Spaces locks keyboard input

Have been running into this problem more and more frequently on both a MacBook Pro and Mac Pro tower running 10.6.1 and 10.6.2: when I Control-right-arrow to move to my other "space" one or two of two bad things will happen:
(1) the icon in the middle-bottom of the screen showing which "space" I'm in does NOT fade away and disappear
(2) I am prevented from doing ANY keyboard-input into my programs there. I will be able to click and highlight windows using the mouse, as well as see menus activating and such, but anywhere there is a text field (browser or address book or ANYwhere) keyboard input is not displayed.
The only solution is to go into the Activity Monitor and quit the Dock application.
Have been seeing this problem for a few weeks which persists through reboots and such.
Ideas?

This suddenly started happening to me yesterday and now happens every time I switch Spaces with the keyboard. I've found that the only way around it is to only use the menubar icon to switch. Because I'm so used to clicking keys to switch Spaces and still do it unconsciously, I've disabled the keys in Spaces prefs.

OSX/SL 10.6.8 all window apps lose keyboard input; mouse and cmd-N work for spaces

Input suddenly stops going to all applications, from MacBook Pro and wireless keyboards, and from "Show Keyboard viewer" (OSX 10.6.8 'Snow Leopard', MacBook Pro). Though the OSX Keyboard Viewer shows the keys onscreen as they are pressed on the MacBook and wireless keyboards. 'Spaces' responds to cmd-N commands, but no input is possible to any running or newly-started 3rd party or Apple-provided application. Killing off applications one by one doesn't recover keyboard input ability; a complete reboot appears necessary to restore the ability to key input into applications. This happens repeatedly, yet never registers as an OS/X 'crash' because 'Force Quit'ting applications and restarting is still possible using only the magic mouse or trackpad. No data whether only logging out and back in would correct the apparent input-focus disconnect of all applications with the window manager. There may be some way to restart the window manager by using the mouse to open up new apps and/or cut and paste characters ( including a carriage return ) or cut and paste entire saved typed commands into a terminal window.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Caps lock keyboard no sound

I am a novice trying to learn Logic Pro 9. I have been following the initial instructions using Exploring Logic Pro. I am at the very begining and have been instructed to load cap lock keyboard after placing a software instrument. I click on a keynote but get no sound. I have looked elsewhere and have tried a suggestion to make sure that in Logic preferences//Audio and use I/built in output and built in input and to change buffer from 256 to 128. Still no sound. Any suggestions?

Troubleshoot keyboard input problem

the right hand shift key, and full stop, have stopped working. When I attached a different apple keyboard the same thing happened to it. The only way I can get a full stop is with the numeric pad, and the only way to get shift is with the left hand shift key. Does anyone have a solution, please?

Well, the game is a bit big now, but the problem is definitely in the file GameBoard.java, and my source is:

It is simply a Space Invaders Game. I have gotten almost everything working but keyboard input. I have it set up now so that the game even plays itself, cuz it doesn't listen to my button presses :)
I really want to add a KeyListener to the JPanel (the GameBoard extends JPanel) so that keyboard input is invisible, but it won't let me - says the GameBoard never has focus and just ignores it. So to get any key input to work at all, I temporarily added a TextField to the panel, and added the KeyListener to the TextField. That's part of the problem. And the main problem is that inside the "gameplay" loop, the KeyListener has no effect. I tried making a new class with a run(), putting the KeyListener in there and calling start() from the GameBoard, but it had the same outcome. Please help! :)

Performance problem when using CAPS LOCK piano input

Dear reader,
I'm very new to Logic and am running into a performance problem when using the CAPS LOCK-piano-keyboard for input of an instrument: when I'm not recording everything is fine and the program instantly responds on my keystrokes, but as soon as I go into record-mode there is sometimes a delay in the response-time (so I press a key and it takes up to half a second longer before the note is actually played).
Is there anything to do about this to improve performance (for example turning of certain features of the application), or should I never use the CAPS LOCK keyboard anyway and go straight for an external MIDI-keyboard?

Does your project have Audio tracks and just how heavy it is, how many tracks? Also, what kind of Software Instrument do you use?

PPC apps (on intel): slow startup, no keyboard input, Excel-Office crashes

It seems, that all apps that are using rosetta don't work properly.
- The startup time is extremely long, some minutes, spinning wheel is visible
- input via keyboard isn't possible
- Office v. X (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) apps are crashing at startup
A test with the Calculator.app switched to open with rosetta showed also this symptoms (no keyboard input possible)
Curiously all this happens *only with my account*. So first I thought it is a problem of the preferences or fonts. But deletion or substitution from backup does not succeed. Also I did the tip sudo "update_prebinding -root / -force" but it didn't help.
I mad up a fresh account and compared all the files in the ~user/Library path, if there is a file missing in the brocken account. But didn't found some.
Is there anywhere a file outside the ~user/library path, which has user dependend informations (for rosetta)?

In /Library/Caches I found the following files and trashed them. Now all PowerPC application incl. Office v. X are working again. Huh!

Keyboard Input Output Problems on Mac OS X

Hey guys,
I'm at college studying Java, however my teacher and the rest of the class all use the Kawa IDE, I've been using Project Builder, provided with Mac OS X. Our tutor gave us a class made up of various methods which the college designed to handle keyboard Input and Output, however when I import it I get unpredictable results. I seem to need to press space bar after I input anything, as it doesn't recognise "Return" without it. Any ideas ??

Firefox not responding to keyboard input

I'm having issues with Firefox temporarily no longer responding to keyboard input.
I have two machines, both running Windows 7. On my laptop, I never have any issues but on my desktop, I find that Firefox sometimes blocks keyboard input. It will allow me to enter one character in any text field, and no more. Any further input is ignored. This applies to the address bar, the search box and any text fields in the displayed web page, in any tab. All keyboard navigation seems to also be ignored.
I've tried Reset Firefox and Safe Mode, they don't appear to change anything. I've also tried uninstalling Synergy and changing from my regular English-International keyboard layout to US English, but this still seems to occur. I am also running Workrave which can interrupt keyboard input, but since I can add 1 character, I suspect that Workrave is not the problem.
Sometimes it can seemingly be unblocked by pressing Start+F9, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, restarting firefox or opening a new tab, but this seems to only be a temporary solution, the problem soon reoccurs. This bug has been present for some time, I first noticed it in v28 (although it may be even older), I am currently using v31.
One thing I've noticed is that it never occurs until after my screen has been locked at least once.
The trouble-shooting information attached will not be entirely accurate because I'm using my laptop to type this - Firefox is not accepting keyboard input right now on my desktop! However, the two environments are similar.

Some have reported that pressing F9 and the Windows key simultaneously one or more times has worked to fix issues with the keyboard not working.

Is there a way of using keyboard input in Edge? For example when you press the space-bar it will open a url. This is probaly done though programing.

Shift/Command and Alt/Control have there own separate event routines.
Example

So if you only wanted the event to fire when the Shift key is pressed, then

If you wanted to combine the Shift key + Space Bar to trigger the event, then resort to logical operators. In this case you want to 'combine' key strokes, then the logical operator would be a double &&, and demonstrated below.

Keyboard input changed to wrong language

I'm using a dual g5 desktop running tiger 10.4.4. This morning all keyboard input is in the wrong language. It's greek or one of the symbol fonts. According to the setings in the international panel everything should be set to US English, roman script. I know that CMD+space used to toggle between input choices but that now brings up Spotlight. Is another key combination that toggles the languages? Other settings to check? It's interesting that the input menu tab of the international pane still says use CMD+space to toggle inputs, but that no longer works.

According to the setings in the international panel
everything should be set to US English, roman
script.
The setting that matters is system preferences/international/input menu (not languages). Also make sure you have the box checked for "show input menu in finder," so you can see what keyboard layout is active in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder.

Keyboard input bug

Does anyone else find that Keynote 09 sometimes stops responding to all keyboard input after a few minutes of running? And if so, is there a way to fix it?

Keyboard input error

I'm having difficulty with my keyboard input.
d types out d=.
f types out 0
k types out k1
l types out l2=
; types out ;/3
delete works mostly, but sometimes types an f
caps lock also comes on by itself and also acts as return
I checked the language settings and they are all fine.
I checked SMART diagnostics, Repair Disk, Repair Disk Permissions and performed a cache cleaning.
I just updated to 10.4.9. Was running 10.4.7 and every time I tried to update the verification failed or an error was found. After running the diagnostics the update downloaded and installed successfully.
Is this something that might be able to be fixed? Or is getting a new keyboard the only option?
Any help would be appreciated.

I would certainly try another keyboard if at all possible -- could save you lots of time trying to find a potentially non-existent software issue.

Keyboard input errors

I have lost all reliable keyboard input to my G4 powerbook running on OSX 10.4. I have been able to run Tech Tool, Disk Repair and Repair Permissions. I don't have another users account and without the necessary input, I cannot sign-in as another user.
In all areas where text can be typed in, Text Edit, Apple Works, Authentication etc., if I get anything it is not close to the keystroke.
I show over 37gb available on a 80gb hard drive.

Hi, Melvin. If your keyboard is typing a lot of numerals instead of letters, press the Num Lock key (F6) to turn off Num Lock.
If that's not the problem, connect a USB keyboard to the Powerbook and see whether it misbehaves in the same way. If it does, there's a software glitch behind the problem. To confirm that, boot to a CD or DVD. If the problem disappears, software on your hard drive is definitely at fault. In that case, while booted to the CD, run the Repair Disk and Repair Permissions functions of Disk Utility to square things away on the internal HD. Failing that, an Archive and Install of OS X should put things right.
If a USB keyboard behaves properly when connected, your built-in keyboard or its connection to the main logic board has gone bad. To determine which it is, release the keyboard, flip it over onto your Tibook's wrist rests, and gently disconnect its ribbon cable from the logic board, then reconnect it. Put the keyboard back and test again. If the problem persists, replace the keyboard.

I m a GT72 2QE 629TR owner and GT72 has a SERIOUS keyboard input lag problem..maybe all of you guys cant feel that in fps or 3rd person games as i do but i have been playing STREET FIGHTER 4 for 5 years...in which game inputs are very sensetive..! I cant do neither combos nor plinking with this stupid keyboard.. but i can do that stuff easily in any keyboard even on my wireless logitech keyboard but in this steelseries keyboard CANT because of the serious lag..some combos need one frame link means 1/60 seconds bla bla..
but i realized after uninstalled steelseries keyboard utility lag reduced a little bit but still there is some..I dont know which cause to this problem..
Another request keyboard lights which depends on steelseries utility means we cant turn it on or off the light from keyboard shortcuts unless we are in windows...This is stupid...! it should be also BIOS controlled..In a darker environment i cant see the buttons in windows LOG ON screen to enter the password why? because of this utility works after logged in so the lights dont work which is very STUPID again.. In my other 600$ Lenovo laptop you can control the light from the FN+SPACE keys even you are in bios or dos environment...because its controlled from the bios itself..
Another bug the dot(point) button right next to the 0(zero) button in numerical buttons area...it shows POINT on that button but when you press it comma comes on screen ? shhhh..which one is true comma or dot

The keyboard should light up in red during POST. At least I saw GS70 has red keyboard light when it is turning on and the color turns to its setting while SSE is on.

You probably should not be using a keyboard bluetooth profile for a scanner, I am not a developer for apple so do not know the location for you to find out the correct profile you should be using for an input device that is not a keyboard. Sorry,
