[SOLVED] "X font server" - where are you in arch?

can't find xfs/xfstt or fslsfonts and associated utilities to run/manage a font server.
tried looking everywhere - main repos, aur, googling etc...
the only mention of "font server" is found in wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fonts
pkgfile returns nothing for xfs,xfstt,fslsfonts
can anybody help me find those?

As far as packages go, debian stable (wheezy) provides https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/xfs and https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/xfstt, so do most of rpm based distros.
As Trilby suggested, maybe it'd be possible to achieve the same with Arch, without using xfs/xfstt, so let me briefly describe what i'm trying to do.
I'm trying to run a persistent (hibernate-able) X session, using xpra with xephyr and xdmx, connecting to lightdm via xdmcp - basically it goes something like this:
$xpra start :100 --start-child="Xephyr :101 -ac +xinerama +bs -screen 800x600 -wr -keybd ephyr,,,xkbmodel=evdev"
$xpra start :200 --start-child="Xephyr :201 -ac +xinerama +bs -screen 800x600 -wr -keybd ephyr,,,xkbmodel=evdev"
$xpra start :300 --start-child="Xephyr :301 -ac +xinerama +bs -screen 800x600 -wr -keybd ephyr,,,xkbmodel=evdev"
$Xdmx :10 -display :101 -display :201 -display :301 +xinerama -input :101 -param XkbRules evdev -ac -query localhost
xpra is used for network transparency, xephyr for compatibility and xdmx to actually create a single desktop, xdmcp is enabled in lightdm.
Everything works, except for "-query localhost" with xdmx. Apparently there's a long standing bug/feature of using lightdm with xdmx, where xdmx is incapable of displaying fonts, if provided by client side, ie. appending "-fontpath /usr/share/fonts/[blah blah]".
On debian i worked around it with "-fontpath tcp/10.0.10.10:7101" and everything was running just the way i wanted to, with xfs[tt] and friends.
Now, after switching to Arch, i discovered that xfs is not provided anywhere. Perhaps there's a different way of achieving the same funtionality i'm looking for. I welcome any suggestions. Meanwhile i'll try packaging xfs[tt] myself.
And thanks for your replies people!
P.S. current xfstt is developed/maintained here - http://www.hadrons.org/software/xfstt/

  • Don't announce new products and never release them - Media Server, where are you?

It was over a year ago that Verizon and Motorola announced the new media server technology - there was a video , a booth, the whole kit and kaboodle- a year later we still have a dual tuner DVR and a zillion limitations every other vendor has already solved...time to move on from Verizon I am sure any other vendor will want my money...
    Sincerely,
    Completely Dissatisfied Customer

Its one VMS(dvr) or two VMS setup + IP boxes.  Not a 12 tuner DVR.

  • When the system status says icloud is OK but it reports "encountered an error when connecting to the server", where do you report the problem, or how do you connect?

When the system status says icloud is OK but logon reports "encountered an error when connecting to the server", where do you report the problem, or how do you connect?

Yes i am hoping staff here will look into things, even if i can not get the speeds back what i previously had for near 6 months it would be nice to know why i can not and why the download has dropped by around 10Mb and why my upload is now inconsistant.
Ironically the post concerned got edited because i actually posted the full rather silly reply the Indian call centre made babbling on about down rates rather than the uprate i queried with them.
Bit of a shambles really no real way on BTs web site to contact anyone with regards to broadband issues.
The form which you kindly suggested and i appreciated your help ended up in the hands of someone who either did not bother to read the query or just had such a poor grasp of English they did not understand the query.
Pretty pathetic really when BT are the largest telco in the UK. I think ill be taking my broadband business elsewhere regardless at the end of my 18 month contract, while im sure staff here are wonderful and may even yet help me, i do not particularly want to go through the almost like pulling teeth pain of getting any future issue looked at.
They are great at quickly fixing voice line problems and have a great test on their site. Broadband side of things and support for that though seems a shambles.

  • @ Nokia - where are you?

OK, so as this is the official Nokia Support Discussions forum I'm wondering  where is the input from Nokia addressing all the many, many complaints from disgruntled owners of Nokia devices after this screwed-up Belle 'update'?

Even if I'm not as satisfied with Belle (yet) as with Anna or previous Eseries platforms, I don't think it's fair to complain so much and blame Nokia for Belle, being "horrible", "non-user friendly", "step backward" and other negative adverbs.
Belle's been out for 2 weeks and getting used to the new UI takes some time. Some may like it immediately (I do), some need some time, others don't like it. There will always be people complaining. These same people will "not buy Nokia ever again" and will rather buy iPhone. Well, let's wait for a week and they'll login to the Apple's discussion forum asking "how is it possible that my XY app doesn't sync with my WZ software" or "this is much easier to do with Nokia, hey Apple, where are you guys?". Finally, "I overpayed this iStuff and expected it to work. I'll never buy an iPhone again.". That's life.
Think about - it's a nice gesture from Nokia to offer a FREE upgrade to Belle. It was OUR decision to upgrade, Nokia didn't made us to do it. Perhaps it would be wiser to make Belle payable (couple of euros, make it 20). THEN people should read the specs, what it features and decide if it fulfills the expectations. Making a formal complaint (reclamation) would be reasonable since you payed for it. And Nokia would benefit $$ and could actually pay the SW engineers from this income. But it was for free.
Personally, I like the interface and overall performance - it's smooth(er), battery life is extended, it's easier to control the BT, 3G, Wifi as some examples. I realized some bugs but am sure they'll fix them. I'm annoyed about Wifi bug, absence of remaining characters in SMS messages, but I think I'll survive.
I'm sure "Nokia" is following our discussions but releasing fixes every week is not even possible, reasonable nor feasible. Take time, get a buglist not only from 100 non-satisfied users but from larger pool of users and focus on the most important ones. These phones must work in Germany, California, Hongkong, Christchurch, Novosibirsk, Tahiti, Patagonia,... different languages, fonts, mobile network properties, operators -- you know what I mean?

  • Smg123 where are you?

    smg123 where are you?
I have a question related to post:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=31&thread=347231
Was the dll ever completed and is it available?
I know smg123 changed usernames last year because of password problems...but I haven't seen that username (smg123NewAndImproved) since December.

although i still would like to see if that dll was ever made, I was able to do what I needed on my own, creating a shortcut in windows from java.

  • HT3529 where are you smiley faces and symbols for texting on the iphone 5c?

Where are the smiley faces and symbols for texting?

On the emoji keyboard. Go to Settings>General>Keyboard>Add Keyboard and select emoji. Then you will have a small globe key near the number key on the left side of the keyboard. This will allow for selecting between the regular keyboard and the emoji keyboard.

  • [SOLVED] Where are you, iwconfig?

I've followed the Beginners Guide very closely (plus using various internet sources) and I've got as far as running X successfully. The computer running arch (IBM T60) can access internet flawlessly with wire, and so I thought I'd set up wireless now that I'm about to get things going. Unfortunately, as the title says, it seems iwconfig is not on my system. Shouldn't it be in the wireless-tools package? I've downloaded that twice, atleast.
Wireless card is the Intel PRO 3945ABG [GOLAN] (from "lspci | grep -i net") using the drivers from "iwlwifi-3945-ucode". It starts using "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up" and the little wireless icon, right below the screen, lights up. but when I'm about to connect using wconfig I get something like "-bash: iwconfig: command does not exist".
Could the package mirrors have anything to do with this? I've read on several occasions that some mirrors aren't up-to-date, or that they are missing stuff. In my /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist, i've got the mirror ftp://mirror.archlinux.fi/$repo/os/i686 uncommented and nothing else.
    Thankful for any help!

Hi, iwconfig is in the wireless_tools package which can be founn the core repository. Have you installed it with "pacman -Sy wireless-tools" or did you just downloaded the package? "pacman -Qii wireless_tools" shows also if the package is installed on your system.

  • Time machine didn't backup all of my fonts. Where are they?

    Hi.
My Macbook was getting really slow, so I took it to the genius bar, where they wiped it and returned everything to factory settings to hopefully solve the speed issure. It's a one year old computer that shouldn't behave this way. Anyway, I backed everything up using Time Machine before my harddrive was wiped. I was told to bring things back to the computer manually, to avoid whatever problem existed on the hardrive. Everything has been brought back in place except for my fonts. I went into the fonts folder in Library in Time Machine, and the fonts there are just a fraction of the fonts I had before. I've been going back and forth between different backup versions, used Tinker Tool to try to uncover invisibale files, but they are simply not there. About 100 fonts have gone missing, some of which I paid a lot of money for. I'm a graphic designer, and working with fonts is my bread and butter. I would be eternally grateful for some help. Can my fonts be restored somehow? Am I looking in the wrong place?
    Thanks,
    Stina

Make your user library visible in Finder and see if they are in the Library/Fonts.
In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Utilities/Terminal.
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates.

  • IOmega drive - where are you?!

    Hello,
I hope someone can help me 1) solve this problem and 2) give me some tips on how to avoid if it was self induced.
My iOmega external HDD won't automatically mount. It does not display in Disk Profiler. In System Profiler I can see an unknown Firewire device which I believe is it. It has data on it currently so I'd prefer not to have to format it! I tried searching some other threads but they tend to be very specific.
    Thanks!

    Hi Marcus,
Thanks for the opportunity to explain the system
    Points:
Only 1 person can get a 10 (best answer)
But  2 people can receive a 6 (very helpful answer)
while limitless people can receive a 2 (helpful answer)
You can change the ranking and designation of your participants but only if you demote, once the 2 people receiving 6 points are defined.

You are so correct, Marcus, this isn't a question you posed, so there is no "complete" answer, but I wanted to highlight an especially articulate one.  You have generated a very stimulating discussion thread, here, by the way, so thanks.  Anyone answering so fully and well (of course complete is subjective) should be rewarded.  Another way to have that happen, is for a post, which has so much content, to "evolve" into a blog or an article.
We really encourage participation this way through the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/submitcontent">Submit Content page</a>.  There you can see an application to <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/sdnweblogs/becomeblogger">blog</a> or even <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/contentsubmission">Submit your article</a>.  Although this says SDN, (because BPX is still sneak preview) this is a good way to contribute articles and blogs.

  • JApplet ... where are you?

    hi
    i've the following problem
i'm developing an applet based on JApplet. When i try to load it from a tomcat server nothing happen except that on the server stdout, where happen
    Ctx (/opm) : 404 R(javax.swing.JApplet.class)
...looks like i doesn't find swing library
    can somebody help me?
    thanks Max

    hi
    what browser you use?
genernally speaking, most browser support the AWT but few support the SWING.because the JApplet is in the swing library, the browser which don't support the swing can't find the japplet class.
but you can download java plug-in to your browser to support and test your Japplet.

  • 10.8.4 where are you

cannot wait for 10.8.4 to be released cause 10.8.3 is not working on mine machine so frustrating so best option now to wait any one give me a clue when the next version comes out so my computer works a1 ok again?

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
Give details of the problem. Don't just state your conclusion as to what's causing it. A remark such as "I think I have a virus," or "I got an error," or "X doesn't work" conveys no information. If X did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, include details.
Post in the most relevant discussion area. Usually that means the area for the type of Mac you're using, if the problem is hardware-related, or for the OS X version you’re running, if it’s more software-related. Some other Apple products, such as Safari, iTunes, and iPhoto, have their own forums.
If asking about third-party software, specify what it is, the website where you got it (if applicable), and what version you have. Ask the developer for help first. Include the results of that contact in your message: what you were told and what you did.

I do not start dbus manually anywhere on my system except for launching lightdm and thermald through a systemd service.

I will mark this as solved for now. In order to minimise the running dbus sessions, I switched back from ldm to startx and also removed the pulseaudio autostart from /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/ since I want to control myself when pulseaudio starts the dbus sessions.
This is how it looks now with X running and udisks2/gvfs enabled dbus session.

  • Help!!! SECURITY GURU where are you?

I am searching for a security guru that understands protecting the privacy of MACS. Through the server and to prevent any hackers or malware.
For the past few months, I've been experiencing very suspicious activity....that someone has been reading my emails through my gmail account. I've ran Nortons, macscan and so on....but nothing has appeared and I am concerned that they are hacking in through our server. I am part of a very small business that is susceptible to fraud and theft of information.
So here goes my interpretation of some of the things I view in System Preferences:
    File Sharing: OFF
When reviewing the NETWORK which is through the ETHERNET, I'm noticing a few DNS SERVERs, 2 different ones to to be exact. THere is also a different IP address then what my gmail tells me. Is this weird?
The IP address is configured through DHCP, there is also a number for the Subnet Mask....which I do not know what that is. There is also another number for the router.
How do I check to ensure these are secure and only visible on my end?
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to anyone that can lend some great advice on protecting my email and computer data.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I may not be the best-informed about Mac security, but I'll offer my thoughts until someone else can respond.
What have you seen that gives you that impression? If your Gmail account has been compromised, the first thing I'd do is to change not only the password, but also security questions, if any.
I am concerned that they are hacking in through our server.
What server would that be? What software is it running?
    File Sharing: OFF
    That's good.
When reviewing the NETWORK which is through the ETHERNET, I'm noticing a few DNS SERVERs, 2 different ones to to be exact.
Having two DNS servers is common. Do the IP addresses of those servers start with the same numbers?
There is also a different IP address then what my gmail tells me.
IP address of what? What do you mean when you imply that Gmail is telling you about IP addresses?
The IP address is configured through DHCP, there is also a number for the Subnet Mask....which I do not know what that is.
Any networked device will have a subnet mask, which describes how many addresses are used for that LAN. For example, a common subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 means that there are 254 IP addresses on the subnet, from x.x.x.1 through x.x.x.254.
There is also another number for the router.
    That's normal.
Is the IP address of your Mac "private" (in the range of 10.0.x.x, 172.16.x.x, or 192.168.x.x) or it is "public" (anything else)?
How do I check to ensure these are secure and only visible on my end?
    "These" would be what, exactly?
By the way, the shorthand term for Macintosh isn't an acronym, so it would be "Mac", not "MAC".

  • Hard Disk Memory - where are you?

I have the MacBook Air a few months now. I've had the error message 'Start up Disk Full', so I cleared off old vids etc and got a few clean up tips from YouTube videos. That's ok for now.
I've used Disk Discovery to see what level of memory is taken up in files on the hard disk. From what I can gather 37Gb is taken up by everything - user and system files etc. My system resources say I have 12Gb free and the HD is 64Gb. I can't uncover where the other 15Gb is.
So, my question is two fold - How much of my 64Gb should be taken up by system files (I assumed about 10Gb) and where can I locate the remainder of my memory?
All hints & tips welcome. I want to fill up a 32Gb iPod from my iTunes.
    Ta,
    Phil.

If you go to the Apple Menu, select "About This Mac", and click "Storage", you'll get a sense of how much everything is taking up on your Mac.
The system is going to take up about 10-15GB of space.
Here are some hints to eek out some more storage.
Download and run Monolingual. It is free and will remove all the languages you are not going to use within the OS. For me, I only speak and use English, so I removed everything but English and saved about 1.5GB of storage space.
I purchased Clean My Mac 2 and recovered almost 5GB of storage by removing junk like log files, etc. that build up within OS X. It also has a nice feature which will show you all the files that haven't been used in a long time and/or take up a lot of space. There are ways to do this manually in Finder, but this program makes it a lot more straightforward.
After installing applications I look in the app folders for crap like sample files, readme files, legal files, etc. - all the crap that gets installed that you're never going to actually use or look at. That isn't a ton of space, but good for a few hundred MB. Every little bit counts in my book.
Always keep about 10% of your storage free. The OS constantly writes/deletes information and the less free space it has to work with the slower it will perform.
    Hope this helps!
