Special case with dataguard

Greetings!
I would like to configure a dataguard standby database with a special primary. I have two servers, both access the same SAN storage and having the spfile (linked from $OH/dbs), redologs, controlfile, datafiles on this SAN. Because of that in the same time only one of the servers is able to mount and run the database. (This is NOT a RAC) And because of this situation it is not a matter which server maintains the instance because it is always the same one.
My Q:
Am I able to configure the DataGuard to try to dynamically connect to both servers and use that one which maintaints the instance?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Miklos

First of all this is not a Dataguard configuration, this is just an Active/passive configuration working with the same data. In case of a failure event at the datafiles, this topology won't protect you.
Dataguard is a stand by database at a 'remote' site which maintains its own set of datafiles, controlfiles and redologfiles, which is transactionally updated by means of an archivelog stream coming from the primary database, either physically or logically updated. In case of failure of the primary database or host or storage, you can switch to the stand by so the operation continues with minimum down time.
In the topology you are planning, in the event of failure from the database at the datafile level there will be no way to recover but by means of a restore/recover operation. If dataguard is a mean to maintain a continuous business operation, this approach won't provide but redundancy at the node level, and it is rather a Cold Failover Cluster.

  • What does the trim() method of the String class do in special cases?

Looking here ( String (Java Platform SE 7 ) ), I understand that the trim() method of the String class "returns a copy of the string, with leading and trailing whitespace omitted", but I don't understand what the last special case involving Unicode characters is exactly.
Looking here ( List of Unicode characters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ), I see that U+0020 is a space character, and I also see the characters that follow the space character (such as the exclamation mark character).
So, I decided to write a small code sample to try and replicate the behaviour that I quoted (from the API documentation of the trim method) in the multi-line comment of this same code sample. Here is the code sample.:
    public class TrimTester {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
             * "Otherwise, let k be the index of the first character in the string whose code
             * is greater than '\u0020', and let m be the index of the last character in the
             * string whose code is greater than '\u0020'. A new String object is created,
             * representing the substring of this string that begins with the character at
             * index k and ends with the character at index m-that is, the result of
             * this.substring(k, m+1)."
            String str = "aa!Hello$bb";
            System.out.println(str.trim());
However, what is printed is "aa!Hello$bb" (without the quotes) instead of "!Hello$" (without the quotes).
Any input to help me better understand what is going on would be greatly appreciated!

That's not what I was thinking; I was thinking about the special case where the are characters in the String whose Unicode codes are greater than \u0020.
In other words, I was trying to trigger what the following quote talks about.:
Otherwise, let k be the index of the first character in the string whose code is greater than '\u0020', and let m be the index of the last character in the string whose code is greater than '\u0020'. A new String object is created, representing the substring of this string that begins with the character at index k and ends with the character at index m-that is, the result of this.substring(k, m+1).
Basically, shouldn't the String returned be the String that is returned by the String class' substring(3,9+1) method (because the '!' and '$' characters have a Unicode code greater than \u0020)?
It seems to not be the case, but why?

  • Does RMAN Work With DataGuard And Restore Points?

I only have a basic experience of RMAN on a training course and no experience of Data Guard.
We have an 11g set up where DataGuard is keeping production and DR in sync.
On a release weekend we want a rollback strategy in case any of the config goes wrong.
When the database was small and before we were using DataGuard this just consisted of datapump.
Now the database is 120GB that isn't an option in our timescale.
Can I set a restore point and use archive logs to keep track so that if there is a problem and we need to roll back we can just rollback to the restore point?
Would this work or would it cause problems with DataGuard?
Is rolling back to a restore point a relatively fast operation?

DataGuard works with Restore Points.  The use case is when
    a. You created a Restore Point for the Primary and Standby
    b. You upgraded the Primary
    c. You find a fault with the Primary
    d. You revert both the Primary and the Standby to the Restore Point and resume DataGuard.

  • Sql Loader record delimiter (SPECIAL CASE)

I have a special case where I want to use <EOR>\n as record delimiter, but OWB won't load any data with that. If I only use <EOR> it does load data but throws warning (1 Row not loaded because all fields were null), TRAILING NULLCOLS option is enabled. I appreciate the help.

    Hi David,
First of all, I appreciate your reply. I did do what you recommended (OMBALTER FLAT_FILE 'ABCD' SET PROPERTIES (RECORD_DELIMITER) VALUES ('<EOR>\n'). I didn't open the FF, but I did sync the FF and deployed the mapping unfortunately it didn't work "File processing option string: "STR X'3C454F523E5C6E'" (basically HEX values)
    Any more suggestions?
The reason I want to use this record delimiter is:
    LINE1 = AB|CD|EF|GH|IJKL<EOR>$ note:($ is \n)(set list)
    LINE2 = AB|CD|EF|GH|IJKL$
    MNOPQRSTUVWX$
    YZ<EOR>$
For the time being I fixed the problem by putting all columns(ROW EACH) in a single row and just use '\n' as RD, but I would like to do it by using ('<EOR>\n') as RD as well.
    I appreciate the help.

  • Suggested concept for Grid Control with DataGuard solution

    Hello,
I want a Disaster Recovery solution for OEM Grid Control with DataGuard but with only one OMS running. (11.1)
I have figured out the following.
Installation OEM Grid control om host A. Repository is created on Host A. Connection to database is done thru servicename DBGRDSRV on Host A
Installation OEM Grid control om host B. Repository is created on Host B. Connection to database is done thru servicename DBGRDSRV on Host B
I stop OMS on host B and I drop the database on Host B
    Then....
I create a Dataguard configuration for DBGRDSRV, the prim database run on Host A en secondary on Host B
In case of a failure i switch the database. On host B i will have DBGRDSRV as the primary database
I start OMS on host B and the agent.
In case the failure is resolved i switch back eveything
    Will thos concept work?
Do i get some troubles with the emkey, and if so, does anybody has a solution for this?
    Any help is appreciated

  • Where can I find an iPad mini case with a strap?

I am looking for a moderate-to-extremely durable case for iPad mini that can have a shoulder strap attachment. I am looking to use it as a communication device for  student with severe special needs, who would need to have access to it at all times. Some sort of protection for back and screen a must, but I will look at all options.

    Louis,
There are not many cases available at this time with a strap for iPad mini.  I am an Augmentative Communication Consultant and am very familiar with your quest.  Right now, your best option may be a Griffin Survivor, GumDrop Drop Tech or Otterbox Defender within a ChatBag.  I have a very large Pinterest site dedicated to AAC and Assisitive Technology and Special Education with a large focus on iOS apps and accessories as well as AAC supports.  You can find it here.  www.pinterest.com/lasenders  The options I just mentioned are on my board of iPad mini cases. The only other case with a strap thus far is the Sherpa Carry for iPad mini, but that is not super rugged.
    Hope that helps.

  • Streams with DataGuard design advice

I have two 10gR2 RAC installs with DataGuard physical copy mode. We will call the main system A and the standby system B. I have a third 10gR2 RAC install with two-way Streams Replication to system A. We will call this RAC system C.
When I have a failure scenario with system A, planned or unplanned, I need for system C's Streams Replication to start replicating with system B. When the system A is available again I need for system C to start replicating with system A again.
I am sure this is possible, and I am not the only one that wants to do something like this, but how? What are the pitfals?
Any advice on personal experience with this would be greatly appreciated!

Nice concept and I can only applaud to its ambitions.
+"I am sure this is possible, and I am not the only one that wants to do something like this".+
I would like to share your confidence, but i am afraid there are so many pitfalls than success will depends on how much pain you and you hierarchy can cope with.
    Some thoughts:
Unless your dataguard is Synchronous, at the very moment where A fails, there will be missing TXN in C,
which may have been applied in B as Streams is quite fast. This alone tells us that a forced switch cannot
be guarantee consistent : You will have errors and some nasty one such as sequence numbers consumed
on A (or B) just before the crash, already replicated to B (or A)but never shipped to C. Upon awake C will
re-emit values already known on B (dup key on index?)
I hope you don't sell airplane ticket for in such a case you can sell some seats twice.
Does C have to appear as another A or is it allowed to have a different DB_NAME? (How will you set C in B?
is C another A which retakes A name or is C a distinct source).if C must have the same DB_NAME, the global
name must be the same. Your TNS construction will be have to cope with 2 identical TNS entry in your network
referring to 2 different hosts and DB. Possible with cascade lines at (ADDRESSES= ... , but to be tested.
If C is another A then C must have the same DB_name as LCR do have their origin DB name into them.
If C has a distinct name from A it must have its on apply process, not a problem it will be idle while A is alive,
but also a capture that capture nothing while A is alive, for it is Capture site who is supposed to send the ticks
to advance counters on B. Since C will be down in normal time, you will have to emulate this feature periodically
reseting the first_scn manually for this standby capture - you can jump archives providing you jump to another
archive with built in data dictionary - or accept to create a capture on B only when C wakes up. The best would
be to consider C as a copy of B (multi-master DML+DDL?) and re-instantiate tables without transferring any data
the apply and capture on C and B to whatever SCN is found to be max on both sites when C wakes up.
All this is possible, with lot of fun and hard work.
As of the return of the Jedi, I mean A after its recovered from its crash you did not tell us if the re-sync C-->A
is hot or cold. Cold is trivial but If it is hot, it can be done configuring a downstream capture from C to A with
the init SCN set to around the crash and re-load all archives produced on C. But then C and A must have a different
DB_name or maybe setting a different TAG will be enough, to be tested. Also there will be the critical switch
the multi-master replication C<-->B to A<-->B. This alone is a master piece of re-sync tables.
In all cases, I wish you a happy and great project and eager to hear about it.
Last, there was a PDF describing how to deal with dataguard switch with a DB using streams, but it is of little help,
for it assumes that the switch is gentle : no SCN missing. did not found it but maybe somebody can point a link to it.

  • Apple now include case with iPod nano...

Just thought id let you guys know, that Apple have began to include a case with the iPod nano. Its the same slip case as the one with the 5G iPod.

Would you accept someone selling you a watch telling you, after the fact, mind you, that you should buy a cover for watch
Yes! I would accept the watch. Its not the watch makers fault that the watch scratches, and its certain users human nature to want to protect it.
Are you saying that all products should be scratch resistant?

EDIT: Also, Apple did offer a case before a single person got the nano. Jobs himself showed off the nano Tubes at the special event on 9/7. Apple offered a solution to those who thought it necessary.

  • Special case of pricing and GL

    Dear all,
We have a special case from our user. We are selling our product to an outlet with an invoice of Rs 73 per liter of milk. If I want that Rs 72 should hit one GL and Rs 1 goes into a new special GL , what procedure is required? Need to know the changes in SPRO

Initially you told 1rs now asking as 6Rs---seek the clarity from client.
why you made this thread as answered???????????
Apart from maintaining separate customer pricing---
1.Make ZCPP as 78Rs by condition records--sub total as XWORKD
2.ask your client how they are retrieving 6 Rs as distributor margin(accordingly maintain the percentage as condition records for ZTMV and give step number of ZCPP in from column)(you also try as statistical)(sub total as XWORKE)
3.now maintain ZLOC with calculation formulae as 12.
4.maintain ZKSU surcharge as suggested by your client.
Note: we cannot give you step wise completely--rather you need to try on your end--any problems let us know.

  • IPod nano case with protective screen, available in store (looking for one)

Hey, im looking forward to buy my first mp3 player, and its gonna be a white iPod Nano. I read alot of reviews, and some people have problems with scratches, and their screen cracking. I am really concerned about the screen cracking.
Is there a good quality protective case with a screen protector, (maybe a wheel protecter, not noccesary though), that is sold at major stores (wal-mart, circuit city, bestbuy, etc)? Price can be an issue too, so not too expensive. Thanks in advance!

  • Will Tablet case with combined keyboard work on Lenovo Ideapad A1 07

    Hi All,
Sorry if anyone has asked before but couldn't find specific.
My wife has recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad A1 07 for its size,  a friend who has a small android tablet also recommended to her, to buy a tablet case with combined keyboard with USB connection from amazon. When received the connection obviously doesn't fit, so I started searching around web for an adapter for it, but I’m seeing conflicting info that the ideapad either does/doesn't support USB data transfer connection point, so before buying an adapter what is correct!.
Can anyone throw some light onto whether Lenovo will update the firmware to be able to use USB at any time or has anyone have a work around. Any help and advice to get this keyboard working would be grateful as the tablet is a great little device for her.
    Gazzataf

If you are patient, go through the reviews of a specific USB keyboard that was suggested as an addition for Lenovo A1 by Amazon: You will see that even though users have tried different cables and adapters, no A1 user has managed to get this working on his tablet.
This issue may be solved by a future upgrade (if any), which will enable the USB OTG feature of the microUSB port of the A1 tablet. Until then, nothing can be done in order to have any USB device identified and working with A1. I really hope that I make a mistake here and that someone will come up with a working soultion for this issue ...

  • Create case with vi:s from folder

I want to create a case with n number of sub vi inside. I have a folder containing n number of vi:s, they all have the same inputs and outputs.
My problem is that I dont know how many there is and I want to be able to open a specific one depending on its name in a string, send in some parameters and get some back.
Is there any way to create a case on startupp that has as many frames as there are vi:s in the folder, give the case frame the name of the vi, add the vi icon in the case and connect the wires to it. Or is this possible to do in an outher way? Calling it some way?

Just want to clarify before people start calling NI about it. There is no such thing as a scripting license. This product does not exist, so let's all please stop talking about this imaginary license. Scripting is an internal feature of LabVIEW reserved for internal use only and NI does not want people to use it. NI makes it difficult for anyone to use and access. This is done on purpose. The only way to get access to it is to hack LabVIEW. Some have managed to do this and have posted their findings and experiments on LAVA. Using scripting techniques is totally unsupported by NI.
On the other hand, it's a great tool for doing some amazingly cool stuff in LabVIEW.

When I install this programs I can manage from OEM other computer on what install database. After I try create standby database for my database from OEM but it answered me "Cannot determine primary host architecture". What I need do for fix this problem? I can create standby database for base on one computer but I can't create standby for database on other computer.

Can you be more specific ?

  • Best Cooling Tower Case With Handles

I'm trying to build a computer that will run Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and other programs.
From reading on these forums, it looks like the best options for me right now are:
    i7 2600K
    Asus Sabertooth P67
    GTX 570
    16GB Patriot 1333MHz RAM
    Windows 7 Home
500GB hard drive for the system and programs and page file
Four 1TB drives in two RAID-0 configuations
I'm probably not going to overclock right now because I don't want to be so concerned with overheating.  I may try overclocking later.
I got some prices at Fry's, which includes the Corsair 600T Tower Case.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. I read on a forum that a guy was having problems with cooling on the 600T and another person said the 20mm fans are too small, that 30mm are better.
    2. I'm also trying to find a case that has a handle (or handles) so that I can transport it easily back and forth to another location.
I've read here to stay away from the small or mini towers because they don't cool well enough and that makes sense to me.
I only saw one at Fry's that had a handle, but I can't remember the name of it.
I like the Mac Pro tower style handles.  Good and solid.
Anyone know of a case that is:
    1. Great for cooling the above configuration, and
    2. Has a handle?
Any feedback on the other componenets would be great as well.
Thanks for any help or advice.

    Flyingfish,
I can think of two pretty good possibilities for a luggable (mid or larger) case with a handle, and I'm sure there are others out there as well (Google LAN party):
Thermaltake V5 Black Edition Mid-tower Gaming Case (has nice full handle)
Any mid or full tower case + Sunbeam LAN Party Bag (includes strong straps that go around case to carry any case and keyboard using backpack style straps, shoulder strap, or a handle)
Don't scrimp on cooling, even if you do not plan on overclocking; look for a dual fan heat pipe style that will fit with whatever case you do choose. Good cooling will keep your rendering reliable and will allow for the 2600k to "turbo" (speed itself up) more effectively.
Now, regarding your component list, it looks just great! Don't forget a 850 watt p/s from a solid manufacturer. Also, skip the Corsair 600T; I brought one home I liked the design so well, then returned it when I realized the fans were not up there with the best fans and the typical high-quality replacement fans (Scythe Gentle Typhoon, etc.) do not fit without starting to drill holes, etc.

Macbook Air case with magnets. Will it affect hardware or performance of product?

No, the low power N30 or N35 gauss neodymium magnets in the magnetic flap cases will not affect it.
There is no HD, and the SSD are hard (relatively) to corrupt by magnetic field unless high gauss and at close proximity.
