Sound in a movie clip malfunctions when play head is moved backward

Problem summary:
A sound (stream) placed inside a movie clip that is within another movie clip will start playing continuously when I use the play control to jump around on the main timeline.
Details:
I am using Flash CS3 but the same issue occurs with CS6. I've spent quite a bit time to search/research for the issue but didn't find a solution. To demonstrate the problem, I've reduced the flash movie to a very simple structure.
One the main timeline:
The first frame has a movie clip (Game MC) and a stop action.
Following the first frame, there are several frames, mostly empty except some text.
The last frame has a stop action.
On the Game MC timeline:
There is only one frame. On that frame, there is a movie clip (Card MC), and the stop action.
On the Card MC timeline:
It starts with 3 blank frames and a stop action.
Starting at frame 4, a sound (.wav format) is placed and is set to be "stream."
At the end of this timeline, there is a stop action.
From Flash CS3, I press Ctrl+Enter to test the movie. The movie stops on frame 1 of the main timeline with the card showing, no sound, as expected. Now I use "." to move the play head forward one frame at a time. No problem. I see the frames after the first frame. Still no sound, as expected. So far so good.
The problem starts when I use "," to move the play head backward, the sound in the Card MC starts to play, regardless where the play head is, even when the Game MC (thence the Card MC) is not on the stage. Worse, each press of "," will trigger another start of the same sound overlapping with the previous one. And the sound would continue in loops until I close the swf.
However, the problem will not occur if I place the Card MC directly on the main timeline. It only occurs when it is inside another movie clip (Game MC).
I need to solve this problem because the full version of the flash card game is to be placed in an HTML page with a javascript based play control, which allows the viewer to jump around in the swf timeline.
The fla file is at: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_5mgotjr4l5RDZaOGxFeFFWN1U/edit?pli=1
Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug in Flash? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
Keith

Thanks. But the problem is that the timeline for the movie clip (Card MC) where the sound is should not have been run because the play head is not on the frame where the Game MC is at (Game MC contains Card MC.) I also put trace actions on various frames on that timeline (for Card MC) and none was invoked. I have also tried to set the sound to "event" or "start". It made no difference.

  • How do I mute the sound on a movie clip that I'm using in iphoto slide show?

    I cant get rid of the sound on a movie clip I'm using in an iphoto slide show. I want to mute it as I'm using music on the slideshow. Thanks!

    Did your Mac come with iMovie preinstalled?
    Then you could export your video, import it to iMovie and remove the audio track. iMovie has two methods to silence a video clip - you can either select the clip in the project and use the command "Detach audio" or chance the audio settings of the clip and set the volume to zero. Then render the video new and import the silent version to iPhoto to use in the slideshow.

  • Getting a movie clip to stop playing, when another one is activated.

    Hello,
    I have a file with 3 movie clips and three buttons that control them to play...with the script below It is working fine.
    stop()
    function startImageOne(Event:MouseEvent):void
        imageOne_mc.play();
    function startImageTwo(Event:MouseEvent):void
        imageTwo_mc.play();
    function startImageThree(Event:MouseEvent):void
        imgThree_mc.play();
    start1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startImageOne);
    start2_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startImageTwo);
    start3_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startImageThree);
    Then, I wanted to stop a movieClip, if another one was selected to play..so I inserted stop options to the function, which I thought would work, but doesn't. Does any one know why...See this code below..
    thanks
    stop();
    function startImageOne(Event:MouseEvent):void
        imageOne_mc.play();
        imageTwo_mc.stop();
        imgThree_mc.stop();
    function startImageTwo(Event:MouseEvent):void
        imageTwo_mc.play();
        imageOne_mc.stop();
        imgThree_mc.stop();
    function startImageThree(Event:MouseEvent):void
        imgThree_mc.play();
        imageOne_mc.stop();
        imageTwo_mc.stop();
    start1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startImageOne);
    start2_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startImageTwo);
    start3_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startImageThree);
    thanks

    Hi Ned,
    I checked the names and they are all correct...(I named one of the instances img instead of image, but it is all fine.
    The movie clips are simple...They have a stop action in the first frame, and then it is just an image that fads in and fades out..
    Pretty simple?
    The code looks fine, so I can't figure out, why the movie clip that is currently playing doesn't stop, when another button is activated.
    It seems like is should work??
    I'll keep playing .. thanks!!

  • OnRollOver sound in a movie clip object

    Scenario: I have a  frame with a quiz question and three answer options. The three answer options are movie clips. Their instance names are q1_soundA, q1_soundB, and q1_soundC. I want each option to make a different sound when rolling over them. My sounds are already in the library and they have been linked: each one has a unique identifier (a, b, and c) and "Export for ActionScript" and "Export in first frame" are checked. Under frame properties, sound is none, sync is event, and repeat is 1.
    I have a separate layer with the following code in the first frame (the quiz question is in the second frame):
    var snd_a = new Sound();
    snd_a.attachSound("a");
    var snd_b = new Sound();
    snd_b.attachSound("b");
    var snd_c = new Sound();
    snd_c.attachSound("c");
    gotoAndStop("q1"); // Go to the first question
    // Sounds to be played as options in each question
    q1_soundA.onRollOver = function () { snd_a.start(0,1); }
    q1_soundB.onRollOver = function () { snd_b.start(0,1); }
    q1_soundC.onRollOver = function () { snd_c.start(0,1); }
    q1_soundA.onRollOut = function () { snd_a.stop(); }
    q1_soundB.onRollOut = function () { snd_b.stop(); }
    q1_soundC.onRollOut = function () { snd_c.stop(); }
    Note: I also have three transparent buttons underneath each movie clip. I am using these buttons and some code to record the answers and calculate a score. This part is working fine though.
    Problem: As soon as the quiz question frame is displayed, the first sound is played over and over again even if the cursor is not even close to any of the option answers. It doesn't matter where I move or click, the sound keeps playing all the time. I am new to ActionScript, so I'm not sure if I'm missing something somewhere. There is no code in any other frame or object.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Update: I found one "Over" frame event  in one of the answer options which was playing the sound. I got rid of it and now my onRollOver code is doing nothing. The code stays the same as above.

  • Sound from separate movie clips over laps.

    I have 4 buttons that each lead to 4 different frames with a gotoAndStop() command. Each of those frames has a movie clip on it. But for some reason the sound that I have triple checked plays from more than one movie clip. It's weird because the sound is only in the movie clips.

  • Movie clips won't play -  OSStatus error -54

    I am organizing all of my movie clips, some of which date back a few years.  Since the last time I did this, something has happened and they will not play.  I get the following error message: OSStatus error -54  Does anyone know of a solution?

    You have the names of these files in iPhoto, right?
    Download Find Any File
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
    It's a search app that looks in places where Spotlight simply doesn't look. See if it can find them.
    Cause? Updating the system won't do this, but there are a million ways things can go wrong. I wouldn't worry about Apple cutting iPhoto. The current version will run on 10.10 for the foreseeable future - that's at least another year. Even when the next OS comes out, it may run on that too. If it doesn't, well releasing the new Photos.app and upgrading the OS will not turn iPhoto off or stop it working.

  • I used the ticker tape mode to add subtitles to a clip. When playing it in the pc, the Subtitles are fine, however, when playing it on the tv, only the top half of the words are visible. Any idea why?

    I added subtitles to a movie clip using the ticker tape option. When viewing on the iMac, the words are visible, however, when playing it in the tv, only the top half of the words are visible. Does anyone know why?

    I would agree with Keith Barkley, it may be the TV Safe Area. You can see what spots might be blocked out or cut off by going to iDVD and opening the original DVD project, under the View Menu > Show TV Safe Area. If your title gets cut off by the cropping rectangle displayed, that may account for the cut-off.

  • How to play the main timeline after a movie clip is finished playing.

    Ok so here is the problem, I have the main time line with three layers: My actions layer, a music layer, and the movie clip layer.
    The movie clip is an actionscript movie which calls images from an external XML file and shows them as a slideshow. What i need to do is after the last image plays, stop the movie and move the main timeline to the next scene of the main movie. Everything logical in my brain is not working, and it may be that I have been staring at this project for too long but for the life of me i can't make this work.
    Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

  • QuickTime movie clips won't play in video player

    I have movie clips generated by my camera that are in Quicktime format that are in iTunes and iPhoto (playing in both) but will not sync to the iPad because they are in an "unsupported format"
    I have a few other QT clips that did sync to the iPad from iTunes, but not all of them will transfer.
    What is the problem?

    Just because the videos from your camera are Quicktime, doesn't mean they will play on the ipad. Open the videos with Quicktime on your computer and get info, COMMAND+i. Here are the video specs for the iPad:
    H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format. http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

  • The sound on my G5 imac disappears when playing itunes

    The sound on my imac just cuts out when playing itunes. If I press the Sound Increse or Decrease button on the keyboard it comes back - for a while !
    The problem doesn't seem to be affected by anything else running.
    The only thing that does seem to have an effect it is the volume - the lower the volume, the oftner it happens.
    Anybody help me?

    One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone.  I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner.  An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand.  The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced.  I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

  • Why my movie clip disappears when it reaches to last frame?

    Hi,
    I have a movie clip on stage which length is 600 frames. I put a actionscript 3 code "stop();)" at the end of movie. it stops when it reaches to 600 frames but it disappears from the stage as well. Which I don't want. It should stop animating but stay with last fram which has a welcome message.
    How can I do this?

    I should remain visible, so you must be overstepping the last frame or the movieclip in some way.  Maybe the timeline your animation is in does not go as far as the timeline.

  • "Show Hide Elements" movie Clips continue to play

    I've put a bunch of AP Div tags on a page with video links,
    once one begins to play it continues after another thumnail is
    clicked. So, a user can soon be bombarded with audio from 8
    different clips playing all at once, because once one begins
    playing, it seems to not "hide" or cease to play as it should.
    The URL in question is found here, but you have to click the
    link for more demo reel stuff to load the page I'm trying to work
    on:
    http://www.knappmediaproductions.com/portfolio.htm
    Remember, click where on the page it says: "More varied
    examples of Demo work seen here" to open the page I'm dealing with.
    Is there code of some kind to shut all those clips down when
    the layer they are on is hiding?

    I understand that you can remove one parent instead of many
    children in this way, which is good from an efficiency standpoint.
    Beyond that, I was ideally looking for a way to basically "freeze"
    the action on Frame A and return to it. I assume that, even with a
    parent-child scenario, I would still need to loop through all of
    the children and save their states (because just checking the
    parent attributes isn't going to get at this information). I was
    just asking if there was any easier way. It would be nice to be
    able to go to another frame - maybe on another level - and then
    come back to Frame A and pick up where I left off - just hopeful
    thinking, I guess.

  • How do i mute the sound in a movie clip using action script?

    assuming my movie clip is named "movie"

    You should use SoundTranfrom object and soundTransform property of your movieClip.
    At first you have to instantiate soundTransform object and assign value of 1 to it's volume property:
    var soundTr:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform();
    soundTr.volume = 1;
    Than a simple toggle function, which changes volume property of soundTr and assigns the object soundTr to your movie's soundTransform property.
    function toggleMute():void
        if(soundTr.volume == 1)
            soundTr.volume = 0;
        }else{
            soundTr.volume = 1;
        movie.soundTransform = soundTr;

  • Older ".mov" clips won't play

    I'm trying to play some older (maybe 2004) clips from some education software. The player starts and runs the clip (the slider thingy moves across) but there's no picture or sound. Clips play fine on my PC (Windows XP), but I need to run them on my laptop at school. Ideas?

    Open the QuickTime System preference pane / Advanced tab.
    Check the box for "legacy" encoders.
    If that doesn't work use the Movie Inspector window to tell us more about you .mov files.

  • Good quality quicktime movie looks poor when played thru Final Cut timeline

    I created a quicktime file with moving text in After Effects 6.5..when i play the movie file it looks fine..no aliasing or jagged edges on the text...
    when I import the .mov file into finalcut (4.5HD) and immediately launch & play it in the viewer, it also looks fine...
    but when i place the .mov file onto the timeline and play it from there, or when i relaunch that .mov file from the timeline into the viewer, the quality of the text looks degraded...
    ...so i'm thinking it's a setting issue...i don't think it's an AE issue because I was able to get a good quality image into the viewer in Final Cut...I'm using the DV NTSC 48khz standard settings...720 x 480...could it be the 'millions of colors' or the 'YUV video processing' settings selected in the sequence settings?
    ...thanks for any help!
    peace
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    thanks...that helps...i've been watching it back on
    the computer monitor..guess i'll have to do a quick
    dvd burn to see how it appears on tv to see if that
    was the issue...(no monitor or space to use a tv as a
    monitor yet)
    Whoa there! You shouldn't waste time burning a DVD to check the quality of your renders. In fact, you should be working with the video monitor (or TV) hooked up to your DV Deck or DV Camcorder as you work. That way, you can always be aprised of your quality. This is the way the manual says you should be set up at all times. However, you are cutting in a space that does not have room for a small video monitor? Wow, must be a closet or something.
    If a video monitor is not convenient, then you can see an aproximation of the quality you'd see in a video monitor if you do the following: Zoom out your Canvas to precisely 100% and Uncheck Sq. Pixels in the Zoom pop up. You may need to resize the Canvas to see the whole image and if you are working with a small computer screen.
