Space needed for os update on ipad

Trying to update to iOS 7.0.3 but keep getting error message, what is the space needed to update, please

No way to know exactly, but between 800MB and 1.3GB. Since the installer file comes compressed, more room is needed to contain the original AND the unpacked result till everything checks out and the new replaces the old.
All this cause you're doing Over The Air updating.
If you do it thru iTunes and a computer, the installer gets downloaded and unpacked there, then only written onto the final resting spot on the iPad's storage. Thereby requiring drastically less room.

  • Why wont itunes download onto my computer? I need it to update my ipad and use cloud etc

    I keep trying to download itunes onto my computer as I need it to update my ipad and use cloud etc. I phoned apple support and they could not work out why it will not download on my computer. I am going into the apple shop to get help but just wondered if anyone else has this problem, the only thing I can think of is that my internet connection/broadband is very slow. Anybody any ideas?

    What web browser are you using? Maybe the browser stopped the  download of iTunes.
    Try downloading iTunes again with another browser -> http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • Space needed for AutoCAD, Pro/E in Bootcamp

    I am entering college in the fall and am planning to go into mechanical engineering. This means I will need to run several engineering programs such as AutoCAD and Pro/E on my 13" MacBook Pro. How much space should I give windows 7 to be able to run these programs comfortably?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
    40GB for Windows 7 alone is considered a good choice round here.
    Add to that the amount of diskspace needed by the programs you want to install/use plus the space needed for your files.
    I don't run Autocad or something similar so I am not familiar with the diskpace it and the user files need.

  • Excessive space needed for photos?

    I've got a 368kb folder of photos I want to sync to my iPod Nano, and it won't sync unless there's a ridiculous amount of free space on my iPod. It wouldn't do it at 50mb free, but it finally gave at 75mb. Why in the world would I need that much space available for that little amount?
    I've got the latest version of iTunes and latest updates for the Nano. Thanks in advance.

    Hello btabz,
    Thank you for your reply. Here are the steps I have taken before, and to be sure, I just did them all again:
    1. Checked to see if there were any software/firmware updates available for iTunes/the iPod nano. I am up to date with both.
    2. Did a complete restore on the iPod to make sure there are no hidden files that may be using extra space anywhere.
    3. When setting up my iPod again in iTunes, I unchecked the options to automatically update and automatically add pictures. I then went to the iPod options and selected the option to automatically update from a playlist, leaving all the bottom options in the iPod tab at the default settings. The playlist is 850mb on a 1gb nano, leaving me with 32.7mb free.
    4. I then went back to the iPod options to choose to sync photos from a newly created folder, completely outside the previous directory I had tried before. The folder and the 22 pictures in it make up only 512kb. After an attempted sync, I get the error that there is not enough room for my photos and music, so the pictures don't ever make it to the iPod.
    5. After reducing the playlist size to 831.4mb (leaving 50.4mb free on the iPod), the pictures sync with no errors reported.
    I hope I've given a detailed enough description. I appreciate any more feedback.

  • Space needed for Photoshop Elements 9

    Hi.  I am an amateur photo taker but want to step it up a bit and am considering getting Elements 9. I recently purchased a small NETbook to use just for photos- to alter them and post them online and then I will be saving them on an external hard drive or CD due to space limitations.  The computer only came with 2gb of space. I am afraid that if i purchase elements, it might not load.  My external hard drive has quite a bit of space available so I was thinking I could run the installation through that for the spaces needed.  I was curious if anyone knew if it would falter during the install.  I just tried to download the trail on my work computer which has 3.13gb of space free and that said not enough space.  so now I am worried.

    You may also experience display problems e.g. not seeing all of the program real estate.
    A common display resolution, notably for notebooks/laptops and netbooks is 1024 x 768 but PSE9 requires a screen height of 800 for full functionality.

    Depends on how fast your system and your harddisks are.

  • Need for Keyboard Updater for Replacement Keyboard

    Apple Care just sent me a replacement Keyboard and it works great.
    My question is do I need the run the Apple Keyboard Update 1.0 again?
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/applekeyboardupdat e10.html
    I suspect change is already in my 10.5.6 (Build 9G66) and it is internal to the
    iMac rather than something that needs to be updated in the actual keyboard

    That update was not for your Mac.
    You are correct! I selected the wrong updater. I think this is the one for my iMac
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/aluminumkeyboardfi rmwareupdate10.html
    I just downloaded it and got a dialog box saying
    Your keyboard does not need this update
    It already has the updated functionality.

  • Is there any internet security needed for use with the ipad 2??

    is there any internet security needed for the ipad 2?  I.e. For when you're shopping online etc?

    You don't have to purchase a mouse. You already have one, it's wireless and the only one that will work on an iPad.

  • HT201364 how do i make more space available for mavericks update?

    how do i make more space avaialble for mavericks update

    One place to check is the hidden Library folder under your user account. From the Finder Menu click Go > Go To Folder > Enter: ~/Library/
    IF YOU ARE UNSURE DO NOT DELETE SOMETHING
    You may be able to find refrences to old applications that you have uninstalled. There is another folder inside that one called Application Support (~/Library/Application Support/). Same idea goes here, old software folders can be safely blown away. Don't forget to empty the Trash!
    Bonus Points?
    You can use the same technique on the /Library folder aswell!
    Happy Deleting!

  • A thought about HD sizes and mimimum disk space needed for OS X

    This has just occurred to me and I am looking for more accurate numbers to help advise posters here, more accurately, when the situation occurs.
    In this day and age of Macs with 500 Gigabyte and 1-4 Terrabyte drives, do we still need to tell people that have filled up their Macs' HDs that they need to leave 15-20 % of the total drive size free for OS X to still work properly.
    Because this, actually, equates to a mimimum of 100 Gigabytes to, at least, 200 Gigabytes or more, for larger drives, of drive space that needs to be cleared of data! Just to have enough drive space for OS X?
    Does anyone else thinks that this is a ridiculous amount that OS X, by itself, actually needs to run smoothly?
    Does anyone here have a better estimation of just how many GBs OS X uses on an average basis?
    I would rather have a more realistic size to have remaining on a hard drive than to keep using the percentage rule.
    I know the percentage rule was used in the day when we had smaller capacity drives, so it would still apply in those situations.
    But I do not think it no longer applies when drive capacities are so much larger today and getting larger.
    Any thoughts and more realistic numbers welcome.

    At 18% you start hitting where finding and writiing files and longer seeks as well as fragmentation starts to play a role.
    Mac Pro has 4 internal drives. Most learn to keep lean mean boot drives.
    Video and graphic or medfia storage perfrmance drops off at 70% level even with an array though you can push past that.
    The only people that should be concerned are those with single dirve setups and that don't have the luxury of just pulling drive sled and upgrading.
    I keep boot drive @ 50%. I don't like having all my files in one basket. And backups are external as well.
    Below 10% you should be getting low on space error messages and it is the directory as I said that may not be large enough or fragmented. And a clone will help. Disk Warrior buiids a single non-fragmented while TechTool Pro will write if necessary if it can't write or create a directory.
    Re-initializing your drives with each new OS or change under the hood is also a good idea as there are changes to partition structure that an update may try to modify but never like having the drive initialized.
    If you are looking and won't take no for an answer fine. Seems like you have what you want the answer to be and looking for something to support it.

  • New iTunes & need for Safari Update, why do I need Safari!?

    I absolutely HATE Safari, why do we need to install the latest version to be able to get into iTunes, or have it at all? This is why I do not trust updates "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
    Seriously thinking of going elsewhere for my music needs and I have been loyal to the iTunes store since day one.

    Thanks, just do not even want it taking up space on my computer. Took FOREVER to install in South America. Was not even worth it New iTunes user unfriendly.

  • Help needed for dynamic update form

    I could really use some advice - I've been asked to build a time tracking application (basically a timesheet) and I have a fair bit done but the part I am really struggling with is the best way to accommodate some of the specifications. I am NOT a programmer (I have some coldfusion experience but nothing really advanced) so I have not managed to sucessfully integrate the various methods I've found on the web so far. The database is created and so are all the queries, and I have also written a cfc to handle the drop-down menu logic needed but I don't really know how to integrate it with the form.
    Our production server has ColdFusion MX7 so all the great functionality in the CF8 examples I can't use.
    The issue is the user should ideally be able to add/edit/delete multiple rows at once- I like CFGRID, and the HTML version seems best. The main issue with the Flash version is the scrolling to get to the insert/delete buttons- I couldn't see how to get rid of that. A separate add and edit form could be ok depending on how easy it is to use.
    One problem I have is that I can't work out how to have default values with the grid (the userID which is a session variable, and the date which is constantly changing- there is a cfcalendar for the user to change date).
    The biggest hurdle is the related select drop-downs I need- it's not quite as simple as the city,state,postcode examples. For the first drop down the pick an option- and for only 2 of those options there is a second drop-down. Anything else and it stops there. For the second drop-down, there are 2 options, and depending on which one of these they pick the 3rd drop-down pulls a query from one or another table in the database (2 entirely different things). The three  options have different database tables. The main timesheet table just stores the id number from those tables (so I also need to display the names on the drop-down from the options tables not the number).
    I played with simple and complicated javascript and coldfusion solutions as well, but because it's a form to update records and also because of the above specs I just couldn't get anything to work right. I tried binding with the cfc and nothing would bind, plus I don't know how to make all happen without a page reload.
    Does anyone have any advice for the best approach to this? As I mentioned I've got tables, queries and even a cfc but I'm not too clear on how to put it all together properly within the constraints of MX7.
    PS I also can't post a lot of code because of where I work- I know that's not helpful but am looking for the best approach to this, then I can work on the details. Right now I am jumping from solution to solution and not getting anywhere.

    Well, a lot of code has come and gone because I couldn't make it work, where I'm currently at is:
    <cfform name="updateform" id="updateform" action="#CurrentPage#?#CGI.QUERY_STRING#">
      <cfgrid name="MainData" height="400" insertbutton="add" deletebutton="remove" query="getMainData" insert="yes" delete="yes" rowheight="20"  selectmode="edit" format="html">
      <cfgridcolumn name="id" display="no">
    <cfgridcolumn name="userID" display="no">
    <cfgridcolumn name="entrydate" display="no">
    <cfgridcolumn name="activityID" >
    <cfgridcolumn name="typeID">
    <cfgridcolumn name="projectID" values="#ValueList(getProjects.id)#" valuesdisplay="#ValueList(getProjects.name)#">
    <cfgridcolumn name="time" width="10">
    <cfgridcolumn name="comment" width="150">
    </cfgrid>
    <cfinput type="hidden" name="entrydate" value="#Session.username#">
    <cfinput type="hidden" name="entrydate" value="#editdate#">
    <cfinput name="update" type="Submit" value="Update">
    </cfform>
    ** for some reason getProjects.name doesn't work and causes an error. I haven't worked out how to get the default inputs for the date and user ID to work either. I also tried binding and a flash form somewhere along the way.
    ** the CFC is below, #ds# didn't work and I had to put in the actual DSN name, not sure why, but anyway this is the logic of the thing. Ideally I would like to use this logic with the cfgrid, but I'm not sure if that is possible? It seems like it would be the most user friendly approach.
    The CFC so far is:
    <cfcomponent>
       <cffunction name="getActivities" access="remote" returnType="query">
            <cfquery name="getActivities" datasource="#ds#">
    SELECT * FROM timesheet_activities
    </cfquery>
            <cfreturn getActivities>
        </cffunction>
        <cffunction name="getTypes" access="remote" returnType="query">
        <cfargument name="Activity" type="any" required="true">
        <cfif ARGUMENTS.Activity EQ "">
            <cfset getType = "">
        <cfelse>
            <cfquery name="getTypes" datasource="#ds#">
            SELECT * FROM timesheet_type
            </cfquery>
        </cfif>
        <cfreturn getTypes>
        </cffunction>
        <cffunction name="GetProjects" access="remote" returnType="query">
        <cfargument name="Activity" type="any" required="true">
        <cfargument name="Type" type="any" required="true">
        <cfif ARGUMENTS.Activity EQ "" OR ARGUMENTS.Type EQ "">
            <cfset LstProjects = "">
        <cfelseif ARGUMENTS.Activity EQ "1" OR "3">
        <cfquery name="getProjects" datasource="#ds#">
    SELECT id,name FROM projectsa
    WHERE completed = 'false'
    </cfquery>
    <cfelse>
    <cfquery name="getEProjects" datasource="#dse#">
    SELECT id,name FROM projectsb
    WHERE statusID = '6'
    </cfquery>
        </cfif>
        <cfreturn getProjects>
        </cffunction>
    </cfcomponent>
    Any attempts to actually use the cfc didn't work. I tried to use it with a normal html update form and got the message- failed to bind, Activity didn't exist. I also tried to bind it to a flash grid. The argument for Activity needs to come from the drop-down Activity type selected. Maybe I'm missing something.
    ETA:
    just moved everything to the live MX7 server (because my dev server is Coldfusion8) and I get the following:
    Attribute validation error for tag CFGRID. The tag does not allow the attribute(s) BINDONLOAD,BIND.
    Does this mean I definitely can't use the CFC with the cfgrid on MX7? Or is there a way to do it?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Space needed for Time Machine backups?

    I have a 160 gb macbook pro and am wondering how much space I would need on an external hard drive if I plan on backing up with Time Machine. I bought a 500 gb drive already, but would also like to use it for backing up a pc computer and don't know if I have enough space for both. Any advice would be appreciated!

    In addition to Bob's advice, note that you should partition the drive, so Time Machine has it's own, exclusive space.
    See #5 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum) for formatting instructions.
    You'll have to figure out what Format to apply to the second partition for the PC backups, probably either MS-DOTS(FAT) or ExFAT.
