, which is the one that xterm uses by default.
    Whenever Vim is about to become unavailable (either via exiting or becoming
    suspended), and thus unable to respond to another application's selection
    request, it writes the contents of any owned selection to CUT_BUFFER0.  If the
    "+ CLIPBOARD selection is owned by Vim, then this is written in preference,
    otherwise if the "* PRIMARY selection is owned by Vim, then that is written.
    My guesses are:
      * Urxvt somehow requires the cut buffer (CUT_BUFFER0) to sync with the
        PRIMARY selection, otherwise it will fail to request the PRIMARY selection.
      * The reason why text selected from applications other than Vim can be pasted
        just fine in urxvt is probably that they always sync the cut buffer with the
        PRIMARY selection.
    I may be wrong, so please do comment.
    If my conclusion proves to be right, I will file a bug report to rxvt-unicode.
    Edit: This issue is fixed in rxvt-unicode 9.12.

    uses CUT_BUFFER0, which is the one that xterm uses by default.
    Hi lolilolicon,
    I cannot reproduce the errors from step 2. My system has the following packages:
    gvim 7.3.206-1
    vim-runtime 7.3.206-1
    rxvt-unicode 9.12-1
    To be fair, rxvt-unicode was upgraded to 9.12 recently (I think it was sometime last week), and I also recall vim's visual mode selections NOT being paste-able into a separate urxvt window. But I guess the 9.12 update fixed things. (There are a couple regression fixes with the words "selection" to describe them @ http://cvs.schmorp.de/rxvt-unicode/Changes .) I tested both gvim and regular console vim (visual mode) and it all worked. I also double-checked with `xsel -po`.

  • [SOLVED] rxvt-unicode and Powerline patched fonts

    Hey all,
    I'm trying to make my zsh prompt look like this - https://gist.github.com/3712874
    As it says, it requires patched font. I downloaded two of them - Inconsolata-dz for Powerline and Menlo for Powerline.
    If in .Xresources I put Menlo as my font of choice, the prompt looks like in linked page - all characters are displayed properly.
    If, however, I put Inconsolata as my font of coice, charcters will fail to show up and those rectangles will be shown. (as if those characters do not exist in that font)
    Important thing to note is that BOTH fonts work fine in ViM (with Powerline plugin) - it shows characters which are displayed as rectangles in zsh prompt.
    Any ideas?

    ! Font
    !URxvt*font: xft:Inconsolata-dz for Powerline:size=10
    URxvt*font: xft:Menlo for Powerline:regular:size=10
    i also tried xft:Inconsolata-dz for Powerline:Medium:size=10 - didn't work. if i change the font size, it is changed in the terminal too, so unless terminal can interpret size even though i didn't get the font right, i don't think that's it.
    i found inconsolata(non dz) for powerline, will try that one now
    edit: non dz version doesn't work, same thing as with dz

  • [SOLVED] Gnome & Firefox: Fonts are too small

    Hi,
    I am really used to using firefox in Windows XP where fonts are readable out-of-the-box. By this I mean I didn't have to fiddle with firefox when I installed it, the fonts looked great.
    Now that I'm using Gnome, I see that firefox's fonts are really too small. The glyphs are smashed together too. How can I get the fonts to look decent in firefox? I'm not sure if this is an OS-level setting or a firefox-level setting.

    If you have an LCD monitor, try this:
    Copy & paste the code below into a file called
    .fonts.conf
    [NOTE: It's a hidden file ! ]
    and save it in your home directory. Log out & in again and fire up The Fox !

  • Appearance colors - too dark

    I run this on a Mac and now windows 8, and the windows version the bezier curve handles are a dark blue and changing the background does not help me able to see them.
    Why is it dark blue? I would like to change them to white or a lighter color, the time code and other numbers in the effects window are a lighter blue.
    where do I change this to white?
    not a problem on the mac version.

    Hi,
    The latest version of Premiere Pro has the changed blue interface. It seems that you have updated to the latest version only on the Windows computer. (Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 to be exact)
    Unfortunately, there is no way to change the blue color.
    And on the Mac, you might be running an older version (Premiere Pro CC 2014.0.1 in my opinion, if you are on PP CC 2014)
    Thanks!
    Rameez
