[SOLVED][systemd-networkd] Cant use dns or something like

[edit]
SOLUTION: You need to set a resolv.conf
[/edit]
Hi all
Im trying to use systemd-networkd and its really looks nice.
BUT I cant use any kind of dns.
At the moment, Im with this config
[Match]
Name=enp2s0
Host=my-dear-desktop
[Network]
DHCP=true
there is no error or something like on
systemctl status systemd-networkd
. I also try some other configs with static dns, nothing work.
so, i have internet/network connection, but without names =/
I have tryed many configs like UseDNS=true or DNS=8.8.8.8 at myconfig.network but nothing works.

Not necessary, as your issue was specific to your system, and is unlikely to be encountered by others.
resolv.conf is provided by the filesystem package, which is of course part of every base Arch install. If it was not present on your system, somebody (or something) deleted it.

  • [Solved] systemd-journald periodically uses 50% CPU

    Hello!
    I run KDE 4.11 on Arch fully upgraded. Since shortly my system seems to choke periodically at the systemd-journald process. It takes 50% of the CPU power available and everything else is starting to studder and freeze. using jounalctl only shows normal log entries and not (like suggested somewhere else) a huge amount of error entries within seconds.
    I have tried to remedy this:
    - I disabled cups as mentioned somewhere else
    - I deleted all configuration files concerning alsa and pulseaudio (cause I found errors with journalctl) and reinstalled both
    - I set /var/log/journal to "copy on write" because it is on a btrfs partition (another suggestion in a thread)
    - I tried to somehow to disable systemd-journald (seems this is not possible)
    Nothing seems to solve the problem - still my the systemd-journald process peaks to 50% CPU every few minutes and stays at this ressource eating level for a few minutes. Then it drops down to normal again using only minimal ressources for a few minutes ...
    I am lost here. My system is really quite unusable though it is a fresh install from only two weeks ago. I only noticed this behaviour three days ago - afterwards I upgraded to kernel 3.10.9 but this hasn't changed anything either.
    Any ideas anyone?
    thx for reading,

    Hi jrusell!
    Well I think I could solve it ... here is what I did:
    - I deleted /var/log/journal
    - rebooted and looked at the fresh log via journalctl: now it generated fresh entries again and there it was: (like in similar problems) the log has been flushed with hundreds fo fail messages! ... something like a "user burst limit exceeded" for rtkit and I found a problem with nepomukindexer (should have guessed it's KDE again - after the update to 4.11)
    - so I stopped all nepomuk stuff and deleted ~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk, then let nepomuk trun again recreating the whole indexing database in the process (to be honest it's still in the process but ressources aren't used excessively)
    Since then there hasn't been any problem with the journald process yet ... :-)
    thx everybody for reading,
    p.

  • Something updated on my firefox when I rebooted the computer and now I cant get log into something like my amazon account without an error message about an ocsp

    I turned off my computer and turned it back on. Firefox did something with automatic updates. Since that time I have not been able to access things I could previously, such as my account on Amazon.com When I go to the amazon website and try to log in, I get an error message that says something about an OCSP certificate not being able to be authenticated. This happens on other sites as well. I did call amazon to report the problem. This was days ago and the problem persists. I can access my amazon account information on my home computer using firefox. This is just happening on my office computer since it did some auto updating. Both my home computer and the office computer on which I am having trouble using the browser are running on Wndows XP. Something clearly happened to the browswer on the office computer because I can access things on the home computer with the firefox browser that I can't on this computer.

    First attempt to try using Firefox in safe mode.

    Second attempt to correct the issues via refreshing Firefox.

    Third I recommend you use something like malwarebytes to scan your PC.

There used to be something on PS for that but now I cant find it in PS so I was advised to use Bridge.  However, there is something called Output Module (AOM) that is missing from my Bridge.  I downloaded this.  The instructions say :Copy the Adobe Output Module folder (not the AOM_Package_[OS] folder) into the Bridge CC Extensions folder in the appropriate location:
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CC Extensions
    Mac OS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CC Extensions.  However there is noplace on my Macbook Air running Yosemetie that has this /Library/Applications SUpport/Bridge CC Extensions. Can anyone advise?

    That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Safebooting disables Launch Agents/Daemon and Third Party Kernal extensions. Here's the article to Safeboot OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

  • Systemd-networkd, wpa_supplicant and multiple USB Wifi adapters

    TL;DR:
    Is there a way to run a single wpa_supplicant process that handles any kind of USB WiFi adapter in connection with systemd-networkd?
    Long version:
    I'm running systemd-networkd, which has made networking setup a lot easier for wired interfaces. I'd like to make it just as easy for WiFi interfaces, but it seems there's some kind of wildcard support missing for wpa_supplicant. My question is whether I got this right, or there is some trick somewhere I didn't think of.
    Here's my /etc/systemd/network/wifi.network:
    [Match]
    Name=wlp*
    [Network]
    DHCP=v4
    In addition, I'm running:
    systemctl start wpa_supplicant@wlp0s2f1u10
    because that's the interface that my current WiFi USB adapter comes up on. This goes with /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant-wlp0s2f1u10.conf:
    ctrl_interface=/run/wpa_supplicant
    eapol_version=1
    ap_scan=1
    fast_reauth=1
    network={
    ssid="something"
    psk="else"
    This all works fine, except that:
    I have to plug my USB Wifi adapter into this exact USB port, otherwise the interface name changes and wpa_supplicant isn't running there
    if I plug in a different USB WiFi adapter (I have a zoo; nothing exceptional I guess, but it's a pain to keep track of which goes with which computer), the interface name may be different and wpa_supplicant isn't running there
    systemd-networkd solved that problem nicely with the wildcard in the interface name above (Name=wlp*). (Also, dhcpcd -- which I'm not using in this setup -- can be told to listen to "all interface" which is sort of similar)
    My question: can I do something similar with wpa_supplicant, so I don't have to run a separate wpa_supplicant daemon on all possible interface names?
    I'm guessing the answer is No (and I'd like confirmation on that).
    Secondly, perhaps I can write one or more udev rules that will present all of those possible interfaces as wlan0, wlan1 or such. In which case I could presumably run wpa_supplicant@wlan0 only and be happy (assuming that wpa_supplicant is happy to run even as long as the interface does not exist. Does it?) Anybody have any hints how to go about this, I haven't done that.
    Thirdly, if neither of those are viable, is this a reasonable-enough set of requirements so it would  make sense to run this by the wpa_supplicant developers as a possible future feature?

    networkd "solved" nothing here. This is a mere coincidence that the wlp* wildcard works. For instance, you might have an interface called "wls1". Also, wpa_supplicant doesn't "listen" because "listen" applies to the TCP/IP layer. wpa_supplicant works at the frame level, so I'm not sure what you mean. If you want software that _manages_ multiple wifi interfaces, use netctl.

    Correct.

    For the udev part, do something like

    so that the unit doesn't fail if the adapter is not plugged. However, this solution is suboptimal (Think what happens if you suddenly remove the adapter)... You can try to use "BindsTo=" instead of "Requires=" but I wonder if you get errors on startup if the adapter is absent...

    No. wpa_supplicant is only supposed to to what it's told. It is not a canned network management solution.

  • [Solved] systemd-user-session: Best way to pass global ENV vars?

    Hey guys,
    So when using the [email protected] from the user-session-units what's the best / cleanest way to set global environment variables for that systemd --user instance (and thus, all programs spawned from it)?
    What I'm talking about is /etc/profile and $HOME/.profile.
    For example, I usally configure my XDG_CONFIG_HOME and XDG_CACHE_HOME in my ~/.profile. But since systemd --user is being started by systemd --session none of these environment variables are loaded.
    The solution I've come up is to change the ExecStart in the [email protected] file to something like this:
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/sh -c "source /etc/profile; source $HOME/.config/bash/environment; exec /usr/lib/systemd/systemd --user"
    I know I could use the `EnvironmentFile` option to load the environment variables from a file, but it's not as flexable as a bash script.
    Am I thinking about this problem wrong? Is there a more "systemd --user"-y way of solving the problem?
    Last edited by EvanPurkhiser (2013-08-12 03:02:48)

    I've more or less solved this using my own user-session units. I still don't know if my method would really be considered the proper way or not though.

    Sure, upgrade to 5.0, let me know what you discover.
    Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.
    See the link below for the download, and follow these simple installation instructions.
    Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.
    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=577BCC914F9E55D5E4E4F82F9F00E7D4
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • Systemd-networkd service takes too long on Compaq Mini Cq10-120LA

    Hi, I'm Oppen. I've been using Arch for around 6 months now, and I'm until now very pleased with it.
    However, I've noticed something that I find odd. I don't consider it necessarily a problem, but it sparks my curiosity.
    I'm running Arch in three different computers.
    One of them is relatively new (well, new, where I'm from, means a 2012 model), an HP Envy m6, running on an AMD A10.
    Another one is relatively old, a Via K8M800, with an Athlon64 x2.
    Both of them present similar boot times in all of the services I'd set up, which are pretty much the same on all of my boxes.
    Then, I have this netbook. It also shows similar times for all services, except for networkd, which takes 10-15 times more than in the other two boxes, with over 5 seconds to finish. I'd like to understand why this is happening, and if possible, to fix it so the boot time will shrink.
    So, I'll continue explaining which are my guesses, any criticism, corrections or ideas are welcome:
    - since my other two boxes run on AMD64, both of them with 64 bits Arch, and this one is an Atom running on i686 Arch, one lead would point to a lack of specific optimizations. But if that's the case, it remains unclear why it only happens with networkd.
    - another guess would point to actually the handshaking taking longer, either because the driver or hardware for wifi is slower or something related to either wpa_supplicant or networkd.
    I tried looking in the forums and google to see if there were any similar issue reported, but I had no luck.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas,
    Mario.

    For systemd-networkd, last boot, I get this log.

  • [SOLVED]systemd-timesyncd is not syncing time

    Quick solution:
    1) Check that systemd-networkd is running (if not, start it)
    2) If it is running and timesyncd is not syncing, just restart systemd-networkd
    more on this in the last post.
    Hello,
    I tried to replace ntp with systemd-timesyncd. I disabled ntpd, enabled systemd-timesyncd, enabled and set systemd-networkd (I found that it might help) over netctl (which I could uninstall then). It somehow worked for few reboots, but then it stopped. Of course there must be a reason why, but I can't figure out what it could be. Everything looks fine to me, but time is just not syncing and I'm 30 minutes in the past (compared with realtime). It loads saved time (as fake-hwclock does), but then there is no sync.

    Ok, thank you for your help. I signed a bug here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79836 .
    Edit:
    So here is a little help. timesyncd just waits for "network configuration change". I guess that (somehow) timesyncd is runned after networkd and then waits for change. All you have to do is
    systemctl restart systemd-networkd
    Here is example and steps to reproduce (after boot up, both networkd and timesyncd are enabled):
    ~ $ systemctl status systemd-timesyncd systemd-networkd
    * systemd-timesyncd.service - Network Time Synchronization
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-timesyncd.service; enabled)
    Active: active (running) since Wed 2014-06-11 17:55:50 CEST; 24min ago
    Docs: man:systemd-timesyncd.service(8)
    Main PID: 126 (systemd-timesyn)
    CGroup: /system.slice/systemd-timesyncd.service
    `-126 /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-timesyncd
    Jun 01 01:00:06 locsmxp systemd-timesyncd[126]: System clock time unset or jumped backwards, restoring from recorded timestamp:...0 CEST
    Jun 11 17:55:50 locsmxp systemd[1]: Started Network Time Synchronization.
    * systemd-networkd.service - Network Service
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-networkd.service; enabled)
    Active: active (running) since Wed 2014-06-11 17:55:51 CEST; 24min ago
    Docs: man:systemd-networkd.service(8)
    Main PID: 150 (systemd-network)
    Status: "Processing requests..."
    CGroup: /system.slice/systemd-networkd.service
    `-150 /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-networkd
    Jun 11 17:55:51 locsmxp systemd[1]: Started Network Service.

    Jun 11 17:55:52 locsmxp systemd-networkd[150]: eth0: gained carrier
    Hint: Some lines were ellipsized, use -l to show in full.
    now restart networkd:
    ~ $ systemctl restart systemd-networkd
    and result:
    ~ $ systemctl status systemd-timesyncd systemd-networkd

    I solved this issue by adding new service (guide here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … rocess.3F) which runs this simple script
    #!/usr/bin/bash
    sleep 15
    systemctl restart systemd-networkd
    So workaround...

  • [SOLVED]systemd service doesn't play sound

    I have a bash script which play via 'sox' a sound file. Something like this:
    play someFile -t alsa -q
    I set up a 'systemd --user' timer which calls this script at certain time. The timer is successfully called and the corresponding service is also successfully called and exits with SUCCESS code. The problem is that sound is not heared.
    When the service is called manually from the bash with
    systemctl start mySoundTimer.service
    the sound is played OK.
    The service file is as follows:
    [Unit]
    Description= A sound timer.
    [Service]
    Type=simple
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/bash /path/to/my/script.sh
    I tried several other combinations in ExecStart:
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/bash -c /path/to/my/script.sh
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/bash "-c /path/to/my/script.sh"
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/bash -c "/path/to/my/script.sh"
    No one is working. What can be the cause of the problem?
    EDIT:
    The cause of this is a different timing behaviour of systemd timer as compared to cron which I used before. (It seemingly takes into account the time of the last run and does not run again if it is called in less than the interval between runs specified in the timer file. And I tested the timer by setting the system date to several seconds before the timer's planned times.)

    msthev wrote:$ man systemd.service
    ExecStart=
    Note that this setting does not directly support shell command
    lines. If shell command lines are to be used they need to be passed
    explicitly to a shell implementation of some kind. Example:
    ExecStart=/bin/sh -c 'dmesg | tac'
    Thanks, changing ExecStart line to
    ExecStart=/bin/bash -c '/bin/echo 100 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness'
    solved the issue. Though I can recall seeing ExecStart lines with direct shell commands.

    You should look at tmpfiles.d.
