Spam e-mails

Since being moved to BT Mail I getting loads of spam e-mails from Currys, Tesco, Argos and Primark every day. Anyone else?

For the iPod and iPad, there's an edit facility, which allows you to move emails to another folder. Moving emails to the spam folder and then deleting them seems to produce results (eventually).
In my case:-
The iPod has a spam folder, as it's set to imap.
The iPad doesn't show a spam folder, because it's set up as pop3, and therefore doesn't duplicate the BT Mail folders.
If I were to change it to imap, then the spam folder would be shown.

It was an email about a video I posted on youtube. It said "the video you posted under your account has been approved and posted. Click link to see the video" but I didn't post any video so I clicked the link on my phone and it took me to a page that was not youtube so I immediately closed the window went to my settings and deleted cookies and history. There really is no spam filter on iPad. One usually sets spam filters on the main mail server on either Mac or PC. For example, my Yahoo spam does not appear in my Yahoo mailbox on iPad. It does appear in the spam folder on Yahoo mail on my PC.

Add your contacts to VIP folder. Quickly go through regular folder and if you see anything that you need move to VIP as well, delete the rest. Using VIP for contacts allows to concentrate on important. I have been using Hotmail like that, they allow to use inbox for contacts only and everything else goes to junk. Takes me one minute a day to purge through 50 emails, pull two or three that I need and delete the rest.

By the way, some non-delivery receipts (NDRs) are themselves spam messages with malicious attachments designed to infect your computer, so be cautious about opening any of those.

Spam e-mails from my BT Address

Someone has sent out a Spam e-mails from my btopenworld e-mail address asking for money.
One of these e-mails bounced back to me. This has the full details of its route.
Who should I send it to so it can be traced and the person who sent this stopped ?

There are loads of threads on this forum about this, there is nothing you can do about it, once someone has your e-mail address.

Entourage crashes when trying delete a spam e-mail

MacBookPro, OSX Tiger, I have received a spam e-mail that i cannot delete - when I click on it, or try to grab it with a mouse, Entourage immediately crashes. Rebuilding a database did not help.

Just a thought, it may or may not work, but does Entourage have the ability to close the viewer window of the message? By this I mean the part of the mail pane that the message opens in? When I had troublesome emails in Mail.app if I selected the email with the viewer pane closed I was able to delete it.
Sorry, I don't use Entourage so I don't know if it allows you to close the viewer pane but worth a try if it does.

I Have 7 E-Mail Accounts & there all getting Spam E-Mail is there a Mac Software where I can Stop getting Spam E-Mails? I Have seen a Software to be able to Stop Spam E-Mail but it's for a PC Microsoft Computer http://www.mailwasher.net/ Do they make something like that for an Apple iMac Computer to? or it has not come out on The Apple iMac Computer side yet?

Does marking spam in Mail update iCloud filters

Does marking spam in Mail on the desktop update iCloud filters ? If not, it should. Otherwise you have to got to iCloud, log in and report it. What a waste of time?

There are multiple threads on this issue again in last 2-3 weeks. Spammers are targeting Icloud from Europe and other times zones. If Icloud has a spam filter, no it does not "learn". I have stopped reporting spam to Icloud because it seems to make absolutely no difference. I feel as if Apple does not really care about Icloud now that it is free (unlike Mobileme which was a paid service). There was virtually no Spam on the Mobileme, which cost 100 dollars annually. Icloud is free, so there is no incentive to have a working spam filter, I guess.

How can I block a spam mail sender when that spamer uses a different e-mail address everytime! I have set up a rule with the spamers name (which does not change) and setting the rule to "is equal to" but it is not working.

Just use the free Yahoo app.
i Have a yahoo and Gmail and use separate apps for this reason.

A Ton of Spam / Junk Mail - How to Make it Stop?!

I'd say over the last two months I'm receiving about 3-4 dozen "spam" messages. When it started I had not done anything particularly "different" on my iMac that would have triggered this. I noticed all the spams are sent from various "mac.com" accounts and have a similar "look" (as if they created by the same designer but always different messages) if that is any help. For a while I "bounced" the messages (in the past this seems to have ceased such spam) but no dice. Last weekend I upgraded from 10.6.8 to Mavericks and again, absolutely no difference. In fact, I do not even see a "bounce" option in the Mavericks mail program anymore. My email has always identified these as spam but they are still floating around in my inbox "marked" as spam while some go into the Spam -- either isn't the issue; my issue is stopping the mail in the first place!

When spam goes way up or way down a lot of times it is not directly about anything you personally did. Unfortunately that also means that you usually can't initiate any specific action that will stop it. Some examples for instance. I got a SPAM e-mail that when I mark as spam, it immediatly unmarks itself. I have turned off all addons and run in safe mode and this still happens.

First I am pissed that I had to make an account to report a bug.
Where should I send a copy of this e-mail so you can fix this bug that prevents spam from being marked as spam.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I went through all of my address books, and this e-mail address was not in any of them.

Spam/Junk mail elimination

Recently the junk/spam mail has increased tremendously. I've bounced, applied rules and it doesn't seem to help.   I have Mail Version 4.5 (1084). I really don't want to continue to apply rules daily. Any ideas?

You can relieve much of the pressure by following Apple's well written guide ...
Mail > Help > solving problems.   It takes time and patience to go through it all but your reward will be seen in a much improved Mail.
One thing I noticed ... "I've bounced".   This is generally thought of as an unwise practice.   Most spam is sent out more in hope than expectation.   The spammer hopes there will be someone to con at your address and the very act of bouncing mail clearly indicates the address is live.   Just ignore and delete.
