[SOLVED] Sound card not recognized

I tried following the ALSA setup guide on the Wiki to get my sound working but I don't think Arch recognizes my sound card.  I found out from lshwd that the module is snd-intel8x0 so I modprobed that and snd-pcm-oss, changed the values in alsamixer, added myself to the audio group, installed alsa-utils, alsa-lib and alsa-oss and restarted everything but I still have no sound.  Here's some output:
lsmod | grep '^snd'
snd_intel8x0 28700 1
snd_ac97_codec 95780 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_pcm_oss 38688 0
snd_pcm 69124 3 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd_seq_device 6796 0
snd_mixer_oss 14592 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 19076 1 snd_pcm
snd 44516 9 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_device,snd_mixer_oss,snd_timer
snd_page_alloc 7816 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
ls -l /dev/snd

crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 33 2007-07-12 13:02 timer
The wiki says that if you have controlC0 and pcmC0D0p in that output then the modules have been loaded properly and they are both there so I'm not sure where to go from here.  Your help would be appreciated.

you need to start alsa if you haven't already done so... /etc/alsa start
prolly better to run alsacoconf if you still have problems

  • [SOLVED] Sound Card not recognized on Macbook (5,1)

    Hello,
I had no problems installing Archlinux on my Macbook (5,1).  In fact, the first time I followed the Wiki's instructions for installing ALSA, I could play sounds just fine.  However, ever since my first restart, the ALSA daemon complains that I have no sound cards installed.  lspci shows that it sees an audio device, but /sys/modules/snd no longer exists.  I do not know much about useful diagnostic information for this situation, so please let me know what else could be of use.
    Thank you,
    Rob

I had forgotten that I installed OSS, which caused conflicts with a previously installed copy of ALSA.  Once I removed OSS completely, rebooted, and went through the ALSA setup again, I had fully working sound.  This problem can be marked as solved.

  • GeForce4 TI Video Card Not Recognized Anymore?

For about almost a year, the fan on the GeForce4 TI video card would occasionally make a grinding noise, although it has always been easily fixed by lightly sticking a finger on the fan to stop it for a second and it would go back to normal.
However, about a month ago this little fix stopped working. The grinding noise was unbearable. After searching the Internet for a few minutes, I found out that I wasn't the only one suffering from this problem, and some even offered tips on how to replace the fan.
I followed the steps very carefully and made sure the card was not harmed. After installing the new fan, which was very easy, I stuck it back into the Power Mac and boot it up. However the monitor didn't find a signal.
I was glad that I installed Remote Desktop on the Power Mac so I was able to connect to it and see what's going on. I opened Apple System Profiler and noticed that the computer isn't properly recognizing the graphics card anymore! Instead of the very detailed information I'm used to seeing, this is what I saw below:
    pci10de,a:
    Type: VGA-Compatible Controller
    Bus: AGP
    Slot: SLOT-1
    Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x252
    Revision ID: 0x00a3
I have no clue what this means as it seems like the computer still recognizes A video card. Also this also gave me the impression that the Power Mac is missing the drivers, but that's impossible as I haven't touched the software on the hard drive and nVidia drivers are part of OS X.
If the card is broken then fine, I'll take my losses and buy a new one as I would hate to just throw the computer away since it still more than fulfill my needs. But I just hope the AGP slot isn't broken.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Just for clarification:
You have two systems based on the same MS-7008 mainboard, correct? Both use the same BIOS Version?
In one system, the card is functioning, running in AGP 3.0 Mode x8 and in the other, same mainboard model, what are the symptoms of "video card not recognized" besides the AGP 2.0 Mode x4 limitation?
I mean, if you can see the BIOS Setup, the card is putting something out on the screen, right?

  • Audio / Sound Card not working after Soundblaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg

Ok, first - confess - it was stupid. I installed the Soundblaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg package, which i downloaded from the internet, to make the harman Kardon Soundsticks (USB-Version) working, as nothing happened when plugging them in.
First, it ruined the mouse working after reboot and also disabled the internal sound card, not even as device available anymore. I fixed the mouse problem by installing IOUSBFamily-281.4.0-log(PPC).dmg
How can I make the sound card be available and working again ? I also updated to 10.4.11. Did not help ! Can you ? Thanks !

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, look in system preferences, accounts, and for your login account look at login items to see if there is a Soundblaster USB module that is loaded when you reboot your system. Delete it if there is one.
If you updated to 10.4.11 by software update, download the combo update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html . The combo update is a complete update for all updates to 10.4, and installing the combo sometimes fixes odd things.

  • [SOLVED]Sound Card No longer detected after pulseadio install

I recently installed pulseaudio and after the install my /var/lib/alsa/asound.state file was deleted or moved, anyhow now neither pulseaudio or alsa recognize my sound card. Is there a way to regenerate the original asound.state file ? i've already tried alsactl store but alsa apprently can't find my sound card anymore.
SOLVED: apparently the modules for the sound card were unloaded I don't know what caused it but it was sure annoying
    SOLUTION:
    modprobe snd-hda-intel ; modprobe snd-pcm-oss ; modprobe snd-mixer-oss ; modprobe snd-seq-ossa
Of course the modules you load will depend on your particular system, I happen to be using the Acer Aspire One netbook so I had an intel hda audio card
    Acer Aspire One
    120Gb HDD
    1024mb ram
    Intel N720 1.6ghz

yes i assumed it would be necessary for integration, am i to understand this was the root of the problem ?
ok so i was reading a gentoo forums post and decided to follow some of the fact finding there and came to some good information.
sound card is not found in /proc/asound/cards
sound card isn't in /dev/ anywhere
so it seems like it just up and disappeared

  • [SOLVED] Sound (snd_hda_intel) not working after resume from suspend

Using the latest kernel 2.6.30.4, On HP2133, whenever I get back from resume, sound is not working.
Running the following brings back the sound, but that is obviously a hack:
    fuser -k /dev/snd/*
    rmmod snd_hda_intel
    modprobe snd_hda_intel
    /etc/rc.d/alsa start
    I have on my /etc/modprobe/50-sound.conf:
    options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
    Here's the exact hardware specification:
    # lspci -nnv|grep Audio
80:01.0 Audio device [0403]: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] (VIA High Definition Audio Controller) [1106:3288] (rev 10)
Any idea where to look for this?

    [SOLVED]
I downgraded to kernel 2.6.29 and the problem is gone.
Note: I also had X VT problems with 2.6.30.4 (xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call). Those were solved too by downgrading to 2.6.29.

  • Cirrus Logic sound card not working - Just a quick question (iMac 27-inch)

Hi, so as many have experienced, my sound card is not registering on my new iMac, on the Windows Vista side. I get sound out of the Mac side, just nothing from Windows.
I was wondering, would a USB sound card or sound pod solve the problem? I am not amazing with computers... But would buying one of those be a possibility?
I was looking at something like this...
    http://www.emicrophones.com/p-1230-andrea-pure-audio-usb-sa-full-duplex-usb-soun d-pod.aspx
If anyone who knows what they're talking about could give me some input on this, it would be greatly appreciated. I do a lot of video editing on the Windows side, so having no sound would be an extreme burden.

Hi - I had this problem when I installed WIndows Vista (32 bit) on my i5 iMac. I believe I resolved the problems by finding the drivers on the OSX install disk. What I am struggling with is updating the video drivers - but that is another story...

  • Sound Card not compatible with WIN 7

I have a Dell 8200 Dimension Desktop (vintage 2002)?that I?ve just upgraded from XP Pro to Win 7. My Turtle Beach sound card no longer works since it is not compatible with Win 7. When I tried to install a non-Dell sound card, I found that the two sockets were not compatible with the Dell cables. I was told that I must have a Dell card since the plugs were proprietory Dell. I was given a Dell part number (38FRH) which supposedly was the card that would work as a replacement, i.e., be compatible with Windows 7. Dell no longer stocks this card since they stop supporting their computers after they are 5 years old.
Can?anyone help me solve my problem?

Which Dell cables? To the speakers? If so, time to change the speakers then.
Also try online such as eBay. Google for "Dell 38FRH". Ignore the Windows 7 drivers links. First few I found were fakes/scams. Scroll down. On the first page there were a couple of sites that carried it.
I would rather change the sound card [get something "modern"] and speakers than continue to use proprietary stuff.
Using Win 7 on an 8 year old system? Yeeesh.

  • HP 6120n Sound won't work bought replacement sound card not sure of what to do

    HP 6120n  - Using win 7  - Sound won't work
Tried restarting and Troubleshooter and it not not solve the problem
Bought used replacement sound card (30 day warranty) but not sure of what to do to install it or even if it is necessary

    Hello @4u2bu,
I understand that the audio is not working on your HP Pavilion a6120n Desktop PC running Windows 7 and you are wondering it you should install the new audio card you purchased. I would recommend that you first try the steps set out in the HP Support document: No Sound from the Speakers or Headphones (Windows 7), which has been designed to address audio issues with computers running Windows 7.
Now if the above document does not work I would suspect a driver issue and since HP does not have audio drivers for your computer running Windows 7 I would suggest you go ahead and install the new audio card as it will have the needed drivers.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • [solved] Digital Camera not recognized in device-manager

My digital camera "Canon Powershot SX120 is" is not recognized by the devicemanager. I have read Digital Cameras.
    $ groups
    wheel storage users printadmin
The "camera"-Group isn't needed anymore and this group doesn't exist on my system.
The Powershot SX 120 has a  MTP/PTP connection mode (as the manual says). But:
    # mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6

    No raw devices found.

    Canon PowerShot SX120 IS usb:002,019
A gphoto --summary could be found here
There is no udev-rule for this camera. If i create one while copying a rule from a similar camera from /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules, and store it into /etc/udev/rules.d/69-canon.rules, the device-manager shows up. My udev-rule:
    # Canon PowerShot SX120AX (PTP/MTP mode)
    ATTR{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTR{idProduct}=="31e0", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1"
The device-manager shows me only the option to open with a file-manager. Doing so will result in an error:
The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/ do not exist.
    With my udev-rule:

Without the active udev-rule, "solid-hardware listen" produces nothing, but
    udevadm monitor
monitor will print the received events for:
UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing
    KERNEL - the kernel uevent

Don't know what to do ... is a udev-rule necessary to bring up the message from device-manger? Or is the Camera not recognized as a mtp-device (the Camera has no such settings)? How could i figure it out?
With Digikam i could import Fotos, but i would do so with gwenview. I've tried to check it out with gwenview_importer:
    $ gwenview_importer --udi '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
gwenview_importer: Missing required source folder argument.
(don't care about the different udi, i took this example from a former try) but i don't know, how to find out where the "source folder" is ...

I have solved this by making an extra udev-rule for my camera. See my adventure on forum.kde.org for details

  • Why are my PXI cards not recognized by Windows or MAX?

I have a PXI-1045 chassis connected to a PC through MXI-4.  When I turn the chassis and PC on with a PXI card in slot 2, the message "Windows could not load the installer for DAQDevice.  Contact your hardware vendor for assistance." appears, and the PXI card is not recognized (it is scene by Windows as an unidentifiable PCI Devices, though I have a DAQmx installed).
    More details:
    Windows XP
    LabVIEW 8.0 installed
    TestStand 4.0 installed
    Latest DAQmx 8.XX installed
    NI Scope installed
    NI CAN installed
MXI-4 PCI card installed in PC and recognized by Windows (as PCI-PCI bridge, and MXI-4 Device)
I identified PXI chassis 1045 in MAX and on subsequent boot up saw that MAX complained about pxisys or some other ini file (in the chassis status area of the screen) so I configured it as 'other' then put in the PXI-resorce CD and selected the ini file for PXI-1045, MAX no longer complains about pxisys and instead says the chassis is configured properly
If I have nothing but the PXI MXI-4 card installed in the PXI system and boot up the chassis then the PC, I get no errors
If I have a card in slot two (I've tried PXI-6509 Industrial Digital IO, PXI-2569 Relay Module, and PXI-5102 Digital Oscilliscope) and boot the chassis then PC, the message "Windows could not load the installer for DAQDevice.  Contact your hardware vendor for assistance." shows up when Windows boots and Windows sees a PCI Device but can't identify any drivers for it.

    Hello,
Can you post a screenshot of the problem? Are you switching on the chassis first or the PC? Please make sure that you switch ON chassis and then boot the PC. This typically happens when you have a corrupted installation.  I would suggest downloading the latest version of driver from here and re-installing it.
Please uninstall all the driver software from computer before installing the new software.

  • Windows 7 on iMac Core Duo - Graphics card not recognized

I installed Windows 7 along with Boot Camp drivers for Vista 32 bit.
But my grpahics card ATI X1600 is not recognized by Windows 7 RC.

Most likely that means that the driver is returning bad information or crashing.
Have you updated the driver from AMD's website?

  • Wifi card not recognized after reboot.

I've got a Lenovo X140e and an Intel wifi card. (Intel Corporation Wireless-N 7260) that I installed myself, since the support for the Broadcom card it came with was spotty.
If I reboot my laptop, the card won't show up with either iwconfig or even lspci. If I do a cold reboot (power down entirely and start back up), it will show up just fine.
    What gives?
    Relevant lspci output:
01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev 4b)
            Subsystem: Intel Corporation Wireless-N 7260
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 38

            Capabilities: <access denied>
            Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
            Kernel modules: iwlwifi

When the card is recognized, rfkill lists it as unblocked; when it's not recognized, it doesn't show up at all.
I've got i3 installed; for connection management I've been sort of trying different things - netctl never works but wifi-menu has been pretty reliable. I haven't installed any special power management stuff at all - I'm not really sure how to find out what was auto-installed?
