Some complete idiot!

Well I'm on a job where I'm preparing a projection mapping installation and I've been given a quad core Mac G5 for a few weeks. I have admin privileges, so I've put the projection mapping software in, and all my favorite widgets and plugs. All running smoothly. Until this evening (working late) when I have Media encoder open, and then the screen goes blank.
Some idiot has unplugged me. "Oh it'll be alright." he says.
It's not. Every time I try starting encoder up, I get a message saying that I should run the application that installed encoder. Other stuff starts up Ok.
If I take this back to IT they'll probably want to wipe the disk and put it back to a fresh install. This could cost me hours.
However, someone said that the prog is probably looking for a specific hidden file that isn't there, and all I have to do is delete some other file... but he couldn't rememebr any more.
Any thoughts?

And if it doesn't? IT could do a complete re-install of CS6, but I think they'd rather reload the whole disk image. I'd like to avoid that.
What if I took in my own CS6 install disk..? Could I re-install CS6 and it would remember the old serials and not prompt me for those?

  • Complete idiot on my team.

    I have a developer on my team, and I can't convince him to program in a clean manner. I have spoke to my manager about it, and my manager is just useless.
    Anyways, he has this fascination of using the GUI builder tool for swing panels, which produces pretty horibble looking code. For example there is one section of our application which is a JTabbpane contain 6 tabs, and tables under each tab. The class that has been built is over 7000 lines long, and is a complete mess.
    How would you guys go about convincing this guy that java is an object oriented language, and that does not mean one object. I mean I am blue in the face with him and he is a complete muppet!!! Its funny, I want to rewrite the whole thing but I know he will only start crying to our manager.

    In Firefox I did a search for Alaksen ( wildlife refuge). The search results were appropriate. Clicking on any site in the Google search diverted me to various commercial websites that were completely unrelated to Alaksen.

    Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:

    I tired to call my mum from my contacts and when she answered it was not my mum but some butch woman saying she was at mcdonalds and asking who i thought it was. I tried again and i got through to my mum who was at work. The same thing happened to my brother when he was on the phone to his girlfriend the call dropped and he found himself talking to a man.

  • Apologies for complete 'idiot' question..

    Been sort of thrown in at the deep end with this app really, but hey ho..
    I have a nice crisp company vector logo that I wish to import into FCP.
    Saved it as a .ai file and it comes in with the white page background & logo in the middle - no good!
    Plonked it into a photoshop file, saved it as a .psd, imported into FCP. This time I get the psd layers showing in the timeline BUT with a nice black box round the vector info - again not good.
    Am I presuming too much here and hoping for a simple answer?
    I completed a 3 day Apple course yesterday and we never got onto this subject, and subsequent google searches haven't really unearthed much.

    Yeah, this is one of those things - as you tell by the range of suggestions - where there is no simple, single workflow.
    If you need to maintain the scalable nature of the vector artwork, drop your .ai file into Motion and work on it there. Once you've corrected things in Reveal Source Media - press Shift-F after you've dropped your file in and uncheck the Fixed Resolution box in the Media tab of the Inspector - you will be able to grow/shrink the file as necessary without the nasty pixelation.
    But since you're new to Final Cut Studio and are probably just looking to keep things as simple as possible for a while, next time try a File > Save for Web and Devices out of Illustrator using the PNG-24 preset (transparency should be toggled on by default). It'll be all good when you import the .png file into FCP.

    I'm in a bind. We bought MS Expression Web to create a
    website. But the template we purchased is Flash based and came in
    two formats: SWF and FLA. I learned that I have to use a program
    like Adobe Flash CS3 Professional in order to tweak the template to
    custom design. However, I'm lost. I just need access to the text on
    each frame in order to change the text. How though?

    This isn't going to make you feel any better, but for what
    it's worth,
    I've seen many, many, many Flash templates over the years.
    I've helped
    dozens of people update their templates (they paid me to do
    this) -- which
    were sold as "easy to update" -- because in all these years,
    I haven't seen
    a single template yet that was easy to work with. I obviously
    can't claim
    that 3rd party templates are 100% bad, but I wouldn't
    personally bet a dime
    on finding a good one.
    They look beautiful out of the box, don't get me wrong ...
    but every one
    I've seen has been slapped together with bubble gum and duct
    tape on the
    inside. The ActionScript they use tends to be very obscure,
    unnecessarily
    scattered among unnecessarily nested timelines, disorganized,
    and poorly
    documented (if at all).

    Text is going to appear inside something called a text
    field, which is
    accessible/editable with the Text tool in the Tools panel.
    Make sure your
    layers are unlocked (look for the lock icon for each later in
    the Timeline
    panel) and select your text fields to get started. The
    editable file is the
    FLA file.

  • I feel like a complete idiot....  JDK for Linux question....

    I downloaded the JDK for Linux... and I have a small problem...
    It says "permission denied" when I attempt to access the file..
    Now I imagine this might not have anything to do with Java... ((Opening the file as root does nothing either.. I get the same response))...
    It just seems really odd that "root" would lack permission to do this, so I am wondering if there is something I am missing in this...
    (PS- I can download and install the JDK for Win95 just fine :-) )

    It would seam that you do not have the right permissions set on the executable but your question was to vauge witch file are you trying to access when you receive this message? what group are you in ?

    so i decided to give palm yet another chance and i got screwed once again.  i just got my TREO PRO in the mail (of course no carriers have it i guess they already knew palm was a waste of time).  so i'm playing with the phone (nothing really impressive, my HTC touch pro blows it out of the water) & i get a call coming in that i want to silence, not "ignore"...silence.  here's the difference for those that don't get it.  "silence" means while you hit a button (side volume for instance) the phone's ringer & vibrate feature stop while the phone goes thru its normal 4 ring cycle & then goes to voice mail.  "ignore" sends a caller straight to voice mail & the caller knows that they have been ignored.
    is palm serious???  they actually let this phone come out???  i don't even think they view this as a glitch.  when i called about this thinking to myself that there was no way this could actually be, they know about it and it doesn't even seem like a problem to them.
    PALM I QUIT!!!!!!  you jipped me for the last time.  this phone is going back as soon as i can get it back in the packaging it came in.  the only reason that i was willing to give it a try once more was because i want a open face qwerty keyboard, touchscreen, windows mobile device and palm is the only one that has that, but i will sacrifice one of those and get a phone that the developers truly took their time to release a phone without MAJOR OVERSIGHTS!

    I have been completely Ripped off by these People and they do not care. None of them. I have spoke to multiple customer service reps on the phone. None of them gave a toss about me. They don't care. Spent hours on the phone to them being passed around and told the same lines over and over again which they are clearly reading from a script. Very annoyed.
    Basically I moved house in december 2013 and arranged a move house package. was meant to be adtivated jan 6 2014. waited in all day and no one showed up. not even a phone call or anything. turned out the bt engineer didnt bother coming as the cables werent even laid yet by my house. (brand new housing estate). yet they never bothered to tell me this, they just let me wait inside like a complete idiot all day long. by now we have been without internet/phone since december 19th 2013. we were then told the cables were being laid the next wednesday.
    when wednesday came they sent an email saying they had arranged our engineer visit and that we had to wait 7 days or something stupid as thats the time it takes when initiating a new order. even though our order was cancelled so i would have thought they'd have not made us wait the 7 days again. of course our internet did not arrive 7 days later as it turned out the engineer hadnt even put in a mastersocket or anything. NOTHING. no engineer came to our house at all at any time. we had no service until Jan 22nd the day they activated it at the exchange or whatever. Thats an entire MONTH with no service. oh and we still couldnt use it as none of the sockets had been wired to the master socket. it just had a plain blank socket on it. but hey it was active. so I rang up to order an infinity package (upgrade) and was promised the engineer would come and install our sockets and stuff. he finally arrived on Feb 11th.
    Hurray we had service. Only about 7 weeks we waited. But then I rang up to ask about a refund on the bill since we had not used anything as it wasn't there AND it wasn't OUR fault. But this is when I was passed around like a parcel in a childrens game. No one cared. So I ended up paying £51 for NOTHING. Oh btw our bill is SUPPOSED to be £42 so I was charged extra actually. They refunded me the £10 extra and thought I should be grateful or something.
    Would you like to pay £42 for nothinG? NO. Who would? Well I DID! But then the real joke arrived a few hours ago. I receive my next bill. £74. They are now toying with me. I have become a complete joke to them or something. It is absolutely pathetic. An extra £34. Why? I have no idea?????? I wish I knew why they were torturing me like this. Upon inspection of the bill it looks as though they have charged me for two packages in one month. the original broadband package AND the upgraded infinity package. (now the reason i started off with a lesser package was because it took a while for my brand new address to be recognised as available for infinity).
    Anyway also on the bill they have added the £10 that I was supposedly REFUNDED last bill. NOPE. not refunded at all. instead they have carried it forward. here is the pasted quote:

  • Alright, some serious problems (WRT54GS)

    Alright, here's my problem. I've tried searching many places and haven't really been able to get an answer to help me. I hope someone here can change my luck. Ok, so, I got this WRT54GS just a few days ago. Here's my problem. I tried to install it using the CD that came with the router, to no avail. With everything the way it is now, I can connect to the internet. The problem is that during the CD installation, I can't get past the step where I have to detect the router.
    Everythings connected properly, but it won't work. After searching for a bit, I found out that you could also install it without the CD using the web based utility. Unfortunately, when I tried to access 192.168.1.1 I get a, "Error loading page" rather than a password prompt. The main thing I want to use this for is Wifi for my Wii and DS, as well as something for my laptop to connect to. All 3 can find the router when I do a search for access point, all 3 can connect to the router. None of them can get on the internet from that point onwards though.
    I'm using an ambit cable modem router with cable internet. My OS is Windows XP SP2. I don't know if either of these helps, but I figured it might be useful.
    I've tried resetting several times, unfortunately to no avail. I'd like it if someone can help me out.
    I'm not a complete idiot, so if you need a screenshot of anything, and I can follow directions pretty well, so anything to help is appreciated.

    I guess I'm not alone, I've got the same thing going with the same router, but DSL modem. I also remembered from previous router to not use the CD but the web-based configuration technique. Incidentally, did you maybe follow some directions that had you save to 192.168.2.1 instead of the default 192.168.1.1 (which my DSL modem is using).... Hope someone can give us all a magic bullet - there are other threads with the same general problem, and I gotta tell you it sucks having to work from home on a 49.2 dial up session...I have no clue as to why I can't plug the DSL line directly into the laptop and get a better connection. Sorry, no help to you other than commiseration....

    Don't reimstall.
    The most simple fix is to change the menu BG – even if you cancel whatever changes you make – in the export dialogue box.
    Problem is that fixes only some of the -29  problems.
    There is a Create Disc solution that works for many others.
    Let us know.

    I was trying to access an old website link I had for easter eggs on DVDs, and I got a message come up that said I had been chosen to do a 30 second survey on how I use Firefox. Additionally, the page played a .wav file that stated I would get a free gift if I completed this survey. After answering the four questions, the page offered multiple "free" items, including some random anti-wrinkle cream and a free Samsung phone. Not being a complete idiot, I immediately started a computer scan with Avast, and did not click on any of the "offers."     The viewer and canvas have apparently decided to flip to white and remain there. But first, they decided they'd rather display a strange, posterized/solarized version of whatever clip was loaded at the time.
    Viewer prefs set properly to RGB
    Background set to black.
    Changing display prefs from millions to thousands then back again - fail.
    Clean reinstall of FC Studio - fail.

    Right, but a restart of FCP or the Mac might also be part of that debug just to rule out all possibilities.

    Of course. Reinstalling Apple software is the LAST thing we'd suggest. Well, it's the last thing I would suggest. It is almost always a complete waste of time for a long list of reasons but mainly for only one: unlike Windows apps, Apple software just doesn't work that way.

    Debugging your particular issue is not going to be easy. Trying to figure out if it's FCP, QT, your graphics card, your monitor, or some other weird and obscure setting is a question, largely, of having a good feel for your system's behaviors and application inventory and history.
    Stick with it, we're going to be asking you some really idiotic questions and asking you to perform some really lame tests.
