Sound Volume control gone with earbuds

Is there a setting on an iPhone 4S that would disable the volume control from earbuds?  The stop/start works fine, but I cannot raise or lower the volume?  Thanks.

Make sure the jack is inserted completely.
Clean out the connector in the iPhone with compressed air.

  • Satellite P10-804: Cannot alter the sound volume control

The Sound Volume Control on the front of the unit has set itself to far in the whole and cannot be altered.
Is this something I can fix ?

I dont know if you can fix it.
Do you have enough experience to disassemble the notebook?
Do you have good experience in soldering?
The volume controller is fixed on the motherboard its not easy to say what happens maybe there are some loose contacts
I think its better to contact a notebook technician because he has more experience as a common notebook user like me and you!

  • The text/email/alerts sound volume has gone right down on my iPhone 4

The text/email/alerts sound volume has gone right down on my iPhone 4, but the ringtone volume is still loud! Adjusting the volume in "Settings" only changes the ringer volume, I just can't find a way to increase the alerts volume! Help please!!!

    Hi ecsands,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
To "Choose alert sounds, adjust the alert volume, or turn vibrate on or off: Go to Settings > Sounds."
For more information, see Pg. 28 - 29 of the iPhone User Guide:

  • Sound volume control unresponsive after waking from sleep

Lately, a strange problem has developed on my MacBook 13-inch Aluminum (Late 2008), running Mac OS X 10.6.4:
After waking the MacBook from sleep, the sound volume control keys on the keyboard does not affect the volume control of:
    * Neither the sound volume output by the built-in speakers,
    * nor the sound volume indicator/slider in the menubar,
    * nor the sound volume indicator/slider in the Sound preference pane in System Preferences,
Only the sound volume slider/indicator in the Sound preference pane in System Preferences has an effect on the actual volume ouput by the built-in speakers.
First I thought the problem was affected by disconnecting a set of analog headphones while the MacBook was sleeping -- it seemed that after sleep the volume control keys on the keyboard and menubar item still was set to affect the headphone port and not the built-in speakers.
However, the problem just occured after sleeping without anything connected to the MacBook. The built-in speakers were muted, when the MacBook lid was closed, and the computer went to sleep - after waking from sleep the built-in speakers were unmuted - and control was only possible through System Preferences.
    Any ideas?

Not sure if you stumbled on the other threads like this one:

I've been having the same problem on my Mac Pro for a while, finally decided to see if there were some other people having the problem. I'll see if the others have a solution yet.
One workaround I've been doing is to go to Preferences -> Sound and select a different output device. For me, I have to flick to Internal Speakers and then back to Line Out.

  • Satellite A355-S6931 Low Sound - Volume Control wheel just spins

I've checked and tried everything I can find or know how to do to get enough volume and nothing works.  Everything is set to 100 %.  I use headphones (same ones I used with my 5 yo Toshiba).  Why does that wheel just spin with no change in volume and no stopping point either way?  I have to suspend my Netflix service as I have about 2% sound.  Satellite A355-S6931 - 6 weeks old now.

It might as well be broken as it affects absolutely NOTHING no matter how far or how long I turn it in either direction.
I expect this computer to deliver an acceptable degree of sound.  I have some hearing loss and use headphones exclusively which have their own volume control.  My 6 year old Toshiba laptop would blast my eardrums out with volume if I wasn't careful to keep all controls from the max.  Granted, I paid more than double as much for the computer back then and got Win XP-Prof besides.  I wasn't looking for a "cheap" computer but expected comparable quality to my former Toshiba, in spite of being stuck with Vista.  I could do without MANY of the bells and whistles this thing has for some acceptable SOUND.  Seems like a basic provision.
Can I get the sound card replaced for something better?
What about the adapters that sell for about $10 on eBay?
BTW -- the Toshiba DVD Player won't work at all.  Using Window Media Player shows the DVD but the sound is totally inaudible.  I've had to suspend my Netflix service.

  • SB Audigy2 w/Vista: Creative Volume Control conflict with Windows Volume Control(sndvol.ex

    Hi Everyone,
I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Dimension 8300 with a SoundBlaster Audigy 2(WDM) card. I have a few no-mind questions about how these things all work together:
. After I installed Creative's Vista driver upgrade for the SB Audigy 2 series, I noticed that there are now two volume control icons in the system tray. One is for the Creative Volume Control. The other is the original Windows Volume Control (sndvol.exe). Should these two controls be running at the same time?
    2. The Master Volume is a lot lower in Vista than it was in XP. When I let Vista pick the sound drivers the first time around, I figured the lower volume had something to do with those. So I downloaded and installed the Vista SB Audigy 2 Driver Upgrade from Creative's website. The volume is still very low, however, and I have to peak all my volume controls to hear much of anything. Does anyone have any ideas why this should be so?
Thanks to all who took the time to read this! Have a good day,
    Big Al Mintaka

    Hi DakkonA,

  • IOS 6.1 has removed sound, volume controls

On updating to iOS 6.1 this evening I find that I've lost all volume controls, except in the 'Sounds' section of 'Settings'.  The hardware buttons don't work; and the slider doesn't appear in apps.  There is no sound from the speakers during playback.  This is after a couple of power cycles and a hard reset.  Is there a fix?  Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion - I tried it, but it didn't work.
I've since established that everything works as it should if headphones are connected.  But once the headphones are unplugged, all the sound is off again, the sliders vanish, and the side buttons do nothing.  It's a software problem - the speakers do work because the ringer volume can be adjusted within 'Settings' -> 'Sound' - it's just disabled across the rest of the system.

  • Ipad Keyboard dock: Volume Control issue with headphones.

I recently got an Ipad keyboard dock. I am unable to control the volume when a headphone is plugged in. Is there a setting that needs to be adjusted or is it bad hardware? The dock volume control works well without a headphone though...
    Thanks!

While it's nice that they tell you this on the keyboard documentation, it's still very undesirable.
Apple, please update this in a future OS release so I don't have to plug the headphones in every time I doc.
    Thank you.

I am using Lumia 920. When I pressed volume key the volume control bar shows up but there are 3 extra icons play, fast fordward and backward

If those icons are an annoyance to you, you can install an app called Stop the music. Then after you have finished listening to your music you can use that app which will clear the music control icons from the volume bar.

  • Sound/volume has gone on my iPad?

Sound has gone on my iPad 2, but works when using head phones? I've read all the tips and nothing has worked. I've checked the side switch, mute option on the home screen when you double click it, checked the settings, read most recommendations, blew in the sockets... Everything?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Volume control problem with 30GB iPod 3G, Universal Dock, and Apple Remote

I just hooked up my 30GB iPod 3G to the Universal Doc and tried the my new Apple remote. The only buttons on the remote that work in controlling my iPod while on the dock are the play/pause and the skip forward and back buttons.
For some reason the volume up and down buttons don't adjust the volume on my iPod while it's on the dock. Any ideas? Shouldn't the volume up and down work? Or do they only work on the newer iPods?
    Any info appreciated.

    17' Aluminum Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    btabz,
Thanks for your response. No the iPod doesn't respond at all--the volume display doesn't come up or change.
When I press the play/pause or either skip forward or back on the remote, the iPod, while on the dock, lights up and responds to the command as it should. But when I press volume up or down on the remote the iPod does not respond at all.
According to Apple's store info on the remote, the volume up/down controls should work. I am wondering if maybe it doesn't work with the 3Gs for some reason. But if that is the case, Apple should indicate that. It is kind of frustrating to not be able to adjust the volume.
    Thanks,

  • HT204389 Volume control issues with BlueAnt S4

Does anyone have a workaround with receiving volume using the BlueAnt S4 hands-free unit? It voice dials just fine, but once it connects, you cannot hear the dialed person (even with the volume maximized on both the unit and the iPhone 4s).

Check - Settings > Sounds > Change with Buttons > On
This locks the ringer volume at whatever the slider above this setting is set to.
