Speed internet browsing via a local domain name server

Is it possible with leopard to create a local DNS to speed up browsing on the internet on Leopard? If so, how do you go about it?

Hi Uday,
I have eventually managed to install minisap - I installed MaxDB to answer your question.
I unchecked a checkbox that was asking for a FQDN and then the domain name server is no longer mandatory.
However, when trying to run webdynpro applications I now get a shortdump that shows a CX_FQDN exception.  It says:
An exception occurred which is explained in detail below.
The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_FQDN', was not caught and
therefore caused a runtime error.
The reason for the exception is:
Die URL enthält keine vollständige Domainangabe (john-pc statt
john-pc.).
I don't understand the German, but john-pc is my computer name and I was prompted during the installation to replace localhost in my host file with this.
The url of the webdynpro application includes this, for example:
http://john-pc:8000/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/z_hello_world
Would you know how I now resolve this?
Many thanks,
John

    Hi,

  • Add the Hosting Server IP in Domain Name Server of Microsoft

    Hi,
I have purchased a domain (techwhiz.info) and web hosting from
www.net4.in but the email is taken from Microsoft exchange for the same domain so the Domain Name Server is with Microsoft. Now I want to host the site for the same domain and as
www.net4.in hosting provider told to do a entry of Hosting Server IP in DNS then only the website will show the contents. As I don't know how to do this entry so please tell me the steps to do that.
If required anything more please let me know.
    Thanks in Advance.

I'm having a little trouble with your english, but I think you're trying to do 3 things:
Host email on an Exchange server
    host a website with net4.in
setup DNS so that these things work together
It also sounds like Microsoft is hosting your DNS?  If so, you'd simply create an MX DNS record to point to your Exchange 2010 server, and another DNS record for www.techwiz.info.
You may wish to call the hosting provider(s) of these services for more specific guidance.  Your question is pretty broad.

  • Certificate error on Outlook 2013 clients, Outlook 2007 clients do not get certificate error, Exchange 2010, dot local domain name

    Hi
I'm looking for a solution that I can't seem to find.  I have an Exchange 2010 server running in a dot local domain (domainname.local), so my SSL certificate is installed using the servers external email DNS name.  email.mycompany.com
I have followed the instructions to resolve this on the Exchange server, implemented the changes so autodiscovery sees the server as email.mycompany.com.  This works great for my Outlook 2007 users.  The downside is that none of my Outlook 2013
clients can access their email without the certificate error server name mismatch.
I know Outlook 2013 has tighter security but I need to get rid of these cert errors, any thoughts out there?

    Hi,
Since both your Outlook 2007 users and Outlook 2013 users are using Exchange 2010 with the same server configuration, it should be working in both Outlook client version.
Please restart your IIS service by running IISReset /noforce from a Command Prompt window in Exchange to have a try. In Outlook, please re-create a Outlook profile to check whether the issue persists.

  • Upgrading to high speed internet enhanced with budget local phone service?

Searched for this issue but can't locate anything on here.  I have gotten conflicting information on this by phone and online chat.  When I click on "Order Now" for High Speed Internet Enhanced (29.99) it takes me to the bundle page where it wants me to add TV service and upgrade my phone.  All I want to do is upgrade to enhanced from the regular High Speed (19.99).
I don't know which dept I was connected to 1st on the phone, but her system wasn't allowing her to order it for me.  She referred me to E center who wasn't sure and asked the online chat people sitting near him who said I have to upgrade my phone as well to get enhanced?
Is this true?  I need to have a regional calling plan to upgrade to High Speed Internet Enhanced?  Instead of paying an extra 10 bucks a month, it jumps to an extra 25 to 30 per month.
Does anyone else have budget phone service with High Speed Enhanced?

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon
        news.giganews.com
traceroute to 71.242.*.* (71.242.*.*), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
#3 If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

  • Cant get rid of .local domain in server

    Hi!
I have a server (the first) on a small network. When I started it up it was without a DNS in the network. Now I have started such a DNS and also a DHCP. Both services running on a nother Windows 2003 Server.
Now I can't get the first server to change into the domain which the DHCP and DNS designates.
When I do changeip -checkhostname it returns the correct host name with my domain suffix. But if I look into for example Sharing in preferences, it still says server.local. This also goes for Remote Desktop.
I have managed to start Kerberos, so the DNS matches the hostname.
Anyone who knows how this can occur and how I can solv it?

If changeip -checkhostname gives you the right name all should be OK.
Make sure the Windows DNS have your server IP/name with a PTR record in the reverse lookup zonefile.
host -v <server IP> should show the servername.
The computer name in Filesharing setup (before you click the "Edit" button) is where you set the hostname (without the domainname "suffix").
When you also click the "Edit" button you can enter the Bonjour/Rendezvous mDNS (multicast DNS) name - the one that ends with .local.
In Network setup you enter the search domain name (the domainname "suffix").
In Tiger you can't disable Bonjour in Directory Assistant (?) - and I wouldn't anyway.
Having the Bonjour name you can use Server Admin and WGM even when the DNS isn't working or when you have no network connection.

  • Preparing new Certificate for Exchange - how to cover the .local domain names

I need to plan out our new certificate for our CAS servers. Exchange 2010 SP3. Our current SAN certificate has several names including our Exchange FQDN's which are exserver.domain.local. I know our CA will not let me generate SAN's with a .local anymore
so how do I cover the Exchange internal FQDN's in the certificate?
I did a get-exchangecertificate and the only certificates I have are the public CA with all the SAN's and Services are IP.WS. The other two Exchange certificates are self signed but only for SMTP "S".
You can only have one certificate for web services "W" so how do you get around the Exchange FQDN? Our internal autodiscover, availability and OOF etc....that Outlook uses all use the Exchange internal FQDN of servername.domain.local.
Even if I generate another Exchange certificate for the server FQDN and submit it to our internal CA, I cannot enable web services on this certificate because my public certificate is already enabled for web services.
Need some help here. I am really stumped on this one.

  • What is the best solution for Internet patter access inside of domain BizTalk server?

    Hi guys,
Our BizTalk server put the company domain network, it can't access to the internet, just external DMZ can be access from internet.
    senario:
Internet partner <=> Extenal DMZ server <=> intenal DMZ server <=> BizTalk Server
1.Internet partner and external DMZ Server can access each other
2.external and internal DMZ Server can access each other
3.internal DMZ Server and BizTalk server can access each other
What is the best solution from your idears? I am look forward your wonderful sharing.
    Phile

#3 is the most common scenario, but to BizTalk and your app, it doesn't matter.
What you need to find out first from you security team is whether or not they will allow a connection to be made directly to the BizTalk computer or require proxying.

  • Ping to local domain works but ping to server name dont work from local network PC

    Hi
I have done a fresh install of the Windows Server 2012 R2 and installed Essentials Experience role to it.
My problem is that I cannot ping server name from PC in the local network. I can ping local domain name (domain.local).
When I try to ping local domain in the server, it resolutes ok and gives server IPv4 IP but when I ping server name in the server, it gives me IPv6 IP ::1: which I understand to be IPv6 loopback IP. I dont know if this has anything to do with the pinging
    problem from the PC.
I had earlier the same server configuration and this earlier server gives IPv4 IP when server name is pinged from the server itself.
How to get PC to ping server name so that I could use http://servername/connect??
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Have you set firewall to allow incoming ICMP Echo messages ?
By default, Windows Firewall does not allow incoming ICMP Echo messages, and therefore the computer cannot send an ICMP Echo Reply in response.
You may like to refer to the article below to check if it worked:

  • DNS: Client can't connect because .local domain isn't in DNS. How can I connect over the WAN to server.domain.local?

So my 2012 server is set up on the LAN with a .local domain name.
Remote Desktop Services are set up and remoteapp stuff works fine on the LAN.
I've set up port forwarding so I can connect to the server over the WAN too, but remoteapp stuff is a bit different. I can connect to the server by specifying the correct IP address. Giving a Web browser the address
    https://serverIPAddress/RDWeb
lets me get the login screen and see the range of apps for me to run. I select one, the connectoid is downloaded correctly (in Chrome) and I click on the downloaded connectoid.
Unfortunately, rather than pursuing the sensible IP-address approach that I started with, the connectoid has been given the server's name on the LAN:  server.domain.local. Clearly, the client machine tries to look this up but DNS hasn't heard of
it because it's a .local address.
I cannot be the only one to have come across this apparent oversight on Microsoft's part. Any ideas as to how this can sensibly be overcome? Obviously, I could put the IP address translation into every client's hosts file (and I've done this and shown it
works) but I've got too many clients to mess about like this. Anybody know 'the Microsoft way' to fix this?
Thank you for checking this out -- I am confident the details of the problem are completely specified in this query but, if I'm wrong, please ask.
    Many thanks again,
    Biffo

  • Windows 8.1 will not issue a Domain Name Request.

I have a windows 8.1 system that will not issue a Domain Name Request to resolve a simple query such as www.microsoft.com.  It works OK in my Windows 7 system on the same computer.  I know this is happening because I run the Wireshark packet
trace on each system. Windows 7 issues the request; Windows 8 does not.  I can flush the DNS cache with "ipconfig /flushdns, net stop dnscache, net start dnscache".  When I try to do email,  Thunderbird can't find the server; when
I try to browse the internet, the browser(Opera, Chrome, Mozilla) can't resolver  the name.  ipconfig /all looks normal.  The Domain Name Server is hardwired (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, or 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220).  Any ideas?

    Hi,
If you ping  the server with its IP address, could it work? If so, it should be your Windows 8.1 DNS components problem.
When this problem occures? If this problem just occures recently, it would be better to make system restore to revert your system to a former normal time point.
In not, firstly, try to reinstall NIC driver for test. Also check Event Viewer if it identify the problem.
As you said, you run Wireshark Packet. In my opinion, it would be better to run this tool to capture you network communication trace in Windows 8.1. This maybe could help you find the reason of the problem.
In addition, Network Monitor also a good choice to captuer network trace.

  • Internet browsing fast over Wi-Fi, s-l-o-w over ethernet.

I just set up Time Capsule today. All my devices can connect to it over Wi-Fi, and internet browsing via Wi-Fi is speedy. But I was hoping to have my Mac Pro connect to the internet with an ethernet cable. The problem is that when I turn off Airport on my Mac Pro, internet browsing using that computer becomes painfully slow. As in dial-up slow. And sometimes, it won't even connect. Meanwhile, my other devices that are using the Wi-Fi continue to hum along the internet highway at relatively fast speeds.
I'm pretty sure I set up all the connections correctly. An ethernet cable connects the modem's ethernet port and Time Capsule's WAN port. Another ethernet cable connects the ethernet port on the back of my Mac Pro to one of Time Capsule's LAN ports. I've tried switching from one LAN port to another, but haven't seen much difference.
I'd really like it if my iPad, Air Mac, apple TV and iPhone could connect to the internet wirelessly through Time Capsule while my Mac Pro used ethernet. Any ideas of how to solve this problem would be very much appreciated!

Thank you so much for the reply!  :-)
Yes, Time Capsule is in router mode.
As for the ethernet cable, I replaced my old Airport Extreme with the Time Capsule in question. The Airport Extreme was working exactly as I want this Time Capsule to work. And all the cables, including the ethernet cable, are the same ones I was using successfully prior to the swap. So I really don't think it is the ethernet cable, though I will check into it in System Preferences when I get home.
Regarding Lion: yes, it has occurred to me that Lion could be part of (if not all of) the problem here. Ever since installing Lion, my computer has been buggy as all ****. It's getting old.
Thanks again for the reply. I appreciate any and all suggestions!

  • What Is The Domain Name System for Active Directory on My Computer a Mac OS X

When I try to bind my mac to an active directory domain I get the error message (“An invalid Domain and Forest combination was specified.  You should enter a fully qualified DNS name for the domain and forest”). I have tried so many things, nothing works
    Any suggestions?

In general, the domain name you use must be correctly looked up (both backward AND forward) by the Domain Name Server you are using or using Active Directory or Open Directory will not work properly.
In general, the first-listed DNS Address for each workstation must be one that contains the Active Directory or Open Directory names.
You can use Network Utility "Lookup" function to test whether the names and the IP Addresses are looked up correctly. Both symbolic (e.g., mydomain.com) and numeric (e.g., 192.168.2.22) addresses of the Active directory server MUST lookup to the other.
In MacOS X Server installations with private, non-Internet-visible Domain names, this problem can be solved by providing a local DNS Server, and populating the DNS Server with the Active Directory or Open Directory names and IP Addresses set for forward and reverse lookup.
If the above is gibberish to you, you will need to contact your Active Directory Administrator for guidance.

  • Using a domain name with .mac and iWeb

How does one go about linking a domain name to the iWeb pages/ .mac account?
In other words, I don't want to have to give out the long web.mac.com/blahblahblah/site
name, I'd like to just have a domain name.

    Dottonedan...
I have replied to your thread over here...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=647660&tstart=0
You might want to have a look at the public DNS service that I posted about.
What you are looking for is basically a domain name server that will accept your domain name and be able to translate the words into the numbers like you mention. That's what DNS servers do. There are LOTS of DNS servers on the internet and once you get your domain name hooked into one the information will propagate within days if not hours, making your domain name functional.
Anyways, look back at the thread you started and you'll see my post there... we'll start there and get you squared away sooner or later, i'm sure.

  • Why do I have to have a domain name with Lion Server?

If I have just a small local network of macs and windows clients all under one roof do I have to have a domain name? Everything in the tutorials and looking through old posts seems to indicate that Lion Server works better if I use a domain name for my network. Pro and cons for a network newbie like myself please?
    Thanks,
    Tony

Directory Services like Apple's Open Directory or Microsoft's Active Directory use a domain name server to support running such a service. Therefore if your going to run Open Directory (in your case) you need to run a DNS server and use a domain name. The domain name does not have to be a real one but using your own real one is often easier because -
You can be confident it is not conflicting with anyone else
It can make later setting up email and web servers easier
You could however use a fake domain like fakedomain.private and then your server would have an entry like server.fakedomain.private
I would advise using Open Directory (and hence a domain) as even if now you could get away without this on a small network, hopefully your organisation will continue to grow and might need this later. Doing it now saves changing it all later when it will be more hard work.
