[SOLVED] Unicode rendering in Chromium

Question

I realize there has been several threads on the same topic, but I still haven't found a solution.
Both the GTK font and the default Chromium font is Arimo. Certain Unicode characters (mostly Asian scripts) are displayed correctly in GTK (tab titles, URL textbox, tooltips), but not on the rendered page. Example:

If you have the default fontconfig version installed, you should have 40-nonlatin.conf / 65-nonlatin.conf in /etc/fonts/conf.avail (at least one of them). There are also corresponding *latin.conf(s) there, and you should have symbolic links to them in /etc/fonts/conf.d. Basic fontconfig configuration should be enough for most glyphs (Khmer is an example of language that requires extra fonts, though).
