Some ideas

Hello Java users,
I have a small task which i have to do..I have to find statistical answers based on a paragraph which is held on another file...I have managed to set a startpoint which has enabled me to implement a contents page which is based on the paragragh..I have set myself the target of finding the following1/The total of non space characters
2/A count of the number of uppercase characters
3/A count of the number of lowercase characters
4/The most frequently occuring uppercase character
5/The most frequently occuring lowercase vowel
6/The average number of vowels as a percentage of the total number of non space characters
7/The average number of consonants as a percentage of the total number of non space characters.
However can anyone give me any ideas how to start it off..My programming is still at the basic stage, so relatively speaking i should probably use basic java code..Any ideas and tips would be appreciated..I am basically looking for a base to start, then hopefully the rest will become more apparent..

for 2/A
for counting no of uppercase characters u should check
just try API for right syntax
isUpeercase(){
then increment a counter
at the end of file display that counter
same for 3/A with lowercase
to check the most occouring upercase u will have to store all the uppercase characters in an array and a counter in second array at the same location of existing uppercase letter. after u will have all uppercase letters and their no. of occurance .. compare the arrays all elements with each other then u will find the biggest no. after that u can get the location of that no. and then find the letter from th esame location the second uppercase letter array this way u can get the most occoured uppercase letter
to find a vowel u can compare the reading string character with vowel letters like

cnte++;
}else
if (input.equals("i")){
cnti++;
}else
if (input.equals("o")){
cnto++;
}else
if (input.equals("u")){
cntu++;
after this compare the counters and u will find th emost occuring vowel
coudnt understand ur question 6 and 7 explain them a bit further plz then i will try those as well
