Sound output restricted to front speakers on 5.1 sound system

Since updating to 64bit newest iTunes (12.1.0.71) it only plays out of the front three speakers and subwoofer.
In itunes sound output options I do see "windows audio session" only. tried with several bitrates and 16/24 bit output to no avail.
Any ideas why it shuts down the rear speakers?
System info:
Win 8.1 64bit, asus realtek HD audio driver 6.0.1.7071
Amazon Music and other sound outputs working just fine with full 5.1

In addition to my last post: ac3 output on video is not available either. So this is really annoying ...

  • VFL Speaker sound from both the front speakers while FR sound is not coming out at all.

I have a creative gigaworks s750 connected to a xtreme gamer sound card. The system was working absolutely fine but now it has started behaving very strangely; system is playing back Front Left Speaker sound from both the front speakers while Front Right sound is not coming out at all. If i click the front right speaker in audio console speaker setup wizard, no sound comes. However when i click the front left speaker, sound comes out of both speakers. I counter checked it with playing 5.1 dts movie and muting all the speakers except the front left one from ac3 filter, sound came out of both the front speakers. However when i muted all the channel except the front right, no sound was coming out of front right speaker.

Just want to add another relieved reader of this thread.  I had lost the sound to my speakers even though I had sound to headphones. I was convinced it was a damaged headphone jack because I had pushed the headphone plug in harder the last evening when my wife complained that she could still hear the speakers while I listened with the headphones.  The next morning--no speaker sound.
I spent a few hours searching the web to see how to disassemble a satellite A505 and get to the jack.  But I wasn't even sure I could get a proper replacement jack that fit, and I was concerned that small damage, say to the ribbon connectors could render the computer useless--a large price to pay for just missing audio.
Fortunately, I stumbled onto this thread and I recalled I had put the unit to sleep the night before--something I don't usually do, but I didn't want all the Chrome web sites to have to reload so I just put it to sleep.
When I put it to sleep again and fired it up--Sound!  I am so glad to find this solution so I just want to let people know it remains a viable option.

  • Sticky This : Surround Sound coming out of front speakers and Subwoofer not work

The problem with Creative forum moderators and the like is that they have used their products so often that they forget the basic really simplistic things and as a result have a lot of frustrated customers (As indicated by the number of?problem posts?when this really need not be the case)? After building myself a media center with Windows XP (Yes the best DVD backup software is made for XP) my?X-Fi card Surround, Centre and Front Speakers were all mapped together for sound. After searching through the forums at many unanswered posts with similar problems I eventually came across the answer a few months back after a few days of reading this forums posts. The problem arises because of the Windows default settings which need to be changed when insatalling the sound card. Which I believe a good driver should be doing anyway. This is the menu path:StartControl PanelSounds and Audio DevicesAudioAdvancedPerformanceHardware Acceleration slide indicator should be on Full, then Apply? At this stage I got all the Speakers to work independently except the Subwoofer?I am not one to sit and study a user manual comprehensi'vely before attempting installation. I normally look for any serious warnings or precautions adhere to them and then slap the thing in and usually everything just happens in the correct sequence or that is how it should be with a new piece of hardware anyway. I use the manual more for problem solving. Anyways my point is that I have not read the manual in depth yet but all must be aware that you need?4-part jacks to get the most out of your?X-Fi sound card. The extra?points are required?in the Center/Subwoofer and Rear Speaker jacks because the extra connections within these jacks are used for SPDIF out on the Center/Subwoofer Jack and Side speakers for your 7. system on the rear speaker jack. (I dunno why they don't just put in 2 extra jacks that are the normal 3-part jacks .....or perhaps it's a way to force you to buy creative speakers which come with very rare?4-part jacks)? The subwoofwer can only be made to work if you pull out the 3-part jack just enough to make the correct contact with the card that gives you subwoofer signal.

    @tryignan ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forum.  I have one question have you tried doing a system restore back to before this problem started.  Something has updated or changed in the drivers or Operating system to cause this.
Have you removed both audio drivers and just ran with the AMD audio driver.
Now did you try this when you removed your drivers.  Try booting into safemode and remove the two audio drivers.
Download your software and drivers for your system and save to dvd or usb memory stick.
Run the Recovery manager to restore software and drivers to factory spec.
Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8)
Now if that fails try doing the full Windows 8 recovery.
Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8)
Please post back and let me know if this was of any help.
Thank you again for posting and have a great day and a happy new year.

  • After updating to 12.1.2.27, songs play, but without any sound output to internal iMac speakers

So i updated to 12.1.2.27 and songs 'play', but without any sound output. Checked my audio settings and had it at Internal speakers. Checked the speakers (they work, at least for YouTube vids), restarted machine, etc and no audio output from iTunes. Any suggestions? Am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance

Try unchecking Sound Enhancer and Sound Check in your Preferences under Playback
Sound check may have reduced everything to a low output level inadvertently.

  • Front speakers don't get sound, but rears

I have an Audigy 2 ZS with the logitech z-560's. The setup was working fine, but somehow, the front speakers haven't been working. I tested the connections, and they are fine...i even tried connecting it to a different computer, and the speakers worked fine. The software, however, is where I think the problem lies. If anybody can help me, that would be awesome... Thanks

Try the card on another machine. That will isolate if it's the card jack faulty.

  • Using iMac sound output with JBP 'Creature' speakers

Am trying to install a pair (set actually) of JBL Creature speakers. I am using the iMac digital audio output which I understand should also serve as an analogue output. However, the sound out of the JBLs is quite muffled, tinny, and low, which leads me to believe that something is wrong. Any clues?
Not sure how Mac Audio outputs work.

    HI,
I have the Creature with satellites. One of your satellites should have a plus and a minus sign. That is volume. The bass and treble are on the Creature subwoofer.
The outlet you use on your Intel based iMac is the one closest to the right side on the back.
Make sure your cables are seated properly. They connect "just right". I have found the Creature to have superior sound for such a small system.

  • Can't get sound output to built in speakers

Hi, I can't get to my built in speakers. They don't show up in the system preferences; it just says "no output devices found." Sometimes with multiple restarts, it will come back; sometimes not.
I should say I'm periodically plugging in my Griffin iMic to rip vinyl. This never used to cause any problems. But it's the only thing I can think of that may be causing this bug, because when it's plugged in, in the system preferences I do get an output device, namely "iMic USB audio system." Of course, clicking that does not cause me to get any noise, as this is not an output device, but rather an input device.
Really tired of my mute computer!

crazy, I'm having the exact same issue on the same day, only my issue is I keep setting my audio mapping to my wireless headphones (bluetooth) and click OK but it doesn't work. When I re open audio mapping prefs its set back to the default.

  • Sound output in macbook pro (speakers vs headphones)

Every time I plug in my headphones, the output from the speakers to the headphones does not happen immidiately, it takes about 3-5 seconds once the headphones are plugged in for the signal to switch from the speakers to come in through the headphones. Why is that and can that delay be changed?

That is because it has to execute a change in the routing and such, it "system world" all of my machines do the same thing. The speakers and headphone jack are not a paralleled signal path they are two seperate devices and need to switch over. (Think of the system as opening a micro app)
As far as I know there is no way to change this, it's just the way it is.
    Hope that helps

  • Sound Output reverts to Internal Speakers every time I log in

    Hello all,
I have a Mac Pro 2,1 and just installed update 10.6.2 and every time I restart or power it up, it will revert sound from Digital Out to Internal Speakers.
Later I created a new account, logged out and logged back in and sound was also reverted to internal speakers.
I have another internal hard drive with 10.6.1 and don't have this issue.
Does anyone know how I can submit a bug-report to Apple?
    Thanks,

  • Sound from front speakers only

I am using optical audio with Sony DAV-DZ810 home theater and my Apple TV2. The system is new and I am not very familiar. When I watch a trailor (have not watched a movie yet) on ATV2, I notice that sound only comes from two front speakers only. No sound is heard from center and rear speakers.
    Can anyone please advise?

    Normal.
Trailers do not usually have 5.1 surround.
Not all movies have 5.1 surround either - it should say or show the dolby icon on the movie preview screen and once you choose to rent it often says you are renting film x which has surround surround (or something like that).

  • Playing back Recorded TV Programs using Windows Media Player and only hearing Sound from Front Speakers

    Hi All,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Service Pack 1 with Windows Media Player 11 installed.
When I click on one of my Recorded TV Programs to watch and hear, I can only hear the Sound coming from the Front Speakers.
When I right-click on the Program and open it up in Real Player Cloud. I can indeed watch the program and hear Clear Sound coming from all 5 Speakers plus the Subwoofer.
What setting do I change to use Windows Media Player and have sound coming from all 5 Speakers and the Subwoofer?
    Thank you!

    Hi Andreas,
    Thanks for the reply.
The link you put up, takes me to the page, but
"The requested URL /surround/www_lynnemusic_com_surround_test.wma was not found on this server."
    That was WaterFox.
    The webpage cannot be found
    This in Internet Explorer 11.0
The Files in question were Recorded by Beyond TV to my Local Hard Drive.
When I open the recording in Real Player Cloud, installed on my computer, not streaming over the Internet, I hear it correctly played.
When I use Windows Media Player, nothing can be heard from the Rear Speakers.
Speakers and Hardware are working fine.

  • Sound Outputted Through Internal Speakers is Distorted While Charger is Disconnected

I have a new Pavilion G7-1263nr that works great while the charger is plugged in.  When I unplug the charger sound outputted through the internal speakers becomes distorted, and the mouse response is erratic.
    Thanks for the help!!

    Hi Giraut,
I don't have such a device to check, nor even external speakers, but I suspect this invisible file is corrupted, I'd drag it to the desktop and see if you can set it again...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.GlobalPreferences<12digitHexNumb er>.plist
Might check Midi Setup Utility to see if it's set for 44.1K also.

  • Sound Output defaulted to AirParrot

    Hey guys!
So I installed AirParrot yesterday to test some stuff out with my Apple TV then uninstalled the program. Today, after booting up my Macbook Pro Retina 2013, I found that I wasn't getting sound from my external, plugged in speakers. I unplugged the speakers and the internal ones worked. I found that AirParrot was selected as my device for sound output. Then I later I rebooted my computer without my external speakers plugged in, and found that my sound would not come out of my internal speakers. Checking my sound output again, I see that AirParrot was again selected for my device for sound output.
I know how to switch my sound output back to my internal speakers, but somehow my Mac keeps selecting AirParrot as the default output upon bootup. Should AirParrot even still be a device since I uninstalled the app? How do I get rid of AirParrot as an option for sound output and make my internal speakers the default?
    Thanks!
    Jon

You may not have gotten all the parts and pieces un-installed. If the Un-install below doesn't work, go to the developer's web site for instructions.

  • 2010 mac mini hdmi sound output

    Hi,
i have following audio setup via hdmi of my mac mini:
    mac mini -> yamaha rx-v 665 -> philips tv
If only the receiver is turned on i have it as display and hdmi audio output device with 8-ch sound output. But as soon as i turn on my tv, my mac mini switches the sound output to my tv with only 2-ch sound output.
Anyone an idea how to prevent switching my mac mini to the tv sound output?
    thx

I am trying to get my Mac Mini (2010) to use the speakers I have connected for my Samsung 40" TV through my Yamaha receiver as well. I connected to the TV to my Mini via HDMI thinking it would take care of video AND audio, but I cannot get the audio to function. Do I need to connect from the headset port to my receiver? If so, into which port?
My dream of making the mini and TV combo is taking a hit.
