[Solved]SSH messed command prompt

Hello,
I try to describe what is my problem. [CURSOR] - is my cursor
I connect to SSH. OK
I type command. OK
I can correct beginning of command. OK
I execute command. OK
$  echo 11111111111111111111111111
$  echo 0000000000000000000000000
I go to history - first command shows OK
$  echo 0000000000000000000000000
second history command when I try correct beginning(click home button or left arrow), I simply can't, I can access only 11-th letter of command.
$  echo 11111[CURSOR]111111111111111111111
now I go back to first history command
$  echo 11111echo 000000000000000000000000[CURSOR]
command prompt stay messed, and command can be executed successfuly only if I dont touch it.
I can go to beggining, but only 11th character
$  echo 11111[CURSOR]echo 000000000000000000000000
I press once more arrow down to get "live" clear command prompt.
$  echo 11111[CURSOR]
prompt stay messed, I cant delete string, only ctrl+c helps.
I tried urxvt and xterm. Generally it will happen If I execute command which has more than 30 letters.
Thanks for help.

• SSH/Terminal/Command Prompt Question

Is there a way at school to ssh into mu computer using command prompt, copy the file i need to the desktop of the pc i am using? Is there any way to do that. I can do that GUI from a PC laptop to mac in the same house using login credinteals, but this is remote, any suggestions?

The GUI from a PC to your Mac would be TeamViewer.com
TeamViewer.com is free for personal use, and has both Mac and PC versions. The connections are secure, and TeamViewer.com includes file transfer capabilities.
For pay, you can do file transfer using LogMeIn.com. It has a free option for screen sharing, but file transfer requires a for pay option.
The ssh route. More work, but it can be effective.
With respect to ssh on the PC, you can use PuTTY, or a Cygwin.com environment (maybe others).
The fun part is configuring your home router so that port 22 is forwarded to your Mac, and getting a dynamic DNS name from No-IP.com or DynDNS.org so that you can easily.
PortForward.com has documents providing step-by-step guides on how to setup port forwarding for a huge list of routers
<http://portforward.com/>
Finally you will need to enable System Preferences -> Sharing -> Remote Login which allows ssh connections to your Mac.
Now you can use scp or sftp from a PC client to transfer files to/from your Mac. There are also PC sftp clients available for secure transfers via an ssh connection (but you still need to do all the configuration work on your home router and Mac).

• Pressing ENTER in Command Prompt to solve hanging

Hi,
Does anyone know why sometimes Java hangs, unless you press ENTER in the
Command Prompt for Windows 2K? After pressing ENTER it continues execution.
It happens with WebLogic sometimes too. It will not print anything on the
console until I press ENTER.
I'm sure lots of Java developers have experienced this weird problem.

The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.
You can download a free version of an excellent scanner- Malwarebytes here:

• [SOLVED] Bash: Append file contents to command prompt

Hi,
is there a way to append the contents of a file to the command prompt? Say I have defined an alias and I want to change it on the fly. So I'd do
$ which <my_alias>
then mark it with the mouse, and paste it to the command line. What I would like to do instead, would be:
$which <my_alias> > some_temp_file
$vim some_temp_file #edit the command the way I want it
$ # somehow get the file contents into the prompt here
I did try to google it, but to no avail and I know, I could just create a script from some_temp_file but I want the content to appear at the command prompt instead. So is there a way?
regards,
mox

Mox wrote:@progandy: Yes, this might be a step in the right direction. But what do the -i and -v options do? I did not find any documentation in the manpage. And is there a way to expand $COMMAND in the command line before running $COMMAND?
Why do you want to have the command in a prompt twice? "read -er COMMAND && eval "$COMMAND"" creates a prompt-like environment and then executes the input string. What the options do you can read in the bash-internal help, e.g.:
$ LC_ALL=C help read
-e use Readline to obtain the line in an interactive shell
-i text Use TEXT as the initial text for Readline
-p prompt output the string PROMPT without a trailing newline before
attempting to read
-r do not allow backslashes to escape any characters
Here is an example:
[progandy@pamobile ~]$ alias some_test='echo -e Hello WORLD"!"'
[progandy@pamobile ~]$ command_to_edit="some_test"
[progandy@pamobile ~]$ read -erp "Edit and execute: " -i "$(command -v $command_to_edit)" COMMAND
Edit and execute: echo -e Hello WORLD"\t!"
[progandy@pamobile ~]$ ####### in the line above you edit the command and bring it in the final form with all necessary paramters.
[progandy@pamobile ~]$ echo -E " *~* Now running: $COMMAND"
*~* Now running: echo -e Hello WORLD"\t!"
[progandy@pamobile ~]$ eval "$COMMAND"
Hello WORLD !
[progandy@pamobile ~]$

• Running a GUI application without holding command prompt

Hi there ,
I have developed a GUI application using Swing. After compiling the same successfully , when I run the same , presently , I am running it like ,
c:\> java xxx
where c:\ is the general command prompt on a Windows machine where I can type in my commands like javac or java and xxx is the class file name . Now till I complete using my GUI application and exit from the same , the command prompt will also be there ( and probably displaying the output of my System.out.println ) . So , two sessions are running , one is just the command prompt and another is the actual GUI application.
How can I avoide this ? e.g. when I type command "notepad" and press enter , notepad is started and the command prompt returns after starting notepad i.e. the notepad and the command prompt are not related now , I can close the command intrepreter and still notepad is running . What should I do to create such a Java GUI application ? Please advice .

If I understand you correctly this is something that happens in linux also. And I believe that you can solve this by creating to shortcut to this program.
And the shortcut or link to application will be the command line that you use to run the Java Application.
i.e.
java c:\javadir\subjavadir\application.class
And I believe that this will allow it to run without the command prompt. Just showing the GUI and no additional command prompt window. Freeing the command prompt is something that I don't know how to do in either OS.
I use the Link To Application method because I ultimately don't need to have multiple windows for one application. Even though it is nice to be able to kill the Application by destroying the command-prompt session (in case your app causes lock-ups during testing).
Post your results . . . I'm not even sure that I'm being clear at all with my explanation to your question.

Hello,
Try to remove and recreate your package and scenario, I had the same issue and solved doing it.
It seems for me that the package cannot update its contents, for example, if you change something in your interface, you must recreate your package and scenario to update the changes.
What ODI version do you use? If you use an old version, try to update to ODI 10.1.3.5

Write your own Thread, to do this:
public class KeyThread extends Thread {
public void run {
while(true) {
int i = System.in.read();
if(i == 123) {
break; // to stop the thread
// in your main:
Thread keyThread = new KeyThread();
keyThread.start(); // calls run() of the thread

• Having trouble finding command prompt on AIX machine

I've successfully set up the server stats monitor to collect stats from iostat, vmstat etc. on a solaris box, but I'm having trouble getting the same information from an AIX machine using ssh.
-- I'm able to plink and login successfully to the aix machine
-- I've added the rsa2 key fingerprint to the registry of the windows machine where eload is installed.
Here's the top of the error message:
"Monitor configuration failure alert: monitor id=<ip address>:ds_ConsoleEngine_<ip address>_null_4.16 alert=<ip address>:ds_ConsoleEngine_<ip address>_null_4.16
(message id=console.configFailureAlert): Error returning value: host key fingerprint is....
<snip>
When I scan the rest of the error message, I can see that I was successfully logged in. I have a feeling that the command prompt wasn't found.
Any suggestions?
thanks.

Some additional info...
If I open a windows command prompt and use plink to login to the servers, this is what I get on solaris:
C:\Empirix\e-LoadDataCollector\bin>plink -ssh userid@solarismachine
returns a command prompt that looks like:
←]0;userid@solarismachine:~←[m←[m←[m←[Uuserid@solarismachine:~#> ←[K
The AIX box returns the following as the command prompt:
←]0;userid@aixmachine:~←[m←(B←[m←[m          ←[Uuserid@aixmachine:~#> ←[K
I specified ~#> as the command prompt in eLoad.

• Reading newly opened command prompt output

I need to use SSH to connect to a server. Rather than downloading a third party SSH API, I would like to use Putty which is already on my computer. The problem is that when using Putty from the command line to connect to a server it opens the connection in a completely different command prompt window instead of the original window. How would I read the output from the new window? I believe this code would have worked if it opened the connection in the same command prompt window...
try{
File test = new File("c:\\program files\\putty");
Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
Process output = rt.exec("cmd /c putty.exe -ssh username@host", null, test);
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader (new InputStreamReader(output.getInputStream()));
String line = null;
while((line = br.readLine()) != null )
{ System.out.println(line); } // display process output
int exitVal = output.waitFor(); // get process exit value
System.out.println("Process Exit Value : "+ exitVal);
catch(IOException ioe){
System.err.println(ioe);
catch (Throwable t) {
t.printStackTrace();
}

• Command prompt appearing on several machine after install ?

I have several machines running intune now, some previously GFI and before that eset, but this is also occurring on new clients, every now and then a command prompt window is opening up and closing very quickly the only thing I can pinpoint is intune as
this happens moments after every install and happens daily at different times I have noticed it myself but it occurs far less for me compared to other machines (seeing this first hand) and we just use the 1 policy ?

I know this is very old but I’m trying to clean up old posts. Did you ever solve this? If so it would be good if you could post the solution to assist others. If not, at this
stage, as nobody has answered, I would recommend that you call Intune support if the issue still exists.
You will find your local Intune support number here

• What command to use in command prompt inside HP Recovery Manager to recover hard drive?

Hi,
I'm trying to use HP's Recovery Manager to restore my hard drive to the original factory settings. When going into Recovery Manager via "F11" during computer startup, all of the options are greyed out except, "Run Computer Checkup." Inside that option, all options are greyed-out except, "Open a command prompt."
Once I open a command prompt, the window title is "Administrator: X:\Windows\system32\Cmd.exe" and the command line in the window is "X:\Windows\RM\>"
I have no idea what command to enter here to recover the hard drive! What command should I use???
Why are all the normal options in Recovery Manager greyed out?
Background: I dropped my laptop and afterwards the computer will power on but not boot up from the hard drive - it says there is a hard drive error. I have been able to recover most/many files from the harddrive by taking it out and connecting it to another computer and using a recovery software program. I am not sure if the hard drive is physically/irreparably damaged, but it does spin and I have recovered many files from it. Now ready to recover it back to original state and then reload my recovered files.
Computer: HP Pavilion DM3-1030us purchased in January 2010
OS: Windows 7
Thanks for any suggestions anyone can offer!

There isn't a command that I am aware of to use at the command prompt that will recover your computer. If you dropped your computer, it is likely that the hard drive suffered physical damage. Please see HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista) for instructions on testing the hard drive. It is also possible that the HP Recovery partition was damaged and you may need to use the HP Recovery Media you created when you first setup your computer
If you didn't create this media, please contact official HP Customer Support in your region / country, via the HP Worldwide Support Portal, to see if HP Recovery Media is available for your computer. Software may not be covered by the warranty and there may be a charge for the HP Recovery Media.

• Portuguese characters in Command Prompt

Hello.
I have a similar problem but in Portuguese.
I've written an application in LUA connecting to an Oracle 11gR1 database,
running on Windows Vista Business 32.
The database charset is WE8MSWIN1252.
I have a table in which there is a column that have a value of "Manuteção".
When I run a query to the database using SQLDeveloper it works fine.
When the connection is made using LUA it retrieves wrong values. Even
SQL*Plus (DOS) get the values in the wrong way ("ManutenþÒo").
I do not know where should I set up any session parameter to get the
queries working in the same way SQLDeveloper does.
I have read the articles on NLS_PARAMETERS ( FAQ etc ) but I didn't
find any recipe or method to correct the client behavior.
I would appreciate any help on this matter.
Thank you very much
Jayme Jeffman Filho

Your problem is quite different from the original question about length of Spanish characters in AL32UTF8, therefore, I have branched your question into a new thread.
Regarding SQL*Plus Command Prompt (DOS), you need to set NLS_LANG to the OEM code page as follows:
C:\>chcpThis will show:
Active code page: 437or
Active code page: 850Depending on the output, use the following:
C:\>set NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.US8PC437
C:\>sqlplusor
C:\>set NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8PC850
C:\>sqlplusThis should solve the problem for SQL*Plus. Of course, you can use BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE_BRAZIL in place of AMERICAN_AMERICA:
C:\>set NLS_LANG=BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE_BRAZIL.WE8PC850
C:\>sqlplusRegarding the LUA application, is it a Command Prompt (character mode) application as well? Do the incorrect characters look the same as in SQL*Plus Command Prompt?
