Sound problems after opening DVD player

When I open DVD player I no longer get sound output on webpages unless I restart safari or firefox
I've got sound outputted through digital output
Everything is fine before but the second that DVD player opens and even after it's closed down I still don't get sound output on webpages until I restart the browser
Anyone got any ideas ???
Cheers

Since it's so new, I would call AppleCare Support or bring it into an Apple store. That shouldn't be happening with a brand-new Mac.

• New Mac Mini won't open DVD Player, I get an error

This is a brand new mac mini (latest model bought two days ago), just opened and tried to open DVD player without any media on the DVD drive and the DVD Player doesn't open and I get this error:
There was an initialization error.
A valid video device could not be found for playback (-70017)
What could that be?
Wilfredo.

No. The DVD Player always open even if there is no media in the drive.
The problem was the Region. I needed to set the region on the drive, but the error message never told what was the problem, I had to figure it out myself.

It's difficult to speculate without hearing the original and the export.  Can you upload them?

• I CANT GET 5.1 SOUND CONECTING A EXTERNAL DVD PLAYER TO SPDIF

I CANT GET 5. SOUND CONECTING A EXTERNAL DVD PLAYER TO SPDIF OF?MY?LIVE DRIVE SOUND BLASTER LIVE 5. PLATINUM, WHY NOT? IS THE SPDIF LIVE DRIVE IN STEREO ONLY?

?Sound Blaster Li've 5. can't decode AC3/DTS via hardware only with software?MOVIES
Cinematic Surround Sound in Movies

Enjoy captivating 5. multi-channel surround sound with CMSS. Works with any software DVD-Player that supports Dolby Digital or DTS decoding for cinema-like movie experience.<
?Digital Connections, SPDIF and Dolby Digital Info?Digital ConnectionsDigital connections come in two standard forms, optical and coax. They both give you exactly the same result, the only difference is the medium (material)?through which the signal travels. The thing to remember about digital is that for ordinary, uncompressed?sound, it will only carry a stereo signal.
So, if you like to use CMSS with your music, or you try the speaker test function,?optical/coax is useless as you only hear the front left/right speakers.?Movies wth Dolby Digital (AC3) & DTSMovies on DVD often use encoded?audio in the form of Dolby Digital (AC3) or DTS. This means that all 6 channels are compressed into a single stream of digital data. A decoder is required to extract the channels and send the sound to the correct speakers. There are three ways to do this.
) Pass the AC3/DTS signal to a external decoder.?This is where your optical/coax connection is used. To?go down this route, you must first have a?set of speakers or a decoder that?supports Dolby Digital.
In your DVD software, select 'SPDIF' as the audio output method and 'SPDIF Pass-through' in?your?soundcard options. What this does is?tells both the software and soundcard to leave the audio from the DVD in compressed form and send it straight through the digital outputs. Your?digital speakers/receiver will do all the decoding to give you full surround sound.
Please note that this?is the only way to get 6 channels through an optical/coax cable.
2) Decode the AC3/DTS with your Sound Blaster ?You should choose this option if?you don't have an external decoder. In the DVD software, select 'SPDIF' as the audio output method and make sure that 'SPDIF Pass-through' in the souncard options is?off. The DVD software will now pass the compressed audio to your soundcard, which will then decode the data. The soundcard will output the 6 channels using the?analogue connections (or digital DIN, more on this later). If you try?to use a digital optical/coax connection to your speakers, you will only hear faint sounds from the front left/right speakers.
3) Decode the AC3/DTS with software.?If you have a soundcard that doesn't support Dolby Digital (like the SB Li've! 24-bit) and you don't have digital speakers, the only way for you to get surround sound in movies is to use software to decode the AC3/DTS. The free versions of DVD software you get with hardware often don't support this feature,? you will most likely need a full version. First select 'Dolby Digital' or 'DTS' decoding in the DVD software audio options (you must select the right?sound format for the movie you are watching). Then make sure that 'SPDIF Pass-through' in the soundcard options is off. As with method (2) you must connect your speakers with the 3 analogue cables, not optical/coax.

• Lose sound with optical speakers after using DVD Player

For some reason when I launch DVD Player my sound will stop on all other applications. Quitting DVD Player won't fix this either. In iTunes, the song won't even begin playing. I've tried checking Audio MIDI Setup, and for my ouput I'm only allowed to choose "None". When I try to select Built-in Audio it won't let me. However, before I launch DVD Player Built-in Audio will output to the speakers. My speakers are Logitech 5.1 Z5500's and I am using the optical connections. They didn't come with any sort of drivers and seem to work fine before using DVD Player, so I don't really know what's up.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Powermac G5 Dual 2.7   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Logitech Z5500 Digital Speakers

In DVD Player's preferences when Disc Setup -> Audio Output is set to "Digital Out - Built-in Audio" the AC3 stream is sent to the speakers. This is an encoded stream straight from the disc that provides the 5.1 channel surround sound. The computer cannot take the sound from other applications and mix it with the AC3 stream because it would first have to decode the stream, mix the sound and then re-encode the stream. This is very processor intensive and your system would take a big performance hit.
To get sounds from other applications while watching a DVD change Disc Setup -> Audio Output to "System Sound Output". You'll lose the 5.1 output from the movie but will hear the sounds from other applications.

• Audio problem after burned DVD on set top player only?

My burned DVD's play great on any computer PC or MAC but on client's (and mine) set top DVD player the first 3 seconds of the 30-min program don't play any audio???
Client's set top DVD player is brand new and has HDMI out puts, my player is old, 3 years maybe but both players do the exact same thing...the DVD's we're trying to play on the DVD players are all built and burnt from Mac using DVD SP. So the menus all work, even the audio perfectly, but when you choose the program it won't play the audio for 3 sec, then it kicks in, though the video plays perfectly from beginning. I've got 1 sec of Black at the head of program, then it fades up to first shot. I've got that same black slug on both audio tracks for 1 sec as well...tried with and without the black in the audio tracks, no change. Now on a 4 year old Panasonic EM-50 something DVD recorder/player the DVD's did work.
Thoughts?

Hi tomwros
Welcome to apple discussions. Sorry to hear you are having problems navigating a burned disc. In most cases on apple discussions it's the result of the media and not of the hardware / software.
Please tell us which brands you have tried. Include speed of the media itself and if it's plus or minus media. Also when you used Roxio Toast, what speed did you burn at within Toast?

• Problems skipping on dvd player

Hello,
I made a movie with imovie &  burned 30+ dvds for clients and tested just the first few min of each, figuring they would be good to go. Turns out they ALL skip in the same spots 16+ min into the movie. Arggg! Why is this doing this and how can I fix it?

This is the workflow recommended so as to cull out any problems before having to burn a single disk:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Burning from a disk image lets you burn additional copies at a later date without having to go thru the encoding process again and keep iDVD open all the time.  You should also shut stop burning for a while after burning around 4-5 disks in a row to cool the laser.

• Dvd will not open dvd player

I just created a new DVD video using iDVD, but after burning the DVD and trying to play the DVD on any computer, it will not open unless I open the DVD Player first (I have my settings on DVD Player to automatically open DVDs). Any ideas?

Hi
Most common origin to this are
• Use of Cheap DVD brand e.g. Memorex, NoName etc. - I only use Verbatim (more organic dye in them)
• Burn speed - I set it down to x4
• Use of DVD-/+RW disks - I only use DVD-R as they also play on older DVD-Players (DVD+R don't)

• Problems with mavericks dvd player

Has anyone noticed that dvd scripting is poorly implemented in Mavericks?
I have a dvd with a nested script to randomly select from among 48 tracks on a dvd.
Since that exceeds script length limitations, I had to break the script down into 3 parts:
1. A master script which decides whether to choose script 1 (items 1-24) or Script 2 (items 25-48)
2. Script 1 which chooses from among tracks 1-24
3. Script 2 which chooses from among tracks 25-48.
Each track has the jump to set to the master script.
This used to run fine under 10.8.6 and it runs find on a normal dvd player.
Problem is: it doesn't run under Mavericks. The Mavericks dvd player simply ignores the master script after the first iteration and once it selects script one or script 2 it only will play back tracks from whichever script it selected the first time.
This is a huge defect.
I've tried adding a line to my code at the beginning of each script to reset the variable controlled by the master script to 0 (I use 1 or 2 to decide which script to choose). It seems to be ignoring the jump command of the tracks to return to the master script and will only return to the script which controls its playback.
Any hope Apple that you will fix this?
Keith

Too bad I have to reply to myself in order to correct something:
It seems the compiled DVD doesn't run under 10.8.6 either, but it runs FINE on a real dvd, runs fine in simulate mode in DVD Studio Pro. But for some reason even though DVDs are restricted to 124 lines of code, DVD studio Pro refuses to compile my script when I make it a mere 50 lines long. Anyone have a solution for that? I really need this to run from a harddrive so I can automate the playback. I'm trying anything I can to rewrite the script to conform to the limitations of the Apple DVD player though those are not stated clearly anywhere I can find. Does anyone know those limitations?

• Sound problems after iOS 4.2 upgrade

Experiencing very poor sound quality after iOS 4.2 upgrade. Bad eq, left channel dropping out, sounds like heavy reverb. Exists with iPod and pandora apps. Tried adjusting eq in settings. Any one else having problems?

Yep I just upgraded to new OS 4.2 on iPhone 4 and I get this static buzz sound when talking to people it's really annoying and sound quality is terrible. What happened? I went back to the shop and they said it's the upgrade and that there is an issue with it. They also said there is no point leaving the phone with them as they can't fix it that it's upto apple to release a patch for the problem. Can we get a fix for this soon before I damage my ears?

• Pismo Sound Problems after Sleep in Tiger

Hi all. New to the forums and returning to Macs after years of cursing Bill Gates. Picked up a Powerbook Pismo from a friend and have been having some fun with it, but I have one problem I can't solve. I replaced the hard drive (saved the old one) and installed Tiger and 1GB of memory on the machine. All seemed well until I noticed that the sound would not work sometimes after sleeping. The sound will usually return with a reboot, but sometimes I'll have to actually turn the machine off, and clear the PRAM to get the sound to come back. Sometimes, the volume and screen controls will both not work at all (pop up doesn't even appear when the keys are pressed), sometimes it's just that the sound doesn't work, but everything looks right on the screen. I've also had the sound and screen buttons not work only to have pop ups suddenly appear and the adjustments happen several minutes after I pressed the keys. So far I've tried:
Clearing the PRAM
Checked the Pram Battery (ok)
Reinstalled Tiger (Still loses sound)
Downgraded to 10.3 (problem persists, and seems worse)
In system information on Tiger it says "there was an error when retrieving that information" when you click on the sound hardware.
The machine is a 500mhz Pismo with a 48gig drive and 1 gig of Memory (133mhz, would that cause this sort of problem?)
I have not tried going back to OS9 to see if the disappearing sound resolves as I don't currently have an OS9 disk.
This sure seems like a software problem, but I'm starting to wonder. I really like this machine and want to get it to work! Help!

Maxstang, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Did you repair permissions after you installed Tiger? Have you updated Tiger to 10.4.11?
Here's the Sound troubleshooting info in the Pismo Service Manual.
No sound from speaker(s)
1. Verify mute mode is not enabled (F6 on the keyboard).
2. Check the volume setting in the Sound control panel.
3. Verify no external speakers or headphones are plugged in.
4. Reset PRAM.
5. Make sure speaker cable is plugged into sound card.
6. Replace sound card.
7. Replace speakers (part of the top case).
8. Replace I/O logic board
Startup sound is heard, then no sound from speaker(s)
1. Remove sound preferences from System Folder, reset PRAM,
then restart.
2. Perform clean installation of system software.
Had the Pismo previously had OS X installed. There's a firmware update (Boot ROM version 4.1.8) that should be installed prior to installing OS X. However, when I got my Pismo with Tiger installed, the firmware was not updated (have since updated). However, I don't think this could be the cause of your problem, since I had no sound problems when the update was not installed.
The PC133 RAM (which runs at 100MHz) should not be the problem. I have PC133 RAM in my Pismo.
Since you replaced the HD, could you have disturbed the connection to the Sound Card. The Sound Card is located to the upper-right of the HD. Here's a helpful laptop site.

• Sound Problem After Installing iOS 8.1

Hello, after updating my iPad to iOS8.1 it started making weird noises, kind of the same ones you get while blocking it or getting a notification but with a little of a "robotic" twist. Restoring it seemed to had fix it until I tried to get the 8.1 again. I was just wondering if someone its having the same issue, and if so, whats the solution. Do you think that i'll be treated on the 8.2 version? I had the same problem with my iphone 4 once and couldnt get it sorted out.

I successfully got my iPhone 6 messages sound by following Timothy Holt directions.
Thanks Tim.

Re: iPhone 6 does not ring or make any sound notifications after installing iOS 8.1in response to Jane1950
What you have to do, and this appears to be essential after you update the OS, is to reboot your phone.
1. Hold down the sleep/wake button and home button simultaneously.
2. Let go when the Apple logo appears and the iPhone is booting up.
