[Solved] WPA TTLS EAP "Failed to get master session key"?

Summary: "WPA-Enterprise" (WPA2 with EAP-TTLS and inner PAP) was no longer working. Problem has been traced to the shitty Broadcom wireless card in my laptop. The Linux driver that Broadcom attempted to provide for it is a miserable failure. Switching to ndiswrapper and the windows driver solves this problem.

Sorry, just realized that the link I posted to the wpa_supplicant.conf file was broken... should be fixed now.
I don't think I can just generate the config file, because its not a simple WPA network.. there are several other options that must be set.  But I do think that its something wrong with the wpa_supplicant.conf file.  Because here is how they suggest to write it:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ap_scan=1
network={
ssid="wpa.mcgill.ca"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
auth_alg=OPEN
eap=PEAP
identity=""
password=""
found here: http://knowledgebase.mcgill.ca/al/12/14/1925.html#wpa
and here are the options they specify when connecting using ubuntu's network manager:
According to the sample wpa_supplicant.conf, my config file should look more like this:
network={
ssid="example"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
eap=PEAP
identity="[email protected]"
password="foobar"
ca_cert="/etc/cert/ca.pem"
phase1="peaplabel=1"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
priority=10

    There are many reasons to get this error, following may be one of them
    Scenario 1: Your directory server is not running
    Scenario 2: The naming service not initialized because it could not find the server entry in the platform list, especially if you are running SSL enabled server makes sure you have added the correcsoponding platfrom entry with correct protocol. IF you have forgot to add , you can add it from Directory adminconsole
    Scenario 3: In a multiserver installation sharing the same DS, you need to make sure you supply the correct encryption key of the server 1 while installing the second server. To quickly check both are matching check the serverconfig.xml of both servers should be identical
    Scenario 4: You have installed the Identity against existing provisoned DIT and selected NO for question 'You want to load IS comapliant DIT' during isntallation. In this case you need to go through the postinstallation steps before accessing the adminconsole

  • Get ssl session key after handshaking

    hi..i want to get ssl session key (after ssl handshaking) to insert in cookie (hashed using HMAC) to avoid reply attack. but i don't know how to get that from container (i used tomcat). what must i do?

    i mean reply attack for cookieDo you mean replay+ attack for cookie?
    I have read the paperWhat paper? Reference? URL?
    are you sure there is no way to get session key from container into servlet?I've answered that, but it isn't the container that has the session key. It is the SSLSession actually.

  • 802.11i RSN - Master Session Key Generation - How is this derived?

    Hi Guys,
    So,  When a STA has associated with an AP, and starts the EAP-TLS (or any other EAP method) process, it exhchages its certs mutually bla bla bla,  and all is good, we get an eap-sucess message.
    Now, in the radius portion of the eap-sucess message, the AS sends the AP (authentication) the MSK that the AS has generated by some means.
    Great,  AS has an MSK and now can derive the PMK
    Now the questions
    1. What about the supplicant, what does he use for the MSK?
    2. Does the AS send the supplicant the same MSK?
    3. If the supplicant and AS are generating different MSKs, is there some sort of link between them that when they dervive their PMKs, the work together?
    4. How is the actual MSK derived, is it from the eap-identity-request packets in the early stages of the eap exchange, of if using eap-tls, is another parameter taken from the certificate to generate the MSK?
    HELP PLEASE - ITS DRIVING ME MAD.
    Thanks to all,
    Ken

    I can see the post issuance of the application can be processed by creating SD for the application Developer and getting token from card isssuer. But how about if the Issuer itself want to allow post issuance using its ISD? will it need token? i don't think so because token is only for delegated management, what u think? Could u give me the examples how cardholder downloading applet from internet from the issuer? Thank you!!

  • 1494 ERROR: xa_open() - failed to get shared memory

    Hi,
    I am getting the following error when I try to create a Q Space with number of
    messages in it as 5,00,000. But if I try the same for 4,00,000 messages, it is
    successful.
    I checked the Shared memory in the machine and it is much more than it is required
    for 5,00,000 messages Q Space.
    Do I need to tune any other operating system parameter ?
    1494 ERROR: xa_open() - failed to get shared memory, key = key, errno = errno
    Description
    While opening the queue space, xa_open() was unable to get the necessary shared
    memory. The error number, errno, is printed in the message.
    Action
    This failure can be caused by a number of reasons but the most likely is that
    either the amount of shared memory requested would cause an operating system tunable
    to be exceeded (shared memory for the system or shared memory identifiers), or
    another application is using the same key. Determine and correct the problem.
    Thanks

    Peter,
    the errno value is 22
    thanks

  • How to get the system key in PL/SQL?

    Hi All,
    Is there a way to get master system key from PL/SQL?
    Thanks

    I am not sure about how to change SERVICE_NAME in PL/SQL Developer (if at all it can be done in that ), but you will have to change the SERVICE_NAME in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    1. Locate the entry for PLSExtProc in the file tnsnames.ora at:
    $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
    2. Change the SERVICE_NAME = ORCL
    3. Save and reconnect

  • [Solved] WPA connection problems - network was WEP encrypted.

    Hi all, and thanks in advance for reading.
    Tl;dr for the below: My card seems to work, but won't associate with the router using either netcfg or wpa_supplicant and I have no idea why. I have no graphical system to work from as yet.
    Basically, I've just installed my Arch system, and I'm trying to get the wireless working. I have two wireless cards, one internal (Atheros) and one USB (preferred - it's a Belkin F5D9050, v3). My router - a BT HomeHub - uses WPA-PSK encryption.
    For the moment, I'm trying to get the Belkin card - wlan1 - working as it gives better reception at home, so I'll use that in the examples, but I've had the same results with both so far.
    Running
    iwlist wlan1 scan
    shows my network, so I think the card itself is working ok.
    My netcfg profile reads:
    CONNECTION='wireless'
    INTERFACE='wlan1'
    SECURITY='wpa'
    ESSID='BTHomeHub2-2J6S'
    KEY='...'
    IP='dhcp'
    TIMEOUT=120 // Large timeout I know, but apparently it can make a difference.
    When attempting to connect with netcfg, I get the message 'WPA Authentication/Association failed'.
    Trying with wpa_supplicant.conf as below:
    network={
    ssid="BTHomeHub2-2J6S"
    proto=RSN // I've also tried WPA2
    key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
    pairwise=CCMP TKIP
    group=CCMP TKIP
    psk=[my passphrase as converted to hex by wpa_passphrase]
    Running
    wpa_supplicant -dd -B -Dwext -iwlan1 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
    produces output similar to this.
    I'm stuck. Any thoughts? Any and all help is appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    Stunts wrote:I also had that problem, altough on a different computer. And by themeing not working I mean "I can't change any dconf settings". It was due to ~/.cache being owned by root (go figure).
    Unfortunately this is not the case for me.  I erased the directory, just in case (perhaps this was stupid), but this does not help easier.  Somehow gnome-settings-daemon is not started, or crashes somewhere on the way.  When I start it manually, then it works.
    I have erased the color plugin (/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0/libcolor.so) as per advice somewhere else on this forum, but this did not help either.
    Most themes don't work on Gnome 3.2 tough due to an API change. You'll just have to wait for the theme authors to update them.
    I am using the default theme (I believe), so I think this is not the reason in my case .
    EDIT: It was not easy to figure out how to start up gnome-settings-daemon manually. So for the record, I found it in /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon (not in my PATH).

  • 802.1x port authentication failing after getting a access-accept packet

    Hi all,
    Im not 100% sure what the hell is going on here.
    Any idea's or help will be appreciated.
    Heres the topology.
    1 x windows 2012 NPS
    1x 3750X
    1x Windows 7 x64
    data flow
    <laptop> - - [gi 1/0/13]<3750X>[gi 1/0/48]- -[gi 5/39]<6513>[po 1] - - [po 4]<6509><5/1> - - <VMWARE>[NPS Server]
    The switch that is doing the authentication is the 3750X. Here is the IOS version.
    Switch Ports Model              SW Version            SW Image
    *    1 54    WS-C3750X-48       15.2(1)E              C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M
    A wireshark trace on the NPS server shows that the packets are arriving and being sent back
    Wireshark on a mirror of the trunk port connecting the 6513. It also shows packets being sent and arriving. access-accept packets are being recieved.
    As you can see in the debug output, the switch is getting a access-accept, then it is stating a AAA failure.
    here is a debug output as you plug in the laptop.

  • [SOLVED]dbus and systemd: "systemctl --user" gets "Connection refused"

    Hi,
    I want to enable some systemd user service. Here is what I get
    $ LANG=C systemctl --user
    Failed to get D-Bus connection: Connection refused
    $ echo $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
    unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-RboLZS2wF3,guid=feb8bd85248906d12a826acd54e3c4ad
    I don't believe I've ever touched dbus, so I'm a bit lost. There's the following line in my ~/.xinitrc:
    exec dbus-launch xmonad
    Seems like I'm not the only one with trouble on that topic, but I could not solve my problem.

    I just updated my iphone to ios7 and I keep getting stuck at the 'Set up your iPhone' screen. I click 'Restore from Itunes Backup', but it only ends up restarting after restoring and fails to get past the 'Set up your iPhone' screen. Any ideas?

    Normally, I would suggest restoring the iPad and uninstall and reinstall iTunes but you have done both of those things - more times than you ever imagined!
    Have you thought about turning auto syncing off?
    Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    If you do this you can backup the iPad right away before it syncs. You may want to go into all of the iTunes tabs and just make sure that all of the current content on the iPad is selected to sync before you actually do sync.
    This doesn't solve the problem, but it would prevent the automatic sync and erasing content. Hopefully, in the next few days- when iOS 5 is released - you will also be relieved of this weird iPad behavior - since the iOS devices are supposed to become PC free.
    BTW - and this is no excuse for what you are experiencing, but I have found that some of the game apps that I had on my iPad turned out to be quite troublesome and after I removed them, my problems went away. I know that is almost sacrilege with regard to the Angry Birds addiction .... But I'm just saying ...

  • Systemctl error: Failed to get D-Bus connection

    Problem migrating server to pure systemd. Unable to start stop or restart any of my enabled services.  Every command to systemctl except enable/disable results in:
    "Failed to get D-Bus connection: No connection to service manager."
    I dunno why enable/disable would work but not status, etc...
    Quick note on my environment:
    Arch installed on my remote server hosted by linode.com
    So, my only access is remote ssh.  This is purely a webserver/mailserver type box.
    Here's what I did so far:
    1) installed systemd and depys according to this guide https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd
    2) enabled all services from my rc.conf DAEMONS according to this guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Daemons_List
    systemctl enable {foo}.service
    3) removed initscripts with
    pacman -R initscripts
    and installed systemd-sysvcompat w/
    pacman -S systemd-sysvcompat
    4) rebooted
    5) I can confirm that "cat /proc/1/comm" does in fact output "systemd"
    Command " sudo ps aux | grep dbus " gives me:
    dbus 1781 0.0 0.2 3076 1352 ? Ss 12:33 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --system --address=systemd: --nofork --nopidfile --systemd-activation

    Solved! Had to update kernel. Solution was in /var/log/kernel.log all along:
    Nov 27 14:43:56 xxxx kernel: systemd[1]: CONFIG_CGROUPS was not set when your kernel was compiled. Systems without control groups are not supported. We will now sleep for 10s, and then continue boot-up. Expect breakage and please do not file bugs. Instead fix your kernel and enable CONFIG_CGROUPS. Consult http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/cgroups-vs-cgroups.html for more information.
    systemd man page that: "systemd uses control groups to effectively keep track of processes. Control group information is maintained in the kernel, and is accessible via the file system hierarchy (beneath /sys/fs/cgroup/systemd/)"  I ran the command
    findmnt | grep /sys/fs/cgroup
    but it returns an empty result...
    I did not see kernel version as a requirement anywhere in docs...
    To check your kernal version use command:
    uname -r
    From the main page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd
    systemd is a system and service manager for Linux that ... uses socket and D-Bus activation for starting services ... keeps track of processes using Linux control groups ...
    From wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cgroups
    cgroups (control groups) is a Linux kernel feature to that was started in 2007 ... and merged to kernel version 2.6.24 ...
    I had problems w/ kernel 2.6.39 which turned out to be a deprecated kernal on my linode. My box had like 300+ days of uptime and never had a need to reboot before the change to systemd. Lucky for me, linode made it stupid easy to update the kernel and i was back on track. systemd is cool. worth the journey. thanks!

  • (Mobile Infrastructur)Failed to get hierarchy group elements fromMiddleware

    When iam configuring the Mobile Infrastructure and clicked on Hierarchy Grouping i got the following error.
    Error:Failed to get hierarchy group elements from middleware. Reason: Could not connect to middleware
    Could anyone tell meaning the above statement and why it is occuring.
    Secondly when iam trying to start the MI Webconsole from the below URL, I was getting Page Cannot be Displayed Error.
    https://server:50300/me/WebConsole/login. Can anyone tell why this error is coming.

    Dear Sankar,
    SAP wants you to use the NWA Mobile Administrator and not the old WebConsole. As for the error, I think it should be solved by now, considering you solved other NWA issues by either using solutions of redeploying sapjra, re-running of NWA templates under Deploy and Change or by returning back to your original NWA connected ABAP client (as is evident from your other thread).
    Regards,
    Veera
