Sort order in Library Module

I am having a problem in getting the sort order I want in Library module.  I originally imported JPEG files into a subfolder "Best Of".  I then returned to some of those photos (the RAW file) and developed them, then exported them as JPEG files to the same "best of" subfolder.  Although I have specified "capture date" as the sort criterion, the photos are displayed with the first batch of JPEG files in order shot, followed by the second batch of JPEG's that I developed, also in order shot.  As a result, all the developed files appear toward the end of the film strip, not in the actual order shot.  I would appreciate any tips.

I can't replicate this issue with my Lightroom 5.5 on Windows 7
However, if you don't mind me thinking out of the box, it seems like you are doing a lot of work to obtain a result that can be done much simpler, if you are willing to use a collection for this purpose. Simply drag the edited photo into a "Best Of" collection in Lightroom (no exporting needed), and you shouldn't have any trouble getting the proper sort order inside the collection. That's a lot less work than exporting! Saves disk space too! (And bvefore you object and say you have reasons why you need these in a folder for non-Lightroom purposes, that's easily solved by using a collection ... just do the export from the collection into a "Best Of" folder)

  • Default Sort Order for Library View

    It would be fantastic if there were a user defined preference for a default sort order in Library view. For example, some users may prefer to always view the images by File Name, or Rating, etc, without having to change the sort order for each individual folder they view via Lightroom.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your suggestion Allan, but it doesn't work.
    I'm specifically referring to the defaults that Aperture 3 adopts when you use the "File, Import, Folders as Projects with the projects and albums setting.
    What I'm finding is regardless of the setting in the Library preferences, the default sort order for the project is Date and Manual for the album.
    Yet if I create a project manually the default sort order is as per the Library prefs. Strange.

  • Allow Sort Order to be configurable

    Apparently, when I set Sort Order in Library (I like it as Captured Time), it is reset to the system-defined default of Added Order upon a new import. I'd like the preferred sort order to be either settable as a preference, or at least have the setting be "sticky" so that it stays at what the user sets it as until the user changes it. Thanks!

    Hello,
    As you have discovered by default both dequeueing via a condition and dequeue via a correlation identifier have never honoured the sort order of the queue table.
    You can get it to honour the sort order by setting the following event at the session or system level or in the spfile/pfile as follows
    alter session set events '10866 trace name context forever, level 1';
    or
    alter system set events '10866 trace name context forever, level 1';
    or
    alter system set event='10866 trace name context forever, level 1' scope=spfile;
    Once this is set and a dequeue condition is being used an extra order by based on the sort columns of the queue table will be added to the sql which is executed internally.
    So this could have an impact on the dequeue performance when using a deq_condition or dequeueing via correlation id but ultimately you will have the ordering you require.
    Thanks

  • Document library items are not displaying in sorted order in sharepoint 2013

    Hi,
    I have a document library , I am storing document sets on it.
    28326 items are there in the library.
    I have configured sort on Name columns. Initially items are displaying in sorted order like (A,B,C,D,E...)
    Now Items are not displaying in a sorted order it is displaying like (A, B,C,D,E,A,C...) like this.
    Please help me on this sorting issue.
    Thanks,
    Samir

    Are the documents displaying in your image inside the document sets?  If so then your sets (folders) are displaying in alphabetical order and the documents inside the sets are displaying in alphabetical order.  This is what i would expect.

  • Library Module Subfolder Order

    Four months ago I took a vacation and created twelve subfolders to hold my images, each subfolder represented a particular site. Everything was good until today when I noticed that the subfolders are in alphabetical order rather than chronological order. The specified sort order is: Capture Time, and I've tried various combinations to try and get the subfolders back into chron order, but nothing seems to work.

    Jim, Elie:
    Thanks for your comments and suggestions. What's confusing me is that for about 4 months the subfolders were in chronological order. It's only recent that I've noticed them in alphabetical order. Perhaps I'm losing my mind, seeing things, or simply wishing them in order. In any event it doesn't look like there is anything afoul going on and that alphabetical order is the name of the game. Thank you both for your replies!

  • Sort Folders in Library by Date or other sort options

    I find myself hunting for folders that I've imported in the Library module.
    It would be so nice if there was an option to sort folders in the Library by date imported or date last edited or ANYTHING other than alphabetically. Seems like a easy and really obvious fix.
    Thanks!

    I too use folders as a primary means of organization. In fact, if Lightroom did not support folders, it would have been a deal breaker - I absolutely would not have bought it, period - its that important to me). We are perhaps a dieing breed - but not dead yet.
    I use collections extensively too for organization, but more for special purposes as opposed to a "lowest common denominator of organization" (folders).
    That said, I name my folders so they show up in the order I want them too - i.e. use a prefix (e.g. numeric) and they'll always be ordered properly. Interesting note: Lighroom is smart enough to auto-detect numeric prefixes and order them correctly without needing to pad with zeros (e.g. '2 Day After New Years' will come before '10 Resolutions - Holding Firm'). However, plenty of other software is not, so I pad anyway (e.g. '02 Day After New Years'... - that way they show up in the correct order when served via DLNA or anything that has alphabetic ordering but is not "numeric-prefix-smart" like Lightroom.
    PS - One of the functions of my up-n-coming Lr-sidekick-app/plugin duo is a (possibly full length) folder pane (which would generally be placed on an auxiliary monitor) - so folders are available in develop mode too. I may add a folder-sort option, although I don't need it m'self.
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Changing Sort Order on Filmstrip

    For some reason my sort order on my filmstrip is all mixed up.  It use to sort by earliest date to last date.  Is there a way to change this?
    Thanks for any help in advance!

    Go into Grid mode in the Library module. If the toolbar under the grid isn't showing, type "T". When you have a toolbar, make sure it has a "Sort" tool on it. (If it isn't there, click on the triangle on the right end of the tool bar and choose "Sorting" from the list).
    Now click on the text to the right of "Sort:" on the toolbar and choose "Capture Time". Make sure the a/z has the 'a' on top, or your sort will be in reverse order.

  • How do I get Iphoto to preserve the sort order when I transfer an album?

    Here's my problem. I carefully sorted my album of 230 photos manually. Each photo was then numbered from 1 to 230.   Then I used IPhoto Library Manager to transfer this album someplace else -- to my desktop, to a thumb drive, to Dropbox---   In every case, when I did that, the photos themselves transfered just fine,  but the sort order I had so carefully constructed has fallen apart and cannot by retrieved. Even  when I  close and then reopen an Album I have transferred to my Desktop, it loses its sort order.  This is driving my crazy  because I need to transfer this album so that it preserves the slideshow I have designed for it. A slideshow, of course, demands preserving the order of the slides.
    In short, how can I preserve the sort order of an album when I transfer it out of one library to another?

    If you're transferring to another library, why are you exporting to the Finder (which is what Desktop, thumbdrive and DropBox are). This doesn’t understand manual sorting from iPhoto.
    Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
    Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
    Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
    Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
    Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • Sort order in list wrong: in CAML and in view

    Hello,
    When I order my list with document sets by ID, the order is wrong. It is wrong in the list and with caml.
    This is my view (I just set the sort on the ID column):
    The first 4 objects are created by the Client Object Model; the last 4 are created by a SharePoint webpart that I developped myself...
    My code for creating document sets in COM is something like this:
    ListItemCreationInformation newItemInfo = new ListItemCreationInformation
    UnderlyingObjectType = FileSystemObjectType.Folder,
    LeafName = _strLeafname // = date in format YYYYMMDDhhmmss
    ListItem newListItem = myList.AddItem(newItemInfo);
    newListItem["ContentTypeId"] = targetDocumentSetContentType.Id.ToString();
    newListItem["Title"] = title;
    newListItem.Update();
    clientContext.Load(myList);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    The code in the webpart is this:
    SPContentType docsetCt = myLst.ContentTypes[p.GetFromResourcefile("xxxxxxxxxxxxxx")];
    Hashtable properties = new Hashtable
    {"DocumentSetDescription", ""},
    {"Title", txtTitle.Text}
    SPFolder parentFolder = myLst.RootFolder;
    int newId = GetLastId(myLst) + 1;
    DocumentSet ds = DocumentSet.Create(parentFolder, newId.ToString(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture), docsetCt.Id, properties, true);
    ds.Item["Title"] = title
    ds.Item.Update();
    why is the sort order wrong?
    if i do this query in the U2U Caml builder, the order is also wrong
    <OrderBy><FieldRef Name='ID' Ascending='FALSE' /></OrderBy>
    if i order by "created", the order is also wrong....
    i don't get it....

    Document Sets are great tools for grouping multiple documents together. However, if every set has exactly one document, it would be better to just upload the file and not place it within a Document Set:
    Uploading documents using object model - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ms454491(v=office.14).aspx
    Uploading documents using web services -
    http://cecildt.blogspot.com/2010/10/upload-documents-to-sharepoint-2010.html
    If you have requirements to use Document Sets, keep in mind that this adds a layer of complexity beyond a simple Document Library. Behind the scenes, each Document Set is treated as a separate folder, and although can you query items within it, there might
    be extra steps for getting the sort order to ignore the folder structure. Can you try setting the Scope to be "Recursive" and also specify that you are looking only for files and not folders:
    <Eq><FieldRef Name='FSObjType'/><Value Type='Lookup'>1</Value></Eq></Where>

  • Secondary Display image quality is poor (at 1:1) in Library module

    I'm not a frequent user of the Secondary Display feature, so I can't say state whether this particular issue is new in 2.3RC or if it also was seen in a previous version. I submitted a bug report since I searched but did not find any previous mention of this sort of thing. Anyone else notice this?
    Here's my problem: When I'm using LR's Develop module and activate the Secondary Display (SD) window, the SD images for all zoom ratios seem identical in quality (sharpness. color) to the images seen in the main screen--as expected. However when I switch over to Library module and use 1:1 zoom, the SD image becomes relatively degraded (i.e., quite blurry/pixelated) compared to the main window. When SD is set at the lower zoom ratios (still in Library module) its quality seems fine--i.e., more or less indistinguishable from the main screen. It's only when SD is used at 1:1 in the Library module that it appears "buggy".
    I'm using a Mac Power PC G4, OSX 10.4.11.
    Phil
    P.S. I should mention that the image quality at 1:1 zoom in Library Module's Secondary Display is not only worse than the main Library screen, it's also significantly worse (less sharp) than seen in the Develop module--and that's certainly not unexpected.

    >Gordon McKinney:What happens is the second display doesn't render a 1:1 for optimal sharpness.
    For me it isn't just sharpness. I can make a change that is fairly radical and have it show up immediately in the main monitor--both in the navigation panel and in the main display panel. The image on the 2nd monitor remains unchanged.
    If I then use the history panel to move back to the previous state and then re-select the final state the image on the secondary display
    usually, not always gets updated. Sometimes it takes a 2nd or a third cycle from previous to latest history state. This 'missed update' in the 2nd monitor doesn't happen 100% of the time, but it does happen quite often.

  • Slow performance LR 1.3.1 (Library Module)

    LR 1.2 is running OK on my iMac. A while ago I tried LR 1.3. The upgrade really slowed down performance. Mostly a lag in the sliders and navigation tools in both Library and Develop modules that made it unworkable to me. I changed back to LR 1.2.
    Since I want to import Canon G9 RAW files into LR, I upgraded to LR 1.3.1 recently. Performance of sliders and the navigation tool in the Develop module seems the same as in LR 1.2 (or maybe even a little better). Which means it is OK (workable). It still shows the blur when navigating a 100% zoomed image though. But the navigation tool in the Library module still has the same slow performance as it had in LR 1.3. Unworkable!!! I tried everything: optimizing, new catalog, rendering previews, etc.
    I need the Library module to work smoothly (as in LR 1.2) in order to compare images at 100% zoom. I am afraid I have to go back to LR 1.2 again and find another solution for my Canon G9 RAW files. Most inconvenient. I am very disappointed. Especially, since Adobe showed they CAN get it right with the Develop module in version LR 1.3.1...
    Oh yeah, my system specs:
    iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    3GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM (2GB + 1GB)
    232,89 GB Harddrive, 113 GB available
    ATI Radeon X1600 128MB
    Mac OS 10.4.11
    Please Adobe, make the Library module run as smoothly as the Develop module in version 1.3.2...

    The preview folder is 2,11 GB big. The .lrcat is 47 MB big.
    I opened a new test catalog. I imported 326 images. After the import I rendered 1:1 previews. It took a long time. Real memory used was between 700-1000MB. Virtual memory used was between 1000-1400MB. When it was done rendering it still keep on using 700MB real memory and 1000MB virtual memory. I had to close LR and restart. Real memory after restart was 75MB real memory and 375 virtual memory.
    But it didn't matter. The lag in the navigation tool of the Library module was still there.
    I noticed that when clicking in the navigation window there was less delay as when I slide the white square in the window (in Library module). In the develop module this seems the other way around. Sliding showed less delay than clicking.
    What's going on here?
    I also have a MacBook. Performance seems much faster than on my iMac overall. After creating a new catalog and rendering 1:1 previews, the lag in the navigation window seems less than before. But it was still there...

  • Sort Order of All Unplayed Episodes

    The sort order of all unplayed episodes is from Newest to Oldest, which is backwards for me.
    Why would I listen to the Newest episode first? It completely breaks any chronology of the podcasts!
    I found that you can change this for individual podcasts if you find the details by clicking on the podcast title to open its preferences, but the big list does not have the option.
    Please, give me the option to ORDER THE UNPLAYED EPISODES OLDEST AT TOP TO NEWEST AT BOTTOM!
    Thanks, in advance.

    This did the trick for me, Harry. Thanks!
    I was surprised to see you can/must set this on a podcast-by-podcast basis, but it is hard to argue with having finer control. Oldest to newest seems like a slightly more logical default, but that may just be personal preference.
    Not to split off in a new direction, but if I then subscribe to a podcast in Podcasts app that I already subscribe to in iTunes, is it recommended I turn off syncing between iTunes and my iPhone for that podcast? Or will this question basically go away when iOS 6.0 is released?
    Do the Podcasts app and the Music/iPod app share podcast files? Or will they be duplicated on my iPhone?
    Tom
    The podcasts will duplicate themselves on your device. I turned off podcast syncing on my devices. But the weird thing is that when I sync, podcasts then copy themselves to my iTunes library. Either sync or don't, but don't copy to both.

  • Sort order a mess

    Sort order in my iTunes library is a mess and it doesn't seem possible to change that. At least not in an obvious manner.
    I took care to number the names of the songs within an album: 01 first song, 02 second song, etc. Expecting that they will be sorted by name when getting an album. Not so. The order seems fairly random. It is of course intolerable, that the parts of my opera's are played in anything else than the proper order!
    Is there a remedy? How do I get the songs in the order intended?

    Yep.  It's out of control.  Like "schitzephrenic nonsense" out of control.
    Come on, Apple.  Get it together.

  • How do you change the sort order of mp3 songs?

    I have transfered MP3 files from my PC to itunes & iPod and created my own compilation albums for some of my favourite artists. However I would like to change the order of the songs but I dont know how to do this. I cant see what itunes or the ipod is using to determine the sort order!
    thanks
    Tom

    tinny's advice will work if you gave them an album name and they are actually listed in your library as an album. (Under Get Info, just tell it track 1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc.)
    IF you created a playlist for the album, click on the column for the track numbers and then click and drag the songs into the order you want.
