Some pdfs work others don't

I am working with ApEx 3.0 and BI Publisher standalone on Windows. I have a couple of reports that create PDF's (or other output formats) just fine, but I have at least two reports that comes up with an empty PDF and an error message stating "could not open _file_name because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged".
I have tried changing to A4/points but this didn't change anything. I took one of the reports, but the data on apex.oracle.com and everything worked. Apex.oracle.com appears to still be on 3.0.0.00.20 so I am a little lost on why the PDF worked there and not here.
<br/ >
I don't see any errors in the BI Pub application logs and there is no error messages in the PDF if I save them and open under a text editor.
I am sure that it is something silly, but I am missing it right now.
Thanks, Tony

The 3.01 patch helped some. There are still some reports that don't work. The one specific report is a report with repeating header breaks. I'll try to post more specifcs later.
One of the reports that is still failing is a bit complicated. The query for the region contains calls to a functions that return html tables.
select col1, col2, col3,
f_table1(w,x) col4,
f_table2(y,z) col5
from ....
So in this case, col4 would contain an entire html table,
<table><tr>.....</table>
And then in the output, everything is "custom". I only show one column, and use the column formatting to create the entire output. For example.
Column 1 formatting
<table border="0">
<tr style="background-color:lightgrey;">
<th style="text-align:right;">Facility:</th><td>#COL1#</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th style="text-align:right;">Facility Type:</th><td>#COL2#</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th style="text-align:right;">Facility Description:</th><td>#COL4#</td>
</tr>
</table>
Whenever I try to print this output to PDF I get the error that the file may be corrupt or in the wrong format.

    The S.I. prefix Giga is used to mean both 1000x1000x1000 and 1024x1024x1024. Computer software typically uses the second version, but using the first number makes the same number of bytes appear bigger when expressed as Gb, so is favoured by hard drive manufactures.
    80Gb10 = 74.3Gb2
    It's a bit like specifying a quantity in gallons without saying whether they are US or Imperial gallons - everybody gets the same volume but one number will be bigger than the other. I could offer you a tank with 10 Imperial gallons of fuel in it - but if I tell you it's 12 US gallons it sounds like you're getting more for your money.
    Once the total size of your library exceeds the capacity of your device all you need to do is create some size limited playlists to determine what goes on the device. Don't sync all movies, sync one or two that you plan to watch soon. Likewise with TV Shows. Limit podcasts to unplayed episodes and finally create a music subset. What worked for me for some time was a smart playlist called Steve's Tunes defined as Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Exclude where Exclude was regular playlist that I would manually add to until Steve's Tunes was small enough to fit. These days I run an iPhone and have a number of smart playlists with ? Gb of most played, ? Gb of highly rated, ? Gb of recently added, ? Gb of essentials, ? Gb of unplayed etc. Each time I sync I get slightly updated selection without having to put any extra effort in.

  • Just downloaded to second computer. Some apps work, others (PS, Lightroom) don't. Suggestions?

    The primary machine is turned on and running, but none of the apps are open. I wanted to load up my laptop. InDesign, Acrobat Pro, and some of the other tools downloaded are working fine. However, PS, Bridge and Lightroom downloaded but have a cross through them when I look at them under my applications. They are there, but I can't open them.
    Both machines are running OS 10.6. I updated the laptop to 10.6, but not before downloading any of my creative cloud appsl. One of the forums suggested that an operating system update might hamper running on a second machine. Yet, since some work and others don't that doesn't seem likely here.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I have not shut off primary. I just thought that since some apps were abled on the laptop, and others weren't that it didn't have to do with the primary powered on. But, I guess that would be the logical place to start. Thanks. Will try ...
    OK. I powered off my desktop computer. I restarted my laptop. No luck. PS and LR are still disabled. InDesign is just fine. Go figure.
    I don't understand why my creative cloud membership is not allowing these applications on two computers, when I can with others. I need to work remotely this week, and have access to my image editing software. Grrrr.
    I once had PS and LR on my laptop, but they were boxed and licensed. When I upgraded to 10.6.8, I wiped my hard drive before hand, so they aren't even loaded.
    .... Wait a minute. Is it possible that my machine isn't fast enough/doesn't have the requirements to run these apps? It is a 2 GHz intel core duo, 2 GB memory.
    Comments?

  • Suddenly today some entries on my pc icloud calendar can't be accessed/edited - they just won't open. Some work, others don't. (All OK if l try to do it on iphone/ipad) All worked fine till today

    I find today when I open my icloud calendar on my PC that I cannot access/edit some of the entries - some are fine, others just won't open. If I click on them, they open a 'new entry' box, but will not give me access to the original entry.
    If I go to my iphone or ipad, I can access them all fine.
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled icloud on my PC, but still the same thing happens.
    Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

    All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

  • Log API: some messages log, others don't?

    For some reason, some messages i log appear in my log file and others don't. They all have the same level. I debugged it down to java.util.logging.Logger.log(LogRecord) where this loop
    Logger logger = this;
         while (logger != null) {
             Handler targets[] = logger.getHandlers();
             if (targets != null) {
                 for (int i = 0; i < targets.length; i++) {
                  targets.publish(record);
         if (!logger.getUseParentHandlers()) {
              break;
         logger = logger.getParent();
    never finds any "targets" for the missing log messages and there publish() is not called. But i wonder why this happens for some messages and not for others as all my classes (and threads) instantiate their loggers the same way ...?

    nope, as i have written: all with the same level (i.e. logging detail) ...

  • Links are not working well, some do and other don't!

    Because I want to have url's like www.name.nl/products/productx.html, www.name.nl/organization/personal.html  etc. I made for each map a different little website.
    I made the menu manually and for each menu item I made links like: http://www.name.nl/products/productx.html.
    So I made on the ftp maps of the different menu items like ;huidaandoeningen, products, behandelingen, contact, etc.
    Now the site is online but it's not going well...
    Some links are correct like http://www.htcbreda.nl/huidaandoeningen/acne.html
    All other menu items below 'Huidaandoeningen' is working well but links below 'Behandelingen' are nog working.
    If you try you also see another url address then I gave for instance:
    The requested URL /acnebehandeling.html was not found on this server. This while a give it the name http://www.htcbreda.nl/behandelingen/acnebehandeling.html
    Als for all the menu items below 'Products' and also the menu items below in the big blue bar on the homepage....
    I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to resolve this for a week now and I cannot figure out what is going wrong. Frustrating....

  • Problems with integrated video files, some videos working, others not

    Hello,
    I have pdf files where video clips are integrated. Most of them are in the AVI container format with FFODIVX codec and without audio. These can be played within the pdf file.
    I tried to convert the video clips that are not working to the same format and also to many different other codecs and combinations of codecs. But it didn't help. Some clips are just not working. Are there any additional limitations that I have to consider. Or does anybody has an idea, what the problem could be?
    Best regards and thanks in advance,
    Daniel N

    Your Mac runs maintenance in the background for you.
    Command + R gives you access to restore, repair, or reformat the drive using OS X Recovery
    No idea why that was suggested.
    You may have a third party video player installed that's causing an incompatibility issue.
    Check these folders:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Input Methods/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    ~/Library/Input Methods/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
    The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder.The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
    To access the Home folder in OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and chooseGo > Library.

  • Photoshop cs5, Opening Tiff into Raw. Some open and others don't.

    I have installed cs5 onto my Windows Envy laptop. I want to open my tiff into raw. I can do that with some of the tiff files and others I cannot, the option is greyed out. Then the pic. next to it works and the one after does not, so forth and so on. I have gone back and forth in changing the camera raw preferences settings to try and get something going to no avail.
    Any answers ??
    BK

    Thank you for your willingness to help. I have since discovered that if I have layers on that particular tiff file I would have to flatten it first to open in raw. Thanks again

  • Interesting SCOM Reports and "Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 Reports" MP Issue , Some reports appear others don't

    Our test environment is quite simple one Operations Server 2012 R2; with the database and SSRS instance on another server; Service Manager 2012 is on it’s own virtual machine; and the Service Manager Data Warehouse on it’s own. I’ve been trying to demo chargeback
    with scvmm and I’m having issues with the chargeback reporting.
    I’ve followed this process to install chargeback reports:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj614406.aspx which
    completed successfully. All of the cubes seem to process correctly in Service Manager and I can create a chargeback analysis excel sheet with no issues in service manager. I still do not get any chargeback reports in the Operations console though. I get some
    reports under the “Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 Reports” heading like Capacity, Host Group Forecasting, Host Utilization, etc but no chargeback report.
    I can see the chargeback report in the SSRS website but cannot get it to appear in the Operations console. If anyone has any tips or troubleshooting they can point me at I would appreciate it.

  • Preview.app will not display some PDF files

    Since upgrading Yosemite I have found that Preview.app will not display some PDF documents, the documents open but all the pages are blank. This is a big issue as my work involves reviewing documents that are all in the PDF format. Strangely some PDFs work properly but I haven't been able to determine any common factors among the documents that work versus those that don't work. The problem documents do open correctly in Adobe Acrobat Reader but Reader takes over viewing of PDF container fields I have in several important FileMaker Pro 13 databases. Acrobat in the FileMaker databases for me is just as much of a problem as not viewing PDFs in Preview.
    After searching the forums I followed suggestion in a post to try using version 7.0 of Preview.app (the version that worked under Mavericks) but that is also showing blank pages. I have noticed that the PDFs which open as blank pages also display that way in Finder and Spotlight previews. Could this mean that I have some kind of OS level issue here and not a Preview.app issue? Perhaps Finder and Spotlight use Preview.app to generate the preview.
    I have posted this in a bug report to Apple but in the meantime I would welcome any suggestions or workarounds to try.

    The built-in PDF renderer has trouble with that file. You might get better results with Adobe Reader.

  • Some PDF Links don't work

    Structured Frame 7.2, Acrobat 8.1.2
    Some of my Frame xrefs work as links in PDF, some don't. All xref formats use elem rather than para, the jumps work in FrameMaker. These are the first PDFs we've created after moving to structured Frame. Any suggestions? Help please!

    Teresa,
    This sounds like a long-time known bug in structured Frame which I think may carry over into unstructured Frame, I'm not sure. The bug is that some PDF hyperlinks don't work if you don't include the target in the PDF bookmarks. For example, if your xrefs target a Heading3 element, but you don't include Heading3 elements in your bookmarks, Frame may fail to create named destinations for those elements and your links won't work.
    There is a workaround to this bug in my shareware XRef Wizard plugin, available at www.weststreetconsulting.com. It might be able to help... look in the documentation for "named destinations."

  • Some pdf & doc won't download... tried fixes under 'FF keeps opening many tabs or windows' but none worked... these files open in Safari & Google Chrome.

    Some pdf & doc files won't download. The "You Have Chosen to Open" pop-up appears but when I hit 'Save File", it goes away and the file is not saved. The corrupted files show up in mac download file as .part but don't show up in ff download file. Tried suggestions in "Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows" on this website but none worked.

    This is most likely Firefox's new "built in" PDF Viewer giving you the trouble.
    First, in Firefox, type "about:config" (minus the quotes) in the address bar. This will open the Firefox configuration file. You'll see a warning. Click that you'll be careful, and open the configurer.
    At the top there is a search bar. Type "js" (again, minus the quotes).
    In the list of results you'll see pdfjsdisabled with a value of "false". Right click it and select Toggle to make it read "true".
    Click Firefox>Preferences and under the Applications tab, scroll down to Adobe Acrobat Document. Click the drop down on the right side and choose "Use Adobe Reader (default)".
    That should take care of it for you.

  • When I email a newsletter as a pdf, the links don't work

    I am creating a newsletter that I want to email out and I have some text linking to webpages. However, when I send it as a pdf, the links don't work. Do I need to send it as a Word document? I don't want to have to send a document that large. Is there anyway to keep my file size small (ie pdf) and have the links work?
    Thanks

    Ah that is different.
    It may be you are just seeing a preview of the pdf in the email, which is why the link is not working.
    I would certainly not rely on people seeing even that. Most PC users do not see pdfs embedded in their email, just an attachment. Even Mac users see various results depending on how many pages the pdf contains.
    I am working on newsletter emails for a client right now and the lack of standards and inconsistent results in email clients is extremely frustrating.

  • Preview not working on some pdfs

    Hello,
    Recently I have encountered problems using Preview with a few pdfs. Two different files from two different senders. (I was later able to open these email attachments on my powerbook without any problem.) When I open the files, Preview opens but the page is solid grey. I tried to open both files with Adobe, but got the following message: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." The strange thing is that some pdfs open just fine and the files that don't open, like I mentioned above, open fine on another machine.
    I have already tried deleting the preview.plist and that didn't work. I am considering reinstalling preview (I saw that mentioned in a post), but would appreciate any suggestions before doing so. Thanks in advance.

    Try repairing permissions.
    Open Diisk Utillity located in HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.

  • OCR works without issue on some files, not others?

    Acrobat 10.1.1
    While working with converting presentation slides to OCR and exporting them I am only able to get some PDFs to properly OCR. I am using the same process though it seems it simply won't take on some while it does others.
    Tools > Recognize Text > In this file > (Default settings) Ok
    and yet I get different outcomes.
    Is it possible that background colors/type color/font etc. are conflicting with the OCR process? Again keep in mind these are presentation slides that have been converted into PDFs that I am attempting to OCR for export into Word.
    Thanks.

    Most of the time you would not be able to OCR such documents because they are not pure graphics. OCR in Acrobat can only be done on pure graphics. If there is else on the page, OCR will not work. A work around is to save the document as a TIFF and then import all the TIFF files produced into a new PDF and run OCR on that. Be careful to use a high enough resolution, the other aspect than can cause OCR to fail (there is a minimum resolution -- 200 or 300 dpi).
