Sorting out videos

I recently bought an episode of The Office from the ITMS. It sorted everything out properly on the screen, categorizing it into the TV Shows section under "The Office Season One." However, the videos I've been uploading from my hard drive won't sort out the same way. When I upload these videos to my iPod, it just dumps everything into the Movies section. I've tried editing the videos in iTunes to resemble the settings for the video I bought off ITMS, but to no avail. It still just dumps everything into movies. Is there something I am missing here?

Make it simple. Just add a playlist just like songs. Drag your videos into there. Access them that way or through movies.

It is best to keep a copy of the entire contents of the camera. You need all the folders, even the empty ones. If you have this, you can import the footage into iMovie or Final Cut later without losing anything,
An easy way to do this is to go to your iMovie import screen. Toward the bottom, it should have an option to Create Camera Archive. This will transfer all the contents of the camera to your hard drive, and can be imported later.
If this footage is important to you, I would recommend that you also back it up to a second hard drive.
Once you have it stored and backed up, it is safe to delete the files from your camera.
To answer your other question, if you have already imported the AVCHD files to iMovie, then yes you will have them, and yes you can use them in other programs. On import, they are converted to Apple Intermediate Codec, which certainly any Apple video editing program can read. I don't know if they would be easily readable on Windows. When they are converted to Apple Intermediate Codec, they get 6 to 10 times larger than the files on the camera. This is because AVCHD is a highly compressed codec, and not suitable for editing.
So, yes, you have the AIC copy of your events in iMovie, and that is probably enough, but it is good practice to keep the raw AVCHD files. This lets you keep a copy in a compressed form, and gives you a copy that is exactly as you took it on the camera, before any processing.

Sorting out video codecs

I've never bothered to understand all these video codecs available in drop down menus. There's a bunch. I found an article at Wiki that goes into it in great detail. Apparently, many of them are just brand name versions of the same codec. Thus far, I've narrowed down my choices to:
1. PP's H.264 for Web. (the bit rate is very adjustable)
2. CineForm AVI for playing on computer. (larger files but looks great)
3. Mpeg2, of course, for DVD/Blu-Ray.
Are there better choices?

I assume that you do mean CineForm and not Cinepak (by Radius). The one limitation with the AVI will be the lack of X-platform support on the Mac, should any clients be on that platform. In that case, you might want to consider going the .MOV route with the Animation CODEC. Both platforms seem to also handle MPEG-2 pretty well. WMV would likely work only on the PC, regardless of which "flavor" you use.
Some have had better luck with the MainConcept H.264, than with the Apple version. Have not tried them both, so I cannot comment directly.
Yes, CODEC's are a bit of alchemy, and some of it/them go back to the dark ages.

How to sort out different issues on Satellite A505-S6973

Can anyone tell me, if the warranty period on my laptop has not passed, can i return my laptop to toshiba and have all my issues sorted out. Would there be a cost to do whatever repairs software related needs be done and how i am supposed to go about it because my laptop is beginning to have all sorts of little errors, i noticed that my harddrive has 156gb used although i have about 60 gigs in use.
A couple multimedia buttons aren't working but i touch them, my touchpad doesn't turn off with the hard button unless i turn it off using the FN key and my processor runs low but when i use a program i see it's reaching between 85 to 100% utilization.
I really like this laptop, but the issues i'm having i highly doubt it should operate this way.

Software issues are not covered by warranty!
This means that you will have to pay for everything if the ASP technician would not find any problems!
This is why you should recover the notebook in order to check if its only a software related issue.

This is not a bug or hardware problem. You will notice this CPU behavior because the CPU supports an feature which helps to save the power and reduce the heat dissipation

If the accounts are on the same computer, you should not have to use a different e-mail address. If your son's account is not an Administrator account, this may be the issue. Are you able to launch VirusBarrier from your son's account from Applications>Intego?

Here's my latest list of complaints to Intego regarding Family Protector. I thought it should be shared:
I have been using Family Barrier for a couple of years now, and may I say, it has so many problems that as soon as I can find a better alternative, I'm gone. Until that day, however, I expect some solutions.
Issue #1: The application is 100% unreliable. The chances of it doing its job on any given day are seriously 50/50. Or worse. This alone renders the program useless. But that's not all.
Issue #2: It's unbelievably easy to override. Are you seriously unaware that all one has to do is change the date on the computer to one before Family Barrier was installed, it will 100% not do its job. Awesome. This is straight out of Hacking 101, and any program should be able to defend against it. Otherwise, any demo I try download can be made to work forever. While some are, most are not. Get it together, People.
Of course, making time changes impossible can be done from my end by the keeping admin password unknown to the protected user, but what if the protected user needs admin access? That happens to be my case. Nonetheless, I was willing to block admin access to fix the problem until you could tell me that YOU'VE done your job and taken care of it (you will tell me that, right?). But then I was left with Issue #1 (remember? the one where it only works 50% of the time at best?), so what's the point?
I thought I'd try reinstalling it again, just for fun. I've done this before and it's worked TEMPORARILY (tell me the truth, would you pay for an application that constantly had to be re-installed so that it would work for a while? the truth, now). Why am I not surprised that now even that simple process is f'ing up. I punch in my name and serial and it won't accept it. Is there no end to the awesomeness? Somehow, I think that there is not.
It's especially frustrating that there is no support number for me to call, forcing me to have to go through THIS process, which makes your job so much easier and is so much less helpful for your customers) just to get any answers... eventually.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you install the new iWork version, the old iWork version is kept, so it looks like you are opening your old version.
To fix this, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly. Open all documents from this version. I don't recommend you to delete the old Numbers version in case you need it.

How can i sort out the N lowiest elements from an 1D array faster than using the build in sort function (1D-array) in Labview?

I need an algorithm that is based on the same sorting-algorithm that Labview uses (or one that is just as fast) but it only needs to sort out the N lowiest elements (and the N-element output array don't need to be sorted).

Resolution

Back up your iTunes before doing any sorting. If you remove something you didn't intend to then a backup is the best way to get it back.

It was tele tech. I couldn't open my Page Numbers etc. Frist tech chat idiot - following dumping few things in bin, asked me yo upgrade to Yosemite. But the problem still persists. This morning I was asked to do it via telephone and like yesterday, after wasting 20 min, I was put to this apparent Tech Queen ( my foot!). She eventually decided to reinstall Yosemite asked me to connect my external drive while I connected to her. She was moving cursor asking me to move files and delete and I followed her like a dummy. It took 3/4 hours and she called me 3 times once the lengthy process was completed. I suspected from the beginng for the fact that why should be asking me to click all my backup from the very beginning! Eventually she said I deleted... Or someone else or may be my children ! It was a blatant lie. I run my small business from home and I was simply staying in front of the Mac whole day! Children were at school. Then she said I must have used another computer! I only have laptop and the iPad. I will talk to their manager first thing in the morning. In the mean time please let me know as to how can I transfer photos, music etc back to my laptop from my Iphone and IPad .? I am will connect to laptop as I am worried the new BLANK iPhoto may supersede iphone/iPad stuff? Will it? Please let me know. I am not a very tech savvy person. I am trying to sort out a friends macbook that has been subjected to a scam attack. I am a pc user so am struggling here a bit. Her machine seems to have been attacked by a program called MacSecurity. It is telling her that she has a number of viruses, etc and she needs to register to get rid of them. A **** page keeps trying to open as well. This type of scam is often found on PC's and is easy to remove.
After scouring the internet for solutions and came accross 2 programs that are said to remove it - I installed them and neither have worked. The programs i tried were MacScan 2 and iAntivirus. Both are free programs.
Can anyone help please.

Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications. One person had re-installed their operating system. It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize. Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem. Do this manually, not with Software Update.

Help me sort out the problems with Java 2 SDK SE

I install Java SDK 2 standard Eddition version 1.4 in my computer (Window NT4). When I test the installation by typing in "java -version", it displays the following message.

i might guess that you have j2sdk1.4.0\jre\bin on your PATH, but not j2sdk1.4.0\bin ...

Why won't Apple sort out greyed wifi?

My phone is nearly three months out of warranty. I took it to our nearest Apple store(70 miles away) and was told that it's not an uncommon problem (and after reading other pages about it, I feel it's quite a common problem that Apple DO know about). It's an unrepairable problem I was told but I could have a replacement phone for £139.
If I had dropped or damaged my phone in any other way, I would've paid up for a replacement but when it's a hardware problem that I have no control over, why should I pay?
My phone contract is for two years so they obviously expect the Iphone to be fit for purpose for that long. Can and is Apple trying to sort out this problem?

First, we're users here, not Apple. We cannot speak to what Apple's doing any more than you can.
Second, do you know how many millions of iPhone 4S's there are out there? Because a handfull of people are having your isses, in no was does this mean there's a common problems.
Apple, like all reputable manufacturers, warranties their hardware to be free of defect for ONE YEAR. You have the ability to purchase Apple Care in many places, to extend this to TWO YEARS. Apple lived up to it's contractual obligations with you. Had you had a hardware failure within a year, your device would have been replaced free of charge. The fact that you're under contract with your mobile provider is irrelevant. That's between you and your mobile provide, not between you and Apple.
Your warranty expired. Period. That's life. Pay for an out of warranty replacement device or get a new phone (Apple or other). Move on.
