Need someone's help.
On my startup disk, the classic 9.2.2 system is not there. It just says select the system you want to startup your computer, and the choise's are Mac OS X 10.4.10 on hard drive and Network startup, but no classic. It used to be there but now it is gone, all the files are there and the classic invirorment works just fine. I did on one occasion use the recovery disks to get a program to install. How do I get the classic choice back on my startup disk so I can make the choice? Thanks

The iBook G4s cannot start up into Mac OS 9; therefore, Mac OS 9 will never appear in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences on these computers.
Try "blessing" your OS 9.2.2 system folder. Open your "System Folder" folder and drag the finder to your desktop. Close the System Folder and then drag the finder on top of the System Folder and release it. Mac OS 9.2.2 should now show as a choice in your Startup Disk window.
You cannot bless a system from the Mac OS X Finder; doing so requires the Mac OS 9 Finder or the Terminal in Mac OS X, or another way of issuing UNIX commands in Mac OS X.

SOMETHING GONE AWRY WITH A BUNCH OF GIFS ON MY PAGE. PLEASE HELP ME.

Please, this is a situation which has me nervous. A friend sent me one of those funny GIF things. It is about six different cat faces and the cats move in different ways depending on what kind of music it is.
I tried to get these GIFs onto my iWeb webpages. I had a difficult time, published one cat face and saw it on Safari on my website. It was a cat with a head bouncing to be bop music. Then I tried to upload all the other cat heads. I botched the job because it ended up with about six of them piling up on each other. Anyhow, I had a bunch of these square windows of cat faces with different kinds of earphones and I thought to myself, "Heh, wouldn't it be funny to see what THAT looks like on a webpage," and I hit the publish button.
As i could see the progres bar advancing I got to thinking how this could muck up my website (I am a neophyte), so I hit the Cancel button. After that, I deleted the page upon which all those GIFs of cats faces bobbing up and down had been placed. I thought that that was the end of it.
Then I went to my email to do something else. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I could see movement and I realized that it was that notification saying that my page had been published. SO apparently I had not cancelled that page after all. I clicked onto the Visit Me Now button and saw up in the Navbar, a page titled BLANK. The page had bobbing cat head GIFs strewn all over it and I panicked. I closed Safari, went to iWeb to see if I could really get rid of those cat GIFs.
The bottomest line is that I had already deleted that page! How would the cats still be dancing on that blank page if I deleted it? I checked all my other pages and they are OK. How on earth could those dancing cat GIFs be bouncing around on my Safari website when they are nowhere to be found on my iWeb pages?
Please, help me figure this out because I am not comfortable knowing that a whole bunch of GIFs are on my Safari website, maybe screwing everything up by whatever GIFs might be able to do if there were enough of them on a page. Sort of like overload, too any appliances plugged into the wall, etc.
I am nervous, and although this could seem funny on the outside, here in my place it is nerve wracking.

All right. The cat GIFs are gone now from my website. I had earlier hit the Clear cache button, but apparently I had to hit it about 10 more times plus go to sites outside of the website. I left to do something else and now that I checked my website on Safari, that Blank Page is not there and the GIFs are gone.
I'm glad that's over.

When i maximise it the 2D drawing appears weird, out of position, fuzzy & totally messed up! AND when i minimize it back to original window frame size - The 2D drawing totally disappeared/Gone!!!
Anyone know why is that a problem?
Is it a Swing problem? Or Java 2D problem?

You're trying to do program logic within the paintComponent method. When your paintComponent method ends, lord knows what the final value of your different x and y variables are. They certainly aren't the same values as when you first did the drawing. What ends up happening is that hte drawing is likely done, but is very very small. Throw in some System.out. println's and you'll see.
I recommend that you do all your equations outside of the paintComponent, and save the line coordinates in an ArrayList of objects of a class you can create. Then have the paintComponent simply iterate through the arraylist drawing based on the values in the objects held by the list.
Edit: one easy object to use is a Line2D and then have your arraylist hold these objects. Then simply use a Graphics2D object to draw all the Line2D's held in the list.

Newbie here...er..has something gone wrong with Apples quality control..!?

Hi, this is my first post here. I am on my second apple computer, first was a 12inch iBook in 2004 which my partner now has as I went and bought a shiny new macbook in June. When I bought my first apple computer I was a very happy switcher from pc's, I loved my iBook, and learnt mac osx on Panther Lots of fun with movies, photo's and iTunes. The ibook never crashed, never stopped doing what it was supposed to, and never got too hot or made barnyard impressions! So I was looking forward to the upgrade to Tiger, iLife 6 et al when I took delivery of the macbook. And I trusted Steve Jobs and the crew at Cupertino to carry on the the good work and provide the quality hardware and software that I had been trying to persuade all my pc friends to buy into....but...it has all gone horribly wrong. My macbook is at this very moment as I type getting hotter by the second and there is a herd of cows on my desk mooing away. Every now and then..bang.. ramdon shutdown. And every now and then it won't shut down when I want it to. Now I know from the discussion boards that I am not alone with this and that apple issued a fix for the overheating, but then on top of this, I see that iTunes 7 has lots of problems as does the new v10.4.8 update. I am still a mac fan, and I want to stay loyal as I can't bare the thought of going back to pc's, but hey, I just really hope that if there are some quality control issues rearing an ugly head that Mr Jobs remembers that we still have a choice. I'm holding off from downloading the updates until the bugs are fixed, and I will hold off from buying my new 24 inch iMac until I am sure that there are no gremlins with it...and I should not have to be doing this with Macs. Or so I was lead to believe!
Sorry if my first post sounds a little negative but I just want to enjoy being a mac owner again!

So I'm guessing that your reliable iBook (the one that never crashed or stop doing what it was supposed to do) wasn't one the first generation of iBooks that Apple made that had the logic board problem that caused Apple to extend the warranty out to 3 years, right?

My point is that your iBook was as good as it was based on the fact that Apple made mistakes on (and learned from) previous generation iBooks.
Now you buy a first generation product (where Apple's had no chance to learn from previous mistakes because there haven't been any previous mistakes as this is brand-spanking stuff for them) and you're expecting it to be as good as the fifth or sixth generation product that you're replacing.
Where is the logic in that?
To me, what matters is how well the manufacturer can address the issues. And although I'm not impressed with the speed at which Apple has dealt with some of the MacBook issues, as it stands (and as far as I know) they've corrected all of them so far. New ones are being manufactured that don't have the issues, and Apple will repair any older MacBook that was manufactured before production was changed. This is more that I can about my experience with my first-year Honda Element.
Perhaps this is why Windows laptops rarely have huge innovative design changes like Apple made going from the iBook to the MacBook. Most manufacturers don't want to have to deal with the subsequent risks.
I don't think it's wrong to expect a lot from Apple, but I also don't think that you can ignore the logic of the situation.

Something gone horribly wrong with my router

I'm out in the middle of nowhere and just set up a few days ago a WRT54G2 V1 wireless 4-port router a family member had laying around. I had no problem getting it working and running. About an hour ago I noticed I wasn't picking up the wireless with my cell phone and went to check it on my laptop, I had no wireless connections available. It wasn't my adapter or anything since I know there are no other connections out where I am. I went to reset the router and found it had taken issue with that. Once I powered everything back on the router stopped responding and became "stuck" in an annoying state. It doesn't respond to the reset button, unplugging and replugging, nothing. Whether the internet was plugged in or not it will not move past what it's doing now.
Do I need to buy a new router or is this a problem that can be fixed?

Hi F0xism and welcome to the forums!
Please try to reset the router for 30 seconds while it is turned on then turn it off and then turn in on again after 30 seconds. Connect a computer directly in one of the ethernet ports just to check if it's still giving your computer an IP address.
It should give you the message: " Local Area Connection is now connected" or something relevant to that.
Let us know if it works.

I received a confirmation email and number but my credit card has not been charged for anything, is this because it hasn't shipped yet or because there is an issue with the card and their system?

I have an apple tv and like some others my light is blinking and the screen does not go past the apple symbol. I have tried rebooting my device, checked the HDMI cable and caused a hard reset by removing the power cable for 20 seconds. lastly I tried holding down the menue & down buttons for six seconds to cause a reset but nothing changes. Anybody got a clue ?

Sound gone after security update!

I just ran the latest security update (2006-2) on my wife's Intel Core Duo Mini and the sound device is no longer available. No start up chime. No sound what so ever. The volume level does not even appear in the menu bar and the volume keys on the keyboard do nothing.
The Sound pane (under the output tab) in System preferences says:
No output devices found
Is this a known issue with the update or has something gone wrong with the computer (it is only four days old).

One of the few settings that Mac OS X saves in the PRAM is the system volume. If you're system volume was set to mute when you shut down, you won't hear the chime at startup. But it was odd you couldn't change the volume with the keys or the menubar.
By resetting the PRAM, the system will forget if it's been muted, turned very low or very high and reset to the middle. Usually you hold all four keys down at the same time until you hear the startup chime for the third time and then let go. Thanks for sharing what you've found, someone else may come by with the same question.

Where has the colored fringe removal tool gone in ACR 6.7?

Having just updated ACR to ver 6.7 (6.7.0.339) I am surprised to find that the colored fringe removal tool in the Lens Correction palette has disappeared. All that there is now is Transform, Lens Vignetting and the relatively useless Defringe.
I thought updates were supposed to provide enhancements, not remove things. What else has been taken away?
I use this tool a lot and would like to get it back. If it has been replaced with something supposedly better, then what and where is it? Have I missed something?
Any advice on this would be appreciated.

However, the article seems to apply only to ACR 7 (which I presume is exclusive to CS6) and LR 4. My question was really about ACR 6.7.0.339 in CS5, which installed via Adobe Updates, during the past week. On my system, this update appears to have removed the manual fringe removal tools in the Lens Correction palette.
There is nothing about this in the release notes, so has something gone wrong here?
However I have discovered that my lens is now supported, and that applying the (semi) automatic adjustments via the Lens Profile tab does a reasonable job of fixing chromatic aberrations (as well as geometrical aberrations) and is a lot quicker to use. However the manual tool should still be there to fix problems with unsupported lenses as well as a means of applying finer adjustments, perhaps to selected parts of an image, or to accomodate variations in manufactured lens quality.

ICal v3 todo Alarms gone (no option to set alam in todo anymore)

Hi.
I've been using iCal for over a year now and all of a sudden, I cannot set an alarm for any To-Do item. Frustrating
My To-Dos, naturally, often have deadlines that alarms are very useful for. Now, if I need an alarm, I have to move my To-Do entry to a callendar day, which makes it hard to find and basicaly negates the purpose of having a To-Do list in the first place.
Was this intentional by Apple, or has something gone wrong that can be fixed?

5.1 Preferences/Cookies and Private Browsing gone haywire - BACKWARDS

There is something gone wrong, all haywire with the new version of Safari at 5.1. The Cookies settings in the Prefs has "Block" settings, and I have it set at "ALWAYS" and yet it allows for me to sign in to any webpage with my name and password, whereas before I couldn't. At the same time, if I use "Private Browsing" and set that, it actually blocks my Cookies!!!! whereas before all it did was not remember History. Somebody messed up the programming and got this one completely backwards, this should be the other way around.
Cookies set to ALWAYS should block all cookies and Private Browsing should not block cookies just not remember history.
This is a major blunder. Needs immediate update fix, please.

After years of good bars, they have slowly gone (on one of my 2 computers)

I have a desktop and a laptop in the same room. Always had bars from the airport. Last few days the desktop has struggled with 1 or 2 or no bars while the laptop is 5 bars strong. Has something gone wrong in my desktop? Anything I can check or reset? Tried turning airport, modem and computer off completely.

It may sound silly, but unplug them for at least ten seconds each, and then try again.
If it has slowly been happening on the desktop, then it sounds like it is a problem specific to that computer or airport card. Is the performance of your G5 unaffected otherwise? If you are having other problems too, then there may be other issues at work.
Try repairing disk permissions on your G5 with Disk Utility if you have not done so recently.

Cannot select multiple images in iPhoto '08?

What am I doing wrong? I want to select multiple images to either print several on a page, or publish to a gallery, but for the life of me I cannot find a view which shows me all photo thumbnails or all thumbnails in an album or all in an event. I can spin the mousewheel to singly go through them, or I can hit edit and go to full screen where I get a thumbnail bar and can select multiples and view them at the same time, but printing or publishing this selection only recognizes the first photo as selected. If I try to select View>Thumbnails, the subsequent menu options are grayed out, and the top one is "hide" even though I see no thumbnail bar. Is there something very obvious I'm missing, or has something gone awry and I should reinstall?

Photoshop gives, Program Error, when attempting to use blending options in RGB

This problem started today when i tryed to throw a drop shadow on a layer. in RGB mode. "Program Error," appeared and would not let me access any Blending options. Although, in cmyk mode it works perfectly fine. Was some hotkey hit on accident or has something gone wrong? Help!
