Sorting xml with the dom parser

Hello,
Does the DOM parser have any inbuilt soring methods?

I'm not sure what you are looking for. XSL has sort keys on xsl:apply-templates or xsl:for-each

• Updating XML file using DOM parser

Hi,
Can someone help me, how to update following XML file using DOM parser.
The following is my XML file.
<students>
<student>

</student>
<student>

</student>
<student>

</student>
<student>

</student>
<student>

</student>
</students>Consider, I will input 2 fields, ie., id & name. For the matching Id, the name has to be updated.
Though, I have achieved this, but I am unable to update the value for 3rd record, & 5th record ie., id=3 & id=5. Since, these are blank.
Thanks.

Some
elements have a child node which is a text node. From what you say it appears you know how to change those text nodes.
The other
elements don't have any child nodes. But you want one. This suggests to me that you need code that creates a text node and adds it to the
element as its child.

• Detection of encoding of XML file with the StAX parser

Hello!
I am using the StAX parser to read an XML file which can have different encodings.
I don't know how to detect the encoding before reading the file.
This is the way I instantiate the reader now:
XMLStreamReader xmlr = xmlif.createXMLStreamReader(new InputStreamReader (new FileInputStream(inputfile), "utf-8"));
Is there any way to make the reader detect the encoding with StAX? Is it possible detect the encoding with SAX or DOM?
Just paste some piece of code and you will help me a lot!
Thanks,
Lara

XML parsers are supposed to auto-detect the encoding of their inputs. The SAX and DOM parsers built into Java, as well as others like Xerces, do that. I don't know whether your StAX parser does, but it should. There is a standard procedure for determining the encoding that is described in the XML spec.
However if you have malformed XML that fails to declare its encoding properly, then none of those parsers will be able to fix that problem for you.
Here's the simplified rule as it applies to most files: if the XML file doesn't have a prolog, or if it's prolog doesn't specify an encoding, the parser will assume the file's encoding is UTF-8. If the XML file does have a prolog that specifies an encoding, the parser will assume that encoding.
Unfortunately it is common for people to write XML files that don't declare an encoding, but to forget to encode the file in UTF-8. Then you have a file that is actually encoded in (e.g.) Windows-1252, but the parser believes it is UTF-8, and this fails when there are non-ASCII characters in the document.

• Validate xml with PL/SQL Parser

Hi,

Here's an example:
set serveroutput on

p xmlparser.parser;
d xmldom.DOMDocument;
dtd xmldom.DOMDocumentType;
v varchar2(32700);

v := '<!ELEMENT Department EMPTY>';
p := xmlparser.newParser;
xmlparser.parseDTDBuffer(p,v,'Department');
xmlparser.setDoctype(p,xmlparser.getDoctype(p));
xmlparser.setValidationMode(p,TRUE);
xmlparser.parseClob(p,good);

• Namespace and the DOM Parser

If I then introduce a section with a namespace reference I find
the parser throws out errors.
Do I have to tell it that namespaces are being used? if so how?
Do I have to use namespace through out and not use the DOCTYPE
tag?
Please help.
Also I have scouted around the documentation and find the stuff

I have found and tried to use the DOMnamespace example in the
sample downloaded. It works fine, except that it will not
validate the document.
Is this a problem with the parser not understanding the xmlns
attribute?
Also is there an option to be able to get the parser to expand
the default values defined in the dtd attribute definitions.
If you run IE5 you get the attributes expanded.

• Problems with the Actionscript parser

We just upgraded to MX 7.02 from MX 6.1 here. I've been
playing around with the new flash forms and actionscript to see how
easy it would be to replicate some of the things we did with
javascript in actionscript.
While debugging one of the scripts I noticed that whatever
parses the actionscript for syntax errors was picking up illegal
keywords in areas where keywords aren't typically allowed. It finds
them in comments, strings, tooltips, and just about anywhere
actionscript is allowed. Unfortunately, three of the keywords
(import, new, and delete) are pretty common in comments and
tooltips.
I didn't notice anything about this in the known issues for
7.02. Is anyone aware of a current hotfix or one coming soon to fix
this issue? Are there any workarounds or should I just try to avoid
the use of those words until the next update?

• Using perl with the HTTP POST method to exchange XML with the Auth service

Has anyone written a perl script to do this yet?
I've been trying all day and keep getting "Content is not allowed in prolog.
I've used the example xml from the docs

<AuthContext version="1.0">
<Request authIdentifier="0">
<NewAuthContext orgName="dc=exampleorg,dc=com">
</NewAuthContext>
</Request>
</AuthContext>
Then I read the python post at http://swforum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=79&threadID=22370
and the error changed to Premature end of file.
this is the portion of perl that is getting the error:
use strict;
use LWP::UserAgent;
use HTTP::Request::Common;
my $browser = LWP::UserAgent->new(agent => 'xml client');
my $greeting = <<GREETING;

<RequestSet vers="1.0" svcid="auth" reqid="1">
<Request>

<AuthContext version="1.0">
<Request authIdentifier="0">

</RequestSet>
GREETING
my $response = $browser->request(POST 'http://idpoc1.test.belo.com/amserver/authservice',
Content_Type => 'text/xml',
Content     => [xmlRequest => $greeting]
print $response->error_as_HTML unless $response->is_success;

Your problem seems to lie in the build of the request. Here you use the "sample=$data" which will invalidate the XML itself. I've tested your code changing only the build of the Request and this works fine! Given an XML like this :

<data>
<txnInfo sourcePartnerCode="6" txnDate="2005.09.08"/>
<unitOfWorkInfo sourceTicketID="SourceTicket_1" diaryEntry="Diray_1" Status="Status_OK"/>
</data>
The Server Stub should look like this :
#!/usr/bin/perl
use XML::Simple;
use Data::Dumper;
print qq{Content-type: text/xml\n\n};
if($ENV{'REQUEST_METHOD'} eq "GET"){
$my_data = $ENV{'QUERY_STRING'};
print "jfghdsfjghsdg$my_data";
} else {
$data_length = $ENV{'CONTENT_LENGTH'};
$bytes_read = read(STDIN, $my_data, $data_length);
print "$bytes_read, $my_data";
$xml = new XML::Simple (KeyAttr=>[]);
print "have passed XML::Simple creation\n";
$data = $xml->XMLin("$my_data");
print "i want to be here \n";
$transcode=$data->{txnInfo}->{sourcePartnerCode};
#print "$data->{txnInfo}->{sourcePartnerCode}";
print $transcode;
CASE: {
($transcode==6) && do {
print "i am here";
$lstmoddat=$data->{txnInfo}->{txnDate};
$srctktid=$data->{unitOfWorkInfo}->{sourceTicketID};
$actvtylogdesc=$data->{unitOfWorkInfo}->{diaryEntry};
$status=$data->{unitOfWorkInfo}->{Status};
$command='bop_cmd -f update1.frg "upd_stats("""Administrator""","""'.$srctktid.'""","""FIP""","""what is this???""")"';
print "$lstmoddat $srctktid $status \n";
print "$command";
system("$command");
print "i am done";
last CASE;
And the client stub should look like this :
use LWP::UserAgent;
use HTTP::Request;
use IO;
#use XML::Writer;
my $ua = LWP::UserAgent->new(env_proxy => 1, keep_alive => 1, timeout => 30, );
open INPUT, "<AcceptIncident.xml";
my @greeting = ; #-- Read file containing XML struct to send
print "Hello World\n";
my $data_to_send; #-- And build a string of it
foreach my $newItem (@greeting) {
$data_to_send = "$data_to_send$newItem";
print "Sending \n";
my $head = HTTP::Headers->new(Content_Type => "text/xml", "ID" => "sample");
my $req = HTTP::Request->new('POST', 'http://matrix/cgi-bin/test1.pl', $head, "$data_to_send");
my $response = $ua->request($req);
print $response->as_string; Also you should make sure you have both HTTP::Request amd XML::Simple installed, orelse this will not work.
Hope this is of some help to you.
