Speaker clicks before a sound file is played

When my speakers haven't emitted any sound for a while and, say an AIM alert sound plays, my MBP's left speaker will "click" or "snap" before the sound plays. I suspect the speaker isn't physically capable of vibrating instantly from rest. Is this a design imperfection or a hardware malfunction?

Try plugging in a pair of ear buds or headphones and see if it still does it. If it does, login to another User account and see if it still does it there. If it does, you have a problem in your sound circuit and the logic board may need to be replaced.

  • Flash CC  sound files not playing

    I have a mp3 file on a layer.   I stop the fla file abuout 20 seconds in, but when I click on the play button to continue, the mp3 files starts from the beginning, not from the current location.  What do I need to change so the sound file will play from its current location?  Thank you.

    Rob,  I tried your recommendation,  it still will not sync.   I'm in the middle of my fla, and when I start from (ex. keyframe 500), the mp3 plays from the beginning (keyframe 1).  This issue is intermittent.  Some fla I have no issue, then others this problem happens.I end up using an older version of flash to do most of the work, then I complete the finishing parts in Flash CC.

  • Opping short Tone before a sound beginns to play -big problem

    Hello,
    i have 3 new macbookpro and all have this same problem.
    I read something about that the soundcard goes to a sleep mode...
    The Effect is, when a new mail comes and before the Sound begins to play, comes from the speakers a short popping/crack...
    I try to use this small Software "noisy", that makes that the soundcard doesnt goes more to the sleep mode, but it needs on my 2,6 mbp 15% of my cpu!
    I hope for help.

    The sound card does not go to sleep (unless you put the computer to sleep and then the whole system is affected). If I am not sitting at my computer it will check mail normally (according to my settings) and announce the arrival of any messages.

  • Sound files not playing from inDesign SWF file

    Using Dropbox file transfer, I'm sending a colleague an inDesign project  as a SWF file - a flip book with audio. The files in Dropbox are the SWF Movie files, the HTML and the Resources folder. My colleague is trying upload these to his website. I presumed the sound files would go up via my colleagues FTP and Flash player would link to them. The sound files are functioning. Can anyone outline the procedure one should follow to get Flash to engage with this?   Is there a better locale fo this thread?

    That's what I thought too, but all files are there.  I used to have numerous files (6-8) in a dropbox folder with all parts: cptx, htm, swf, js and the html would play fine by just clicking on the link.  Once it started not working I made individual folders with each part of the file and included them into each seperate folder.  Still not loading/opening.  This is happening to everyone I send the link to.  I've tried opening it in different browsers too.
    Here is a link if anyone wants to see what happens:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/460vq2nqu4dbwf1/courseconnect_training_2013.htm
    Here is how I am including each part of the file in the actual folder:

  • Why are certain sound files not playing correctly in iTunes?

    I have had iTunes for years and have never had prolonged or unsolvable problems with anything playback related until now. I recently acquired some music, and it plays perfectly when I use WMP. When I added it my iTunes library, however, the audio is compressed during playback and there is a lot of skipping and blips going on in every song. It still plays perfectly in WMP, but not matter what I do the same thing happens in iTunes.
    For reference, here is what the original audio songs like
    http://picosong.com/cNPn
    And here is what it sounds like in iTunes
    http://picosong.com/cNPe

    I have a similar problem. When I try to play TV episodes that were downloaded (in .m4v format) using iTunes, QuickTime (7.0.4) will play video without audio, and when I press "stop", QuickTime locks up!
    My system used to play these files PERFECTLY, until I downloaded some shareware video format conversion programs (that didn't work, anyway). I believe one of them installed a shared DLL or CODEC or something that is conflicting with QuickTime. I'VE UNINSTALLED AND REINSTALLED QUICKTIME AND ITUNES COUNTLESS TIMES, trying to follow different people's advice, mostly from posts on this site, but nothing helps!!
    The thing we have in common is that it sounds like you also have other video software that could have conflicting CODECs or shared DLLs. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO TRACK THIS PROBLEM DOWN??
    And why doesn't Apple make a CLEAN uninstaller and a COMPLETE installer? People shouldn't have to do the manual registry editing and file deletions that other people are recommending!!!!!

  • Sound file plays automatically...

    Hello,
    Can someone please direct me on how to prevent my sound file from playing when the page it's on is loaded?
    I dragged a sound file from my finder into my keynote. It appears as an icon that looks like a speaker. It's fully functional, everything works great. However, the problem is that the audio file starts playing the moment the page is loaded.
    I want to be able to play the audio file manually after I have verbally presented the page.
    Help would be incredibly appreciated. This is my first presentation, ever, with Keynote. It's the only kink I've experienced, so far.
    Thank you so much,
    YahYah

    Select your first audio clip you want to play and then in the Inspector>Build Tab (third tab from left) under Build In>Effect, select Start Audio. Click the button on the bottom that says More Options make sure the Start Build is set to On Click (this is the default, so you shouldn't have to worry about that). Now your first clip won't start until you click.
    Then to make sure that they don't all play at once. Select your first clip again and add a Build Out that happens Automatically after build 1 to Stop Audio and set the delay so that it is the length of the clip. +This is where things can get a little tricky as you can only add a delay of 60 seconds. So if you clip is 90 seconds, you need to add a transparent shape or empty text box that you can add builds and actions to to makeup the extra 30 seconds.+ Finally select your second clip and add a Build In to Start Audio Automatically with build 2.
    If you have multiple audio clips that you want to play back to back, it may be easiest to importing them into GarageBand and making one audio clip out of them.
    Hope this helps

  • Help playing a sound file please...

    i am trying to play a sound file everytime a button is clicked. the sound will play the first time the button is clicked but wont play after that. how can i get the sound file to play everytime the button is clicked?? here's how i play the sound file...
    InputStream in = new FileInputStream(sound.wav);
    AudioStream as = new AudioStream(in);
    // in the button action event...
    AudioPlayer.player.start(as);
    i tried adding this line... AudioPlayer.player.stop(as);...before the...AudioPlayer.player.start(as); -- the sound file still only plays once
    any help appreciated...thanks

    Hi there,
    Is there a class AudioPlayer in the API or is it yours. Anyway, your class must implement AudioClip interface. Then call yourClass.play(as); You dont need to stop, each time you call play(), it restarts. Try and let me know.
    cheers

  • Interactive play sound file.vi crashs labview

    While playing with a *.wav file to perform an FFT on the data, I tried running this VI. Labview then crashes. No error.

    Which version of LabVIEW are you using?  I'm using LabVIEW 2011 SP1, and I ran the "Interactive Play Sound File.vi" from the example finder and the VI worked for me.
    Are you just trying to play a sound file in your own VI?  If so, the DLL library call from the example could be causing the crash.  It could also be that your program isn't crashing, but just terminating before your sound file has a chance to play.
    There is an easier way to play a sound file, just use the "Play Sound File.vi".  You may also need to use the "Sound Output Wait.vi" to prevent your LabVIEW program from terminating before the sound has a chance to play.  I've attached a picture of the setup I'm refering to.

  • Actionscript 3 coding to return to home page 10 secs after sound file stops

    Hi..
    I am having some problems with my Flash Project.
    At the moment the whole thing works but I now need it to do something I have never done before.
    Basically, the user will select a page and the project will then run, via actionscript 3.0 coding, a sound file and display the appropriate page within the timeline.
    I have a back button that once tapped will return to home page.
    I now need it to return to home page 10 secs after the sound file has stopped as well as keep the function of the back button.
    What do I do?
    I can provide the coding I am using if required.
    I am currently using Flash Pro CS6 on a Win 7 Pro PC.
    Thank you for your help
    Michael

    Thank you Ned for your help, however as I do not really understand how the settimeout function works, it has now made me more confused.
    I think I have nutted out what I am trying to say.
    Essentially my project is like a web page if you like.
    I have six individual pages which all display a picture and play a sound file.
    What I would like to do is after each page is selected it will play a sound file, I then want it to wait 10 secs and then go back to a
    home page (which will be frame 1) or if they are impatient there is a back button that directs you back to frame 1.
    I have included the code used by the back button to manually get back to frame 1 either whilst the sound file is playing or after it has finished
    back_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_1);
      function fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_1(event:MouseEvent):void
        gotoAndStop(1);
    /* Click to Stop All Sounds
    Clicking on the symbol instance stops all sounds currently playing.
    back_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, fl_ClickToStopAllSounds);
    function fl_ClickToStopAllSounds(event:MouseEvent):void
        SoundMixer.stopAll();
    I just want it to return to home page automatically once the sound file is finished and there is nil input from the touch screen. (This will simulate someone walking away midway and leaving it with 2nd  web page showing.)
    I hope this makes sense.
    Thank you

  • Inserting Sound FIles in Java

    Hello,
    I am about to finish College and I am in this Java class. I am trying to get a sound file to play on my Applet(htm) and I can't figure out how. If you have the answers, please give me a dummy list(A step by step list of what to do). I am new to Java and I would very much like to add the sound dynamic to my project. PLEASE HELP....email me at [email protected]
    Thanks a million

    You would think at college they would teach you some problem solving skills.
    There is a tutorial on Sound at:

    This question has been asked before in the forum so you could also learn how to use the search facility of the forum.

  • Benefits to collecting sound files?

    Is there a benefit in collecting sound files in Soundtrack Pro? I'm running STP 1.3 and have lots of sound files and the timeline is moving very slow and jumpy. if i save the project and click the "collect sound files" button, will this help remedy the problem?

    Can you give us some info about the files are you using? (format, ones you recorded?, looping, sample rate, bit depth, etc)
    If you have looping files in your timeline, they will play back in the multitrack project's key and tempo - the application does work to change the pitch and speed to get this effect.
    When you open those files in the waveform editor they play back as they were originally recorded (native tempo and speed), which will probably sound different.
    The multitrack will also convert the sample rate of those files to match the project, but I wouldn't expect that change to be very obvious.
    The other things I can think of have to do with effects - you might have track based effects in your multitrack that cause the change in sound. Press the effects button for the track '*' to see if any are being applied. This could be happening on the track where the audio file lives, or in the Busses (via sends) or Outputs.
    Hope that helps!

  • Sound file causes temporary freezing

    Hi all,
    I am new to labview and I've faced a problem during running my code.
    I have a code that calls subvi which plays a sound file of type .wav using Play Sound File VI and Sound Output Clear VI. The sound file should play when some events occure, the problem is that the application is freez a little bit when it is time to play that sound. So I think I should load that subvi or maybe the sound file whenevr the application start.
    Do you have any suggestion for reloading that subvi or sound file and what I should use.
    It realy affects the performance of my application.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thank you in advance

    Many thanks for your reply
    Okay
    Let me just make that clear
    I am reading signals and wherver the value of the signal reach the limit ( Max Value ) I should alram the user by sound
    so the subvi on the red circle should be called
    and here its code
    So what do you think?

  • Simple Sound Files

    I bought my first Macintosh in 1985 and have been using them ever since. In those early days, one just plugged in a microphone to the Mac and recorded a voice sound file. The sound file was played back in a program called Simple Sound. It was all very simple... not so today.
    I have a sound file my grand daughter made for me fifteen years ago. It simply says "I love you PaPa". This sound file has been in my Startup Items for over a decade and every time I start up my Mac I hear it. Since using iTunes from the first version, the sound file would play in iTunes every time the Mac started, until now that I have iTunes 6. The sound will no longer play in iTunes. I can't import it. The only way the sound will play is if I select it in the Finder and a "Play Sound" button appears. It seems to play from the Finder.
    So, what hoops do I have to jump through to hear the sound of my grand daughters love for me whenever I turn on my Mac?

    Kevin--
    Try Sound Studio. If that doesn't work, copy this AppleScript into the Script Editor application in the "AppleScript" folder from your "Applicatons" folder:on open fileList
    repeat with theItem in fileList
    tell application "Finder"
    set theName to the name of theItem
    set theCreator to creator type of theItem
    set theType to file type of theItem
    display dialog "File: " & theName & return & "Creator: " & theCreator & return & "Type: " & theType
    end tell
    end repeat
    end openSave it somewhere on your hard drive as an application. Now, drag the sound file onto the application you just made, make a note of what the applet says for the Type and Creator, and post them here.
    best,
