Sort key filters in managed metadata navigation settings in Sharepoint 2010

Hi All,
We have setup managed metadata navigation on our document libraries in SharePoint 2010. As part of this configuration, we have added content type as one of our key filters. However, we would like the list of content types in the drop down list in the key
filters section to be sorted alphabetically by name. Not sure how they are sorted by default, presumably by GUID.
Does anyone know a way to achieve this ?
Thanks in advance.
Damien.

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to sort alphabetically by name in the key filters section.
You can use a JQuery solution. The source code of the page looks like this:
<div>
<span>Content Type</span></div>
<div><span dir="none"><select name="ctl00$DropDownChoice" id="ctl00_DropDownChoice" title="Content Type">
<option selected="selected" value=""></option>
<option value="CT1">CT1</option>
<option value="CT2">CT2</option> </select>
<br/></span>
</div>
So, you can talk to the dropdown with JQuery like:
$(":select[title=’Content Type’]"). ;

  • Is there an avilable Fix for the Managed metadata navigation Bug in sharePoint 2013

I am facing this bug on my "Publishing Site ---> enterprise wiki Template" inside SharePoint server 2013. and when i tried to specify the target page manually as mentioned in this link it did not work also.
    http://sadomovalex.blogspot.com/2013/04/managed-metadata-navigation-and_21.html
So i would like to know if SharePoint has applied any fix this this Big?
    BR

    Hi john,
For this issue, I can reproduce it in my test team site, I haven’t seen the CU update includes this issue.
So, I would suggest you to use the workaround, set a friendly url for the subsite in the term store management settings page as described in the blog.

  • Issue when filtering with Managed Metadata Columns in Share Point Document Library

    Hi All
I have a document library, and a four Metadata Columns in it, with each column having a number of term in it. I have no issues in adding a document or in term sets. We have set property of Managed Metadata Column as Allow Multiple Values. So some of the items
in library contains values with only one term set. While other documents contains values with multiple values.
We have a number of country sites having the document library  with same metadata columns. In document library default view i am showing Metadata column, User want to filter the documents (view) based on Metadata column selected.
The filtering is giving inconsistent behavior. In production server it is giving in error with some correlation ID. On our development machine some times it is working fine and some other times it is given error of Validation of Viewstate MAC failed. i tried
    on different countries sites.
I checked we have already kept the Metadata Navigation and Filtering under site action feature as activated. It was even more weird when i deactivated the feature on one country site and the filtering was working fine. And on other country site where i
kept the feature as activated and the filtering was giving an error.
    Thanks & Regards
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
Have you checked the ULS error message for more information with correlation ID?
Please try using the library metadata navigation to filter these managed metadata columns value via configuring library "Metadata navigation settings" after you enabled the "Metadata Navigation and Filtering" feature,
then check if the issue would still persist.
Please see more information from below article with similar issue.

  • Benefits of using "Managed Metadata Navigation Filter"

    Hello,
I was interested in understanding the potential benefits of the usage of Managed Metadata Navigation Filter inside a library or list.
Is there a direct benefit apart from taking advantage of the actual navigation space for filtering, in comparison to just filter this metadata normally through the columns inside a view?
Any contribute or thought is welcome!
    Ioannis Glaros

    Hi loannis,
Metadata navigation enables users to dynamically filter and find content in lists and libraries by using a navigation hierarchy tree control to apply different metadata-based filters to the view.
The Metadata Navigation and Filtering features make it easier to work with very large lists and libraries:
1.Configurable navigation hierarchies and Key Filters
    2.Automatic index creation
    3.Indexed queries and fallback queries
For more information, yo can have a look at the blog:

  • Sharepoint 2013 Public Facing Website With Managed Metadata Navigation on Office365 E3 Trial Online

Warning: I am a complete novice in sharepoint
I have subscribed to office365 online trial Enterprise edition to learn sharepoint
I have created a Public facing Website
Through the site-collection setting -> navigation created a new metadata group named navigation and chose it for global and current menu(I switched on the publishing service)
Under the term Management I added two sub terms(for navigation group) with links to document and home.aspx
The team site immediately showed the global menu with only two options(home and document) as needed
Unfortunately the public facing site did not show any such options and instead showed a different menu(default one)
I tried to add the navigation snippet to the master page and it showed the same default menu.
The public site has no navigation option in Site setting either
QUESTION: How can I get managed navigation in public facing site? Is it possible or it is not allowed?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to use the Managed Metadata Navigation in Public Website.
Per my experience, we could not use the managed metadata navigation in public website, it is only available for the internal site collections.
    For more information:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154/t/166500.aspx
You can refer to the following article to know the public website and internal site collections on Office 365.
    http://blogs.sharepoint911.com/blogs/jennifer/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=76
As this is the forum for the SharePoint server, , I’m not sure whether it supported managed metadata navigation now.
I recommend you can post your question to the forum for SharePoint Online:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154.aspx.
More experts will assist you, then you will get more information relation to SharePoint Online.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Sorting of TermSets in Managed Metadata

    Anyone,
I need to sort my Term sets numerically.
I'm using code to render them to a JQuery Treeview.
    foreach (TermSet item in termgroup.TermSets)
            ..... build them here.....
M Sariman RKO Business Solutions Inc.

    Hi Mohamad Sariman,
I don't see a way to sort the terms as they were numeric.
    But you can :
Modify the numbers to make then be sortered the way you want. For example rename "2. Corres..." in "02. Corres...".
Or fix the sort order in the SharePoint user interface:
Go to the site where you want to custom sort terms (if you are updating a local term set).
On the Site Actions menu, click Site Settings.
Under Site Administration, click Term Store management.
In the Properties pane, select the Managed Metadata Service application you want, if it is not already selected.
In the tree view pane on the left, expand the groups to find the term set that you want, and then select the term set.
In the pane on the right, click the Custom Sort tab.
Under Custom Sort Order, select Use custom sort order.
Click the arrows in the boxes next to the terms to reorder the terms in the sequence that you want.
    Click Save.

  • How to Set Individual Managed Metadata Navigation Links to Open in New Window?

I am using a managed metadata term set for the global navigation in my client's site. Most of the global navigation links point to pages in the current site, and should open in the current browser window/tab as the end user is just navigating within the
site content. However, I have one particular node in the navigation term set that points to related content scattered around other external sites. The client wants these links to open a new window.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to set the target for navigation links in the term set. If I was using standard global navigation, I'd be able to select the "Open in new window" checkbox when setting up the link, but that option doesn't appear to be
    supported via MMD navigation.
    Any clever suggestions?
    Thanks!

I had a similarish requirement at a client once upon a time, they wanted any links that went outside of the intranet web applications to open in a new window.
The way we managed that was to use jQuery to overwrite the standard hyperlink references for any hrefs that didn't point to internal sites to use the same javascript functions that SharePoint used for links configured to open in a new window. It worked out
as being about half a dozen lines; check the URL and if it doesn't begin with a set range of options then overwrite the on click behaviour using standard jQuery behaviour.
If you want it site wide then you just add jQuery and the code snippet to the master page, if you just want it in some places then add a CEWP or a HTML form web part to the relevant pages.

  • Multiple filters in a drop-down list in SharePoint 2010 browser forms

I am using Infopath forms based on SharePoint 2010 lists. I am trying to filter a drop-down control based on inputs in two previous controls such that it looks up information in a list and returns options where A = A and B = B. This filter works when using
Preview in Infopath 2010, but does not work on the list itself on publishing; it only filters where A = A. The B = B filter is ignored.
    1) Is there a workaround I can use so that the browser form respects the filter in the same way the Infopath form does?
    or, if not:
    2) Is there a way to force SharePoint 2010 to open up "new item" or "edit item" in InfoPath instead of in a browser form?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your help!
    1) That was my concern. When I googled around, it seemed like it wasn't possible to do filters at all in DLL in browser forms, yet I had one that was working. So I was curious why one worked but two didn't.
    2) When I try to publish an InfoPath form from Designer that's based on a SharePoint list, the only option it gives me is to publish to that list, not to a document library.
2a) If I did figure out how to do it, would it still submit the information to the list? I don't want a form library scenario where each list item is its own form based on a single template, I want a list I can also manage with Access.

  • Best practices for permission settings in SharePoint 2010

    Hello,
Does anyone know if there is a good "best practices" paper\article for SharePoint permissions in SharePoint 2010. I have a pretty good idea of what i would like to do. The problem is that there is another group that handles security for the SharePoint
sites. It's really bad. Individuals have permissions and some of the group memberships really don't make much sense.
I am tasked with cleaning up our permission settings in our farm but I would like something to give to that team. I want it to show what it is we need to do and why. What the best practices are. It's also going to be good for me as I will use it
to compare with what I would like to see done.
Can anyone recommend a link that covers this in detail.

  • How to manage big custom list in SharePoint 2010

    Hi All experts,
I am working on Time Attendance Management System, where I have to generate a weekly schedule at once for each employee every year.
    Custom List columns are
    Employee Number
    Employee Name
    From Date(Mon)
    To Date(Sun)
Total numbers of employees are: 2800
    Eg: In January 2015(5 weeks): 5 * 2800 = 14000 items
    Likewise total, if I generate one year schedule which contains 53 weeks (53* 2800 = 148400 items/year)
How to overcome with the below problems
List threshold limit which is 5000
    Efficiency of list
How can I manage such a big list? Can someone please suggest me here?
    MercuryMan

    Hi MercuryMan,
Possible ideas regarding you problems are:-
    1. Increase size list and take timely back up delete list item from source list ( but problem of maintenance every now and then, not completely feasible.)
    2. Better to store all the entries in the database (ex: SQL) and so in this way you won't have to worry about growing list item numbers. But for this, you need database access to save and retrieve.
    Thanks,
    Vivek
