[SOLVED] unstable wireless connection

Hi,
Wireless connection has some troubles. I don't get connection drops or anything in everyting.log mentioning errors with wlan. I tried wicd, Networkmanager and netcfg - but alas - no better results in any of them. The problem is that when checking mail, upgrading packages, ... sometimes connection cannot be made. Most of the time, running the same program immediately a second time, won't give this error. Less error-tolerant programs just crash/quit with an error-message.
Errors are like (in Dutch, I tried an English translation after ***):
Herleiden van v3.lscache4.c.bigcache.googleapis.com... mislukt: Naam of dienst is niet bekend. *** Failed to resolve from ... Name or service unknown.
wget: kan host-adres '‘v3.lscache4.c.bigcache.googleapis.com’' niet herleiden *** Cannot resolve host-addres
I've on the same laptop Sabayon and Ubuntu running where those problems do not occur.

Edit: solution: Disabling ipv6

The thing is, I cannot run it when it happens, because it is not a disconnection. It is more like small hickups. Fault-tolerant applications won't give an error. But using wget/curl might fail 1, 2 or three consecutive times, but can succeed flawlessly a 4th time. :-/

  • [SOLVED] No wireless connection with linux-3.2.2-1

After upgrading to linux-3.2.2-1, my wireless connection stopped working. It "connects", but I can't get an IP address through dhcp. Assigning an IP manually doesn't do the trick, I can't even reach the router through ping.
Downgrading to 3.2.1-2 fixes the issue.
I suspect this may be a regression but I couldn't find any information or reports of other people having the same problem anywhere.
I should note that I can establish a working connection when running the new kernel by using an external USB wireless device, so this probably has to do with the modules/drivers of my network card (?).
This is the ouput of some commands when running the new kernel (wlan1 is the device mentioned avobe):

  • [Solved] No wireless connection after reboot.

I installed through a wireless connection. I installed inside of VirtualBox, and I installed wireless_tools, wpa_supplicant, and wpa_actiond dialog. So I had wireless internet on the live cd, but not after the install. Is there some driver that I am missing? Is there some VirtualBox special feature I am missing?
lspci | grep -i net   =   intel corporation 82540em gigabit ethernet controller
I don't think I need to install any additional firmware for this driver.
iwconfig = enp0s3 no wireless extensions
                    lo no wireless extensions
I tried adding manually loading iwl3945 and iwl4965, one of which I think is my driver.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
The fix was typing "systemctl enable dhcpcd".

  • [SOLVED] Loosing Wireless Connection

I am constantly loosing my wireless connection while I am trying to download something, usually I don't reach 60 MB and it's gone.
I am also loosing my connection while browsing the internet for 2-3 hours.
In both cases it reconnects after 2 minutes ,sometimes more.
I still have my IP address during these 2 minutes.
I tried different connection methods : wifi-menu, netctl, NetworkManager , manually with wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd(or dhclient) but they all lead to loosing my connection after a time.

first of all I stopped my NetworkManager.service and then :

    Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant

  • M40X-250: Unstable wireless connection 54mbps

    Hi,
a month ago i bought a new m40x-250 and a brand new US robotics maxg router, the problem is, i'm using it wireless and we set it on 54mbps, we secured the network in the recommended version of us robotics which is WPA, so everything looks normal, but the problem is after several minutes connection (internet) falls out and then its back, like ten times in one hour.
So i thought it's my laptop, so i sent it back to Toshiba, complete check up, they found nothing, system works perfect! got me thinking and i put the router on 11mbps, now the wifi works excellent, but my question is howcome not on 54mbps?? It should be cos it's both that standard, on the router and the laptop (802.11g) now i use 802,11b.
the only thing i can think of is my pc card.
Can someone give me some advice here??
    Thanks!
    kris.

    Hello Kris
Unfortunately many users reported about this appearance and it is obviously because of WiFi card. If you check Wireless board you can find lot of topics with similar theme.
A few days ago I have found interesting article about WLAN connection interrupts under SP2. Try to disable this.
Go to START > RUN > put services.msc. Please found option Wireless Zero Configuration and change the status. I really dont know if this can help but you can try it.
My notebook has no the same WiFi card and I can not test it. Please let me know what happen after status changing.
    Good luck!

  • R400 - unstable wireless connection

    Hi there,
I have a fairly new Lenovo R400 and since I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 I seem to log on and off every other minute, which is really annoying. Anyone knows the reason for this?
I've installed all drivers from the disc that Lenovo sent me. I've even been looking for additional drivers on this page, without any luck however.
    Any good suggestions?
    Thank you
    / Andreas

  • Extremely unstable wireless connection

Since Saturday my connection just stops working every 15-30 minutes. Disconnecting and reconnecting solves the problem, but I'm sure there's a better option than netcfg -r'ing all the time.
There was a kernel update on Friday (3.1.9 -> 3.2.1), so I suspect that could be the problem. Any ideas?
EDIT: I noticed there was a new kernel update available, the connection seems to work for now... It worked for over 2 hours yesterday before acting up, though, so I'm not sure if the problem's actually solved yet.
    EDIT2: Kernel update didn't help

Well, there's only so much you can do on your own. Still, there are some things for you to consider.
First, we still don't know if it's a bug that only affects you. It may be more widespread, but I still wasn't able to find anyone reporting similar trouble as you have. It may be caused by the fact that your wifi card isn't that common - it should be supported by the kernel, but the fewer people use a device, the longer it may take until a bug gets recognized and fixed. It still may be caused by something in your system, but I'm out of ideas on how to figure that one out. And since it's a kernel we're talking about, I'm of the opinion that the kernel developers should be made aware of the issue. Here are some guidelines on how to report kernel bugs, but it would be appropriate if someone more accustomed to this process could step in now and give more information on how to proceed. I never had to do something like that myself, so what I'm saying is just what I could find out by googling and directly on kernel.org.
And second, reporting a bug won't fix your immediate problem. Even if you report it, we don't know if it ever gets any serious attention, and even if it does, when it's going to get fixed. Staying on outdated kernel can hardly be called a solution either. So, these are the only options I think you have, besides reporting a bug, which you should do either way:
    - keep using older kernel and watch changelogs and your bug report mailing list for any development
    - be ok with having to reconnect every now and then while using fully updated system, and again keep watching the situation. You may consider using tools like networkmanager or wicd, which should be able to reconnect you once you lose connection
    - since you're using a desktop PC (which I assume you don't move around), consider using ethernet connection for now if that's an option
    - get a new wifi card. Simplest solution available, if working wifi is your only option and you can spare the cash, they aren't expensive nowadays anyway. Obviously not a very elegant solution, but it will work for sure
Sorry I couldn't help any more. Again, someone please step in if you have any more ideas.

  • T60 -- Bad Wireless connection. Help please!

Hi Guys, my T60 has unstable wireless connection problem. I make sure the radio is "ON". It gets connected to the DSL network but it gets disconnected on and off ( the radio turns off by itself sometimes). Something wrong with my Intel PRO Wireless driver 3945abg? Can anyone guide me how to fix the problem??
    Thank you!!
    -meLittlebee

    Hi there,
I'm having the exact same problem - installed the OS (Windows XP Pro) adding SP3 and updating all drivers.
Then I connect to the wireless whitout any problems. I go to sleep, and next day wireless don't work!
The Machine is a T60 2008-WGV. I have made a image of the clean disk with Clonezilla, and therefore I can restore the OS quickly to a working wireless, but I find it quite anoing to have a clean OS every morning, in order to use network.
    anyone please?

  • [SOLVED] Unstable connection with wireless router using rt73

I'm using the rt2x00 wireless driver for my rt73 based dongle and I'm on the latest (stock) kernel 2.6.31-6.
On startup my wireless connection behaves normal. Here's the output of iwconfig :
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"dlink"
    Mode:Managed Frequency:2.417 GHz Access Point: 00:1C:F0:C5:C7:0B
    Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
    Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
    Power Management:on
    Link Quality=44/70 Signal level=-66 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
Now after some time (15 minutes, half an hour, an hour or sometimes even after 5 minutes) my connection between the dongle and my wireless router gets lost and it sometimes reconnects automatically, sometimes not. In my browser I frequently get an error that my connection is lost. However, if I 'reload' the web page after that I almost instantly get the demanded page. Another option is to restart my wireless network using '/etc/rc.d/net-profiles restart'.
Here's an output of pinging my wireless router that describes the above behavior :
    chris@megatron ~]$ ping -v 192.168.0.1
    PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.

    64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=12 ttl=64 time=2.77 ms
dmesg does not output anything special about my rt73.
What's happening ? Is there any way I can get more verbose output for my problem ?
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, I think I solved the problem.
    I did two things :
    1) switch from wpa to wpa2 (made new netcfg profile); I do not know if that helps much but I changed it since my router (a DLINK 635 wireless N) advises to so since this augments performance compared to a configuration that needs to support both wpa and wpa2.
    2) rebooted my rooter the moment I encountered the connection problem. The router is configured to automatically switch the best channel available. It switched from channel 1 to 7. Apparently there was interference on channel 1 (probably because of wireless network of one of my neighbors ...).
For some strange reason the combination of these two make my network stable now. I'll cross my fingers and hope this does not happen again anymore...

  • Wireless connection lost in few seconds [solved]

    Hi everyone
just come back to Arch after one year. The community grown fast and support seems to be fantastic.
Anyway, I have problems with my wireless connection. I installed the system from cd including ipw2200 driver (the right one for my card).
I followed the entire wiki guide on wireless and it seems to work, wpa_supplicant can associate to the access point and dhcpcd gets an address (valid). I can also ping external addresses (so DNS work too). After 5 seconds, anyhow, if I ping someone I got the message "network is unreachable".
Under windows the AP works fine. it has WPA-TKIP encription.
    Thanks everyone

I just managed to solve the problem.
Actually, this problem is only for encripted connections. with open ones it works fine. I just made an attempt on an open router and it works. Then downloaded KDE and WICD and now it works fine also on encripted connections. Maybe WICD uses other modules to manage encription?
@statix: I ran wpa_supplicant manually and there were no errors, even after a long time. Quite strange. Could it be a wpa_supplicant bug? or a dhcpcd one?
@djzapi: kernel 2.6.30. Intel PCI wireless card. 32 bit system.

    thanks that solved my problem.

  • [SOLVED] Wireless connection fails after upgrade to dhcpcd 6.2.1

After upgrade of dhcpcd 6.1.0  to 6.2.1 three days ago (pacman -Syu) my wireless connection fails: deauthenticating from ... by local choice (reason=3)

Downgrade to dhcpcd 6.1.0 heals the problem.

In case it is related to ath9k:
    # modinfo ath9k
    filename:
    /lib/modules/3.12.9-2-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/ath9k.ko.gz
I couldn't find a bug report on neither dhcpcd nor ath9k.
Any idea what I can do to follow up on this?

  • Has anybody solved the slow wireless connections speeds of the new Imacs

I have just purchased the new imac...and was made aware of the disastrous connections speeds using wireless.. Does anybody know if apple have come up with a solution...or are they just not dealing with the problem?

I am a brand new Mac user with a new 24 inch iMac purchase. Macs are supposed to be hassle free right? Right. No question I was about ready to throw it out the window because the wireless connection to the expensive AP base station was, oh, 100x slower than my Dell laptop side by side about 1 foot away. Nothing changed even if I connected directly to the AP using an ethernet cable. My connection consists of an Actiontec DSL gateway connected directly to my AP extreme that allows wireless to my PC laptop as well as my new iMac. Hours and hours go by until I find this help link on Mac Orchard Forums:

+WOW!! everyone else with this problem read this! i was having these same huge speed problems using the internet with my new 24" dual core intel imac with 2 gigs of ram and found a posting on another site's thread that fixed it completely.+
+"Try setting your DNS servers to OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) and see if that helps at all. Maybe the ISP's changes increased the load on their DNS servers."+
+my guess is that somehow these DNS servers work the way tiger likes them to while others dont, i have no clue other than to say it works!!+
+heres a site i found that helped me understand how to change the settings:+
    +http://portforward.com/networking/static-Mac10.4.htm "+
With the new Leopard installed I went to the "portforward" link first and followed the instructions exactly to set a static IP address, then I reset my DNS servers with the exact numbers you see above - IT WORKED IMMEDIATELY!!!!! I didn't have to call my ISP or anything, it just worked exactly as it should with both Safari and Firefox. Now this Mac is flying and I will not be tossing it back to Jobs.
    Good Luck!

  • Wireless connection issue with KNetworkManager [SOLVED]

Is there anyway to connect to a WPA2 with PEAP with GTC authentication? Google hasn't come up with much, and I was wondering if there was a way to set it up without the GUI or perhaps an addition to the GUI? I would prefer to use KNetworkManager instead of WICD, which does have support for this wireless connection.
Edit: Found out how to do it.
    WPA/WPA2 Enterprise - Protected PEAP - PEAP Version 0 - MSCHAPv2

Then I connected without any problems.
Your WLAN card working very well! In my opinion there is some problem with settings. When you use your notebook at home be sure you use right WLAN password.
I do not know where you try to use WLAN if you are not at home (maybe in your company) but try to contact system administrator and see what is wrong there. Please let me know where you try to use WLAN connection.
