Specify inventory pointer location

I am Oracle 11g 11.1 on HP UNIX 11i. I see Oracle provides invPtrLoc in some command such as runIntaller and Opatch.
-invPtrLoc $ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory/oraInst.loc
However when I go to run emca to configure db control it does not recognize this parameter. I know using symbolic links one can get around it, but symbolic link requires Sys Admin help. Is there any other work around for it. I was looking for a UNIX environment variable, could not find one.

Hi,
You do not have invPtrLoc option for emca as you are not doing any installation as it is a creation assistant. Also you do not need to have sysadmin privs to create a softlink for a file if you have write permission in a directory where you are creating the soft link. The permission for the source file directory does not matter unless you can not even see it (no permission to you at all).
You can check all the option for emca by running 'emca -help'

    It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.

  • Inventory pointer file in RAC DBs

    Grid version:11.2.0.3
    DB versions: 11.2.0.3, 10.2.0.5
    Platform : Solaris / AIX
    In our RAC servers, I have noticed that the inventory pointer file (oraInst.loc) of RDBMS HOMEs point to the Grid inventory
    --- inventory pointer file of 11.2.0.3 GRID HOME
    $ cat /u01/grid/11.2/oraInst.loc
    inventory_loc=/u01/grid/11.2/oraInventory
    inst_group=dba-- inventory pointer file of a 10.2.0.5 RDBMS HOME running in this cluster
    $ cat /u01/oracle/10.2/db/oraInst.loc
    inventory_loc=/u01/grid/11.2/oraInventory
    inst_group=dba-- inventory pointer file of a 11.2.0.3 RDBMS HOME running in this cluster
    $ cat /u01/oracle/11.2/db/oraInst.loc
    inventory_loc=/u01/grid/11.2/oraInventory
    inst_group=dbaIs this a pre-requisite or a standard practice ?

    In Solaris, the default location for the inventory location file is /var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc. Make sure they all point to the same inventory and make sure they are all up-to-date. You also want to make sure that this "global/central" inventory has READ/WRITE for grid and oracle users. You can take an existing inventory (or delete all of them) and use the runInstaller to create and/or add a new home;
    Start here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/em.112/e12255/oui2_manage_oracle_homes.htm
    look for
    ./runInstaller -silent -attachHome ORACLE_HOME="<Oracle_Home_Location>"
    "CLUSTER_NODES={<node1,node2>}" LOCAL_NODE="<node_name>" <<--note for clusters, the "local_node" - so do this on all nodes
    There is also a "detachHome"

  • Inst_loc inventory pointer missing on second node in RAC

    Hi,
    I have installed Clusterware 11.1.0.6 on Windows 2003 on two nodes and I'd like to patch it to 11.1.0.7. However, when calling "opatch lsinventory -all" I noticed that it works on the first node (the node where the installation was performed), but doesn't work on the second node:
    C:\product\11.1.0\crs\OPatch>opatch lsinventory -all
    Invoking OPatch 11.1.0.6.0
    Oracle Interim Patch Installer version 11.1.0.6.0
    Copyright (c) 2007, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.
    Oracle Home       : C:\product\11.1.0\crs
    Central Inventory : n/a
       from           : n/a
    OPatch version    : 11.1.0.6.0
    OUI version       : 11.1.0.6.0
    OUI location      : C:\product\11.1.0\crs\oui
    Log file location : C:\product\11.1.0\crs\cfgtoollogs\opatch\opatch2010-11-28_10-22-19AM.log
    OPatch cannot find a valid oraInst.loc file to locate Central Inventory.
    OPatch failed with error code = 104
    C:\product\11.1.0\crs\OPatch>I checked in the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE" on both nodes and found out that the first node has an inventory pointer "inst_loc" wich points to "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory", but on the second node this value is missing. If I manually set it on the second node, then "opatch lsinventory" works but I'm not sure if it's ok to set it manually?
    I also checked the documentation and here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/em.111/b31207/oui5_cluster_environment.htm#OUICG267 it says: "After you click Next, the Oracle Universal Installer checks whether the remote inventories are set. If they are not set, the Oracle Universal Installer sets up the remote inventories by setting registry keys." So I suppose the registry key should exist also on the second node?
    Thanks in advance for any answers.
    Regards,
    Jure

    Hi, mmm ... looks like remote operations fail during the installation process. Possible reasons for this error could be either a missing oraInst.loc file or permission issues with oraInst.loc file. Ensure user have read/write priviligies on orainst.loc file as well as on the actual path of orainventory location. If you could not fix the issue and if you know the inventory location you may want try following solution: "opatch apply -invPtrLoc C:\mypath\mypath\oraInst.loc" where "mypath" should be replaced by your windows locations. Also review you have all the oracle binaries in the 2nd. node.

  • Media Encoder CC specify file output location doesn't work?

    Hello everybody! When i render a video from Media Encoder CC the "specify output file location" only works if i go to preferences then select the folder,then when i reboot the PC it still says it's going to that location but doesn't. Does this happen to any one else? And how can i fix this? thanks !

    Check your permissions-settings. It sounds like your preference file is is written to a destination that has specific read-write permissions. Or that it is erased when rebooting (schools often have this implemented)

  • Why can not freeze book inventory Storage location and Posting block?

    Hello,
    I tried to freeze book inventory storage location and posting block at storage location level in SAP.
    1) OMBP -> "Freeze book inventory storage' is checked at that storage location.
    2) MI01 -> the 'Posting Block' and 'Freeze book inventory' in the Physical Inventory Document  is checked.
    3) Post the Physical Inventory Document by using MI02.
    But, I am still able to post inventory movement at that storage location after executing the above.
    (I run MB1C with movement type 501 at that location.
    I input the material number which are in the created Physical Inventory document.
    The posted manterial document is created after I run MB1C.
       The document date and the posting date in MB1C are the same date of Physical Inventoery Document.
    I can see this material inventory movement from MB51!! )
    My question is:  Why SAP is allowed to execute the inventory movement after the 'freeze book inventory storage location' and 'Posting block' are checked at OMBP and MI01 ?
    Any idea?
    Help me, thank you.

    Sylvia Chen

    What is this BLRSPRX10001?
    IF it is rfc destination, then check the user.
    This problem is related to user rights. The user used there might not have sufficient authorizations to invoke the proxy. (may be the authorization is expired)

  • Retreiving Point location with JTable row and column

    If I have the row and column in a JTable (in a JPanel), how do I get the Point location offset from the location Point of the JTable or JPanel ?

    int intRow = objTable_.getSelectedRow();
    int intColumn = objTable_.getSelectedColumn();

  • Storage of Obiee reports at Share point location

    Hi all,
    Could you please let me know how to store/the way to store OBIEE reports in Microsoft Share point location.
    Regards,
    Chandra kanth.

    What do you mean by that exactly? Do you mean storing the effective output of an analysis at a given point in time?
    OBIEE isn't really mean to do this but you can - on Windows - achieve this by using code snippets which fly around and execute Agents to write to a file using VB scripts. It has been covered dozens of times in this forum and a simple forum search yields multiple hits wiht the solution: http://total-bi.com/2011/08/obiee-export-reports/
    Here's an equivalent solution with Java: Archive/Export OBIEE 11g content to Shared drive by creating Agents and Invoking Java Method | OBIEE
    If you want to go an Oracle-supported way which doesn't require coding, then I suggest that you look at BIP bursting: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E28280_01/bi.1111/e22258/add_burst_def.htm#BIPDM394
    This is - for the time being - what Oracle suggests you use if you want to write to files. OBIEE as said initially isn't really meant to do that in the current version.

  • Specify measuring points in tha task list

    1. Can i specify measuring points in tha task list. ie. i want to measure some specific reading in preventive mtc. like temperture etc.
    2. can i fill measurement reading through orders like we do in case of notifications.
    pl reply

    Hiii Ravi
    Measurement reading is maintained against measuring poisition for the equipment. So measuring point is assigned to equipment.
    You can create the tasklist for measurement of different reading & you can maintain the reading while making the confirmation of the each activity/operation.
    Against the order you cannot update the measurement document & measuring point cannot be assigned to particular tasklist/task /operation as it is poperty of equipment & not of that task or operation or tasklist.
    I hope this will satisfy your query if not let me know.

  • Management point location for workgroup clients in DMZ

    Hi All,
    I am trying to install the SCCM 2012 client to some servers that are located in a workgroup and in a DMZ at our organization.
    I have read up about the config for this and I think that we have everything in place but the clients themselves are not locating a management point which I think is due to the setup of the IIS on the management points.
    Firstly, I ammended the local hosts file on the system to ensure that the server could resolve the SCCM site server and 2 management points by using NetBIOS and FQDN. I also checked that the ports are opened from the client to the
    management point.
    I then ran ccmsetup using the following switches /noservice /mp=smsmp SMSSITECODE=XXX SMSSLP=SMSMP FSP=SMSSITESERVER CCMHTTPPORT=24555 CCMHTTPSPORT=24556 RESETKEYINFORMATION=TRUE which appers to have sucessfully installed the client
    but is now failing to communicate with the MP specified. I am seeing on the client the following repeated in the locationservices.log

    x.x.x.x HEAD / - 24555 - x.x.x.x SMS+CCM+5.0 - 401 2 5 216 0
    I understand that this points to the IIS authentication issue so I have tried browsing to http://smsmp.domainname.com/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist and
    I do get a list of management points returned so I'm a little confused now. The other thing that confuses me is that we also have another domain we manage clients
    in and these systems have all registered with the MP fine even though there is no trust relationship in place between the 2 domains.
    I have checked anonymous authentication has been enabled on the SMS_MP virtual directory but I can see that it is set to use a user account of IUSR, but this is not a local user on the MP nor an AD user from what I can see.
    Is anybody able to point me in the correct direction of either what I am doing wrong or which settings I should be checking?
    Thanks in advance for any help
    Andrew

    You mention in your ccmsetup install properties: CCMHTTPPORT=24555 CCMHTTPSPORT=24556
    While the MPList test you provided shows:
    http://smsmp.domainname.com/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist
    This is on port 80
    Where is your MP? Port 80 or 24555 ?
