Sorry but its another Raptor question..
Hi all.
Heres the deal. I currently have about 8GB of audio, about 5GB of pics and about 2GB of documents.
At the moment I use DVDs to back up the above documents, but since the amount I need to back up is growing so quickly, Its taking longer and longer to orgnise and back up. I usually take between 1 and 2GB of pics when I go on holiday and my MP3/AAC collection is growing quickly.
My question is this: Should I go for a Raptor 74GB hard disk and use that as my primary drive and the stock drive as a secondrey drive? or opt for an External hard drive like the Smartdisk crossfire?
If I choose the raptor, is it difficult to transfer everything from the stock disk to the raptor? Will I need any additional software?
Oh, and I should add. The disk on the IBook mentioned in my sig is full, so cant use that for back ups any more.

It seems from your writing that your needs is for storage space, not speed, so I don't think the Raptor offers you anything particularly useful in real use.
For less then the cost of a 74 GB Raptor (~$160 when not on sale), you can get a Maxtor MaxLine III 300 GB, with a 16 MB cache (~$130), that will provide over 4 times the amount of storage as the Raptor, and provide very close performance numbers to the Raptor.
If I were adding an internal I'd go with the MaxLine III for very good performance, and much higher storage capacity.
As for an external, those too are a good option for backup. I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned, so I'll leave it to others to provide suggestions about it.

Hey, sorry, but one more quick question... noise at startup
sorry but i'm a relatively new mac (and laptop) user, and I have been unable to find a way to stop the noise the computer makes (through the speakers, like the noise it should make) when I turn it on. This is true for both the windows and mac side of my computer. Whenever it is happening I try hitting F3 or F4 but that doesn't seem to work.

Sorry, but still another question about ampersands in data.
I'm sorry to raise a question that has been discussed before, but I have searched the forum and have not found anything I understand.
The problem: I have a user requirement to link two pages using a column value on the first page that may contain embeded ampersands. A link on this column is defined on the first report page and the passed value is to be used in a Where clause for the second report page.
This works fine for values that do not contain ampersands, but, of course, the ampersand is escaped from '&' to '&" as it is passed from the first page to the second and thus fails as a Where value in the SQL on the second page.
I have tried many ways to get an un-escaped value passed, and to un-escape the value once it is accessed on the second page, but to no avail.
This is not a user requirement I have control over, but one I must accommodate, unfortunately.
Can some kind soul provide me with help in dealing with such values passed from page to page?

I haven't had much luck understanding just when and how page items get populated and/or processed. As I understand your method, you go to Page 2, to Page Edit, to Source, and use the 'replace' function on the field that was loaded in Page 1. I hope I am understanding you properly. I'll give this a try too.

Sorry for being a pain and asking this quesion once again. I did a search, but wasn't satisfied with the answers I got...
The following:
You can see my setup from my sig. What I have done so far is setup BIOS Native mode SATA & PATA enabled SATA P0/P1. Both SATA drives connected to ICH5. Installed XP pressed F6 installed the driver with the intel disk. Partitioned the Raptor 5GB & 30GB FAT32. The only bench I've done sofar is Sandra where I got 41MB/s. Which according to SiSoft Sandra is just as fast as a normal IDE HDD. 2 Raptors in RAID are quoted @ 144MB/s
My question is if this is right or if I've done something wrong?

I ran bootvis & found the reason for the delay during startup! It was the USH hub. After disconnecting all my USB devices I am now back to a 14sec. startup!!!
But What is more important to me is the poor Raptor performance!!!
I ran SiSoft Sandra again & here are my results:
5GB (FAT32 default allocatoin) partion: 32MB/s
30GB (FAT32 32k allocatoin) partion: 44MB/s
Index: 2xRaid0 36,7GB Raptors 8MB Cache: 95MB/s
This seems really slow to me for a 10.000rpm HDD. Can anyone tell me why this is the case? -

Take it back. The activation lock is an anti-theft measure and there is no way to bypass it. The seller should have wiped it clean for you and if they can't then it's a very real possibility that the device wasn't theirs to sell in the first place.
You bought a device that can never function so get your money back. -

Well When I am on iTunes it says that my Ipod is plugged in, but it won't let me update my Ipod, how do I get it to update?
And it always says do not connect but I do anyways is that bad?
Windows XPIf your iPod is set to the manually manage songs and playlists option then do not disconnect will always show until you manually eject it. If it is set to automatic update it should disconnect automatically unless it is enabled for disk use (in other words set to be used as a portable hard drive)

Over the years I have had many ISP and email addresses - but now we have finally gone almost fully virtual...
I have a live login and MS ID 4 my SkyDrive account but I only use my MS touch with 8.1, SkyDrive and office 365 for mobility.
And I still like to backup to my own server!!!
What would be good is if I can put all the software licenses and product keys of the software and keep a record of my mac addresses for hardware and even static IP's in a file or a secure location within the MS online store.
That's where MS wants me to get my computing needs from in future and I will always be able to retrieve it in future but what about the $$$$$ I have spent on software, hardware and applications prior to now???

That's crap - This is a clean brand spanker install of Win7 and there was nothing b4 I put the oem drivers from Toshiba back on.
I looked at dozens of support pages and forum blogs and tried for hours to get a copy to download - including incognito and other logins but because my default PC name is also my MS Windows live ID the same error was repeated.
I keep away from the non MS sites for these things and with good reason - there were heaps of similar users with the same issue or very close to it that had downloaded from a supposed MS copy from eValue or digital river etc and the next
thing was total corruption of the OS.
EVENTUALLY I found a LIVE MS chat on a support site in the US and she gave me a link to a slightly older version which will need updating and some reg edit changes but so far, so good.
The point is - what a crock !
I should be able to just keep all my software, drivers, updates, service packs, and versions that I have upgraded in the MS store.
If Microsoft aren't going to support XP or Office 2003 and eventually 2007, vista & Windows7 not far behind??? then that's still no excuse for them to put these restrictions and limits when I OWN my copy of the software!!

im a newby to this but i really need help fixing my macbook air a1369 2010 model display screen, i have replaced all new but its just dead a black screen with no power getting to it at all even the backlit led is dead so the inverter isnt getting power to it either. everything works perfectly through another monitor hoocked into the thunderbolt port, its just theres no power going into the built in display.
i would really appreciate some pointers as to whether theres any fuses that i could change or any pointers on getting the display to work at all. thank you for taking the time to read this and hope you can help a newby get back up & running.Confused, if you just had screen replaced was it working when you picked it up? I'd call whoever fixed it and report it ASAP.

And now i want to ask. Its 120 GB full space but i dont know how. It tells me lets say i have 30 GB movies but i dont have anything ! Can you help me with any way ? its not a question, but i just hope someone from apple can read this, i just wish you can make a card just like itunes card, for ipad wi-fi card. would be convenience.

But returning to your proposal ... Apple does not sell any of the "wifi" connections. It would be up to providers of service to sell giftcards, and perhaps Boingo or some of other airport-commercial WiFi firms do. I can't think of any other place I've been asked to pay for WiFi.
Now Verizon and AT&T, as well as other providers in other countries, could sell Gift Cards... and again, perhaps they do, but you'll have to check with them or make the suggestions there. It's really not an Apple issue, as they don't sell or provide any connections, just the hardware to make them. -

The question mark can mean several things. One the drive is failng, or has failed, or your Mac can't find a system folder to boot from.
Try booting while holding down the Option key. If the drive is available, it should show up in the Startup Manager window.
