Sort by Alias name in Webform

Greetings!!!
I have defined employee dimension as row in Webform and display property as "Alias". Now the requirement is, I need to display the employees based on sort by their alias names.

I am sure others will also share their opinions, but I think this can be done thru updating your metadata upload process. Let say you get your Employee list from PeopleSoft and update your employee dimension by using one of the ETL tools (ODI, outline load utility, HAL, etc). I am not an ETL expert, but I have seen this before where the sorting would take place in the ETL process, so the members are loaded to your application in ascending order. Makes sense?

How to sort the members by alias names

I am trying to create dimension build rule whicl will sort the dimension members in an ascending order, but it has to be based on the alias name instead of the member name.
I have tried both Parent-CHild and Generation reference but it doesn't work.
For example
for the city members PSE ( alias name Purchase), and USALB ( alias Albany) needs to be sorted by alias names
the current order is
PSE(Purchase)
USALB(albany)
but the requirement is to be
USALB( Albany)
PSE(Purchase)

Even with presorting the input, you still have work to do. By default, Essbase will add new members to the bottom of the list of membrers, it does not insert them into an existing hierarchy in the right places. If your trying to update existing hierarchies and are going the SQL route, you will need two rules (or 1 rule and a flat file). You also need to specify remove unspecified as part of the dimension build process.
HAve a dummy input (either sql or file) that gets loaded the first time. IT will basically wipe out all the members of the dimension, then your second rule (or same rule calling your SQL) can reload the dimension sorted in alias order.
IT is important that these two rules be done together (either in MaxL using comasin a single statement) or in a BSO cube in the outline before the outline is saved. Otherwise you will have deleted any data that existed in the database. It would be impartant that your SQL also pulls all members (including any special members)

You say you are going to change the stored procedure. That is not necessary, you could put an order by clause in your sql extract statement

Sorting by Member's Alias name during dimension build

I dynamically build/update an Employee dimension each month. I want to sort the members by their alias name, which in this case is the employee name. Has anyone done this before? The data file which I'm using to build the outline is already sort by employee name. The problem I have is each month when I do an update build, all the new members drop to the bottom. The option in the load rule definition to sort members is no good because that sorts the member by their ID and not by their Alias.Thanks for helping!!Peter

The best method is to clear all the members of the dimension and rebuild the entire dimension from scratch.This can be done manually through the Outline editor from the Essbase Applicaiton Manager or using an Incremental Build Dim from Esscmd or Maxl.Using Esscmd you it would be easiest to have a dummy build file with a single member and process that file first then process the real file. Use the remove unspecified option and set sorting to none. How can I programmatically get the alias name of an attribute of a VO given its column name?
Often alias and column names are not same when the VO is created (and I don't require them to be the same)

I will be more precise. When the VO based on a table comes out from the wizard, it produces xml entries like the following one:
<ViewAttribute
Name="ColumnName"
AliasName="COLUMN_NAME"/>There the column of the table on the DB really is COLUMN_NAME. The wizard mangles that name producing ColumnName as Name property.
This is ok. I don't want to change this default behaviour.
What I need is to programmatically get the value of that attribute given its AliasName property value:

That is, usually getAttribute expects what in the xml is the Name property. However, I want a sort of getAttribute() expecting the AliasName.

Solution manager is running on win2003 server with db2 database.When i m trying to connect db2 from command promt i m getting error.I m following these step.
1.Loging with db2 user
2.In command promt when i m tring to check the cfg file getting error.

Sort by alias

I need to be able to sort a large dimension by the alias. The situation is that the dimension is a company dimension with a company number which is the member and the company name is the alias. The company name is subject to change (corrections, name changes) but the company number doesnt change. I cannot make the company name my member name due to the fact that it is subject to change. Is there a way to do this?

Unable open Project details or a project from PWA Project server 2010 with Alias name

I am unable to open the Projects from Project center with the Alias name with the server name i am able to open the projects, version is project server 2010,
My system is ABC.DC.IN alias name i have given is DEF.AD.COM
With the system name i can able access PWA and all are working fine.
As i have observed with alias name i can able to login to pwa and all the server setting approval center all are working fine but only in the project center i am not able to open the projects (http://DEF.AD.COM/pwa/ProjectDrillDown.aspx .xxxx)
its is coming in the below of the ie.
But with Alias name these are the issues i am facing,
1.when longing with alias name its asking two times for user name and password
2.when i click on a project from project center its taking some time and asking for user name and password after i enter user name and password "PAGE cannot displayed" error i am getting.

As you said i have added in Manged Path as (Testpwa/projects.aspx as <Wildcard inclusion>) But still problem is there it is asking user
name password again if click on any project in project center and and showing page cannot be displayed error.

Curiously, the most recently inputted entries do sort properly, as do all company entries.
Does that mean "most recently inputted" AFTER you upgraded to Snow Leopard?
If that is true, it would mean that something about your existing records before the upgrade, for the records that are people contacts (with first and last names) instead of business contacts, do not agree with Snow Leopard and/or Snow Leopard's version of Address Book.
This may not be feasible, but if you exported the records with this problems and then imported them, maybe they will be re-inputted so that are properly sorted.
If you use Time Machine, maybe you can use the +flying through space+ interface to restore one of the records with this problem to see if the restore process makes the record sort properly.

Not able to get the Alias Name(Member Description) in FR by using Planning

we are using the 11.1.2 version in my project. While i am developing the FR repots by using planning database i am not able to find the Member name in my report, but i am able to see the option. MemberName, Alias and Both. If i check the Alias or both its giving only member name only.
Any ides on this or any post are there prior this .

Thanks for the info! It is strange that despite having alias name report is populating member name. It is not the first time strange things hapend with FR.
Can you please check if you are connecting to same data source where you see alias name? Can you pull alias name from SmartView?

How can I get the address book to sort by "Last" name (using v 31.3.0).

After a computer crash, I had to load Thunderbird (v31.3.0) back into my machine running Windows 8.1, and I successfully imported my address book back up file into Thunderbird (v31.3.0).
My problem is that I don't see an option to sort the address book by "Last" name, which was available with the version of Thunderbird I had before the crash.
How can I get the address book to sort by "Last" name?

In 'Address Book'
Select address book
'View' > 'Show name as' > 'Last/First'
The you can sort by Name.
Either click on 'Name' column header to change sort order,
If reversed, then click on 'Name' column header again to reverse the order.
Or
'View' > 'Sort By' > choose 'Name' and 'Ascending'

PSE6 - sort by file name

How to sort by file name in the Organize view of PSE6.
I tried Display->Folder Location. But there are still two pictures (#15 and #18 out of 130) which are shown at the end of the view.
More sort options in the thumbnail view would be helpful.

How can I make Sort by File Name the default in Adobe Bridge CS5?

The only online support I have found so far avoids the specific question. Must I assume that Sort by File Name cannot be made the default - and will revert to Manual each time I close Bridge?

If you have "start bridge at login checked" your changes will not keep unless you close program by clicking on File then Exit. Just closing window does not exit program.
Option is in advanced preferences.
