[Solved] thunar-archive-plugin won't install in Xfce 4.8.0

Hi again.
When I attempt to install the thunar archive integration package, this is the message I recieve despite having all the requirements installed.
NOTE for thunar-archive-plugin:
==> please install xarchiver, squeeze, file-roller or ark to use the plugin
Is there anything I can do to remedy this?
I found a thread from back in January with the same issue. But, These are different package versions involved.
Last edited by Who'sThere? (2011-06-03 03:15:08)

Yes. I've had Xfce4, Thunar, and Xarchiver installed  since day one of the initial netinstall.
No, Force installing the package doesn't work.
EDIT;
I ran the following command.
pacman -Rnss thunar xarchiver
I then ran.
pacman -Scc
After reinstalling all of the above apps, I now have the 'extract here', and 'extract to...' options available.

  • Thunar-Archive-Plugin after Xfce 4.8 update

After the update to 4.8 all my "extract here" menu items are gone, I have un/installed thunar, thunar-archive-plugin, xarchiver, squeeze, ark, & file-roller trying to get the functionality back but to no avail. I am at a loss where to turn to next with this issue, I know its trivial but when your used to using a thing for years then its gone you miss it.
    Regards

    OK, I got it.
In case someone else has this problem. The Trash and Removable Media icons were checked in Desktop Settings/Icons, but none of them showed up on the Desktop. The reason turned out to be the way how I started up xfce: instead of
    exec ck-launch-session xfce4-session
in my .xinitrc, it should be
    exec ck-launch-session startxfce4
startxfce4 is a script wrapper for xfce4-session, which also sets some env variables...
    Thanks anyway

  • Thunar-archive-plugin not working with Ark

I'm trying to use thunar and ark together.
Drag'n'drop from Ark to Thunar does not work. (Drag'n'drop from Thunar to Ark does however work.)
Extract Here/Extract To from Thunar's context menu gives the following error:
    Failed to extract files
    No suitable archive manager found.
Desktop Environment/Window Manager is Enlightenment(18, official repository)
    Please help
Last edited by rabcor (2014-06-30 03:31:54)

I don't know what sort of black magic occurred (my guess is mime database update when I reinstalled chrome), but now thunar detects ark properly and tries to use it. It does however not work unless I fix the extraction commands in /usr/lib/xfce4/thunar-archive-plugin/ark.tap.
    create)
    exec ark --add "$@" -f.zip
    extract-here)
exec ark --batch --destination "$folder" --autosubfolder "$@"
    extract-to)
exec ark --batch --dialog --destination "$folder" "$@"
(And that is old, like really 2 years? and this is not fixed yet? I also had to find out on my own how to fix the "create archive thing, added to the above for anyone who needs it", I mailed XFCE support/feedback about this since I'm too lazy to create an account to commit to their git.)
I still don't have drag'n'drop working though. Created a thread on it here.

  • Silverlight plugin won't install: error 1603... disable your antivirus

I could not install MS Silverlight. I had to turn off my antivirus and try again and then it worked.
When I tried to install Silverlight it got to 99% complete then I got a generic error 1603 "installation failed" message that was no help. The silverlightMSI file in %temp% (run from command line) shows a 1406 error code because the installer was unable to modify a registry key for Firefox (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\@Microsoft.com/NpCtrl,version=1.0). I do have admin rights for my account but my stupid McAfee antivirus blocked the installer from modifying the key.

    1603 is a "Fatal Error"
Have a look at these two links to see if they are any help
I scanned both URLs using Virus Total and they are indicated as 100% clean.

I have finally solved my problem... Here is what I did to do so. I must confess that it is someone in a french mac forum that told me how... And I understood better since it was in French.
My problem was related to the fact that my installer did work right. That I knew. In fact, it didn't open niether .dmg nor .pkg files.
I downloaded the pacifist from the net. I took my 'installation and reparation" disk of mac os x and put it in the machine. Be carefull : don't activate the installation program, because you will reformat you hard disc and loose everything (that was what I was really scared of...).
When the disc shows on you desk top, open the pacifist and, with it, go and seek ONLY the component you thing you need to remplace on your hard disc. For me, as I said, it was the installer. So I reinstall the installer, and I could therefore install mpeg2 and finally finish my portfolio.
Hope it can be helpfull for other, as they where for me. Thanks.

  • Google+  Hangouts video plugin won't install

I have to use Google+ Hangouts for my job (please don't laugh), and i can't install the plugin.  I'm running OSX 10.8.5 and when you attempt to install the Google Voice and Video it says:
Google Voice and Video can't be installed on this disk.  Mac OS X v 10.4.8 or later is required.
What's going on with this and why can't I install this plugin?

    http://www.google.com/+/learnmore/hangouts/
Try to download and install the plugin (button labeled with "available for your computer").
I have OSX 10.8.5 and the latest version of Chrome (30.0.1599.101)

  • Quicktime plugin won't install as Firefox plugin

I've downloaded and successfully installed the latest version (7.6.5) of Quicktime (standalone version).
However when I try to view a page requiring Quicktime in my Firefox browser, it says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." If I click the link it opens a dialog box "Plugin Finder Service" which shows Apple Quicktime as being available. When I click Next to install it it says the plugin is not available, with a link for Manual Install. Clicking that sends me to the same webpage I previously downloaded/installed Quicktime from. Further, checking the Firefox Plugins page shows I have Quicktime Plugin 7.6.5 installed and enabled.
Any ideas as to what the problem is?

What version of Firefox are you using? Maybe Firefox is blocking the plugin? At the Tools -> Options -> Applications is there an option to use the Quicktime plugin?

  • [SOLVED] Gnome Shell Extensions won't install from website

When I go to https://extensions.gnome.org/ from either Chromium or Firefox, extensions fail to install. If I click the toggle to turn a new extension "ON", nothing happens. Reloading the site switches it back to "OFF".
I was able to install gnome-shell-extension-mediaplayer-git from the AUR. (Which also pulls in gnome-shell-extension-common-git.) It works fine. The problem is that most of the extensions on the AUR appear to be outdated and the users directed to the official site.
This is a relatively new install of Arch and extensions have never worked. Maybe there's a package I'm missing? Or is there a way to get any debugging output? I'm not sure where to look.

I found the following from AskUbuntu (not my own words, pasted from the source:
I'll take a wild stab in the dark: If you're using Chrome/Chromium, navigate to about:plugins and make sure "Gnome Shell Integration" is enabled. Then navigate back to extensions.gnome.org and when the ribbon appears at the top make sure you "Always Allow for this Site"
On Firefox you'll have to do something similar if you've turned extensions off. Browse to about:plugins and make sure libgnome-shell-browser-plugin.so is present / enabled. If it's not, upgrade Gnome Shell, or find it on your filesystem and link to it from to ~/.mozilla/plugins (you shouldn't have to do this though).

which is why is always best to use makepkg/pacman to install anything. You never know where things are at/go to.
If you MUST make && make install  try to use ./configure --prefix=/usr .  Many pkg use /usr/local/ as default (as you see)

Your gem compilation hit known upstream bug https://github.com/ruby-gnome2/ruby-gnome2/issues/361 Here is a patch that fixes ruby-glib2 https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … ruby-glib2 I do not know if ruby-gtk3 should be patched or not (most likely not).
To fix "gem exists in filesystem" error you need to remove all the gems installed globally (to /usr/...). The best way is to use lostfiles package from AUR.

Around the above dates I installed pcmanfm to try it out, but subsequently uninstalled it.  Thunar was still working at the time.
Subsequently (today) I installed gvfs to see if it made any difference, but it did not.

Polkit-gnome was the missing ingredient.  With polkit-gnome installed the udisks.pkla file is not required.  One difference between the usdisks.pkla fix and the polkit-gnome fix is that you are prompted for root's password to mount the drive.  No problem for me there - I prefer it that way.
I did not decipher from the bug report that polkit-gnome was required for thunar in Xfce - only perhaps for thunar in gnome.  I wish this had been made more clear in the bug report I filed.
The thunar maintainer for arch wrote: Remove org.freedesktop.udisks.pkla; mounting/unmounting of removable media should continue to function through gvfs.  No mention that polkit-gnome was required as well (for all desktops I imagine).  I already did have polkit installed - just not polkit-gnome.  Polkit was working, just missing some pieces for full functionality.
In the end, I consider it a bug if a dependency is not listed as required or optional.

  • FireFox 13.01 won't install Flash Player Plugin

At some point in the not too distant past my Flash player stopped working in FireFox so I'm trying to remedy that. I see all the hooplah going on about incompatibility but I can't get to that point because the plug-in won't install in FireFox. I've tried everything I can and I'm assuming that it is supposed to show-up in the "plug-ins" list but it does not. Web pages tell me that I'm missing the plug-in even though all indicators are that it installed correctly (FlashPlayer reflects accurately in my control player). I've tried safe mode but no joy there either.
As far as RealPlayer is concerned I severed ANY and ALL relationship with that "%^&$#@" over a decade ago. It is not on my system.
I'm about ready to toss FireFox out the window and go back to IE (where I am not having this problem). This is not how auto-updating is supposed to work and I could care less about assigning blame.
Please do not suggest to me that I wipe everything FireFox related and start over. That is unacceptable. What am I missing or failing to do?  I woud prefer to not rollback to version 10 if possible.
    Win7/64/Administrator
    FireFox 13.01
    Flash Player Plugin version 11.3.300.262

Apple sent me a disc for Snow Leapord so I could upgrade to Lion, but the disc won't install.  Anyone else have that problem?  How do i solve?  Can't move to I cloud until it is done.

Hold c and reboot off the 10.6 disk, run the installer.
If the machine your upgrading is the 2006, I'd highly advise you stay on 10.6.8
It's a 5 year old machine, you're in the last life stages of that machine and 10.7 will push it right over the edge.
10.6 is a GOOD upgrade for that machine, faster than 10.7 or 10.5.
And 10.6 will run your 10.5 software, 10.7 will not.
Get iCloud with a new 10.8 machine coming out after this summer, seriously.
Your machine is too old to bother with Lion.
Or else you can learn yourself and use this link to get back to Snow, good luck finding your 10.5 programs.

  • [SOLVED] Both stable and unstable chromium-pepper-flash won't install

    Hi all,
I just installed Chromium, but am unable to install Flash. It was recommended that I install pepper-flash rather than flashplugin, since the latter is deprecated. But there is a problem:
chromium-pepper-flash-stable won't install because the link to the package is invalid:
    ERROR: Failure while downloading google-chrome-stable-31.0.1650.57-1.x86_64.rpm
chromium-pepper-flash won't install because the md5 checksum is invalid:
==> Validating source files with md5sums...
    google-chrome-unstable_current_amd64.deb ... FAILED
    LICENSE.txt ... Passed
==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check!
This leaves me with three questions:
Does this happen often, or is it a freak coincidence that both recommended Flash packages are broken on the first day I start using Arch?
I can probably find the proper package file for chromium-pepper-flash-stable, but what is recommended practice for installing it (if I am in a hurry, or just impatient)? Should I hack the PKGBUILD file myself?
Should I flag these packages as out-of-date in AUR?
    Thanks!

Yes, edit the PKGBUILD yourself. Both the link and the checksum.
Have a look at the comments: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/chro … mments=all Being broken is not an uncommon occurrence for this package.
