Sort properties in a Content Type

Hello,
In the definition of a Content Type, Is possible to sort the properties?
In the Content Administration Console, I want to show the properties in a explicit order. By default, it shows the properties in order of creation.
Do you know any way to do this?
I use WLPortal 10.3.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, there is no out of the box way to do this. You would have to drop down to the API level and build your own tooling to expose this type of feature. Sorry.

  • Properties panel (for Content Types) not showing when creating sharepoint based document

    Hello,
I've created three Content Types to populate when creating a new Budget document. The problem I'm seeing is that my pc always opens the Budget doc in Word Online and the properties box does not show. When I create a new Budget doc with my test pc, where
it always opens in Word, the properties box does show the three Content Types.
Is the idea of Content Type and the properties window supposed to work in Word Online?
My pc is Win 7, Office 2010 and IE 11
My test pc is Win 8, Office 2013 and IE 10
    Thanks

Hi Jimbo, they don't work online. You should change your library settings to open documents in client program.

  • Fix for issue where update KB2760758 broke multiline text properties field in custom content type

In September Microsoft Office update KB2760758 caused an issue with the multi-line field used in custom content type used in SharePoint 2010 document libraries.  KB2826026 apparently caused the same issue.
Users were not be able to save documents on the SP server (in a document library) as MS Word would prompt them with a "Required properties" error message stating: ".. correct the invalid or missing required properties".
Several sources indicated that this was supposed to be fixed in the December Office updates, but I don't see an update that affects MSO.dll where the problem originates.  Does anyone know which update fixes the issue?

I updated you on my blog post, but just to provide an update here for those searching, this issue is not fixed in the update to the MSO.DLL available in the Dec 2013 CU, and the product group currently has no ETA on a fix.
Of course, PSS should update me as soon as they do hear of an ETA from the PG.

  • Microsoft Office update KB2760758 breaks multiline text properties field in custom content type

Last week SharePoint users have reported issue with multi-line field used in custom content type used in SharePoint 2010 document libraries.
Users were not be able to save documents on the server (in a document library) as 'word' would prompt them with a "Required properties" error message stating: ".. correct the invalid or missing required properties"
After some research I found out that removing the following update KB2760758 would fix the problem.
Obviously this is not an acceptable solution and I would like to know if this issue has been reported and a fix would be issued sooner than later.

I got an answer already!  So it is a known issue and the update for this particular bug will be released in the Office 2010 December updates.
It has to do with a bug in MSO.DLL (which we knew already) with versions of the DLL greater than 14.0.710x.xxxx.  You may want to inspect further updates prior to December to validate that they do not contain an updated version of this DLL.  This
includes security and non-security updates that may be released between now and then.  Every KB has a listing of the DLLs it replaces, so be diligent about checking each update's KB for this particular DLL.

  • Content type (Audio) not appearing as choice for document properties in a document set

We've created a document set for which there are currently 11 Content types. When we upload a document to the document set we have the following problems:
one of the content types is not available (A customized Audio Content Type).
we can't seem to set the order in which the content types appear in the list (incomplete though it is)
we also can't set the default content type for uploaded documents.
Is there a way to resolve these issues?
    Notes:
Three are several document sets in the content hub but only one in the library where this content type is used.
    We're running SP2013
Thanks in advance for your suggestions in resolving this.
    Barry Cohen

    Hi Barry,
Based on your description, my understanding is that the content type called Audio is not available when uploading a document to the document set.
I recommend to check if the content type is added to the Allowed Site Types of the document set content type.
    Please follow the steps below:
Make sure that the content type has been added to the library.
In Library settings page of the library, click Document set content type under Content Types.
Click Document Set settings under Settings.
Check if the content type called Audio is included in the Content Types allowed in the Document Set. If not, please add it to the allowed content types.
    Thanks,

  • Returning content type of application/RFC822

I have a servlet which needs to return a data stream that the browser
shoule save as a file on the users local hard drive.
My servlet seems to work just fine with Netscape 4.7 but IE always saves
the original HTML Form page that called the Servlet.
Is there a bug in WL/IE or am I doing something stupid
here's my code - the method doing returning the data is the last one in
              this code - getResponseFromDispatch()

  • Updating Content Type Failed

I'm fairly new to Sharepoint and Infopath.  I hope someone here can help me.
I have a large Infopath form with ~90 fields on it.  When I try to publich to the server, I get "Updating [or Creating] Content Type Failed".
I determined this to be due to the number of fields and some sort of time out issue with Infopath.  I have seen a few other posts on that and the only solution I've seen is to publish with fewer fields - that does indeed work, but it doesn't solve my problem as I need all of these fields.
I've also seen a solution to publish with fewer fileds successfully and then republish with all you need and that the "Failed" message won't matter.  Kinda true, but then I have an issue with it no longer opening in browser.
So then, I tried publishing it to my desktop and uploading it through Central Admin, activating it to a site collection, and using it that way.  That actually works the best so far, but then I get no option to select my Parent Content Type - it just picks "Form" - and that also doesn't work for me.  I need to select Parent Content Type
Then, I tried to Create a new CT from scratch and point it to the form template I recently uploaded.  I get to pick my parent and all, but none of the promoted properties are there, so they don't show up in my workflow, and that's the end of that route.
Now, I am out of ideas (but you can't say I didn't try)
Anyone out there have any suggestions that could help me?
    Thanks

We were running into a similar issue where ~90% of the time the publication of a complex InfoPath form would fail. It looks like a timeout issue with the webservice, but it's hard to say. We came up with a different approach that seems to have solved the problem for us. I just posted details on my blog (http://acuffgroup.com/2009/01/21/tip-for-publishing-infopath-form-to-sharepoint-library/) but the summary is: don't have InfoPath re-create the columns on each publish event. Rather have it connect to existing columns, which you can specify in the publishing wizard. This change fixed our issue and looks like it's going to save us a lot of time moving forward. Check out the post and leave a comment if this helps, or if you've got other insights you can add.

  • If I want to create a set of hierarchical relational content types, how do I move from one to the other?

My scenario. I have been asked to create a series of content types to manage Report requests. A Report Base content type to be the parent, then three content types to extend that base to a Report Crystal, Report SSRS and Report SSIS. These top level
reports collect data once. Once an instance of the "Report Crystal" content type  has been created the Report Writer needs to fill out another content type "Report DataSource" related by the ID of the parent to track any
stored procedures used in the report, what database\s does it hit... Here is where I am lost on the how to fill out related lists. Do I add a calculated column that attaches the report ID the a URL? e.g. ..ReportDatasource/newform.aspx?ReportID=1 which will
then show me the form. Or has this changed in 2013. I am reverse engineering some 2007 code to try to figure this out.
The next step after that hurdle is, when the report writer has completed each data source entry, a workflow generates and email with links to a "Change Request" form. There would be one created for each row in the Report Datasource. The
DBA would have to evaluate each "Change Request" and either Pass or Fail each one.  This Pass\Fail parameter and a description would get recorded in a "Change Result Log".
I am wondering if a workflow replace the need for calculated columns or at least some. I think I have to have a calculated column in the initial "Report Crystal" column to fire off creating the first "Report DataSource" entry. And
then a calculated column on that to give the option of adding another entry into the "Report DataSource" list if there are multiple procedures for the report. But if the report writer sets a column in the "Report DataSource" as Ready
For Review" a workflow should generate the Change Request.
The flow is kind of set in stone but the structure is not. A very high level few of the data points

    Hi Developer_46038,
if for example all the properties and object are stated as list, i think there is a tool that overcome cross list.
    http://listrollup.codeplex.com/

you can also using dataview webpart to show the cross lists:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-designer-help/create-a-data-view-HA010094804.aspx
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-designer-help/connect-two-data-views-HA010169133.aspx
    3rd party: http://community.bamboosolutions.com/blogs/bambooteamblog/archive/2009/03/11/relational-database-capabilities-for-sharepoint-lists-cross-list-web-part.aspx
but i am not quite sure how crystal report will do, if you can make the crystal report as also list, i think its possible,

  • Visual Studio 2013 deploying incorrectly the content types of a document library

    Hello everyone.
I created a SharePoint farm solution in VS 2013. I add four content types (say, C1, C2, C3, C4, based on the Document content type) and I create a couple of document libraries (say, L1, L2). Now I add C1 and C2 to L1, and add C3 and C4 to L2.
When I deploy the solution from VS, I go to the site and found out that L1 has C1 and C2, as expected. However, L2 has C1 and C2 instead of C3 and C4.
I have reviewed for hours the xml files (Elements, Schema, etc.) and all IDs seem to be correct and all properties are in order.
Has anyone come across a problem like this? Any thoughts will be really appreciated, as I'm clueless and frustrated at this point, after hours of dealing with this problem.
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards

Hi Sohel, thanks for your reply.
No, I don't add them programmatically, I added the "Content Type" and "List" items to the VS solution. It generated some files, including Elements.xml and Schema.xml. Then I used the integrated VS designers to add the content types to
the list. A very run-of-the-mill solution, I think, nothing too fancy.
One thing I noticed is that I created a feature, and everytime I add a new list, instead of using the existing feature, it creates a new one, which I delete, and then add the list to the existing feature using the designer.
Finally, something weird happened today. I opened my VS, opened the solution and there was several feature files created out of the blue by the VS. I thought something was messed up with the Visual Studio Online connection, but it happens anyway when working
    in disconnected mode.

  • Search for documents using External Data on list content type

    hi,
say we have clients in an external database, we create the external content type for use in sharepoint 2013
we create two content types, Quote and Order for use in a library
we create a document library that uses the above content types
we then add a column for the external data ( in this case Client Name- but also include ID) , we have the option to copy to content type selected. so now library shows 'Client' and 'Client:ID'
I believe that column gets added to  list content types based on the 2 document content types.
so we have list items , which have a document , a content type and a piece of data from the external LOB system.
now that is fine, works great, however, how do you configure the content search web part to return documents based on the piece of external data - ie client:ID ? or Client Name ?
I can map the client:ID to one of the Int00 managed properties and crawl etc - but do not see a way to use that to return documents
any help would be appreciated :)
    thanks
    MrP

Create a scopr with that in managed properies and then u can get results from  external sources

  • Content type, list definition and List instance - query

    Dear all,
I created a list content type, list definition and list instance for a SessionsList.
I did mistake when created a event receiver file where field name is RegistrationsInfo - did typo error as RegistrationInfo. This field I want to make it as false in the ShowInNewForm= false
When I deploy it with event receiver file - I am getting stack trace error stating that the RegistrationsInfo field is missing.
Without event receiver file - when I deploy the solution and checked the field name - it is showing rightly as RegistrationsInfo.

Can somebody help me - how to overcome the RegistrationsInfo missing field - error(in the stack trace) when activating the feature in the training site?
    Thanks
    Sathya

    Hi Sathya,
Seems the field “RegistrationsInfo” is not been found when deploying with Event Receiver, a possible reason is that it might be damaged.
As a workaround, I suggest you retract the solution from your farm, make sure the “RegistrationsInfo” field is deleted using PowerShell, then create another project with the same
content and perform the deployment again.
About how to delete a field using PowerShell for your reference:

Feel free to reply if there any progress.
    Thanks

  • Link to Document Content Type issue - links not relative

I'm using the Link to Document content type in a library in order to link to documents in other libraries.  We just migrated to 2010 from WSS 3.0 (2007) and are having an issue.  We view our site internally thorough the internal machine address/name
and also have users connecting remotely from an external url.  In 2007, it didn't matter whether we were internal or external, all links were apparently stored as relative because the "link to document" items worked fine either way.  This
was despite entering the url fully and not relative.  When viewing/editing the properties of that item, it shows you the full url applicable to where you are viewing it...internal if internal, external if external.
However, after the migration to 2010, all links that existed previously are fine, but any new items created using link to document apparently no longer store them as relative so either the internal or external users get the wrong link.  For example,
if I put in the link as http://servername/library/doc the external users get that same link and it doesn't work, since it should be like https://myurl/library/doc.  Viewing/editing the properties of the item shows an absolute url of whatever location
the item was added.  For instance if I'm connected externally and add an item, even if i only enter it as relative, it creates the link as https://myurl/library/doc and then the internal users end up having to connect via that url and that is just a pain
due to AD and certificate issues.  The internally created links are obviously not accessible at all from the outside.
I've also tried storing the link as relative when creating the item but it seems to overwrite it with the absolute link.
This is causing quite an issue with us.  Does anyone have any insight as to what is going on and how to fix it?
    thanks!

Hmm...I thought I had the thread set to email me if there were replies and I never received an email so I thought there were no replies.  I came back to this since another issue cropped up that is related and there were replies!
I cannot recall how things were set up exactly in 2007 and there's no way to look back now.  I'm a novice when it comes to AAM/DNS/IIS really.  Maybe you can suggest what it should look like?
We have our site which is accessed internally by http://machinename .  Externally, we use https://sharepoint.mydomain.com .
In AAM we have http://machinename listed in the default zone with the same url for internal and public.  We also have https://sharepoint.mydomain.com listed, in the internet zone and it also has the same url for both internal and public.
In IIS, the sharepoint site has bindings for port 80 and 443, but nothing specific to https://sharepoint.mydomain.com
DNS....I'm not sure what should be here, if anything.
We can access the site just fine externally, there are just a few instances where some links do not work correctly and point to the internal url instead of external when you are external.  The original post is one time and the other, found the other
day, is a search box webpart that points to a relative url for the results page but externally it ends up going to the internal url.
    I'd appreciate any guidance.  Thanks!

  • How to customise and navigate Content Type - SharePoint 2013 List

I need some advice here. I'm customizing forms that have list built using Content Types. I noticed the difference in the links is something like this below I have one default content list type called item and the other one is called College Form
    Item is ContentTypeId=0x01003FF12EB7EAB88340BEE53D34C38A906200147E508F34B9164ABE555FF698569C27
    College Form is ContentTypeId=0x01003FF12EB7EAB88340BEE53D34C38A906200147E508F34B9164ABE555FF698569C27
When doing my customization of the form I would like to hide some fields and show some based on the content type. I know by default the content type does that. But im using JS to hide some fields but don't know how i can do this or what values to use to
    make this happen.
Any ideas and thanks in advance

WPQ2FormCtx.ItemContentTypeId will give the content type ID of the item in each of the forms newform.aspx, ediform.aspx and displayform.aspx. You can also use WPQ2FormCtx.ItemContentTypeName, if you want to compare name instead of Id. Here is a JQuery
code to hide fields in the forms:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
        if(WPQ2FormCtx.ItemContentTypeId == '0x010400C36D463A4788AD4AAF5F85C02DA29F8E') {
        $("h3.ms-standardheader:contains('Body')").closest("tr").hide();
    </script>
Note that this script assumes the JQuery is already referenced in the site. You can place above code in Script Editor web part in each of the forms.
Also, beware that this way you can hide the field from UI, but user can still open the page source and find the actual information in the hidden field.
If the requirement is to completely hide the field data then you will need to set the field properties like showInEditForm, showInDisplayForm and showInNewForm

  • How to Enforce Sharepoint 2013 content type validation rules when modifying document using Word 2013

    Good day,
I have two date columns (Start Date and End Date) in a content type in Sharepoint 2013.  A file library uses this content type.
In the document template I have the two dates (Start Date and End Date) showing in the Document Panel.  I can edit them well enough and they show in the document correctly.
In the content type I have validation rules that the End Date must be greater than the Start Date.
The question is, how can I enforce this validation on the client side in Word.  Is there anyway to achieve this?
The user will not have access to change the document properties in Sharepoint. (Not my call)
    Thank-you!

The "panel" is called the Document Information Panel in SharePoint. You can customize this using InfoPath from the page where you created / edited your Content Type. Go to Settings, Site Settings Content Types, edit your content type, click Document
Information Panel and then click "Edit this template". In InfoPath you can create a Rule to enforce your dates.
This may require the Enterprise Edition of SharePoint to support the InfoPath Forms Services.

  • Updating Word templates in Content Types - changes not appearing automatically

    Hello
I have a SharePoint site where I have existing content types all with MS Word templates assigned to them.  I wish to change the Word template so it looks different.
I have saved my Word template as a .dot file and have edited my content type so it points to the updated template in the 'Advanced' area of the content type properties.  When I look at my template via the 'Edit Template' in the 'advanced' area of the
content type it is fine (as it is when I look at the template file via explorer view) but when I create a new document based on the content type it is referring to the old template.  Furthermore, I have renamed some of the content type names but they
    have not updated either.
Any ideas?  Is there a background process that runs to help with this?

Sorry, just re-visited this and i think i might have missed an obvious answer.
SharePoint tries to protect you from yourself.
That measn that it will not, in some cases, push changes down to lists. For example if you were to delete a column at the site level which is also in place on lists SharePoint won't delete it from the lists.
I'll bet that If you look at the content type at the library level it's showing the old details still.
