If you had been syncing notes on your iPod with iCloud before this happened, go to icloud.com and confirm that your notes are still there. If they are, you could either email them to yourself one at a time from icloud.com or you could sign into your icloud account on your other iPad in Settings>iCloud and turn Notes to On to sync them to your other iPod.

In the settings you can choose to not automatically update content so you can manually manage the books on the mini.

Buying my first Mac this weekend - advice?

I'm thinking about buying a Mac this weekend - for the first time!
Some questions:
1. Going for a laptop - which do you recommend?
2. Should I wait a bit for the Leopard OS?

Go with the MacBook. As someone else said, the only real difference is souped up video and ambient lighting on the keyboard. And the video on the MacBook is already pretty souped up. The MacBook is even closer to the MacBook Pro than the iBook was to the Powerbook.
Just get yourself some additional RAM for it. You want 1 Gig. If the price they charge is too much, buy the RAM yourself and put it in. It will take about 5 minutes.

You definitely want to stay with Tiger. Let the bleeding edge people install Leopard. As a first-time Mac owner, I want the experience to be very good for you. Leopard will probably have some bugs to be worked out.
On that note, if your new MacBook comes with 10.4.7, you should seriously consider re-installing Tiger and using a combo updater to go up to 10.4.6 only. What I'm hearing about 10.4.7 reminds me a lot of 7.5.2 about 10 years ago. I skipped that one too and saved myself quite a bit of trouble. I think sometimes Apple can get carried away with the latest and greatest update, perhaps succumbing to all the security FUD these days, and release an update they shouldn't have.

Changing VPN from WatchGuard to Juniper this weekend -- looking for potential gotchas...

This weekend we're replacing our WatchGuard firewall with a Juniper SRX firewall.
Our Azure VPN terminates on this WatchGuard. By the end of the night we hope to have it up and running off of the new Juniper SRX firewall.
We have a team of network consultants on hand who are all pretty savvy with Juniper configurations. But this team doesn’t have much knowledge on Azure VPN connections.
The Microsoft Azure site provides us with a script to use with Juniper firewalls, which is nice. And we're basing our initial work off the VPN device script.
Looking to get some ideas from some of you in the field for potential gotchas that may come about as a result of making this change.

Watchguard is a supported VPN for Azure VPN connections. In addition, if your VPN device's IP address is changed, you need to change the VPN device's IP address on the Local network page.
In addition, Watchguard is only compatible for static routing gateway. Please check your exsiting gateway type and if it is a dynamic one, please delete it and create a static one instead:
Change a Virtual Network Gateway Routing Type
Then, you can follow the steps when you created the site-to-site VPN connections using Juniper SRX.

Updated to 5.1 this weekend and lost wifi connectivity on iPhone 4 and Ipad 2

This weekend I updated my iPhone 4 (AT&T) and iPad 2 (Verizon 3G, wifi) to 5.1. Since the update (went flawlessly), I have been unable to connect to wifi networks anywhere. All that I get is the continuously running circle that shows it is trying to connect (but never actually does). I have RESET all Network connections numerous times, did the 'Forget this' connection on everything, etc. They will no longer connect to places that I have always connected to (Home network, CLE Airport, Hilton, Work, etc...). I can connect to all networks fine with my laptop and blackberry, but I just get the constant connection circle with my iPhone and iPad 2. Can anyone offer any other advise?
I have tried:
1. Reboot (Soft)
2. Reboot (Hard (Home and Power button)
3. Forget WiFi connection
4. Reset Network Connections
5. Tried 6 different Wireless (wifi) networks that I have always been able to connect to with no luck.
6. Airplane Mode with wifi on...
7. Turned 3G off...
Desperately awaiting some assistance, I do not have cell connections in our facilities or the hotel, so basically have a useless device right now!

I have the same problem with my Ipad 2 16gb WiFi, I bought it in US on march (I don´t live in US) I returned to my country and updated the IOS to 5.1.
One week ago the wifi signal dissapeared, I get the continuously running circle that shows it is trying to connect too.
I tried to reset it, to restart it, I even erase all content and settings but the problem continues.
As you can imagine an Ipad without internet connection is useless, I have opened a case in Apple Technical Support.
All I want to do is to return it
The question is if It will be possible to replace it or change it by other apple product. I will go to US again next month.

I got the new ipad this weekend and had problem with apple ID - thus resulting in 13 charges to my credit and debit card with itunes and nothing loading onto the ipad - does anyone have an idea as to how I can get this credited back to my accounts?

More update on y situation. Now on both the IPAD and IPAD2 I can not got to view my purchase History, it says it can not connect to the ITUNES store, but yet I can still d/l apps and can view my account etc etc etc.

I upgraded our CAM/CAS servers from 4.8.2 to 4.9.0 this weekend

I upgrade the servers from 4.8.2 to 4.9.0 this weekend and all of the servers now crash when introduced to user traffic. The upgrade shows no errors and I have not had a problem in the past the servers are 3355s. Has anyone else upgraded to 4.9.0?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Wow - Tickets Unsold for This Weekend's EVENT!

I have seen estimates of up to 20K tickets to this weekend's big EVENT in New Jersey. I cannot recall that ever happening before, but maybe it's just the reporting now? When that EVENT was held in New Orleans, or Phoenix, tickets were gone a month out.
Will be interesting to see how this shapes up, but it does appear that the weather will not be the big deal, that it could have been.

I agree it can be a useful feature in certain circumstances. The most obvious to me being the audio/video "sync" and creation of "subclip" equivalents.
I haven't tested it yet, but if you can put content from the timeline into an empty Event Browser compound clip, that could also be very useful, allowing an easier way to reuse content across projects as opposed to copy/paste from/to projects. I wonder what would happen if you paste content from a clip that is from a different Event.
I know many have asked about how they could get just the parts of the clip that they wanted and make that the clip that remained in their event browser. We know we can save segments of a clip as favorites, but they are still all in the same clip. So we cannot simply drag those segments onto the timeline.
Actually you can do this using favorites. After you have marked your favorite sections, in the Event Browser, you can just "Show Favorites" (control-F). Now all the favorite sections look like separate clips which you can individually edit into the timeline (either via keyboard or drag/drop).
I think using favorites/keywords to identify the parts you want to keep is preferable to the Open in Timeline use-blade-tool approach; even though it is non-destructive regarding the actual media on disk, it is destructive in the sense that you no longer have access to what you remove unless you re-mport it. In most cases, it is just better to hide that unwanted media rather than make it gone forever.

F1 at Monaco this weekend - Crisis/Drama

A couple of days ago, my neighbor asked me if I can get the hockey game. I asked “what hockey game?” He said the one on NBC Sports, as his HD channel is out. Ahhhhhh! I rushed to my TV and my NBCHD channel was out also.
I am home waiting on the cable company to come out to resolve. They said it may be a problem in the line, on a pole somewhere. I’m surprised it did not make the front page of the paper today that TV coverage of F1 may be in jeopardy. Instead, the sports page only had an article on that lame Indy race this weekend.
I may have to pull a Rod, and start cussing in this forum. I may have to drive hundreds of miles to watch it at Bill’s house. Bill, what is it, over a hundred degrees there already? We are suffering here with morning marine layer, clearing in the afternoon with temperatures this weekend in the high 60’s, and the ocean is still cold. Why me? I can understand if cable went down on Super Bowl weekend, it would be no big deal. (As F1 and Rodeo are the ONLY real sports. All others are in the same class as roller Derby and Wrestling – just entertainment)
If they can’t fix this weekend, I may be forced to watch F1 in standard def. You may as well tell me I need to walk around looking at life through dark glasses with Vaseline smeared on the lens. I don’t watch standard. I’ve had friends say they have the latest/greatest movie on DVD, and do I want them to bring it over. I ask “Do you mean Blu-Ray?” When they say no, I say “then don’t bring it over”.

Cox Cable came out and said the signal was good to the D-Mark. They said the problem is internal wiring, maybe a staple when the builder laid the internal coax, or used shoddy coax. (A problem I inherited – but it was working for as long as I have been here, and it was working two weeks ago)

I thought of running a 100’ patch cable from the D-Mark, through the front door to the cable box.
Move the TV/sound system next to the patio area near the D-Mark outside and use a shorter patch cable.
Long term fix:
Knock the walls out and re-cable.

The problem is your patio is probably 100+ degrees. Can you tent it with industrial AC?
Would the golfers have a problem with a sound system cranking at 110 decibels? You not only have to hear the motors, you have to FEEL the motors turning at 18,000rpm. The neighbors here are used to it, and tolerate it for a few hours. (Beside, they play their sound systems just as loud for movies.)
Should we fly Rod in so he can use his new camera to document the affair, and create a souvenir Blu-Ray disk for us? I think I can borrow a mixer board from work for his sound.

Try resetting your network settings.
Settings>Genenal>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
