Sorry for bringing it up again - Photosmart 7960 Network Printing

I searched the forum and found answers dating from 2003.
I installed the Gimp files and it prints like poo.
Here is the setup:
Mac & PC <---> Linksys WRT54G v6 <---> WPS54G/HP 7960
Jobs from the PC print perfectly using the HP drivers.
Jobs from the Mac look like poo. The printer is using the colours to simulate black, so the font is nasty and bolded.
I am going to try to install the HP drivers once more, just in case (Murphy's Law)

If I were you, I'd be complaining to HP. They provide CUPS drivers for linux (the hplip project), but they don't for OS X.
I don't know if it will work any better, but have you tried this CUPS driver set?

    Hi,
This has most likely nothing to do with the printer but with the program you are using to print. For example Word has a setting for this, so let me know which program and I might be able to check for you.

  • Sorry to bring this up again - I moved my iTunes Music:-(

Hi everyone - I've been through the forums and tried everything suggested, but am still not getting anywhere - I guess my case might be slightly different:
I have a massive iTunes Library and the music was stored on an external Harddrive that slowly died - I managed to copy everything of that HD bit by bit, and now have it on another external HD that has the same name and the same folder structure.
I've copied the music a bit forward and backward, following some suggestions here on the forum, but still: most songs display the gray exclamation mark.
The structure of the library never changed and I always had the 'keep library organized' button checked.
The problem is that I don't want to loose my Playlists, ratings etc, so how can I reset the path? Is there any way I can manually edit the libray file to give it the correct path?
Thanks so much for any suggestions!

Sixx, I'm sorry to say that Corey is right. The correct method would have been to have iTunes do the move; then it would automatically have adjusted the iTunes Library file to contain the right file location information. iTunes was not able to follow the drive-to-drive moves you made in the Finder; hence, the exclamation marks. The iTunes Music folder location setting you've changed doesn't have the function that you expect it to have. It tells iTunes where to place future files that you rip to the library, not where to look for files that have already been entered into the library.
It likely is too late, but the only solution I can think of is to reverse course and try to restore the original situation. I don't know if your failing drive is even available for that. If it is, you might try copying one album back to that drive, making sure to place it in the exact same folder position it originally was in, and see if your iTunes library recognizes it. If you've already made a lot of changes that affect the iTunes Library file in your attempts to fix the situation (e.g., the Consolidate Library attempts may have had an effect, but maybe not), this approach may not help.
Well, here's another desperate idea. You could try renaming your new hard drive and giving it the same name as your old one. (Disconnect the old one, of course.) Then the path to your music files will be the same as it used to be, at least in terms of text-based volume and folder names. Maybe iTunes will be satisfied with that. Please think about whether renaming your hard drive is going to mess up anything else in your computer setup before you do this. I have no idea if it will work.
Related to both of the above (maybe I should have thought of this first), it might help to check to see where iTunes thinks your files should be. (Again, it's not necessarily where the iTunes Music folder location setting points to.) You will have to open the iTunes Music Library.xml file (use a text editor or word processor), which contains a record of much of the directory information in the critical iTunes Library file. Scroll down a bit till you get to chunks of data about each song in the iTunes library. One of the fields of information is the Location of the file (towards the end of the chunk of data for each song). What is the file path that's given? This is where iTunes expects your song file to be. The above two ideas are about trying to get your files back to their expected locations.
This is a lot of words about a couple of real long shots. I'm sorry about your plight.

  • Sorry for my ignorance but i'm having problems printing

    Hi
I am very new to indesign and to print graphics.  I am not new to web graphics.
I am having problems printing a document that I have created in InDesign CS5.  Now I have learnt that I need to calibrate stuff with ICC profiles but I am not sure what I am doing.
Do i need to create aan ICC profile for my monitor and printer?
How do I get these to worl with InDesign?
I suppose I need to tell you what is going on.   When I print my document which is mostly different shades of grey, most of the different grey shades are nearly black and I can only just see the differentces in shades between the grays.  Now on my monitor they are distinctly different and can easily be seen.
So what steps do I nee dto get these colours right?
    Cheers

For good reproduction you need an accurate monitor profile (this is done with a colorimeter or spectrophotometer --that's overkill for just the monitor, but it can do the printer, too -- and profiling software) and an output profile for the printer and paper combination. The industry standard EyeOne colorimeter package is around $200, the spectrophotometer will cost quite a bit more.
There are services that will profile your printer for you, too, but learing to do it yourself will cost less over the long haul if you are really serious about the output quality. In theory you need to recalibrate and profile printers on a regular basis, especially when you change ink or toner. Out here in the real world, though, I suspect most of us who are not producing commercial color output just do it once and live with it until the results are no longer acceptable and the profiles need to be updated. I proof for internal use on my color laser, for example, and it hasn't been re-profiled for about three years. It no longer matches waht I see on the monitor exactly, but it's still fairly close and the prints are for my own use. I always get a proof from the printer when it's time to go to press.
Of course not all monitors and not all printers are created equal. Some monitors are incapable of showing fine gradtions in sahding in the dark or very light grays, and many, if not most, printers can't capture all of the shades you can see on screen.
For any given printer resolution, such as a 600 dpi printer, the higher the linescreen value used to print, the lower the number of shades that can actually be produced. Halftone spots (which is what are used to fool you into seeing gray using only black ink) are made up of groups of printer dots, and you can't print half a printer dot, so, for example, 600 dpi printer outputting at 100 lines per inch linescreen, uses about 36 printer dots to make each halftone spot (it might be a little different because the shape of the halftone spot is seldom a square). The best you can get from 36 printer dots is 37 levels (no dots to all dots), so the best you can hope for is about 3% steps.
Add in dot gain, the spread of ink or toner as it's absorbed into the paper and which is more prominent at darker shades, and your shadows tend to plug up, and the very light shades may not show at all. Less than 5% dot, for example is extremely hard to print on most lasers.
A really good book on the subject is Real World Scanning and Halftones, and a great book on color management in general is Real World Color Management.

  • 2014 Photosmart b210 networked printer can't scan

You might want to switch this over to a different forum .... doesn't have anything to do with laptop or notebook. .. sorry.
I have a Photosmart Plus All in One Printer Scanner.  The printer is wired to my computer using USB and OS is Windows 7. Recently, my husband got a new computer with Windows 8.1 on it.  I've managed to get the printer networked with his computer to print, but it doesn't scan.  Windows Fax and Scanner doesn't work. The Scan app in HP programs doesn't work either.  Just doesn't find a scanner.
I've tried sticking a shortcut of hpscan.exe on his desktop, but that didn't work either.  I've tried all the HP help programs and they can't find a scanning device either.
It would just be nice to be able to scan something from his computer.
I tried to connect the printer through wifi, but it never found the printer or the printer never found his wifi connection. Found everyone elses in the neighborhood, but not his. So I turned it off.
It's networked with wired through our D-Link routher.
Has there ever been a working fix for all in one printers AND scanners?

    Hi ElWel,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer - B210a not scanning to Windows 8.1 computer. I would try to first install the drivers and software. Here is a link to the software.
If that does not resolve the scanning try the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am trying to locate an HP Photosmart 7960 printer install disk. Any ideas how to get?

    Two questions....
I have an HP Photosmart 7960 printer and we have a new computer. We cannot find the install disk. I called HP and after about 2 hours of "help" was told that they can't support the printer anymore - it's too old. None of the on-line downloads from HP worked.
I have TONS of ink for this printer...
The ink cartridges are 56, 57, 58, and 59. If I cannot locate an install disk it may be worth my purchasing a printer that uses these cartridges. How would I find out what printers are available that use these cartridges?

Does anyone know what should i do?
    Thanks

I had the same issue. I found a solution under a different thread posted by scubastevee32. It worked for me. I copied pasted his solution below.
after countless hours of dead ends.... I found this to fix the problem(thank you "b noir")
hat one could be being caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)
so let's try swapping out your QuickTime.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • "(program).exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Hi, I was using Tweetdeck for the past few months without any problems. Recently, the application still works fine.. it opens as normal, all posts I am following appear etc., but when I try to send a tweet the application closes and I get the error
"tweetdeck.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I uninstalled tweetdeck and reinstalled it many times. Sometimes it would work for twenty minutes, other times not at all. I got fed up trying, so uninstalled it and downloaded Seesmic. This new application opened perfectly, all users I am following and their tweets updated perfectly, until again I went to post a tweet and it closes and I get the error
"seesmic desktop.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
As these are the only two applications I have used that give me this error, and are also the only two applications I have used that are related to Adobe AIR, I can only assume the problem is connected somehow?
I was wondering if any of you might have any suggestions on how I could fix this? I am not the most tech saavy guy, so any help would be greatly appreciated as I am starting to lose patience with it!
    Thanks in advance.

You might try uninstalling the AIR runtime and re-installing it. You might also try contacting the developers of these applications to find out whether the problem is related to issues they already know about.

Last summer I bought a music album from iTunes. I've already transferred all my purchases from my units, but somehow iTunes wants me to pay for the same album again. When I try to add it to my wish list it simply tells me that I've already bought that item.
And I've already tried to search for downloadable purchases.
So fact is established, I've purchased this album before but iTunes does not recognize it.
    What to do?

Hey sorry for the late response but I've been out of town.  I can copy and paste the email responses if necessary or desired, and if it's fixed already this is a moot point anyway, but basically they kept asking me for the order numbers for the two songs I already bought from the specific album I was trying to complete, which I eventually gave them - along with telling them multiple times that the Complete My Album feature wasn't working for ANY album.  They gave me two free song codes to compensate me for the two songs I bought, and then told me to go and buy the album at full price, but the ENTIRE TIME they COMPLETELY ignored that I was telling them that this wasn't an issue with one album but was a larger, seemingly systematic issue that other people were experiencing.  Even after I got the song codes I emailed them back and said AGAIN that this wasn't an isolated feature, and they just sent me the link to the apple Feedback page (http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html) and told me to submit my complaint there.  So, technically, my issue was never really "resolved," in that they never fixed the Complete My Album feature that I am aware of - or even acknowledged that anything needed fixing, but I haven't tested it since Sunday.
If it's working for you, then hopefully they fixed it!  I've noticed they've updated to 10.4.1, but the notes don't indicate they're fixing anything about the Complete My Album feature, so I don't know.

  • Sharing Photosmart 7960 from Windows 7 to XP

    Hello,
I have a Photosmart 7960 connected to a Windows 7 x86 PC. I would like to share it with an XP computer, but I cannot locate an installable driver on for the Windows 7 computer that can be downloaded to the XP machine at installation time. • Driver?  Networking Photosmart 7960

    Hi,
I have an HP Photosmart 7960 connected to a Netgear wireless print server. I am trying to set up the printer to work from my G4. I had no problems setting up my Laserjet on another port on this print server. But, when I try to find a compatible driver using the Mac printer setup tools, there are none listed for this printer. I tried to install the HP software, but the driver still does not appear in the list. I have searched the forum, and this issue seems to be common. However, I have not found a thread that contains a solution. BTW - the printer installs fine if I direct connect it the G4. Any help is much appreciated.

    Hmm...
Network printing/Windows printing only works with a driver that was meant for network printing. To use the OS X built-in CUPS network choices, you need a CUPS driver. For postscript printers, it's not an issue, because postscript is the native output of OS X, and can easily be routed to the various choices in Printer Setup.
Non-postscript printers are Very Different. Except for Brother, no manufacturer has provided CUPS drivers. Instead, what you get is Carbonized, OS9 legacy drivers, that have the comm protocol written into the driver (mostly USB). You can only print via the comm type written into the driver.
**Exception - when printing via an Airport/Bonjour enabled print server, where the software does a port redirection, USB output from the Mac gets routed to the USB port on Airport Express/Extreme.
Get the hpijs and ESP ghostscript driver set:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
(I'm pretty sure I said the same stuff in those links - I know this is hard to swallow, but you needn't listen to me only - further research about OS X and CUPS will help you understand this driver limitation)

Hi - thanks for the detailed reply.
Yeah it still pops up though I've stopped all the MS applications - Word, Excel, Outlook.
I Force Quit it in Activity Monitor but it pops back up again, almost immediately. It's like it's running in background, for want of a better term.
