Sound cards
There is a problem in Labview that you cannot read and write to the
sound card in the same program. If you do this the input and output
signals become mixed together. ie you cannot isolate the output
independantly from the input. I read somewhere that you need to install
a second sound card. Has anybody ever done this in LabVIEW? Even
installing two working sound cards sounds daunting.

Well, Probably you can do what you want with only one card.
Open the "windows mixer", "sound control" or whatever is call in your computer. In "record options" select, lets say, "line input". In "playback options" check "line input" to be "silent". This should avoid your input signal to be heard, and mixed with your generated signal
Bear in mind that there are different sound cards an sometimes, mixers an options are not the same, so try combinations until you can get your goal.

Pulse Audio no longer detecting sound card; ALSA still detects
After a recent update, pulseaudio has stopped detecting my sound card. ALSA still detects my soundcard, and I was able to find the following in the verbose output of starting pulseaudio.

I'm not at all familiar with pulseaudio configuration. Does anyone know of a good way for me to resolve this issue? Have I even identified the correct issue?
UPDATE:
I was able to work around my problem for the moment by symlinking the configuration file to the location that pulseaudio was actually looking for it
# mkdir -p /usr/share/alsa/ucm/HDA\ Intel
# ln -s /usr/share/alsa/cards/HDA-Intel.conf /usr/share/alsa/ucm/HDA\ Intel/HDA\ Intel.conf
Although this does get my sound back, it is a hacky work-around and obviously not ideal. Anyone who knows a bit about pulse configuration, I welcome your input here

I was having the same problem. The funny part was it started happening (and not always) after KDE says that the Intel HDA device is "gone" and asking me to remove it from my configuration. Even by saying no it wouldn't work. Killing pulseaudio with
pulseaudio -k
would have everything fallback to Alsa but starting pulseaudio again wouldn't work.
Rebooting right away doesn't take care of the issue either but after a while the problem would go away...

Dv6265us connexant PCI sound card + windows 7 = Not working
So I'm here becuase I can't find a driver on my own. I've scoured the internet for hours, finding very little to help with my issue. So here goes...
I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 (Dv6265us), and ever since I installed window 7, Windows cannot figure out what drivers to install for the PCI sound card. The best I've found so far says this:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it"
"Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio"
"If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."
Now here's the funky part...everywhere I've found information on my laptop, it says I have a Conexant PCI sound card. If I'm wrong I would love for someone to tell me; better yet, a link to a download to actually be able to use the PCI sound card. Right now the card is under other devices and is listed as "PCI Device".
Now the Link I've provided from the conexant site will tell you this under PC Audio Support - Windows® 7,
"Conexant develops audio solutions that are used in a wide range of products including personal computers. We provide customized audio drivers to our customers, which include major computer manufacturers globally. At the request of these manufacturers, Conexant does not provide end-user support or drivers for PC audio products. If you have an issue with the audio configuration in Windows 7, please contact the manufacturer of your computer.
I tried calling HP support, but they wouldn't even answer my yes or no question... "Do you have audio drivers for my laptop that will allow me to hear sound?" Instead of saying yes or no, I was told that I needed to pay fifty to one-hundred dollars;....fifty dollars for a one time fee of telephone service, or one-hundred for the year. I even went as far as asking..."if you can't fix my problem, do I get a refund?" I was told no...so here I am. I've had problems before with hp...but this is rediculous, and whats worse is from the way things look, Connexant was told NOT to support their own product, or provide drivers for windows 7 by their customer(HP). I realize everyone is hurting for money, but **bleep**, this is a new low...To answer your question, there are no windows 7 drivers for that model notebook. The notebook was designed for Windows 2000, Windows xp and windows vista.
This is one of the issues with upgrading the OS on a computer before checking the specs of the hardware.
I do understand the frustration but it would be more beneficial to revert back to the original OS that the notebook came with. That is what the HP support desk will have you do to prove functionality of the notebook should you have paid for the Diagnostic Support.

Unable to make microphone to work on NVIDIA MCP55 onboard sound card
Hello.
Some time ago, I bought a nice HP xw9400 Workstation (with Dual Core AMD Opteron 2216) from Germany. Despite it's starting to become old by today's standards for some stuff like gaming, it's still quite okay to use and the SAS HDD makes it boot fastly. And it has one of the best cases, you can plug PCI/PCIe/PCI-X cards very easily and it's very nice to change or add HDDs. Maybe I'll upgrade the CPUs (I can upgrade the bios and it seems it can support better CPUs) if I find them on eBay or other place.
I have less problems with Arch than the rest of distributions, but I still have weird issues. Despite my computer hardware is somewhat old, I still experience weird problems everywhere (it seems I have some kind of weird "luck").
I have problems using my microphone under Arch with "NVIDIA Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)" onboard sound card , here is the relevant info.

I also tried create /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add the following line to it...
options snd-hda-intel model=6stack
And no luck! I tried it and still appear both "Rear Mic" and "Front Mic". I'll provide a screenshot later.

I had an Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro, but removed it to see if there was some problem. I'm still unable to use my Microphone even on onboard audio hardware. I'll try to use it once I have the microphone working

Have you tried making a virtual loopback device like above and using
arecord -vv -fdat out.wav
You should see the #### fluctuate as you speak into the mic. If not, then unmute and turn up your mic in alsamixer. That loopback device will allow you to capture your sound card and hear it at the same time. Another way to do it is to use a jumper from line out to line in on your sound device. You won't be able to hear it while you record though.
If your sound device works, then you can capture what's going through it. You'll need to determine which vitual device your mic is.

I recent ly put this out there and accidentaly clicked on solved after 1 reply/
is there any software that is in this thing that will let me record line in (Im not talking microphone) I mean come-on HP has to support its own device, or at least provide the ability to do so with a little work. How do you have a hi def sound card w only mic in?This site (http://harness.gadgetscope.com/view/XFIH-002) sells a cable for this purpose that will work with any SB card with the ten pin white connector on it. Bit expensi've but should do the trick.

How do i add a sound card to hp pavilion p2-1106.
The HP web site says:
that on the hp pavilion p2-1106 desk top the on mother board audio will not work if a new souond card is installed.

[SOLVED] Mic does not work on Intel ICH8 (rev 3) sound card
Hi, folks.
I cannot get my sound card to record anything, using a built-in microphone. Audio output works just fine, though. I hope someone can help me, I have been banging my head against the wall for some time over this issue...
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite A200-1J0 (PSAE6E-04R036G3). alsamixer settings are fine, I tried supplementing additional options to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf, but no luck, tried some of the combinations (model=<> position_fix=<>).
When recording sound with gnome-sound-recorder, with Capture set as input, nothing is heard. Skype can't record anything, either. I can't even get the crackling or hissing sound like some users do.
Should I try to get the latest ALSA?

I had the very same problem with the same soundcard and found this thread.
The problem got solved for me by adding the same line as you have to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf.
However, I also had to create /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf and add:
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba power_save=0
Notice the difference on the "model=toshiba" part.
However, my laptop is not a Toshiba, but a Compal IFL90.
I remember that in Ubuntu I needed(a long time ago) to add a line to /etc/alsa.conf with model=toshiba. I figured it might be worth a try, and well, it did.

I am trying to capture audio played over my sound card and rip right to mp3 with a program called Tunebite. I am wondering what effect, if any, my sound card has on the quality of the resulting mp3 file? Somebody told me this is all done in software and it does not matter that I only have the basic Sound Blaster PCI. thanks.

Actually, with the new method, you can make MP3's without a sound card! It bypasses the whole analog/digital conversion step, and it will make MP3's sound BETTER then the old method, even if you had the best card on the market. This is because it reads the sound data exactly as it is on the CD. Oh yea - it's probably 3 times faster too! (Depending on many factors... Can be 0X faster!) You don't have to wait for the songs to play!

My sound card has stopped working it was working fine but suddenly the sound quality started to faint and finally it stopped working i have tried the following methods:
Realtek is default audio
Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.( Didn't Worked)
Chipset Utility - install ( Did'n't Worked Aswell)
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot. (Worked) But First The Quality Was Not As It Was Before And Then Sound Card Stopped Working Again.
Try a System File Check
go to Run - type "sfc /scannow" No Success.
I have installed windows again but no success. :(

Power on the machine and press and hold the "option" key when you hear the bong sound.
Select the Macintosh HD icon and press "return" or just click on the icon.
Once booted into OS X go to System Preferences and select the Startup Disk icon and configure startup to use the Macintosh HD. -

sound works but when i reboot, before the root i get the error... sound card not found?check in rc.conf and see if your sound module isn't listed. Odd that it doesn't find your sound card on boot.
U may also need to run alsactl store as root. Permission problem, possibly?
sounds like alsaconfig is finding and loading the module each time u reboot, but its not being loaded because I think u need to run alsactl store as root, since it needs to be loaded by the kernel. That would require root privileges I would think. That's my best guess.

the only trouble is I make music with a MOTU Audio Express sound card, and it only has a USB 2 port and a bus-powered Firewire (which I don't like using since it hasn't been too reliable in the past).

Unfortunately, it seems that the Macbook I'm looking into purchasing only has USB 3 ports, and I looked for info on USB 3->USB 2 adapters online and this simply doesn't seem to exist. The only info I managed to find on this subject was this little bit on the Apple website:

I love the new imac's.. but I would need to upgrade the sound card if I got one. I have a recording studio and i'm using a delta 1010 pci card that is compatible with macs.. I can't see how it would work with an imac.. I'm also a graphic artist and use a mac for all my graphics but it's an old g4 that isn't exactly up to the task of running my studio as well.. I'm sick and tired of my crappy pc giving me grief in the studio and an imac seems like the perfect and affordable price for me.. (i definately need an intel mac so i can run boot camp or parrallels to run a few programs that aren't available on a mac... **** you adobe audition)
