[SOLVED] synaptics right-click

How do I get synaptics right-click to work on my laptop?
I added the following to xorg.conf:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "SynapticsTouchpad"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "HorizScrollDelta" "0"
Option "TapButton2" "3"
Option "TapButton3" "2"
Option "SHMConfig" "true"
EndSection

I found that this settings are working for me:
http://andreascarpino.it/2010/04/xorg-1 … iguration/
I tried to remove the options one by one and the minimal xorg.conf that gets two-finger tap right-click is the one below.
It seems like the "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" is determinant; if I remove it, right-click doesn't work.
Does anyone know why?
So this is my xorg.conf:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad"
Driver "synaptics"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "0"
EndSection
I forgot to mention that xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf contains this, and it looks like xorg.conf is read after this file.
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
Driver "synaptics"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
Option "TapButton1" "1"
Option "TapButton2" "2"
Option "TapButton3" "3"
EndSection

  • [SOLVED]Cannot right click in openbox

Quite simple actually, I cannot right click anywhere. Most everything else seems to work though.

I just used xev and found out that the key isn't even being picked up. I tried the same thing on an Ubuntu live CD. Looks like I've got a broken right-clicker...

I guess you are running openbox-standalone and your X closes when you do
    $ killall openbox
or some loginmanager. My mistake for not notifying earlier.
but there is the way around.
The trick is not letting exec to land on openbox-session.
for that you can for the moment move your .xinitrc
    $ mv .xinitrc .xinitrc.bak
then you can fireup you xinit which leaves you with xterm.
then run openbox-session or openbox, blender or alternative windows manager like fluxbox or something to just get work started.
My method are not really applicable you can see..

Instead of using execution statements involving
    synclient
on startup of X I'm now using /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf for configuring my settings. This solved the problem.
I realized by the way that in my former setup no matter how many fingers I used for pressing down the ClickPad it did always perform a normal click in addition. That is why the context menu disappeared right away: It performed a mixture of a right and left click.
@Head_on_a_Stick: No Problem, your attempt to help is much appreciated

  • Problems using right click to open in new Tab or Window. Will not work. How do you solve this. Have v5.0 installed.

I have the latest version of Firefox installed. Version 5.0.
When searching on Google and use right-click to open in new tab or window. Keep getting blank tab.
Can somebody advise how to solve this.
    Thank you.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

  • [solved] Thunar - icons in right-click-menu are gone

    Hi there.
Since some time my icons in the thunar right-click-menu are gone. I guess they disappeared with thunar 1.4 but I'm not sure.
Is there a way to make them come back? I have a hand full of custom actions and the icons help me to distinguish them faster.
When I open the custom actions manager the icons are still there and are correctly from my current icon theme.
    Thanks for help in advance.

    Forgot:
No DE, WM: Openbox, but both gtk2 and gtk3 are there and up to date.
I realized that other icons are missing too. Thunderbird and Firefox don't have icons in their drop down menus as well.
    Has something changed in gtk?
Uhrg. Just found it. In lxappearance you can tick 'Show icons in menus'. Don't know why this was unticked.
    So thread is solved.

  • Remove pointer from the left/right click areas of Synaptics touchpad

Just received my U510 a couple of days ago and the touchpad is driving me crazy.  My pointer moves around in the left/right click areas of the touchpad which is causes me to continually make the wrong selections because of a slight movement made by my finger in the click area.
I spoke with both hardware and software support at Lenovo and it appears that this is the way it is.  They uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and tried to make various adjustments, that I had already tried, without success.  I had first level support and they wanted to reinstall the O/S thinking that this was a hardware issue.  I tried to explain that I just simply want my right click to be a right click only and my left click to be a left click only in those areas of the touchpad wihtout my cursor/pointer moving while my finger is in those areas.  They did not understand.
I am running on Windows 8.1 and have the latest Windows 8 Synaptic driver 16.2.21.3.  Lenovo tried to install the driver for 8.1 but it will not install.  I don't think it will make a difference anyway.
This really isn't a problem just a major annoyance.
Has anyone tried contacting Synaptics about this?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks---

Perhaps the person who gave you the silly username can be persuaded to change it?
Very sad you are in such a jam that you've got to ask the people for mercy in this way.
Anyhow, in answer to question, if not a mechanical issue, then perhaps drivers.
If it is mechanical (unlikely) would not recommend you try to fix, send for repair.

  • [SOLVED]dwm-sprinkles: can't right click

Just installed dwm-sprinkles (compiled from source grabbed using svn because there's nothing in AUR or ABS for it), and I can no longer right click in firefox or use the drop-down menus.  Drop downs on websites work fine, but I can't use anything in the firefox toolbar.  ie, File, Edit, address bar history, ABP menu, etc.  These things all work fine in gftp and goggles, which are the only other gui apps that I really use.
It worked fine in vanilla dwm, which I built from the package in AUR.  Switched to dwm sprinkles because patching was a pain in the ass and sprinkles already has pretty much everything I need.  I'm guessing there is something in config.h that is causing this but I haven't changed anything except colors and terminal command.
Sorry if this has been posted/solved before, but there's just not much in-depth documentation on DWM out there (which is why I switched to a pre-patched version of it in the first place).

  • [solved] right-click menus instantly close

When I right-click in a GTK application, the context menu that appears is instantly closed upon release of the mouse button. This is extremely annoying as it always automatically selects the first option from the context menu, e.g. creating a new folder in Thunar.
I remember having read about this issue somewhere here in the Arch forums, but couldn't find the topic again since yesterday. I think it had something to do with the selected GTK or icon theme.
I'm using awesome as window manager and my GTK2-config looks like this:
    gtk-theme-name="Aldabra"
    gtk-icon-theme-name="gnome-brave"
    gtk-font-name="Sans 10"
    gtk-cursor-theme-name="Bluecurve"
    gtk-cursor-theme-size=0
    gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_ICONS
    gtk-toolbar-icon-size=GTK_ICON_SIZE_SMALL_TOOLBAR
    gtk-button-images=1
    gtk-menu-images=1
    gtk-enable-event-sounds=0
    gtk-enable-input-feedback-sounds=0
    gtk-xft-antialias=1
    gtk-xft-hinting=1
    gtk-xft-hintstyle="hintfull"
    gtk-xft-rgba="rgb"

  • Helix's synaptics bottom right click box

Other than the dropping wireless I get randomly when doing a large download from the internet, the only other issue I have with my 1 week old Helix now is that default bottom right corner "right click" box.  The properties of the driver allow you to make the box larger or leave it at the default smaller area, but they don't allow for complete removal.
I've been googling my butt off, and found some threads in a few places about it, and had been hopeful about one that mentioned a registry entry for button4, but having tried what it recommended (changing the value) it sitll is there.  Since I have it set to use a two finger touch for right clicking, this just interferes with my normal operations (although the 2 finger click still works fine at least).
Having come from Macbooks since 2009 (I transitioned to them from Tablet PC's becuase I loved their trackpad) I am used to being able to click with my thumb anywhere and have it be a left click.  This is especially important when it's on my laptop and I'm trying to drag something, when my thumb naturally will fall on the bottom right of the trackpad becuase of the angle my right arm has to the keyboard.
Has anyone with a Helix managed to come up with a way to remove this right click area completely?
    Thanks for any help

  • [Solved] Default application right-click menus (Openbox)

Hi, I am wondering how to edit the look of the default "right-click" menu for applications so that it matches my openbox root menu.  I want to do simple things, like take the icons out, and change the highlight color.  I've been doing a lot of digging (rc.xml, themerc, obtheme, google, etc)  and am just getting nowhere, but I'm wasting a ton of time looking, and feel like the answer is right under my nose. It seems like it's a "per app" sort of thing, where apps are unaffected by the ob theme.
    Any help is appreciated.

The openbox themes only affect elements that are controlled by the window manager.  Popup menus that come up in some applications when your right click are not controlled by the window manager - they are a component of a widget toolkit.  This would most likely be gtk or qt.  If it is gtk, you can edit your gtkrc or use a tool like lxappearance.

Go to your User's Library folder. (if you don't know how to find, see this link .)
              •          Scroll to Mail folder.
              •          Select the V2 > MailData folder.
              •          Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
When you open Mail it will re-index your files.
Open the Connection Doctor under Window in the Menu bar.
Do you see red lights? If yes, click on Show Details
Most likely you need to re-enter your passwords in SMTP settings.

  • [SOLVED]problems doing things on DE as admin, right click permissions

there are a few things that seem counter productive to having a DE, im using KDE and when i want to edit file permissions through the DE i right click on a file, properties, permissions tab, if i dont have permissions, then i cant edit permissions.  then i have to chmod, or chown in the console just to do what i was trying to do in my DE.
am i just going through a paradigm shift having been using  winows wayyyy tooo long?  or is there a way to get this to pop up an administration password so i can continue the operation in the DE, rather than have to switch out to the console each time?
i think what im trying to do here is when im in a DE, i want control as a desktop user, and password prompt antyhing that is ROOT, but atleast have access to it, and not have to back into a shell everytime i have to make config changes.    or is this just the windows tricks my mind is playing on me?

lol, that about explains what i am experiencing, good way to put it.
i think as i am mentioning in this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=119747 that there should be a prompt for a password, similar to when you add a share and the "Run as root -KDE su" password prompt comes up.  i think this should pop up for things like when your in file editor and try to edit a conf file as a standard user, and forget that your just a standard user until after you spent your time doing the edits, and when your trying to set permissions for things that you dont have permission for.
is there a setting, or a way to set this up to catch the action and prompt you?
i do see what your saying that its habit after you do it, i was just thinking that having to form that habit is counter productive to a DE, since a DE stands for "i want to use my mouse" and not "i want to type more"  and look at the keyboard when its half-dark and look for some hotkeys, usually after midnight i get like this.
personally, i get lazy at times, after spending a rigorous amount of time patiently coding, and typing 45-80 wpm hours on end, and at the end of the day, i want some mouse action, lol.
