[solved] Upgrade audiofile broke mpd

Yesterdays upgrade of audiofile from (0.3.2-1 -> 0.3.3-1) broke mpd (version 0.16.6.-1) on X86_64.

Thanks Larsson, that should do indeed the trick.
Other temporarily solution is to downgrade audiofile to 0.3.2.1 if you have it still in /var/cache/pacman/pkg (pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/audiofile-0.3.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz )

  • [Solved] Upgrade breaks checkgmail

    I'm running checkgmail version 1.14pre2-svn from AUR. I upgraded a ton of packages on my system yesterday, including going from Perl 5 to 6. Now, when starting checkgmail, it complains:
    CheckGmail v1.14pre2-svn
    Copyright © 2005-6, Owen Marshall
    Sorry! CheckGmail can't find the following package(s) on your system. These packages are needed for CheckGmail to run.
    LWP::UserAgent HTTP::Request::Common
    Try installing them if they're provided by your distro, and then run CheckGmail again ...
    If that fails, you might have to download and install the packages from CPAN (http://search.cpan.org)
    It might be related to this bug, so I installed perl-lwp-protocol-https, but the problem persists.
    Any ideas?

  • [SOLVED] Upgrades broke glibc

    At least I think that's what happened. I usually upgrade with a 'yaourt -Syu --aur --devel', select no to edit PKGBUILDs, and if it's been a while opt not to use existing sources and instead downloading everything again. I've now got a whole schwack of programs that don't want to start - nautilus, gnome-terminal, evince - and a couple that have issues that may or may not be related - chromium, firefox (webkit ?) - and crash whenever I try to download a file.
    When I try to start nautilus et al I get:

    [OT]
    The grep part is handy (but he should grep for the package name), as pacman searches the whole 'pacman -Qi' output:
    [karol@black ~]$ pacman -Qs syslog
    local/perl-device-modem 1.54-1 [0,12 MB]
    Perl extension to talk to modem devices connected via serial port
    local/syslog-ng 3.2.4-3 [1,16 MB] (base)
    Next-generation syslogd with advanced networking and filtering capabilities
    '--quiet' doesn't help of course:
    [karol@black ~]$ pacman -Qqs syslog
    perl-device-modem
    syslog-ng
    Why would I want perl-device-modem if I'm searching for syslog?

  • [SOLVED] Upgrade Broke Stunnel

    Just a heads-up for stunnel4 users.  For some reason, stunnel couldn't start on two Arch boxes after a recent u/g.  This upgrade covered the last 4 days (12-15 through 12/20/11).  Startup attempts were returning a spew that included:
    chroot: No such file or directory (2)
    After trying a couple of dead ends, including manually creating /var/run/stunnel (this allowed the service to appear to start, but not to create a pid), I found that a reinstall of stunnel4 did the trick.
    --cheers.

    I have the same problem, but it seems that I need to reinstalll stunnel everytime I boot the machine.
    Is it the same for you?
    cheers

  • [SOLVED] Upgrade broke vim, tmux, j4-desktop (and perhaps more)

    I just upgraded my systems, and now several strange things are happening.
    I'm using powerline fonts in tmux and vim/gvim. In gvim, everything behaves normal, but in vim, the fonts are just plain broken. Typing space just writes Â.
    The fonts are also just plain broken in the terminal - tmux doesn't show anything in the statusline at all, while the output is garbled in vim.
    Trying to start j4-dmenu-desktop also gives an error:
    j4-dmenu-desktop --dmenu="dmenu -p 'open' -i -z "
    SearchPath: /usr/share/applications/
    SearchPath: /home/simendsjo/.local/share/applications/

      what():  basic_string::_S_construct null not valid
    [1]    18502 abort (core dumped)  j4-dmenu-desktop --dmenu="dmenu -p 'open' -i -z "
    I noticed the upgrade included glibc and openjdk among other things.
    I don't even know where to start trying to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • [SOLVED] Upgrade to XOrg 1.15 broke KWin and DRI_PRIME

    I did another "pacman -Syu" this morning hoping for an uneventful update. However, after a reboot I found my KDE to be in a pretty much useless. Windows were black except for decorations (http://prifuk.cz/non_drupal/kwin_black.jpg) and DRI_PRIME=1 doesn't run 3D acceleration on my Radeon DIS anymore. At first I suspected a problem with mesa but the problem persisted even after a downgrade to 10.0.1 which worked fine for me. Another suspect on the list is X.Org but I cannot roll back to 1.14 because everything apparently depends on GLAMOR now and I do not have all necessary packages in pacman's cache anymore.
    I switched KWin to use XRender instead of OpenGL which at least renders the screen correctly, OpenBox works fine too. I might be wrong about X.Org being the cause but I can't think of anything else. Does anybody have any idea how to debug this issue? I have an Intel HD3000 + Radeon 6400M, both were working fine before the last update.

    I noticed this as well, though not using kwin. I got DRI_PRIME back by manually
    xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 0x55 0x7d
    where the numbers are the given by
    xrandr --listproviders
    (xrandr is not installed by default with Xorg, package name xorg-xrandr).
    Reference: Prime - ArchWiki
    I have not yet delved deeper into why it's no longer set automatically.
    EDIT: I probably jumped the gun, I have none of your problems, I just noticed DRI_PRIME=1 wasn't enough to use the radeon card. I probably had to:
    xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 0x55 0x7d
    before as well.

  • [SOLVED] upgrade using Octopi system will not boot into DM

    I did a system upgrade using Octopi late last night. I use Enlightenment and Gnome. After the upgrade the desktop froze (E), so I switched to a vt and rebooted. That failed to work, so I forced power off using the power button and went to bed. The next day I started up the laptop (lenovo t430) but the boot never got to gdm login. I stops with the line: "[ OK ] Started Accounts Service". Using htop I see that gdm is running.
    Then I opened a vt and tried to do another upgrade (pacman -Syu), but that failed with an error message stating that a libgpgme was too short. I took a look and found that both libgpgme files were empty (0 bytes). I went to my pacman cache and found the packages and use them to copy over the lib files. Pacman then worked. But booting still did not.
    All this made me curious, so I checked my /usr/lib dir and found 54 lib files empty. I'm certainly no system expert, but this doesn't seem like a good sign to me. When ldconfig is run a very long list of empty libs is printed to the screen.
    At any rate, I'm wonder if anyone else ran into this issue and (of course) if anyone has a solution for this? I really don't want to go through each empty lib and copy the files by hand if I can avoid it.
    Any help would be very appreciated.
    TIA
    Gary

    Thank you for the link, not to mention the quick reply.
    The packages python-packagekit and packagekit had to be removed before I could start the installation as they had a dependency on a older version of pacman. My mirrors file caused a good deal of packages to not be downloaded, so that had to be changed. Afterwards everything went well. This experience has shown me the strength of the Arch package system, it's really an amazing system.
    I tried the recommended command from the above link but kept getting numerous error messages stating that such and such file already existed on the filesystem. Which was true enough, so I added the --force parameter and that did the trick.
    This is the command I used to get running again:
    pacman -S $(pacman -Qnq) --force
    Problem solved. Except I have to wonder how it was caused in the first place. If it was caused by using Octopi, I guess I should run that by the author. And I'll have to either go back to using the command line or try another gui.

  • [SOLVED] Upgrade from SLES10 SP3 & OES2 SP2 to SP4/SP3 breaks NCS

    Hi folks,
    (This post was originally meant to be a rant and a request for help, but
    while writing the final paragraph i found the solution. It's still a
    rant, but i figured i'd post my solution here in case someone else runs
    into the same issue.)
    I've just spent several hours banging my head against a broken cluster
    node. My system is a 32-bit SLES 10 VM running on VMware ESX 3.5.x.
    I upgraded from SLES10 SP3 and OES2 SP2 to the next service packs for
    each (using the move-to-oes-sp3 script in yast2 online_update).
    Everything went well for the first few update/reboot sequences, then
    after the final reboot on SLES10 SP4 & OES2 SP3, cluster services would
    not load or join the cluster on restart.
    I checked dmesg and found errors about "Loading module compiled for
    kernel version 2.6.16.60-0.54.5-vmi" into a previous kernel version, so
    i tried downgrading to that kernel version, only to find that it was
    older than the one i had just upgraded from (it's the original SLES10
    SP3 kernel). So i tried upgrading back to the same kernel which is
    running on the other cluster node (2.6.16.60-0.77.1-vmi), but that did
    not work any better.
    <preaching>
    I have to say that i'm not impressed that OES2 SP3 isn't even compiled
    against the appropriate kernel, and because of SUSE's kernel RPM
    overwrite policy there's no way i can select to boot from a previous
    kernel to see if that fixes things. Note to SUSE and other distro
    builders: if you're not doing kernel package upgrades like Red Hat or
    Ubuntu (so that we can select to boot from the previous kernel from the
    boot menu), you're doing it *WRONG*.
    </preaching>
    I then upgraded again to the latest recommended kernel for SLES10 SP4,
    and still no joy. Dmesg shows this error before the rot starts:
    allocation failed: out of vmalloc space - use vmalloc=<size> to increase
    size.
    When searching for this error i stumbled across
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132
    which pointed me to
    http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Common_Pr...lloc_too_small
    Adding vmalloc=192M to /boot/grub/menu.lst and rebooting solved the
    problem for me.

    The system in question has kernel-bigsmp and kernel-vmi installed. We
    only ever boot from kernel-vmi.

    When we installed the system (on OES2 SP1, i believe) it was a while
    ago, and kernel-vmi with clocksource=acpi_pm on the kernel command line
    was the only solution we could find to get reliable time. If there are
    updated best-practice documents, i'd be happy to hear about them.
    However, this is a production cluster and my boss is (rightly) rather
    reticent to make major changes.
    Paul
    the official Vmware paper on time is that IF you're using SLES 10.x 32-bit you will use VMI and NO kernel params (ie, get rid of the clockpit and clocksource=blah).
    But if 64-bit then you're okay.
    The easiest, IMO (especially with vmware) is to use the miggui (migration utility). That's how I'm converting all my 32-bit servers in vmware to 64-bit. Works quite well.

  • [SOLVED] Upgraded System, Openbox now won't load after log in

    I upgraded quite a few packages two days ago, none of which were openbox. When I rebooted, openbox didn't correctly load. I don't know how to describe the problem, but I can't seem to open anything from my menus, or run anything in openbox. However, my autostart file seems to load everything and wicd connects so I can use the ttys and browse.
    I don't know where to start troubleshooting this. I've looked back at my /var/cache/pacman/pkg/, sorted by time to see the last packages that got updated. I downgraded certain packages one by one to see if anything specifically broke my system, but I had no luck. I downgraded linux, linux headers, xorg, xorg-common, and udev.
    Thank you in advance.

    Yes, it is just autostart now ;-)
    I double checked, and all this seems to be fine. I haven't even touched openbox main configs since it updated back in August.
    Is there an error log for when I log in?
    I log in to openbox via slim, and then autostart should* start wicd, cairo-compmgr, nitrogen, conky, and tint2.
    My wicd client seems to load because I can get on the internet (via elinks), part of my conky loads but not my lua rings script; nitrogen, cairo, and tint2 don't seem to load. When I right click, I still have access to my OB menu, but cannot launch anything.

    Managing a box that's 1400+km away.  It was built with Arch circa 2007-03-28, so, needs an update.  Its version of pacman runs into issues, like current vs core and package content, etc.  The current version of pacman is dynamic, so, there's a cascade-of-dependencies to be sure:

    Some background:  There are actually several boxes that need help.  Each box is 1,000-3,000km away, so it's virtually impossible to bring them all in for proper upgrade.  The boxes were last updated years ago - some in 2006 and others in early 2007.  Many of the boxes are upgrade-broken.  That is, I tried to see what would happen if I just entered packman -Suy and when that failed tried other brute-force upgrade steps -- those failed as well, to the point where pacman is seriously nuked.
    Here's what I've done to successfully recover some of the boxes (/dev/sda3 is the root partition):
    * disable swap partition /dev/sda2 (about 1GB)
    * switch /dev/sda2 to ext3 format
    * mount /dev/sda2 to /mnt
    * download and expand core.db.tar.gz to /mnt/core
    * grab list of essential packages
    * look up each file format in /mnt/core/<package>/desc
    * download and expand each package into /mnt
    * mount /proc, /sys, /dev and /boot to /mnt
    * update /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/hosts.allow (e.g. sshd) and /etc/pacman.c/mirrorlist under /mnt
    * chroot into /mnt and run: pacman -Sfy --noconfirm $list
    * update /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/pacman.c/mirrorlist under /mnt (again because pacman -Sfy will have wiped them out)
    * chroot into /mnt to initialize root user's password
    * unmount /proc, /sys, /dev, /boot and /mnt
    * edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and switch to root=/dev/sda2
    * reboot
    Note: Un-tarring files into /mnt resolves pacman dependencies, but running pacman -Sfy --noconfirm $list properly sets up the package database, etc.
    When the system reboots, rootfs is now /dev/sda2, so the same steps are repeated but with /dev/sda3.  On the final reboot /dev/sda3 is again the root partition, /dev/sda2 goes back to being swap, the system has been upgraded and all is well in the land.

    I just upgraded twisted after having the same conflict, and deluge-gtk does not throw any errors and seems to work fine.
    Are you using the daemon+client or just deluge-gtk?
    Hmph... So renaming the .cache file and then upgrading solved everything. As much as I don't like to do that with conflicting files, it worked.

  • [SOLVED] Upgrading Linux 3.0.7-1 - 3.1-4 Breaks Wicd

    As the subject points out, upgrading Linux from 3.0.7-1 to 3.1-4 seems to break Wicd on my laptop. When I do this, no wireless networks show up and if I plug in ethernet, I cannot connect to it either. I solved the problem by blacklisting the wicd daemon, unblacklisting the network daemon, and uncommenting interface=eth0 in /etc/rc.conf, then rebooting, downloading the older kernel (3.0.7-1) which I had unfortunately deleted from /etc/pacman/pkg, and downgrading with pacman -U. I wonder if anyone else had similar trouble with this update....
    Last edited by tony5429 (2012-04-05 07:43:37)

    Can't connect to anything with Wicd anymore either.
    Using testing with:
    Atheros Communications AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 Gigabit or Fast Ethernet (rev b0)
    Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100
    WLAN networks will still show up and apparently connect — LAN ones won't — but Wicd fails to retrieve a IP as all dhcp clients consistently time out.
    Manual connection (dhcpcd for LAN + wpa_supplicant for WLAN) works just fine.
    edit: Doesn't appear to be caused by that kernel update on my system, though.
    edit2: Apparently Wicd's configuration files — which had worked perfectly for months — somehow turned insufficient. I had it create new ones and now it works again.

  • [SOLVED] upgraded linux 3.15.8-1 to 3.16.1-1 but uname showing 3.15

    I am hoping I am just missing something simple with this.
    After upgrading my laptop today from 3.15 to 3.16 my network adapter and Xorg stopped working.
    Network adapter is giving me the error:
    timed out wating for device sys-subsytem-net-devices-ens5.sevice
    And Xorg is giving me:
    (EE) No devices detected
    (EE) no screens found
    Well I have been googling around and checking out the Arch forums and came across a thread with the same Xorg error.  When I was typing my response to it I realized:
    uname -a
    Linux MacBook 3.15.8-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 1 08:51:42 CEST 2014 x84_64 GNU/Linux
    What did I miss that the new kernel is not loading?
    I am using Grub2 as a boot loader.
    Last edited by kramlegan (2014-08-15 14:42:00)

    I am unable to mount the boot partition now.
    I get the error
    mount: unknown filesystem type 'vfat'
    It looks like it has to do with running the incorrect kernel.
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=28437
    the key is that the kernel is updated ( e.g. from 2.23 -> 2.24 ).
    the vfat kernel module reside in difference directory (/lib/modules/XXXx-2.24/)after update.
    but the kernel version in /proc is the old one , until you reboot.
    if you don't reboot, when load the vfat module, the insmod will search the /lib/modules/`uname -r` , which can found nothing to load. well, what you get is nothing but some string like
    # modprobe vfat
    Any other suggestions on how to fix this?

  • [SOLVED] upgraded to Systemd, BCM4312 wireless no longer working

    Hello,
    I just finished upgrading my netbook to Systemd, and to my dismay the wireless stopped working.
    lspci -vnn | grep 14e4 reveals that I have a Broadcom BCM4312 LP-PHY rev01.
    I believe I was using the Linux kernel driver before with no issues, but now I have tried loading brcmsmac and it's not working.
    The kernel driver used to load automatically.
    iwconfig shows nothing with a wireless extension, and ip link doesn't even show my wireless NIC. I don't see any issues in journalctl as far as I can tell.
    B43 and SSB are blacklisted.
    Has anyone else had this problem since upgrading? Any ideas?
    I would prefer the linux driver vs broadcom-wl if it can be avoided.
    Thanks,

    Are your vendor ID:Product ID not 14e4:4315  ??  That device is supported by b43.  I would not consider using anything but the b43 driver.
    Regardless. be aware that your device probably changed names and may no longer be wlan0.  Perhaps that is your real problem.
    Were I you, I would reconfigure to again use b43, then check the output of ip link do find your device names.

    Hi, i am another guy who fail with upgrade pacman 4.1
    I has pacman 4.0.3-7 and for some dependancy (like yaourt), i need pacman 4.1
    He wasn't in system update, so i download it from git : git clone git://projects.archlinux.org/pacman.git pacman
    sh ./autogen.sh
    ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --enable-doc
    make -j8

    sudo pacman -Syu
    error: no usable package repositories configured.
    I backup my /etc/pacman.conf and use the new one like this topic : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 7#p1254497
    I check the version :
    Pacman v4.1.0 - libalpm v8.0.0
    I try to upgrade my DB
    sudo /usr/local/bin/pacman-db-upgrade
    ==> ERROR: /usr/local/var/lib/pacman/ is not a pacman database directory.
    The only solution i found right now is reinstalling arch linux o.0

    pacman-db-upgrade is a transition tool to convert pacman 3.x databases to pacman 4.x databases. Is there some guide that told you to use that to update the database?
    I pride myself on trying to be helpful on the forum, but you do not seem to have any idea of how package management works on Arch Linux. This is all covered in the wiki and on the forum. I really do not mean to be rude, but I believe that you would be better off with something else as you seem to just be naively trying random shit.
    If you really want to clean up the mess that you've made, uninstall the manually installed pacman, remove whatever AUR apps you have installed that prevent you from upgrading via pacman, then rebuild and re-install those apps after the upgrade.
    I also suspect that you are using Archbang or some other distro given that you seem to be new to the distro yet already have yaourt installed. If this is the case then you should direct yourself to their forum. This forum is for Arch Linux.
