[SOLVED] Trouble Making Conky Bottom Panel

I'm trying to create a bottom panel with conky that will replace LXDE's panel.  Right now I have everything set up adequately except for having the conky panel appear on the bottom.  The conky manpage mentions the panel setup under own_window_type, and says that it follows the lead of the alignment variable, so I figured setting the alignment before setting own_window_type may fix the issue, but I haven't had any such luck.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to be posting in about conky assistance, but this section of the forum has helped me a ton in getting familiar with Arch, so its my safe guess for now.  Any direction on asking elsewhere would be equally appreciated.

own_window_type must be panel, otherwise it doesn't behave like a panel.  And adding "above" to the hints instead of "below" doesn't fix it.
Maybe the other options have some effect.  When i tried setting "own_window" to "no", conky would disregard my transparency option and just make it transparent.

  • [SOLVED] Having trouble making QT apps use GTK theme

Hello everyone, I'm having trouble making QT apps use my GTK theme in openbox.
Some apps seem to work just fine but others don't.
^Such as above, as you can see VLC is working, as is qtconfig, but k9copy and k3b are not.
I've did the suggestions that are listed in the wiki. (http://tinyurl.com/ybhb7yr)
And even rebooted after I did them, still no go.
    My .gtkrc-2.0 file simply contains:
    gtk-theme-name="Clearlooks_blackblue"
    gtk-icon-theme-name="Tango"
Does anyone have any ideas why it's not working with k9copy and k3b/how to fix it?
    Thanks.

while browsing suddenly the system crashed and the bottom panel says " stopped".When closed and re-opened, I got a prompt that says firefox is still running and i have to close to open again or have to restart the computer but it doesn't work
    == This happened ==

You get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
    Find your profile folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say?

  • Missing bottom panel in PSE 12 Elements Organiser

Hi. This is probably a really silly question, but does anyone know how to bring back the bottom panel in my organiser window? It disappeared for no reason I can think of a couple of weeks ago, and despite scouring the forums, can't find how to unhide it or re-set it up. Help please

It’s possible that your application window is larger than your monitor/display as there is no switch for hiding the bottom menu/options bar.
Try changing your screen resolution or perhaps minimizing the window and dragging a top or bottom corner to re-size.

  • Total records not shown in bottom panel

    Hi all,
I am running Forms 10g. When my forms runs, the total record count does not shown in the bottom panel but a question mark instead. For example it would show 1/?
Could you tell me why it would do that?
    Thank you.

This is because forms do not know, how many records will be retrieved from the database.
If you go to the last record, forms will show you how many records are in your block.
You can set the Query All Records block-property to yes to see immediately how many records there,
but if there are a lot of records to fetch, it might results in a long query time.

The examples I've seen on the forum (like this excellent post #4 from [vEX])  all show the it87 modules reporting temp1, temp2, temp3, etc. as "Sys temp" or "CPU temp," which then makes it pretty clear. But here I'm guessing 31C is the system/motherboard temp, and that shows up fine with hwmon 0 temp 3 as expected.
But I can't find what is reporting these coretemp-isa values, or how I would get them into conky. I searched through the conky variables page but didn't see anything related to isa or cpu temps  reported this way (coretemp-isa, etc.) The xfce sensors plugin lists them as "coretemp-0" "coretemp-1" etc.  On a whim I tried adding those in with the platform variable (eg: platform it8718 coretemp-isa-0000 (or just coretemp-0, etc.)}), and all kinds of other combinations, but needless to say it didn't work. The it87 directories don't seem to show those values either:

    Hi Folks,
I have the coretemp and it87 type chips and was using the method of lunch_box and sparky to get the temps in conky.   After reading fphillips's  post  I started hunting around in /sys/ and playing with .conkrc.  On my box:
    ${hwmon 0 temp 1} refers to /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/device/temp1_input
    and
    ${hwmon 4 fan 1} refers to /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon4/device/fan4_input
So I now use $hwmon in .conkyrc which should preform a little better than execi and sensors.

  • Trying to install RAM, bottom panel is impossible to unscrew

I just bought 8GB of RAM from Crucial for my 13" MacBook Pro.
I am unable to unscrew the bottom panel to install the memory. So far I've destroyed 3 screwdrivers just trying to unscrew 1 screw. I've used Philips 00, as well as 0 for good measure - the screws aren't budging.
I've called several local Apple Stores, and they all refuse to help me because I did not buy the RAM directly from them.
This is kind of silly - what am I supposed to do?

I would suggest that you get better screwdrivers. I have upgraded the RAM and hard disk in my 2007 MacBook Pro and the only issue I had was when I first tried to use a Phillips screw driver to unscrew a Torx T-6 screw. I've been using this set of screw drivers since the 1980's or 1990's. I own some Snap-On drivers, some Wiha (German made) drivers, and some cheap drivers I got from an Ace Hardware discount bin for $4.95 (fro the Torx T-6 driver).

  • [SOLVED] Trouble with Install that I've never seen before (Gnucash)

Hello all! I am rather new to Arch. I came over from Windows (disgruntled up to Win 7). When I first came over to Linux I did so via Ubuntu (12.04 and 13.10) and Mint (16). Seeing that Ubuntu would love to eventually sell us all out I decided to give Arch a try and LOVED IT! The install went smoothly and almost every program that I have needed has installed flawlessly..That is with the exception of Gnucash. I do a lot of freelance bookkeeping work and Gnucash is most definitely the best program I have found out there (even when I was using Windows). I have tried to install from BOTH the official repository and the AUR with no luck. I am using a 64 bit install of Arch on a Dell Inspiron 1440. All of my packages and repositories have been updated through pacman -Syu and -Syy. Below is the results message that I receive when trying to install from EITHER repository (AUR version is what I have posted). It shows that there appear to be two corrupt packages. If any of you can guide me in the right direction as to how to possibly rectify my trouble I would be most appreciative.
