Specific shape size ?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to create a tutorial for beginners with a bouncing ball. Everything alright so far, except one thing : When it comes to draw the ball shape with the Ellipse tool, everyone has a different circle size, depending on how large they draw it. Is there any way to put specific values to create the circle ? (Like in Illustrator where one simple click with the Shape tool brings the value window). It would be very interesting to find a way. Thanks for your time

Draw your shape with the Ellipse tool then select the shape layer and press the U key twice to reveal the shape layer properties. Manually type in the size of the eclipse and then reset the Position property of Ellipse 1. That will take you from this:
To this:
And give you a circle, perfectly centre on the anchor point of a specific size that you can then animate.
The other option would be to use a solid with a mask for your ball. Simply create a 200 X 200 solid then select the Elipse tool and the Solid layer, making sure the tool is set to mask and double click the Ellipse tool.
If you are creating tutorials about using shapes and you want to be taken seriously you should first type Shape Layers in the Search Help field at the top right corner of AE and follow the links to read up. About 90% of the YouTube tutorials on After Effects demonstrate inefficient and ineffective workflows and at about half of them teach techniques that develop very bad habits. Please study up.

  • Cropping a layer at specific shape

I have a layer in which I want to crop it-after the cropping I want this layer to have a specific shape-the shape I intend to use is not from the custom shapes list.
Actually it is a type layer.
So I want to use this type layer and with it crop another shape layer, so the latter, takes the form of the later.
How am I going to achieve the above-I tried with a clipping mask but could not do it.

I do not undertand why you could not do!
First crops are rectanular and the crop tool will crop all layers in a document and change the documents canvas size. Croped text layers are still text layers and the text layer may be latger then canvas size.
Layers can have a shape because of tranparency.  This tranparency may be because of a layer mask orsimply the layer has no pixels in some areas. So a croped text layer would have a shape and you can load that shape as a selection by selecting the layers tranparency and aggit is as a layer mask to an other layer.
You can also more or less crop a single layer without croping all layers and changing the canvas size by targeting  the text layer and selecting what you want with a selection tool.  And adding it to the text layer as a layer mask. or you can rasterzise the text layer invert the selection and clear the pixel you don't want.  With some thought you can make a layer mask you want using a test layer tranparency.
However Photoshop also has masking text tools simply use one the then to create the mask you want!!!!

  • Searching for a specific file size

    Hello,
It's been a while but it seems like XP let me search for specific file sizes - e.g. if I wanted to search for files that were greater than 10GB or if I wanted to search for files less than 20GB.
I can't figure it out in Windows 8.1.
If the answer is possible through standard search and not powershell, I'd prefer the GUI way.
    Thanks

In File Explorer (was Windows Explorer), type the search criteria into the box in the top right of the screen and press Enter.
    Example searches are:
A minimum file size, simply type size:>30,000KB into the Search box and press Enter.
type:=.pdf or type:=.doc will display specific file types.
filename:x will display files using a partial filename. x represents the partial filename you want to search for.
kind:video, kind:music or kind:pictures will find all the videos, music or pictures.
If you just click or tap in the Search box, Search Tools will appear which allows the choosing of a Kind, a Size, Date Modified, Other Properties and Advanced search. In Folder Options > Search Tab, the search options can be changed, e.g. Find partial
    matches.
Providing the location is indexed, you can search in File Explorer for a specific word or phrase by typing content:
followed by your phrase enclosed in double quotes. This will produce a list of files matching the criterion.
Speed up the search by opening File Explorer (was Windows Explorer) at the folder you want to search, rather than at the root folder. Also, pressing F3 will show Search options like Date Modified and Size.
Ninety-nine per cent of politicians give the rest a bad name.

  • Hitting a specific file size when exporting from Flash CS5

I need to export three banners to .swf from flash and they all need to be under 61K.  They all use photographs and are 5-7 seconds long each and the dimentions are 300x250 px, 300x600 px & 728x90 px.  Is there any way I can put in the specific file size in the program and make it under 61k?  I tried using the publish settings and lowering the quality and even at 40% quality the file size only went down 20KB from 147 to 127.  If you cannot do that in the program is there any third party programs that can be used to do this?  Thanks for your help!

What you should do is set the Publish Settings to generate a size report.  That way you will have a detailed listing of what each element of the design contributes to the file weight.  I would guess that the images are going to be the heavy hitters, so you might need to use image software to optimize them as much as possible before importing them into Flash.

  • Specific file sizes

    Hi all!
I was wondering if anyone could help me with creating a specific file size.
As far as I'm aware, file size is strictly dependent on content.
However, I have a request to make a 2MB file - no more, no less.
As is stands, I have a 1.3MB file (This is at it's smallest setting in the 'save as' dialogue box)
I am working in Acrobat Pro 9.1.2
    Many thanks for any help!
    B

    Thank you for your reply
I was hoping it wouldn't involve trial and error tweaking -it's time consuming and it's a luxury I don't have.
But thats the only way I can think of doing it too!
I find other files on the web that have specific sizes - there must be an easier way...

  • Specific pixel size & dpi

Is it possible to set specific a combination of size (in pxls) and dpi?  (in Illustrator CS5)
I need to create a .png document which is 16x16 px and 96dpi.   The ability to chose the dpi size when setting up a new doc is very limited.
The only thing I've managed to do is create a 19x19 px 72dpi image, export  it "for web" and then take it into photoshop and change the dpi to 96.
Is there a better, easier way?    Also, we're considering upgrading to CS6 - are these features better in CS6?

Bidds,  you are confusing DPI (Dots Per Inch) with PPI  (Pixels Per Inch).
DPI is a technical specification of the output or input of hardware devices like a printer when you print, monitor when you display your digital image, scanner when you scan to make digital images, and etc. For printers DPI specifies the size of the ink drops when printing. For monitors, DPI specifies the monitor's resolution or in other words the size of the monitor's pixels. The term DPI for monitors came from the use of the CRT displays (those heavy monitors and TVs in the past with big tubes) which are no longer in production. These displays used guns to shoot light at the back of the screen with variable size dots and the term DPI perfectly described the monitor resolution used. Today there is only LCD displays on the market and thy use fixed cells which define the monitor resolution. Because the cells are fixed, for describing the resolution of LCD monitors, people mostly use the term Pixels Per Inch when they want to describe the size of monitors' pixels (cells). And this can cause some confusion that you are experiencing.
PPI is an attribute of a digital raster image. It specifies the output resolution of a raster image or in other words how large the pixels in the digital file will be output.
In Photoshop you are setting PPI not DPI.
Illustrator is a vector program. Vector graphics are resolution independent (have no pixels) and don't have PPI attributes. The PPI attributes are valid only when creating a raster image for outputting to devices like printers. Printers can print the pixels of your digital image with different size, and thus the image with the same number of pixels can be printed with different sizes. Monitors however don't use PPI settings of digital files to display images, instead they use the zoom level specified by the user using software, and by default the software programs (your browser for example) use 100% zoom which fits one image pixel to one monitor pixel. Because different monitors have monitor pixels (cells) with different sizes that cannot be changed on LCD screens, a digital image with the same number of pixels will be displayed at different size at the default 100% zoom on different monitors. Also have in mind that certain elements  like software interfaces cannot be zoomed (changed) by the user.
So, the DPI mentioned in the link you provided does not mean PPI and it doesn't suggest in anyway that you should set PPI in Photoshop or any other program when creating images for the web. You got that wrong. It is only telling you that monitors with higher resolution (DPI) will display your image smaller so, you may want to make the image larger (with more pixels) and vice versa. The PPI settings in a raster image are simply ignored for display on monitors and thus on the web. That's why you don't have an option for PPI in Save for Web and devices. Whether an image with a certain number of pixels is 72, 96, 300, 1 million or 1 PPI (pixels per inch) this will not make any difference when displayed on the web.

  • Creating specific image sizes on contact sheets

A script like my Paste Image roll. Paste Image Roll Script and Picture Package Support
    http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/PasteImageRoll.jsx
    From my Photo Collage Toolkit
Photoshop scripting is powerful and I believe this package demonstrates this A video showing a 5 image collage PSD template  being populates with images:
The package includes four simple rules to follow when making Photo Collage Template PSD files so they will be compatible with my Photoshop scripts.
Size the photo collage templates for the print size you want - width, height and print DPI resolution.
Photo collage templates must have a Photoshop background layer. The contents of this layer can be anything.
Photo collage templates must have alpha channels named "Image 1", "Image 2", ... "Image n".
Photo collage templates layers above the background layers must provide transparent areas to let the images that will be placed below them show through.
There are twelve scripts in this package they provide the following functions:
TestCollageTemplate.jsx - Used to test a Photo Collage Template while you are making it with Photoshop.
CollageTemplateBuilder.jsx - Can build Templates compatible with this toolkit's scripts.
LayerToAlphaChan.jsx - Used to convert a Prototype Image Layer stack into a template document.
InteractivePopulateCollage.jsx - Used to interactively populate Any Photo Collage template. Offers most user control inserting pictures and text.
ReplaceCollageImage.jsx - use to replace a populated collage image Smart Object layer with an other image correctly resized and positioned.
ChangeTextSize.jsx - This script can be used to change Image stamps text size when the size used by the populating did not work well.
PopulateCollageTemplate.jsx - Used to Automatically populate a Photo Collage template and leave the populated copy open in Photoshop.
BatchOneImageCollage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Collage templates that only have one image inserted. The Collage or Image may be stamped with text.
BatchMultiImageCollage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Any Photo Collage template with images in a source image folder. Easier to use than the interactive script. Saved collages can be tweaked.
BatchPicturePackage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Any Photo Collage template with an image in a source image folder
PasteImageRoll.jsx - Paste Images into a document to be print on roll paper.
PCTpreferences.jsx - Edit This File to Customize Collage Populating scripts default setting and add your own Layer styles.

  • Shape-size-x is zero

    Hello all,
I'm doing something similar to the "Sales.rtf" example mentioned in the user guide and included in the BI Desktop samples with regard to using an "autoshape" to render a varying-length bar. Problem is, the value I'm varying on can be zero and this appears to cause a "Wrong operand type" message when generating a PDF preview. I suspect this because if I just do
    <?shape-size-x:COUNT + 1?>
it previews without a problem - of course all bars then have a size which is visually misleading. You can see this behavior if you change one of the sales figures in the sample's "Sales.xml" to zero and preview as PDF.
Is there some way to specify that the shape can be a size of zero, or some way to suppress the bar if the value I'm rendering the bar for is zero?
    Thanks for any assistance!
    John

    Hi John
Is this just a single bar or are there multiple bars? IF the latter you could use the offset calculation to just move to the next bar in the series if the value is zero.
Can you post your full shape code ?

  • Diagram Optimize Shape Size Height and Width

What determines the dimensions set by the Jdeveloper 11g menu option of Diagram.Optimize Shape Size.Height and Width while editing a Database Diagram ?
I was hoping that this option resizes the dimensions of a box that represents a table to fully display all the columns, types and keys within the limits set by Tools.Preferences.Diagrams.Database.Max Compartment Entriesand Max Shape Width.
    I set
    Tools.Preferences.Diagrams.Database.Max Compartment Entries = 100
    Max Shape Width = 1000
However, what I observe when using this option in a Database Diagram is that the box height is resized to show the first 15 column names and an ellipsis and the box width is less than the width of many of the column name rows.
Does anyone else think this is a bug? If so, I will open an SR.

    Update:
The limits set by Tools.Preferences.Diagrams.Database.Max Compartment Entries and Max Shape Width affect the default values for subsequently created shapes and not existing shapes.
However, a Service Request has confirmed that changing the value for Max Compartment Entries has no effect. This behavior has been filed as a bug that will hopefully be fixed in the next release of Jdeveloper 11g.

    Hello betsywetsy
It sounds to me like you have the shapes grouped together. Select them and either look in the Arrange pane of the Format inspector and towards the bottom you should see a Group and Ungroup button. Also you go to the drop down menu Arrange > Ungroup to do the same effect.

  • Create materialized view with specific column sizes

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create a materialized view with a specific a column size. Something like
    create materialized view test_mv
    refresh force on demand
    as
    select id,
           cast(my_compound_field as nvarchar2(50))
    from ( select id,
                  field1 || field2 my_compound_field
from   my_table);But Oracle seems to ignore the cast and takes the maximum size it finds for field1 || field2 in the select query. The resulting table has a column nvarchar2(44) instead of nvarchar2(50).
This can give a problem when the view is refreshed... there could be new data that exceeds the current size, i.e. where length(field1 || field2) > 44.
How can I override the column size of a field in a materialized view?
Edit: Some additional info to clarify my case:
field1 and field2 are defined as nvarchar2(25). field1 || field2 can theoretically have a length of 50, but there is currently no data in my table that results in that length, the max is 44. I am afraid that there will be data in the future that exceeds 44, resulting in an error when the MV is refreshed!
