Source Formatting isn't doing what I expect

I either don't understand how it works, or it isn't working
as it should.
When I apply Source Formatting to badly formatted code, I was
expecting it
to format the td tags like this:
text
<td>
tag contents
</td>
text
In the tag library editor it says:
Line Breaks: Before, Inside, After
Contents: Formatted and Indented
Case: Lower Case
After applying source formatting all my td tags get formatted
like this:
text
<td> tag contents</td>
text
Or if there are many lines of code between the td's they get
formatted like
this:
text
<td> tag contents 1
tag contents2
tag contents3 </td>
text
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Kirk

Randy,
OK, I see that setting. I wondered why it wouldn't behave. I
guess it was
doing what it is supposed to do.
I guess I have seen odd behavior sometimes in IE rendering
complex table
based layouts and have had to go in and remove that space
because it
rendered the space in the source code the same way it would
have rendered a
<br>.
I guess it is better to leave the setting to "No Break" but
dang, that sure
makes the source code look ugly. I like structured nested
code, it makes it
so much easier to troubleshoot.
Now I don't know what to do.
A friend of mine used to code crazily commented, extremely
structured html
code. (former VAX programmer) He had a program that would
strip out every
extra space, and all the comments before he uploaded it. He
kept two
versions, almost like a programmer keeps source code and
delivered code.
That would be a solution around my problem, but I am too lazy
to maintain
source and delivered code.
Thanks,
Kirk

  • Extract Pages- and the Split- not doing what I expect them to

    I have a document created in Illustrator (CS4) which has multiple artboards. I want it split into multiple documents, one art board—> one document with only that artwork. When I use the Extract PAges… and the Split… comands to generate multiple documents, I get the multiple docs (same number of docs created as pages in original doc).
    Only thing is every doc has all the artboards and all the artwork as the original doc. I could understand all the artwork being there but all the artboards also?? What's going on?
    Appreciate any pointers on this.
    Trying to write a JSX to run in AI but struggling so far. Thread for AI solution started here: AS) export single page PDFs from multi-artboards

    I don't expect mind reading but I'l settle for careful reading
    I tried to explain how pages and artboards are qualitatively different objects only to be told they are the same thing and that's all I needed to say.
    I tried to explain that opening the very same file in Illustrator showed a lot more objects than it did in Acrobat. You probably don't remember because you breezed over something that you didn't think you needed to know because you were, at each stage, a step ahead of me (slow down already!).
    From my second post:
    I can't remember if Splitting gave enumerate files or the one file but either way ALL the artwork was in the enumerate files if they got made [.…] I ended up saving as CS3 .ai files which gives a Save artboards to seperate files option and, unlike the artboard range option on Save As PDF, it actually works.
    From my third post
    An artboard is not a page as far as Acrobat and Illustrator apps are concerned. I was trying to highlight the distinctly different way the two apps handle them. I can watch a one page with just one shape document in Acrobat become a 20 artboard, 40+ objects layout in Illustrator. Same document interpreted as one Page in Acrobat and 23 artboards in AI.
    I was on this forum because even a manual Document Menu> Split… command is not doing what I expected with the AI generated 23pp PDF file. I expected the 23 individual 'artboards' and content to each make a separate file.

    I don't remember you mentioning that you re-imported the PDF files into Illustrator.  This is an important detail. You also posted to an Acrobat scripting forum and never said you were not interested in an Acrobat Script.  You also never explained the problem you were seeing.  You were never clear.
    Covered that but note Illustrator doesn't import PDF files. .ai .eps and .pdf are all native files for Illustrator and just open, sometimes with an additional dialogue to choose a page from multiple pages. It imports .dwg, .svg and that sort of thing relying on translator plugins. This is the fourth time I'm saying I should have posted in Acrobat Win or Mac not scripting, apologies I was scripting when I made OP and probably frustrated. You were more clear it's true, clearly ignoring what I was getting at in each post re artboard cf. page objects.
    You see, in a PDF file each page has it's own content stream, i.e., a stream of vector graphics operators.  Graphics can be drawn anywhere in the coordinate space, but the page view is clipped by a crop rectangle.  So graphics can exist in the stream, but never be visible to the user because they are outside the crop.  I get the impression that in Illustrator the Artboards all exist in a single coordinate space? And that the conversion to PDF places this entire coordinate space into a single content stream. Then each page would be a different crop of the same content stream.  If this is the case then I believe there are PDF optimization operations in Acrobat that would fix your problem by removing all content outside the crop.
    Yeah I've hacked lots of PDF files in AI. They use more than one clipping rect per page from memory. Correct, the artboards are defined in a single co-ord space it would seem — artboards are discretely and independently located on the document canvas and can even overlap each other. Yes those operations might work, I never though of that, I came across an Illustrator based solution early on in this thread. There's no conversion going on in Acrobat though I think, the file stays native PDF from AI to Acrobat and back to AI. As I've noted it's the way Acrobat displays or parses the data that in effect hides all the 'off-page' objects but open the same file in AI and it's all still there.
    You know, we can't read minds, you actually have to explain what it is you need.
    I didn't know it, but I needed to get a confirmation on the artboardRange property bug in Illustrator CS4 and/or a confirmation that artboards are not treated as page objects, and I ended up having to lecture you on something you may have no interest in, sorry if I've been a pain. This is part of bigger bug elsewhere that I've been trying to get resolved or around on and off for a month. Every turn another bug, it gets confusing and frustrating at times

  • Want to make 3d sphere, 3d revolve isn't doing what I want

    So I've got illustrator CC and I'm trying to map a pattern of a golf ball on to a sphere but it isn't doing what I'd like - it's distorting my circles the wrong way. I found a blog post about using a custom plugin, but the plugin looks like it's outdated. Wondering if there is a way to get the desired effect in CC that I'm missing? Here's the post I'm talking about, and I want to make a golf ball similar to the one in the picture. Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Mail Just Isn't Doing What it Should

    I've been having problems with Mail for the past few months, and I've become so fed up I needed to post here to see if anyone has any suggestions on how to make things better.
    My original problem was that mail would keep downloading messages I had deleted from the server, especially spam messages, such that I would have to delete the same spam message 6-7 times per day to keep my mailbox free of spam. My trash folder would like rather ridiculous with many duplicate copies of the same message. I would've thought that mail would download a message from the server only once, and especially if I had deleted it it wouldn't download it again. Anyways, it didn't do this and I was quite disappointed.
    This was all while I was trying to "train" the mail program to recognize the spam from real messages, and even though some real messages were still getting tagged as spam, I needed to take it out of training so I wouldn't have the issue of deleting spam so often. So, I recently took the mail program out of training mode and set it to move spam to the junk folder (because of my real messages still being tagged as spam). As soon as I did this the scads of spam suddenly became no longer the yellow spam color that I've known to despise, but instead look black like regular messages. Because of this they are not moved into the junk folder. However when I click on them mail still thinks they are junk because I get the button to click to say that it is (Not Junk)
    Now as of this morning, Mail seems to have forgotten all of its training and is no longer setting /anything/ to junk. I am just so frustrated with this program. Usually Apple's programs are so amazing. Am I doing something terribly wrong?

    Jeffrey,
    Welcome to the Discussions. I am sorry you have waited so long to post about these issues.
    For the problem of repeated downloads, this is likely the result of some corruption in the files named MesssageUidsAlreadyDownded (there can be two), which is found in every POP account folder, along with many other files, including those storing Rules info, and Junk Rules info. This corruption can sometimes, but not often, result from strangely formated HTML messages, and problem does not happen with every mail server.
    First question that might relate to the other problem you mention is how much free disk space is on your hard drive, or if partitioned, on the boot partition?
    Second question is, was the Mail folder converted from one used by Panther's Mail program? If so, Are you using a POP account? If so, I want you to read the article at the link below, and then get back to me with some observations:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
    This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailbox you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but can also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger.
    Also, some issues could arise from a truly Overstuffed mailbox, so when you report to me the names of files seen in your INBOX.mbox folder of your principal account (if more than one), also report the size of each file or folder. Do not, however, try to list the files that are within the folder named Messages, that is found in each and every mailbox. I doubt this is applicable.
    The path to the Mail folder is Home/Library/Mail -- within the Mail folder are one or more account folders and the Mailboxes folder.
    More info, please.

  • The iMQ 2.0 restart command isn't doing what I want.

    I have installed the imq 2.0 on solaris 8 on a single host. jmq broker
    is installed by following the admin guide. When I tried to use jmqcmd
    shutdown bkr. It is shutdown without any problem. Then I use
    jmqcmd restart bkr to restart the jmqcmd It comes up with the
    following error:
    Error while connecting to the broker.
    [C4003]: Error occurred on connection creation. - caught
    javax.jms.JMSException
    Please verify that there is a broker running on the specified host and
    port or use the '-b' option to specify the correct broker host and port.
    Restarting the broker failed.
    Eventhough I tried on different port no on the same localhost by
    typing "jmqcmd restart bkr -b localhost:1111", it is still the same
    problem.
    When I tried to run jmqadmin, and connect to the specified broker, it
    prompts with an error box as below:
    Error encountered while connecting to the broker: "MyBroker":
    Broker Host: 'localhost'
    Primary Port: '7676'
    [C4003]: Error occurred on connection creation, - caught
    javax.jms.JMSException
    Please verify that there is a broker running on the specified host and
    port.
    It seems that the port 7676 is still engaged by the broker for some
    reasons. ie. the shutdown does not free up the port.
    Would somebody have any idea on what went wrong?

    The 'restart' option in both jmqcmd and jmqadmin is to
    first shutdown and then restart a running broker.
    It is not for starting a broker that has already been shutdown.
    See p.130 of the admin guide.

  • Boundary on "CASE WHEN" does not what i expect

    Hi!
    The results of query1 are exactly what i expect but when i compare the counts with CASE WHEN (query2) then i get double records where the count is exactly 8. The value of Result on the second record becomes Null. This seems to me somewhat strange.

  • Upgrade to media source 5 and now does not recognize my Zen Touch player!?

    JUpgrade to media source 5 and now does not recognize my Zen Touch player!
    st off, I was having issues with mp3's transferring to my zen touch, it would say file cannot transfer, invalid format or something of the like.. The creative audio converter would not allow the file to be converted as it said the source was not availble, all odd as the files worked fine on my computer and were mp3 format. I did get them to transfer after downloading another 3rd party converter, I wanted to get past using another program though so I updated to media source 5, along with firmware updates to most recent for the zen touch.
    Once I had updated it would not recognize my player, I opened version 3.xxx whatever and it did recognize. Thinking maybe it has an issue with both being installed I unistalled the old version. Same problem, still does not see my player. I upated the driver for the player as well, and my computer now could see the zen touch instead of unknown usb device, media source 5 no go still at this point. I opened windows media 0 and it saw the player and I could transfer files, but the lay out and editing cababilities are limited.
    Basically I want to know what to do get this thing detected so I can use media source 5 to organize my files. Someone please help me.

    N Oh how I love the beauty of forums! Fantastic. So you know the fix went for my issue here, I had already upgraded the zen/jukebox driver to version 2.0 to no avail, and did not get the play for sure firmware as it says all data will be lost, but I did upgrade with the other option on the support downloads section before as well to no avail. Thanks to?GuyGraham, after I installed the app update for Creative ZEN and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer it works once again!! I just do not see how this file isn't included with the media source 5 application in the first place. Either or thanks a lot you guys, problem sovled!

  • Colour Management - who does what - Some thoughts now the smoke is clearing

    First up, thanks very much to everyone who contributed their ideas and expertise to my recent query here, when I was seeking help for a problem with colour management issues when printing a magazine I edit. I have a ton of suggestions  to work through and study but the smoke is slowly clearing and it raises some interesting points which I think are worth recounting.
    First of all, I have been editing short run magazines now for 25 years, at first part time and later on a professional contract basis.  I am not a trained graphic designer nor a trained printer. I did start out training as a graphic designer, many years ago but gave it up for a career in IT (as a networking specialist). That was full time until 10 years ago, although I did some freelance writing and editing in my spare time.
    And yes, I did start originally with scissors and cut and paste, and moved on through black and white with spot colour and Pagemaker software  to full colour and InDesign today. One thing which may be different about my experience to most of yours is that I am a PC user and always have been. All my editing and graphics work has always been done on a PC - Pagemaker was our DTP package of choice for a long time and we supplemented this with Corel-Draw (which has a range of graphics handling options). All my software is legal and I always register it and keep it up to date. I have used the same graphic designer for quite a few years now and whenever we upgrade our software he goes and gets trained on the latest release.
    Around 10 years ago I was offered the chance to edit a specialist short run magazine (not the current one). This was a chance I took and gave up the day job and became a full time freelance. Editing is not my main or only source of income. I am also  a freelance writer and photographer and heritage consultant and I have a specialist image library.   I sell my own sell my work - articles and pictures - to the national and local press. I also write books (non fiction) on commission. The magazine editing is really an extension of my interest in historic landscapes. I have never had any complaints, or problems, with the freelance work, photos and archived images I sell.  Clients include national newspapers here in the UK, national magazine groups and my books are available in national bookstore chains. I supply my work digitally, naturally, and it includes photos I have taken myself and items which I have scanned into my library of historical images and store on line. No reported colour management issues there.
    I have always enjoyed a good relationship with my publishers and printers because I seek to be as professional as possible, which means delivering my stuff on time, to the required standard so that minimum intervention is required from them. This does assume that I have a clear brief from them on what they need from me.
    Recently this approach has not been enough to avoid colour management issues with the short run magazine I currently edit. I have been wondering when  and where things went astray and date it back to the upgrade to InDesign two years ago. However it may have its roots in my earlier decision to use PCs not Macs for my work.
    Until 4 years ago I had used the same printers for magazine editing for many years. They were a well respected firm specialising in short run magazines. They were not far from where I live and work and if there was a problem I would go over and discuss it with them. They were happy, and competent, to handle Pagemaker files generated on a PC and convert my rgb images to cmyk if there was any concern about the colour balance. On a few occasions I paid them to scan a photo for me. However 4 years ago the owner decided to retire and shut up shop. I needed to find a new printers and it had to be someone who specialised in short run magazines and could meet the budget of the charity I edit for. Also someone who could handle copy generated using Pagemaker running on a PC. I chose a printers I had used briefly in the past  where I knew some of the staff and was promised PC based Pagemaker would not be a problem. I even got this in writing. I started to send them proofs generated using Pagemaker v7 on my PC.
    I soon found that although they had agreed they could handle Pagemaker on a PC in fact they had only a few PC based clients and were using a single ageing PC running Pagemaker to proof their work. In fact nearly all their jobs were Quark based. I was also told we had to supply CMYK images although not given any further requirement so I now did the conversions from rgb to CMYK using my PhotoPaint software. (There are quite a few settings in Corel for the conversion but there was no guidance  by the printer on which to use so to be honest it did not occur to me that it might be a problem).
    Now of course I understand that the drive to get customers to supply CMYK images was a Quark driven requirement back in the late 1990s. I did not and do not use Quark so knew nothing for this.  I did have some early colour problems and font incompatibilities with the new printers and was pressured by their senior Graphic Designer (who designed for their own contract clients) to upgrade to InDesign and provide them with a .pdf, which I was assured would solve all my problems. The .pdf would be the same as the final printed magazine because "it would not require any further intervention by the printers".
    I expect you are collectively throwing up your hands in horror at this point, but I think he was speaking genuinely. The creation of a .pdf  using InDesign, is widely promoted as the ultimate answer to all printing issues.   I have encountered it recently with a lot of printers' salesmen and my friend, who edits a learned journal, has just been told the same thing by her printers, to get her to upgrade to ID. Incidentally she also uses a PC.
    So we upgraded our design process in house to InDesign and our graphic designer went on a course, two courses in fact. When we came to produce our first .pdf using ID, the printers'  Senior Graphic designer came on the phone and talked our designer through the ID Export function. I think he may at that time have told him to create a preset profile with MPC and the defaults, but to be honest I don't recall. We were never sent anything in writing about what settings we needed to match theirs. I continued to have intermittant colour management problems but put this down to my photos. Things came to head with the most recent issue where the colours were badly out on the cover, supplied by a press agency and taken by a professional photographer. The printers seemed to have little or no idea about possible causes.
    Initially I thought that part of the underlying cause must lie in some mismatch between what I was sending the printers and what they expected to receive so I asked them to specify what I should send. All they said was use Profile preset as MPC setting and accept  the defaults which accompany it.
    So I came on here looking for a solution. A lot of people were keen to offer their own experience which I really appreciate. However the messages could be conflicting. Some of you suggested it was the underlying cover photo which was at fault, some that it was my monitor which needed better calibration.
    Many of you here said that part of the problem, if not the whole problem, was the way I was generating my CMYKs for the printer and I should use Photoshop to do this. You also mentioned a number of possible colour management settings which I should try.
    At times the advice seemed to change tack. There were suggestions that the colour management issues I had  were nothing to do with the printers, that it was up to me not them. Quite a lot of you said I needed to be better informed about Colour Management issues. I agree, but I had never had any previously (maybe good luck, maybe good support from my previous printer) so I was not even aware that I needed to be better informed.  Some of you mildly chastised me for not finding out more and doing more to manage my own colour management with the switch to ID. To which I can only say if I had needed to train up, I would have done. I did not realise I needed to.  Nor was my designer aware of the issues as colour management was not really covered on his ID courses which were about typesetting and design.
    Some of you even seemed to hint that unless I was prepared to use an expensive high end printer or effectively retrain as a print specialist or get my graphic designer to do so, then I probably shouldn't be in the magazine editing game at all. OK maybe that is a bit harsh but you get the drift.
    The fact is that printing is much more accessible these days to all sorts of people and in particular to people with PCs. My brother lives in a large village in an isolated area and produces a village magazine which has been a great success. It is in black and white with spot colour but he would like to move to an all colour issue. He is a bit nervous of the colour management issues as he has no experience of graphic design and is his own designer using a low end entry level design package. He too uses a PC. The printers reps all tell him the same thing they tell me, that all he needs to supply is a .pdf using InDesign.
    Somewhere I feel a black hole has developed, maybe back in the 1990s with Quark 4.11. A lot of printers standardised on that, and set up a work flow and prepress dependent on CMYK images as provided by the clients. They assumed the the clients would doing their own colour management. This approach also assumes everyone is using Quark on a Mac with the full range of Adobe software. When it became possible to generate .pdfs using InDesign, this was held out to users as the Holy Grail of magazine printing, even though their workflows and prepress were still based on Quark 4.11 principles. Any underlying colour management issues the clients now have to tackle themselves.
    So now we have the situation in which I find myself, having to learn from scratch a good deal about colour management issues so that I can tell the printers what is needed for my magazine. Meanwhile all the printing salesmen, the ones I encounter anyway, are still busy pushing the InDesign to .pdf as the "be all and end all" solution. Some re-education is needed for all parties I think.

    I am glad to see that the sun is peeping through the clouds.
    I apologise for my Aussie-style straight talk earlier, but as I said before it was not directed personally at you but in the direction of others whom you epitomize, repeating a conversation I have had many times over the last 10 years or so where respectable, well-meaning photographers, designers and other contributors refuse to accept that colour management is being thrust upon them.
    It is a simple fact of life, there is this 'new' thing that has butted into the very root of our trades and changed the most basic principles of printing and photography.  We expect that this kind of thing does not happen but the industry we now work in is not the same one we trained in twenty years ago.
    Many printers are still struggling with the same conflict, so many tradespeople cannot accept this change.
    This is exacerbated by the fact that colour management is so complicated to learn and implement and confounded by the fact that the default settings and a clumsy workflow often yield acceptable results with incorrect, generic settings, hence the old 'use InDesign and make a PDF and it will be ok' route.
    When the chain of colour management includes the photographer, the photographer's client, the designer, the other designer maybe, the prepress person, and the platemaker, and a single incorrect click by any one of those can kill the CM it is not surprising that in the end when someone is looking back to see where it fell over they usually never find out.....   They will meet someone who says ' I never touched it, I simply opened the file and scaled it and closed it'.  And that person will be a reputable photographer or designer (and CLIENT) who has no idea they just broke it.  So what do we do?  We go with the generic setting that seems to yield adequate results therefore avoiding the confrontation.
    You need to understand the situation of the printer who took his business through the 'early' days of colour management, we had all kinds of very reputable sources supplying incorrect files, we did not have the expertise yet to be able to address the entire workflow, it would have meant training photographers and designers all through the best design houses and national institutions, because they blamed the printer.  Only in the last few years have I seen these people coming around to the fact that they bear responsibility for implementing their own cm and maintaining it through their own work.
    Sadly, many high end sources are still not there, and I mean HIGH end!  Probably the ones that don't even visit this forum because they want to keep blaming the printer... They tend to live with the poor quality reproductions and just pull up the worst ones and fiddle with those and try to avoid the 'elephant in the room'.
    I am sorry to say that it was not practical for a printer to reject mismanaged files for fear of losing clients who would happily accept less than perfect results in order to avoid the painful truth that was being told to them.  The best thing we could do was to gently make those clients aware that their workflow was imperfect and hope to show them how we could help...  Many print shops do not have someone knowledgeable enough or patient enough to do this, or the boss does not understand the issue either and tries to work around it to keep his jobs flowing in the expectation that all those experts in the chain will eventually tame the thing.
    The many experts on this holy forum are waaaaayyyy ahead of the printing industry in general and photographers and designers in general in their understanding of colour management workflow.  I have seen first hand how reputable local industry people and trainers alike are spreading misinformation and bad techniques, when I discovered these forums back in about 2002 I found that they opened up a whole new galaxy of knowledge and facts that actually worked and made sense, unlike what I had been told locally....  This forum taught me what the Adobe text books did not, the Tech' teachers did not, local 'experts' did not!
    I tell all interested people to join these forums and learn to discriminate between the good and bad information.

  • Gonna Take my G5 in for service (Applecare) What to expect?

    Hey guys, years ago i bought my beloved dual G5. This thing has served me INCREDIBLY well and has taken some serious abuse, not physically, but constant rendering 24/7, heavy audio recording, more rendering+assigning net-rendering, basically one huge workhorse.
    WEll this past year things kind of quit working. Most annoyingly, video card just quit working with openGL, ie anything that requires openGL just shows up black veiwports. next we have the gigabit ethernet, that just REFUSES to fully connect. I installed a PCI network card, and i hate being back on 100mb lan. Icing on the cake was dvd burner hardly works. I think even moreso something is up with the IDE channel, because i put another compatible burner in and get nothing but i/o errors.
    And lets not forget all the problems that randomly occur when using firewire/usb devices. Random complete lockups (in PC world id say bad power supply) FW devices appearing/disappearing
    So i figured my applecare ran out, but i checked it and what do ya know? It's sitll in effect itl april 22nd. YAY!
    What i mean by what to expect is, I've heard the stories of people taking in their mac's and coming back with more modern machines because what they brought in just hasnt been around in forever. So what am i to expect? Should i just to be safe remove my extra hard drives/ram? I know everything is intel now, allot of recording and 3D plugins i run are still PowerPC, though more and more everyday are UB. So basically, are they going to fix up my machine (totally fine with me) or is there a chance i'd come out of this with some intel machine?
    I know whatever apple does i'll be happy and back to work in the end. The problems arent from misuse, the machine sits in a clean environment, i watch the temps in the summer, and i take great care of it. i say it's more from overuse. They were incredibly helpful when i brought them an ancient G3 wallstreet a few years ago. Told me they didnt support it, but sitll told me what was wrong, where to get the new parts, all for free at the geek bar.
    Any thoguhts? I know i should call em, but its easter. Im just excited i dont have to pay out the arse to get my machine back to where it used to be.

    Oh theyll just charge me to backup? I'm not too worried, i have most of my important stuff on my second hdd, anything else i can throw all over my network. And ill remove anything 3rd party that was installed by me (Ram, HDD, network card cause mine died)
    I was actually just going to format it before i take it in. Forgot to call em today, grr..
    My only complaint, i'll have to reload everything! Unless i can find about 50gigs to make an image of my OS drive and throw it somewhere..hmm...
    I still cant believe its under warranty. That made my week. Though i hope they dont need EVERYTHING, ie mouse and keyboard cause yea, i gave my original mouse to a now ex gf, and i'm using a 5 button belkin.
    I'm sitting back watching my buddies have issues with Micro$oft and their XBox 360's. one guys on his 3rd, the other his second. Wont let them transfer/backup stuff they payed for, DRM wont let them move it, Microsoft is calling shenanigans since they've exchanged it and registered so many serial numbers, they think theres hacking going on...
    If only other places were as caring as apple.

  • I just used stellar phoenix mac data recovery and it seemed to work but now my files won't open.  Even though they are "jpeg, mov" files the error message is  could not be opened. The movie's file format isn't recognized. "  Any help or are they corrupted

    I just used stellar phoenix mac data recovery and it seemed to work but now my files won't open.  Even though they are "jpeg, mov" files, the error message is  "could not be opened". The movie's file format isn't recognized. "  Any help or are they corrupted?

    Sounds to me like the file is probably corrupt. If you had hard drive corruption or damage, that could easily result in recovered files not being fully intact. If you were trying to recover accidentally deleted files, it's possible they might have been partially overwritten before recovering. There are never any guarantees with file recovery.
    Without more information on the circumstances that led you to try recovery, it's hard to give advice on what to try from here. You could always try another file recovery tool, like Data Rescue 3. Just be sure you're taking appropriate precautions when doing recovery. See Recovering deleted files.

  • 13.1 source formatting broken (Mac)

    I see the update news this morning and I'm like "Cool! Maybe I'll give old DW another chance, it's been such a long time, lets see how it's matured!"
    Five min in I notice that auto-indent and "apply source formatting" are both broken.  I just assumed this was the tip of the iceberg and went back to doing work with SublimeText.

    Ya, I could use some help... justifying my 50$/month payment.
    Dreamweaver continues to have an identity crisis, like many adobe products. Who exactly is Adobe targeting with this app?
    Where exactly do Adobe edge code and reflow fit into this equation?  Will they be part of DW one day?  Or will they pull a "Fireworks" and kill them in favor of an inferior bloated legacy product?
    These lingering, nerve-wracking questions have forced many pros to look for alternatives to Adobe products. Some of which have become pretty solid.
    So, back to you're original question, yes, if it isn't obvious, this is a rant.  :)

  • Side-chain filter does what exactly?

    I'm sure this must be covered somewhere, but I can't find specifics in the manual or previous posts here.
    Which signal does the side-chain filter in LP8's compressor affect--the side chain signal (i.e., compression only occurs when certain frequencies are present in the sidechain source signal) or the audio that's being compressed (i.e., only compresses certain frequencies in the track in which the compressor is inserted)?
    If it's the former, how does one compress only specific frequencies using a side-chained signal? I'm asking partly because I want to use a kick drum to compress a somewhat bright bass, but I'd like to try compressing only the lower frequencies of the bass, down where the kick drum's frequencies overlap.
    Hope I've explained this all clearly.

    Randall--thanks so much for all your info. Like Dalek, I initially thought the side-chain filter does what I needed to do, but I guess not. The solution is a bit complicated, but that's not your fault; you didn't write the software, and at least you thought of a clever way to do selective-frequency ducking in Logic. I haven't had time to try it yet, unfortunately, but hope to tomorrow. I've taken the liberty of pasting below your post that you linked to on the Logic Pro Help board (hope this is OK), mostly so that anyone else with this same problem can find the answer all in one thread.
    Randall's post:
    Pursuant to my previous tip on improving noise gate performance:
    http://logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=17553
    . . . a couple of people asked me if I'd write up how to do selective frequency bandwidth ducking to improve a signals presence in a busy mix. So I thought Christmas day would be a good time to write this up and create an example as I'm deliberately not doing any "real" work today!
    So here's the typical problem. A bunch of noisy guitars driving along and you want to inject an acoustic guitar or vocal lead in there once in a while. But you can't get the track hot enough or eq'd enough to overcome the noisy guitars. Ducking the guitars with either automation or a sidechained compressor might be too noticable, so this trick allows you to just duck the specific frequency range that is masking your lead track. Here's how to do it:
    Note: the attached LP8 example just uses some stock Apple Loops that everyone should have, (I hope).
    1. This is a mix technique and we'll be assigning plugs to auxes, so make sure PDC is set to "All" in your preferences.
    2. Assign your noisy guitar tracks to a bus. We'll use bus 10 as in my example.
    3. Assign your lead track to your main outputs. Create a Send on this track to bus 11 and set its level to unity, (ctrl-click the send).. This will also create an aux in your mixer. Delete this aux.
    4. Create 2 new aux channels. Assign both their inputs to Bus 10, and both their outputs to your main outs.
    5. Don't put any plugs on the first aux. On the second aux, (from top to bottom) place a Linear Phase EQ, a Noise Gate, then a Gain plug.
    6. Set the EQ up with a Lopass and a Hipass only, with steep 48dB/oct slopes. Leave the Q at .71.
    7. Set the Noise Gate as follows.
    Threshold & Reduction: -100dB
    Attack, Hold & Release: 0mS
    Hysteresis: -20dB
    Lookahead: 20.000mS
    Sidechain: Bus 11
    8. Open the Gain plug and enable Phase Invert(s). Close the Gain plug.
    Here's what's happening in my example. When the acoustic guitar plays, the gate opens up on the second aux track that has the flipped phase noisy guitar signal. With the EQ bypassed and the aux faders at unity, you'l hear none of the noisy guitars as they will cancel out. In my example, I want to hear more of the body of the acoustic guitar which is about 225 to 1300 Hz so that's what I've set the EQ to pass. So now everything below and above that band won't be canceled. If I drop the fader down on the second aux, then the signal isn't cancelled as much.
    When the acoustic plays, the body of the guitar sound comes through the mix a bit more as I'm attenuating the noisy guitars just in that band and just while the acoustic is playing. So your guitars can keep driving along!
    You have a lot of control as you can tweak the reversed aux's fader for the amount of ducking and tweak the lo and hi pass freq parameters on the EQ to tune the band that gets ducked.

  • Why my XML is not loading ?? (ORA-19007: Schema - does not match expected )

    Hi,
    I want to load a XML document in structured XMLType. You can run my code on your database if you have a directory object called LOG_DIR. I am on Oracle 10.1 .
    The schema is a simple example which describe a database table(like it will have 1 or more columns and 0 or more indexes). My schema looks like,
    <xs:schema elementFormDefault="qualified" attributeFormDefault="unqualified" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
    <xs:element name="Tables" type="Table">
    <xs:annotation>
    <xs:documentation>Table defination</xs:documentation>
    </xs:annotation>
    </xs:element>
    <xs:element name="table_name" type="xs:string"/>
    <xs:complexType name="Table">
    <xs:sequence>
    <xs:element name="Column" type="Column" minOccurs="1"/>
    <xs:element name="Index" type="Index" minOccurs="0"/>
    </xs:sequence>
    </xs:complexType>
    <xs:complexType name="Column">
    <xs:annotation>
    <xs:documentation>Column of the table</xs:documentation>
    </xs:annotation>
    <xs:sequence>
    <xs:element name="Name" type="xs:string" minOccurs="1"/>
    <xs:element name="Type" type="xs:string" minOccurs="1"/>
    <xs:element name="Capacity" type="xs:decimal" minOccurs="1"/>
    </xs:sequence>
    </xs:complexType>
    <xs:complexType name="Index">
    <xs:annotation>
    <xs:documentation>Index on the table</xs:documentation>
    </xs:annotation>
    <xs:sequence>
    <xs:element name="Name" type="xs:string" minOccurs="1"/>
    <xs:element name="Type" type="xs:string" minOccurs="0"/>
    </xs:sequence>
    </xs:complexType>
    </xs:schema>
    I registered the schema,
    BEGIN
    DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.registerSchema(
    SCHEMAURL => 'tables.xsd',
    SCHEMADOC => bfilename('LOG_DIR','tables.xsd'),
    CSID => nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')
    END;
    This was successfull, also the following create table was ok,
    CREATE TABLE TMP_XML_TABLES
    file_name VARCHAR2(2000),
    load_date DATE,
    xml_document XMLType
    XMLType COLUMN xml_document
    XMLSchema "http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/schemas/TDB/tables.xsd"
    ELEMENT "Tables";
    Now I have a XML document,
    <Tables xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/schemas/TDB/tables.xsd">
    <table_name>trades</table_name>
    <Column><Name>trade_id</Name><Type>varchar2</Type><Capacity>50</Capacity></Column>
    <Column><Name>source</Name><Type>varchar2</Type><Capacity>100</Capacity></Column>
    <Column><Name>trade_date</Name><Type>date</Type></Column>
    <Column><Name>trader</Name><Type>varchar2</Type><Capacity>200</Capacity></Column>
    <Index><Name>trades_pk</Name><Type>btree</Type></Index>
    <Index><Name>trades_idx1</Name><Type>bitmap</Type></Index>
    </Tables>
    When I am trying to load this, I get the error,
    SQL> INSERT INTO TMP_XML_TABLES
    2 VALUES
    3 ('tables1.xml',
    4 sysdate,
    5 XMLType
    6 (
    7 bfilename('LOG_DIR','tables1.xml'),
    8 nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')
    9 )
    10 );
    INSERT INTO TMP_XML_TABLES
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-19007: Schema - does not match expected tables.xsd.
    Can somebody please explain the cause ???
    Thanks and Regards

    A quick search of the forum for ORA-19007 should have allowed you to find the answer to your problem. Since you XML Schema does not declare a target namespace you need to use the xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation tag rather than the schemaLocation tag..
    Also please do not use URLs starting http://xmlns.oracle.com for your schemaLocation hint. If you do no own your own domain I'd suggest example.org...
    Finally please make sure that your XML Instance is valid per your XML Schema before posting. You can do this using tools like JDeveloper or XMLSpy. What should have been a 5 min repsonse took me over 20 mins to work through due to the errors in the XML Schema...
    Anyway here's a working example for you
